Hope you find the same on your Fix T&E journey!
@stephenwade1551 How did it do after you got the Proof barrel? I just ordered a Fix in 6 ARC that comes with the Proof barrel already installed. I also will be shooting it thru a Q Trash Panda that I already have.
@@fltmed it’s definitely better than the factory barrel. Back in the day the Fix used to come from factory with Bartlein barrels for the same price. Would have been great if that were still the case.
This is just like my experience with Bergara, I got a B-14 HMR in 308 and, despite glowing reviews from people online, it is the biggest piece of junk I ever owned in my life. It shoots 1.2-1.5 MOA 5-shot groups with the factory premium ammo Bergara recommends. When I sent it back to Bergara to have it looked at, all they did was retorque the action screws (which were already torqued to their spec with a calibrated torque wrench before I sent it to them), fired a couple of 3-shot groups through it (one of which was 0.98 MOA), and sent it back to me without even telling me they were sending it. I was away on vacation and had to pay the courier to hold it. Needless to say, it still shoots just as poorly as before, and I won't be buying another one of their products. Meanwhile, I have a Tikka CTR that averages under 0.5 MOA for 5-shot groups with every bullet I've tried in it. Anyway, just like with your gun, I'm not going to hunt with it (I mean, it weighs as much as a boat anchor for a start) and I can't shoot matches with it because it shoots so poorly. I'm stuck with a $1,000+ paperweight.
i have the opposite experience with my HMR in 6.5 creedmoor. Started shooting hornady 140g eld match factory ammo and sub moa all day sometimes sub half. started handloading the middle of last year and it shoots half inch groups all day. ive never dealt with their customer support but wow im surprised they didnt offer to at least rebarrel the action.
@@southpaw1995 Yeah, I think the problem is mainly with the 308 version of the HMR. Looking at reviews of the 308 version, I see similarly abysmal performance in most videos. I would get it rebarreled but it doesn't make any financial sense to spend over $500 (probably more like $600-$700) attempting to fix a $1,000 gun.
look into the stock bedding. A lot of people report accuracy issues with these due to some paint overspray on the bedding. My brother's HMR had this but it grouped well anyway. My 308 Ridge seems to not group under 1 inch and I noticed some overspray on the bedding pillars. Also the pillars were not set in at the perfect height so they are slightly recessed under a layer of plastic on the receiver side. I plan on doing a bedding job on the factory stock or just swapping to a chassis and seeing if that will shrink the groups.
@@fallenspirit123 Yeah, mine had overspray, I removed it. I also tried bedding it, it made no difference. Believe me, I tried basically everything outside of rebarreling it. @@michaelhill6451 wow that is unfortunate. Sorry to hear you had such a bad luck with it. If I end up having the same problem, I'll probably just relegate it for hunting only since most of my shots are 200yd or less. If I ever buy another factory rifle, it would almost certainly be a Tikka.

And for $3200 I’d also expect more. Shame too, cuz it’s a good looking gun with some neat features. I don’t mean to be that guy, but my Ruger American Predator in .308 with 168gr GMM consistently groups at .75 - .9” groups… so I’d be pissed after spending that much and getting that kind of accuracy. If I don’t load my weight on the rifle enough I get fliers making 2”+ groups at 100yds.
Oof that’s too bad. With both my 16” .308 bartlein barrel and 22”’6.5 Proof, the only time it’s not subMOA is the occasional white box. My only issue has been it doesn’t like 20rd magpul mags.
