  • Does contemporary romance have a trope problem? If you were to base your answer on The Catch by Amy Lea, then yes, I would say it's a problem.

I made it to chapter 5. I couldn't make any further than that!

I very much feel like I took one for the team. 😅

My gosh this book sounds like hard work and not in a good way at all. Definitely one to add to my skip list. Trope-wise, I really like enemies to lovers but I find that most of the time it is done so very badly (insta love, not really enemies, one dimensional characters, etc). Thank you for taking one for the team, so to speak, in reading this one!

The tropes were definitely A LOT, but the hardest thing to get through was the Character of Melanie. She was the WORST!
I also enjoy a well written enemies to lovers, specifically if it is rivals to lovers. I feel like a lot of times the trope is written with a toxic bent and that kills it for me really quick. Playful banter and competition is fine, but negging and bullying is another level that I do not vibe with.

By 8 mins of this video I was considering buying this book just to burn it 😂

While I don't condone book burning, I understand this feeling all too well. 😆

@@Witchy_Reads I don't generally, but that did sound like a literal bonfire of tropes lol
