Welcome back to Love is Kimes! David Dennis and I are delving into episodes 4-6 of Love Is Blind and answering some of the big questions. What factors led to the way the love square between Jimmy, Jess, Chelsea and Trevor shook out? What did you think of Jimmy's reaction to seeing that Chelsea does not look like Megan Fox and what is going to happen when he sees Jess in person? Are Clay and AD a good fit? Are Johnny and Amy NPCs? Can Kenneth and Brittany survive in the real world?
We then break down the couples tropical getaways where Jimmy, Jeramy and Laura make weird comments about AD. We finish by revealing who we think will actually get married and power rank the contestants!

I thought that was weird too. I have only heard that phrase in terms of gender identity, not race.

It's not that weird actually. In university settings that kind of language is encouraged because Blackness insofar as people exist within the diaspora can look different for each person. Some people who have dark skin don't identify as "Black" and some who are white passing do. People are beginning to use that language even where it comes to race to make space for people to self-identify regardless of skin colour, hair texture, etc.

I thought a pretty big red flag you two didn't seem to mention was Chelsea saying that she wouldn't say she loved someone until they actually gave her a proposal when Jimmy told her that he loves her. I thought that was extremely manipulative. Chelsea is a red flag holding a red flag carrying a bouquet of red flags.
Also Jimmy confiding to Chelsea about Jessica's monologue was hilarious because he said "this isn't supposed to be about looks" but he CLEARLY made his choice thinking he was getting Megan Fox.

I think Jimmy is just completely clueless and emotionally immature. He can’t read a room, he’s not empathetic, and he’s not a great communicator either. Jess pretty much said it best. I don’t even think he realized what he did to Jess until she told him. This dude told Jess he takes a while to think things out, which I can relate to, but it was clear he avoids his emotions. He avoids talking about things that are hard to talk about which force him to face unfamiliar feelings, and I think that’s why he doesn’t understand/refuses to acknowledge why Jess and Chelsea have been upset with him. He told Chelsea he loved her, and then came to meet with Jess as if nothing had happened. When she called him on it he thought it was unfair to him and made himself the victim without trying to rectify his own actions. Then he commented on AD’s body directly to Chelsea after she’s badgered him to confirm his attraction to her, and then when she called him on it he decides to push the envelope even more by turning away from Chelsea and talking with AD and hugging her, leaving Chelsea just alone, pretty much exluding her from the conversation, and then lying by claiming Chelsea was nowhere even close to him. Chelsea is very insecure and possibly too insecure to really have a serious relationship right now, but she, like all of us, deserves someone who is receptive to how she feels and acknowledges her perspective. I feel like this is a complete nightmare pairing because Jimmy is callus at best and borderline negligent at worst so far, and Chelsea is clearly very needy in terms of validation to the point of pulling the Megan Fox card.
First time at the channel...I am so impressed by David's consciousness and intelligence. There were low key moments with AD that felt kinda like they were hyper sexualizing her and it did give kinda racist vibes... not totally sure if it was at this point, but if we see more dynamics like that next week singling out AD... that's a pattern. We'll see.
I do not think AD is flirting with anyone. She just has an open vibe that reflects the energy of the person talking to her. She's like that with everyone, male and female. Its engaging and makes people feel comfortable with her and some people take it too far, aka Jimmy
I know right , specially when she said Jimmy looked good, and that she notice the shorts he was wearing, and how she loved every minute of the conversation, and telling his Clay is alot, and the eye contact up and down. Noooo she wasn't flirting and being inappropriate as well. 😂

I’m not sure Chelsea could be more insecure and emotional. It’s making me yell at the TV for Jimmy to stop faking it and run for the hills.
Johnny/Amy: Not going to make it because Johnny is still a boy, not yet a man.
Clay/AD: Not going to make it. Clay is just playing for the cameras, and AD is a sucker for a player, and thinks she can change him.
Ken/Brittany: I’m getting the friends vibe too, but I’m pulling for this one to work. They’re my favorite two people.
Jeremy/Laura: No chance here. They are oil and water. He’s still a frat boy, and they’re both trying to be the alpha of the relationship.
Jimmy/Chelsea: Just end it already! Please! It hurts to watch him force the compliments, and it hurts to watch her overbearing insecurity and crazy emotional freak outs.

Completely agree. I will say though, to me, Johnny is goofy in a way that’s fun and not obnoxious. He’s shown emotional awareness and nothing but respect for Amy and everyone else there throughout the show I feel like. He’s not as outgoing as Trevor but he’s totally one of the guys in a good way and seems very approachable/easy to get along with from what we’ve seen so far. The bar is low but he’s easily clearing it.
Him and Amy are my top two after 6 episodes, even the dramatic teaser at the end didn’t really make me feel uneasy about them. I feel like they’re a good pairing, their sense of humor matches and they seem to be comfortable in each others’ awkwardness. They both seem genuinely kind and happy with each other for now.
I think Johnny and Amy will make it. I think being a husband will actually make Johnny an even better person. He’s fun and not obnoxious like the other guys. I don’t get boy vibes, he seems very serious. The rest there is no hope for.

Tuning in for the first time. I absolutely adore both of you. You thoughts are so spot on esp about the Jess thing I can't wait. They were so spot on. I thought Clay would be higher. I know Clay seems very uninformed on how to treat/talk about a woman. I think he should be higher up I go back to the fact he said he was a nerd or something during school and he masks this with ego and the glow up and his suaveness has Added to his ego and probably attracted the exact wrong type of girl. That wouldn't check his ego, remember, he said that the girls he really likes never like him back. So I think some of his comments just are due to a lack of ignorance of how to treat a proper lady. He also said he Didn't even understand the concept of liking someone for their personality. Like I said, Love all your takes.
Thanks for this podcast! I felt like Jimmy was gaslighting and manipulating Chelsea through all of episode 6.

I don’t think it made since for AD to go home. Clay was her only connection left after the psycho and it made sense to go through the experience. even if it doesn't turn out to be ideal, they do have chemistry so she really had to see it through.
I fully believe that Chelsea said yes to Jimmy because he asked first but also she felt good about Jimmy picking her over Jess
8:56 I think Johnny and Amy were intimate the first night of the honeymoon and Johnny tells her at the party she’s the best looking one here. I thought that was interesting. Stark contrast to Chelsea and Jimmy’s dynamic where she spirals when he isn’t giving her validation that she’s the prettiest girl in the room.
Can’t believe this isn’t consensus but Jimmy is easily at the bottom. Yeah Chelsea is super insecure and annoying but she’s at least trying to communicate with him and Jess tried to communicate with him too. He’s completely oblivious/in denial the whole time and never offers to work through it. Seemed uninterested with both of their feelings. Just the blankest stare I’ve ever seen (until he sees Jess irl, that will then become the blankest). It’s like he always knows the worst thing to say in every moment.

Just to keep it fair she never said she thinks she looks like MF (he went there in HIS head). She said the ONLY reason people say that is because she has blue eyes and dark hair. She NEVER actually said she looked like her.

Narcissism??? Neither AD or Clay are narcissistic, but they are both very immature and have relied on superficial attributes for attention, because they both believe they aren't worthy of love. However, both seem to genuinely have empathy for others and hold themselves accountable.

They are one of the best couples on the entire series and their walk down the arched aisle was one of the most loving I have ever seen. So, stick with your emotionally damaged people.
