I know, UTFG, but which link in the description is the Virtual Cam plugin? :) You mention it at 6:03, but either you did not include, or I can't find it.
I currently record YT videos with a 32:9 resolution, so the facecam is full res in 1080p next to 1080p gameplay. Then I split them in editing... i find it easiest sync method for audio/video. Your method will make the editing less strenuous on my PC. Also the streamdeck should be able to launch both OBS instances, and then a shortcut key to start recording in both OBS... Thanks @nutty
You can have 2 instances of OBS on the same installation. You might not need a separate portable version. And for the start/stop recording, you can just set up the same keyboard shortcut for both instances and both obs will start/stop recording at the same time.
On the "Portal" OBS system.. For 1080p Gameplay of both Camera AND Game.. Set Your Canvas AND Resolution to 3840x1080 it will allow you to record both Sources at 1080p.. Which you can than chop up and edit in your preferred Editing Software!🙏🏼
If you set the resolution of the recording OBS to be double wide (if it's 1080p set it to 3840x1080) you can put your gameplay and camera side by side.
You could use a third instance of OBS in portable. Or depending on your setup, if you're capturing game play with an elgato capture card (only really relevant for two computer setups or console gaming), you can record it in 4k capture utility while also bringing into OBS.
So, how about the following? OBS1: Records gameplay in 4K, running replay buffer OBS2: Receives virtualcam from OBS1, and streams in 1080p or 936p, whatewa FunFact: While I was able to run the same OBS in two instances, it might be not a good idea because of the same keyboard shortcut, twitch may not like it, etc
I honestly just love your content! You make learning how to do all of these nuance things so much more fun then it actually is. I appreciate that, and hopefully someday ill make content using things I learned from you that you enjoy someday! Thank you for making this journey so much more pleasant!
I don't actively stream or make youtube things but I think this will help me sometime in the future making gameplay videos with voiceover with the same footage from my livestream :) to save time.. because I actually have a crappy IRL job too
I still dont think this is a good solution to capture gameplay for me atm. The virtual cam doesnt support game capture sources and the display and window captures arent at a solid 60fps. Anyone have better solutions for purely gameplay capture while streaming and recording?
Hey nutty! Instead of using the virtual cam plugin, I think we can also use the obs-ndi plugin to send a scene from one OBS instance to another. But regarding the performance difference between virtual cam and obs-ndi, that's not I'm not too sure of...
Hi Nutty, My question is, can i use my SLOBS for recording (pure gameplay walktrough, no cam, no overlay, no nothing) and my OBS for streaming for example? Will both program use the same desktop audio? Thank you!
Hey nutty when I press start on the virtual cam it’s cutting the audio on my pc and I think it’s because I’m Using my go xlr stream mix for both is there any fix to stop the audio cutting out?
my "recording obs" doesnt recognize any device named "obs-camera", how to actually make it read the obs-camera? Already tried on Discord video and the plugin doing fine. If anyone can help?
I thought of this too, but I imagine the issue might be that you would need to still recreate the scenes you want every time you do this. So if I want to stream to Tik Tok/record my "recording OBS" in a 1080x1920 format, I'd need to recreate the scenes required every time-- a bit of a hassle tbh
Yep, you can set up a record + record setup or a stream + stream setup. They're two completely separate instances of OBS so you can do whatever you want!
I imagine to record gameplay as well you just open another instance of OBS (so number 3), setup NOOBS CMDR again and configure a multi function button on the stream deck?
This might be a dumb question but.. what if I used this to stream the exact same stream on two youtube channels creating an automatic vod channel that seperates from a main channel? Then again, bandwidth and shit, but i just delete the stream on my main each time and its auto uploaded with the same quality on another channel? Genuinely it sounds stupid and unnecessary but would it work lmao
all i do is run OBS, then right click and hit open. It will tell me there is another instance of it running unless i ment to do this. then there is a launch anyway button and i click that and it launches another OBS studio
Hope this is not a dumb question but how can i do this with a 2 pc setup ? The way i have mines set up is that i have OBS installed only on my streaming pc , i send my gameplay from my gaming pc to the streaming pc using a internal Elgato capture card inside of the streaming pc , i have my webcam installed directly to the streaming pc using Camlink , would appreciate if someone could help with this.
Also, the Plug-In is making my keyboard and mouse act up while I'm using it, and other comments on this plug-in has been talking about other issues that this plug-in brings along. Not too sure about the reliability of this set-up if it hinges on the plug-in recommended.
hi @nutty ! can I ask how to sequentially make sources visibile. i.e. once one source becomes visible, another source automatically becomes visible after a delay while still retaining the visibility of the first source?
argh, i've been researching this for days, weeks, months i dont know. nothing works the virtual cam installation now made my obs start up with a virtual output error, so nothing works , been researching about this for quite long nothing really worked. it's wierd. i've tried the 2 instance method but one of the method just does not capture the game. while the other does.
Hmmmm so what im lost at, is If I want to open Video editing software and bring in The Gameplay ONLY and the Cam ONLY, I wont be able to Stream with my webcam over the gameplay, because that will still effect the gameplay recording right? So you'd have to stream the gameplay only and the webcam only and put them together in that case? Or is there a way to stream the standard, Webcam over gameplay?
This is kinda what i wanted but kinda not what i wanted🤣. Mainly because if streamlabs obs can have this feature already and tehyre normally behind normal obs i feel like normal obs should have an easier method but meh. Until then thanks nutty!
Selective Recording is actually not as flexible as this method. You can't record two separate scenes, you just get to choose which sources are ignored in your output.
What kind of RUclips videos are you guys planning to create with this?
how to plan creating video with this! *200 iq*
None... jk many many videos
Yours

And for the start/stop recording, you can just set up the same keyboard shortcut for both instances and both obs will start/stop recording at the same time.
I do this it’s simpler BUT do you have a fix for why my 2nd instance dilutes virtual webcam color and cuts the frame rate in half???
On the "Portal" OBS system.. For 1080p Gameplay of both Camera AND Game.. Set Your Canvas AND Resolution to 3840x1080 it will allow you to record both Sources at 1080p.. Which you can than chop up and edit in your preferred Editing Software!🙏🏼
That’s what I do. When you wanna record/stream at the same time on the other hand, suddenly it’s much more complicated lol
@@TravisSlaytondid you ever figure out how to do this?
this makes sense, I use Final Cut so it makes things very easy and don't eat up my cpu running two OBS installations, thank you!
8:07 I just used the same hotkey to start and stop both recordings. Thanks for the guide, it helped a lot!!
Your dancing is great.
Wait, nobody commented on it?
I'm a simple man.
I see TWICE, I watch the whole video.
“We’re about 3:30 mins in...” Dang that was good!
I'm always super impressed when he does that considering it's INCREDIBLY DIFFICULT to do it when you're going to edit your video later.
This video is perfect for my eyes.
Wow!! This is amazingly complicated!!! I can't wait to start. Thank you!!!
YAASSS TWICE LET'S GOOOOOOOOO also Nutty's dancing amazing showstopping one of a kind
I don't normally visit ads...but i hate how relatable he made it. Thanks for the discount on the key nutty!
Finally the video we all wanted!
Please do a dancing masterclass. I NEED to learn to have at least 1% of your flow
OBS has option of running as 2 instances.. would this work that way also? Or is the 2 portable installs the only way?
I was wondering the same thing too. I don't see why it wouldn't.
ngl the only reason i understood that "Twice" joke is simply because i play alot of VRChat. And it did give me a good laugh lol
This is a comment about nutty's dancing because it's great
Good night Mr Nutty
I don't even stream but I love your videos, it's nice to see how you solve problems!
The question is: can you do the same but with gameplay and camera on the recording obs to have a clear gameplay and camera without overlays?
If you set the resolution of the recording OBS to be double wide (if it's 1080p set it to 3840x1080) you can put your gameplay and camera side by side.
If you have an Nvidia card that support 3 streams, it should be possible to run 3*obs
You could use a third instance of OBS in portable. Or depending on your setup, if you're capturing game play with an elgato capture card (only really relevant for two computer setups or console gaming), you can record it in 4k capture utility while also bringing into OBS.
That’s cool man.
Have your nubs commsnder and also hid shortcuts
Perfect! Just what I was wanting to know.
Always wondered how to do that... That's awesome, but I don't think my pc can handle that xD
Thanks, I've been looking for this. Hopefully we can just get a source record option at some point.
Now then, what if you use a VR headset that also uses said NVEC encode (AKA Quest with Link)
Videos are always helpful Nutty. Really enjoy them and get a lot of good information out of them.
What can I say? GG EZ, You won the challenge!
Thank you for this video papa nutty
So, how about the following?
OBS1: Records gameplay in 4K, running replay buffer
OBS2: Receives virtualcam from OBS1, and streams in 1080p or 936p, whatewa
FunFact: While I was able to run the same OBS in two instances, it might be not a good idea because of the same keyboard shortcut, twitch may not like it, etc
Nutty: "This seems really simple."
Me: Uhh.......
Thank you for making this video.
It's completely silly that this can't be done within ONE OBS, but... c'est la vie
I honestly just love your content! You make learning how to do all of these nuance things so much more fun then it actually is. I appreciate that, and hopefully someday ill make content using things I learned from you that you enjoy someday! Thank you for making this journey so much more pleasant!
nice dance 👍
Gosh, I felt like I was the only one who had enjoyed the beautiful dance moves
Awesomeness🎉 Thank you!🙏🏽
bro you just saved me SOOOOOOOO much money with the ad
You are a beast at stream settings.
Oh my, I was just searching for a solution a few hours ago and now you pop up! :D You da boss!
Gwelp, I think it might cost too much power on my pc considering I have an amd graphics card :*(
can i use replay buffer rather than recording ? noob question btw :""3
Hey nutty! Instead of using the virtual cam plugin, I think we can also use the obs-ndi plugin to send a scene from one OBS instance to another. But regarding the performance difference between virtual cam and obs-ndi, that's not I'm not too sure of...
I have the NDI plugin how do you do this? Hmm 🤔
Nice movie. It will be useful to everyone.
thank you nutford i will def be using this
Hi Nutty,
My question is, can i use my SLOBS for recording (pure gameplay walktrough, no cam, no overlay, no nothing) and my OBS for streaming for example?
Will both program use the same desktop audio?
Thank you!
good Video Nutty, keep making cool stuff that the rest don't do..
Thanks for another great tutorial Nutty!
Last night I had a thought, can I broadcast my stream and have a clean game capture. Today Nutty answers my question.
i was looking for this for a long time
(but never tried to search it)
Opening this video literally stopped my spotify playing TWICE.
Come for the knowledge, stay for the dancing.
Hey nutty when I press start on the virtual cam it’s cutting the audio on my pc and I think it’s because I’m
Using my go xlr stream mix for both is there any fix to stop the audio cutting out?
Thank you for this video! You rock!
Thanks to you i figured it out BUT the drawback is it drops webcam frames in half to 30 and the color is also diluted, which blows. -_-
omg, it is so helpfull thank you nutty
Would it not be easier to just simply assign the same hot keys in both OBS instances for Start record and Stop record?
YAY
Did everyone watch the whole video and not click through the ads?
Appreciate this tutorial my dude
my "recording obs" doesnt recognize any device named "obs-camera", how to actually make it read the obs-camera? Already tried on Discord video and the plugin doing fine. If anyone can help?
Thanks, this is awesome! I’ve been wanting to do something like this but had no idea you could run two instances of obs
your dancing is great, also great vid
everytime i start the 2 obss they are set to the same port in websocket, do you have a workaround for this? i need to change it manually every time
You don't need to get a portable version of OBS. Just start the usual obs, it will ask if you want to open another instance of obs.
I know this has only recently been released by exeldro but the new source record plug in would be a good way to do this in one obs studio
Yes, unfortunately Exeldro had to come in and ruin my whole video lmao
If I'm just wanting to record (not stream), can I start recording on both instances of OBS at the same time?
Yes you can... It's pretty much the same process.
Yep, you can set up a record + record setup or a stream + stream setup. They're two completely separate instances of OBS so you can do whatever you want!
@@nuttylmao Thanks! This is awesome.
This is awsome. But how do I use a stream deck with it because now stream deck detects the wrong version of OBS
I simply want to record 3 different camera angles at the same time and into their own separate files... simultaneously.
Portable OBS you say, you sure you spelt portable right this time :) Great video buddy.
@@Rivanni ooooo i've been burnt :) 1 - 0 to you :)
I imagine to record gameplay as well you just open another instance of OBS (so number 3), setup NOOBS CMDR again and configure a multi function button on the stream deck?
Hello Nutty Fanz! Have a great day!
Why does my portable version give me 'Couldn't initialize muxer' error with no description when i press start recording. Bruhhh

great video!
im starting to questing why I choose obs and not streamlabs obs lol
Hey Nutty, I'm having an issue where when I start OBS VirtualCam, my sound starts to stutter. Solutions?
Could I use this to record gameplay and webcam separate and then edit them together?
I got my Windows key years ago for like 2-3 bucks and got free upgraded over the years.
Hi Nutty, Question: when you hit the record button on your streaming PC doesnt that record the whole scene with webcam+overlays tho?
nice timing 3:30
Does Virtual Cam plugin limit the framerate to 30 fps for the OBS that's recording?
Portable aint working with plugin like NDI and Move
That last tip to make them start at the same time doesn't really help as the stream takes a second to initiate. So they won't be sync'd regardless.
Would there be a way to sync "pressing" the recording buttons using a streamdeck or something like touch portal?
wait so how can you set it to record gamecapture instead of webcam ? did i miss that?
Hope this is not a dumb question but how can i do this with a 2 pc setup ? mommies milkies
How does the Stream Deck behave with two instances of OBS running?
Also wouldn't this be better to use a different software to record? (i.e. XSplit)
Also, the Plug-In is making my keyboard and mouse act up while I'm using it, and other comments on this plug-in has been talking about other issues that this plug-in brings along. Not too sure about the reliability of this set-up if it hinges on the plug-in recommended.
