      I run my OS from an external thunderbolt NVME so that I can carry my Steam library etc. around with me. I'm unfortunately also on an AMD system. It's 1000x worse when your entire PC crashes every time that USB bug triggers. And potentially corrupts the entire Win2Go installation. Again. >.< Going back to tried and true Intel again on my next build. Xeon workstations are just... solid. Yes, for gaming. >.>

    • @ArtemisKitty

      @@dakoderii4221 For me it's my Steam controller. Unplugging it 100% of the time causes this. I never unplug the dongle now, and just use bluetooth when I want to use it on any other device.
      Edit: That's not the only cause, and in fact sometimes it just happens while I'm sitting here doing innocuous stuff like watching RUclips, but if I do unplug it? Guaranteed crash due to the usb bug.

    The single core CPUs were manufactured (mostly) for industrial use as they have likely a higher heat tolerance and lower power draw, so would be perfect for using in a lightweight printer server or some similar configuration in an industrial environment. Cheers!

    • @MJ-uk6lu
      @MJ-uk6lu 3 года назад +2

      They weren't really manufactured for that. Intel just doesn't want to throw out heavily defective dies, so they poop out this things in box with cooler and hope that they can sell some and not lose money. Even back then this CPU was running as fast as elderly man with both legs broken. Nobody should have bought these things as they sold them for as much as dual core Celerons (they still sucked, but at least you had two elderly mans with broken legs).

  • @ArtemisKitty
    @ArtemisKitty 3 года назад +3

    So... this may sound odd, but even today I can see that as a viable CPU.
    Specifically for CNC machines and the like, as they often run a simple linux or even DOS shell. Especially if working with older hardware, even just 10 years ago that was still the standard on most of them. In that environment, you want something that can be 100% sealed off, so passive cooling is a must, meaning the less power needed, the better. This would be perfect for a 5-axis milling machine running linux. Yes, newer ones are either higher-end with full CAD built in or using ARM processors, but a lot of companies, especially smaller ones, are still using the slightly older but still perfectly good machines. Also applies to DIY tinkerers who buy them used, or build their own.
    Oh. Also for always-on display terminals like at airports/train stations. There are a LOT of older systems still in use there, haha.

    I love how we look back at older hardware and laugh at how bad it is in today's standards, but that PC is STILL more powerful than a "computer" from 1955. Just ponder that for a moment. Still an awesome video TJ. Hell, my i9 9900k system is more powerful than a super computer that NASA was using in 1988. That's a video I'd love to watch. It's hard to compare since we can't just get super computers from any point of time on ebay. . . or ever, but to just do the basic Dell in a box comparison to the paper specs of older super computers through out time would be really fun. The super computer I'm thinking of is the Cray-2 released in 1985 and was discontinued in 1990. Now compare that SC to a modern day PC and revel in laughter at the results. OH! Not just the hardware comparison, but PRICE is a major factor. Gee. I can't get an RTX 3090 for less than $2420 US in 2021. In 1988, this technology would have cost millions. Just a thinking point. I know the state of PC components is bad, but my parents spent $2000 in 1997 on a PC which can't hold a candle to my Galaxy S9 which I paid $300 for a year ago. Just a thought :D LOve you all!

    I have the same Dell case, made a sleeperish style gaming PC and got a i3-10100, 16gb ram, 1650 super, 2x SSD, and 500w evga GD (same size as the stock dell one and click into place) and added a front intake fan and cleaned it up with armor-all

    I think I had Windows running better on a P4 640 - and while 1.6GHz of sandybridge ought to be on a par with 3.2GHz of Prescott, the hyperthreading helps things to keep moving

    To truly test the performance of the CPU you need to run the operating system of the time and the software of the time on hardware and drivers of the time. Of course, it can not run new crap! I knew the result just from my experience in the field without wasting my time to do so. For me anyway, this video was a waste of time but its redemption is a little levity. A little. Just to say, I remember this processor running in office machines and it did respectable on the last several years of XP PRO, SP2, and SP3, although SP3 was a little sluggish but not bad, and Windows ME and 7 were still running and it did ok. Workstations running Windows 2000 even though it was in extended support but the CPU did ok with server 2012 on workstations. After that, it was just not up to the task. This CPU never did well for any games other than stuff like solitary, LOL. It ran MS office well and ran the required terminal emulators to connect to the Main Frames still in use at the time. I remember it would not play nice with the newer GPU cards or drivers and just would not run newer raid cards and drivers at all but would run older SCSI cards with a max of 2 raid devices daisy-chained. It is an old ass CPU for moderate office workloads. It did a lot better in 2 socket server boards and remained in service longer on them. A waste of time video for me but I am sure it is fun for the young blood's out there to show how bad end-of-life hardware can be, LOL. Your content is still good so have fun and please be and stay safe!

    I live streamed my RX 6800 paired with AMD's last single core. It was a trainwreck.

    to be fair, back in 2015 my laptop look half an hour MINIMUM to load GtaV, and ran 720P low at around 12-15FPS, with it's i3-7100U

    I think they were still putting these into Dell Vostros around 2013-2014. I ran across a couple of these and was able to replace the processors with i5s I scavenged from a couple of damaged Optiplexs.

    This is an unrealistic usage of the CPU, not for the programs, is for the OS, you should have used Windows 7 instead, 8.1 at most. consider it is a 2012 CPU and only single core, give it a chance to do it's best

    That celeron would be a rocket in windows 98 though or a circa early 2000s linux. I can tell you for a fact that a Celeron 533mhz can run age appropriate Counter Strike at over 60fps

    Okay 1 core 1 thread 1.6 Ghz?
    Okay you know what?
    Viewing distance = negative 100

    I feel like its rediculous that a single core cpu can't open a web page decently quick. I think this is a problem with programmers, they program for what people have, not less. So is our new powerful hardware being taken advantage of the way it should be? Probably not. The goal posts for what it takes to run a browser keeps moving for almost no reason.

    1.6 GHz is slow? Remembering my 80286, running at 6 MHz... Or my first Pentium, running at 200 MHz.

    Ah GTA V not being able to load textures on old CPU's. It happened on my ole Core 2 Duo too. But At least I was getting 35-40 fps.

    Funny that's a single core because I recently tested playing Grand theft Auto V on amd's first $100 quad core, the athlon 2 x4 620. If I ran it on all four cores to the game, it would have the same asset loading issues. But if I set affinity to three cores for the game, leaving one of the cores to do what it needs to do, the frame rate of the game would slow down but the assets will load properly because that last core would be free to do all the other background crap that needs to make the game run better for some reason.

    Jesus... Even the Athlons i used for my Windows 98 machines were clocked faster. And with a much lighter operating system, no less.
