We have a 23 HP version of that motor in our Berco snowblower, and my Grandpa's got the 25 HP version in his GT5000. Both great, strong, and powerful motors. The one in the GT5000 is on its last leg, but that's because the tractor is a late 90's-early 2000's model, and it was never really maintained to great extents. It will be rebuilt soon, and will probably survive another lifetime. The one in the snowblower throws snow as far as the eye can see. Great motors.

Kohler really screwed us with that new air filter cover with the screw in the center. That's where the water gets in. Old commands had a cover that clipped on in the sides.

Hey Neil and John!! Great informative video. Thanks for sharing!! I put Marvel Mystery oil in the motor of the yamaha trimoto 200 that I found and I eventually got it to move. When I let it sit for a week it was locked up again. I turned it over a bunch of times and hopefully it will stay unsiezed this time.

I had a Briggs 14hp opposed twin that I got out of a junkyard, it was packed full of water and surprisingly it runs great. All it needed was fresh oil and an ignition coil.

So very common in the Kohler CH series to have leaking head gaskets. All head gaskets on my Toro 520xi CH20s and 522xi CH22s have been replaced. One of them I could hear the leak at idle which was sometimes rough. Kohler sells improved head gaskets for them.

Those Kohler command pro twin engines are wonderful engines if you take care of them slightly underpowered but work well almost had one explode today because it ran away like a 2 stroke detroit diesel due to the governor coming loose be careful when working on any engine. Big or Small Diesel or Gas.

Been watching your channel for awhile, always loved the GT6000 videos, and it got me thinking that basically the only thing they're missing that some other garden tractors of a similar level have is powersteering or hydraulic deck lift stuff like that, I was wondering if you could try and add hydraulics to a GT

This motor is VERY hurt. I would not trust it in the woods. But on a dragstrip where its ok if it dies. That might be in its future. It needs a full break down and hone and rings to have any real hope.

That moment at 11:28 is what the cylinder in my K321 probably looks like right about now after hosing it down with a punch of PB blaster, whatever was left of a can of WD40, and for good measure, a squirt of dry lube teflon in attempt to unsieze the previous owner's cook job it took. I could tell that for a '77 214, I was definitely the first one to ever open her up. Still had the factory air cleaner filter and a few pounds of dust between the filter housing and the carb... 🤦‍♂
One difference between northern and southern engines, instead of mice/rat nests, you find a prolific amount of field grass, snake skins and most often, pecan shells.

you would be better off to glue sandpaper sheets various grits on to a flat work top slab, then rub the flat head surface on the flat sandpaper to get even flat mating surface of the head.

Why would you goto all that trouble of slight teardown and putting money into carb and gasket set without tearing down all the way and atleast honing cylinders and new rings? Seems like a total waste of time and money. That engine isnt going to last very long with the cylinders in that condition and you know those rings had to of been stuck.
