      I think you could debate whether the Toyota GR86 or the Miata is more fun to drive. Outside of fun to drive, the Miata gets points for being a convertible. The GR86 gets points for not being ludicrously impractical like the Miata.

    Okay, I see you ranking vehicles, but what about ranking the transmissions themselves, like the title suggests? Responsiveness, accuracy, throw length, reliability, smoothness, appropriate drive ratios, efficient final drive ratio, ease of driving/downshifting with or without rev matching (or auto rev match), quirks (like the Versa has this intermittent issue with shifting into reverse, forcing you to roll the car forward slightly in order to engage reverse properly), and more, are all things I look into when choosing a vehicle with a manual.

    Idc what anyone says, auto will never, ever beat manual no matter how much faster it is or how fast the car is, and that’s for two reasons: the first and biggest reason is that an auto can’t guess what gear the driver wants, so if you drove an auto, you don’t actually have full control of the car. The second is that manuals are undeniably more fun to drive.

      @@carbuzzcom According to Motor Trend 2022 April PVOTY (performance Vehicle of The Year) issue, they describe the 2021 M4 manual box as savage, rubbery, and easily the worst manual among other entries in this competition. I personally would have to agree with their assessment since I have driven the M2 Comp manual and feel the same. For whatever reason, I can't fathom why BMW is not able to master the manual box just like Porsche does with its GT cars. I have heard some Bimmer enthusiasts replacing their M2 manual with an aftermarket short-throw and rear bushing kit to improve its shit quality. Lastly, it appears that BMW has walked away from DCT in favor of traditional automatic sourced from ZF. While on the other hand, Porsche is sticking with its dual-clutch PDK. I wonder why the 2 dominant sports car makers are taking a different path, and who is going to win in the long run?

    • @carbuzzcom
      @carbuzzcom  2 года назад

      @@donovanh5679 Porsche, the answer is clear. BMW moved away from pure driving machines a long time ago. We personally have no issues with the BMW manual box, but other reviewers don't like it. And the 8-speed is great, but feels less special than the DCT did.

    • @donovanh5679
      @donovanh5679 2 года назад

      @@carbuzzcom You are right that BMW's 8-speed ZF although smooth, just doesn't give you the kind of jolt and pin-down experience as with the DCT. I used to own an e92 M3 DCT flashed with the M3 GTS firmware. At high-speed driving, it's a blast to up or downshift with the paddles. The shift is instantaneous and you get this unspeakable satisfaction about this double-clutch transmission. The only downside of DCT is jerkiness shifting at stop-n-go traffic, which I am not certain if Poecshe's PDK also exhibits similarly.

    the toyota corolla hatch/sedan e210 manual has a bad design, it has a ridiculously high failure rate for its drive input shaft bearing. Toyota will play it off and say it's the throwout bearing to avoid doing warranty work because they know warranty work doesn't pay that well. I've lost faith in toyota when a COROLLA is unreliable. I had to take it to 3 different dealerships and talk to corporate before toyota would help me. I've been buying toyota cars since the early 90s. Toyota is simply not the Toyota it once was.
