One of my favorite quirks in GTA IV is the speaker static sound you get before you receive a call, that's the kind of attention to detail that makes it.

One of my favorite details, if you held the exit button down while in a car, you can actually turn the car off instead of leaving it idle.
I also remember you could dial a number on your phone and it would give you the song name and artist of the song you are listening to in game.

Honestly if it weren't for the characters and the storyline in GTA V I would have returned the game the next day. There isn't a single game mechanic that they didn't make worse. With the exception of constantly being bothered by your whiny in-game friends every 10 minutes suppose.

Not only do they not do that in GTA V, some dirtbag programmer actually designed traffic to grief the player. Whatever motherless sociopath in the meeting room was like, “Hey, I have an idea… why don’t we design traffic to violently swerve into the players direction of travel for no reason!”
needs to be put down or banned from the industry. I’ve literally seen NPC vehicles glitch and break the physics just to cut me off in GTA V - essentially warp in front of me. That alone illustrates what an inferior piece of shit GTA V is to GTA IV.

@@FSousA7X That only occurs on the bridge as NPC traffic thinks the subway is coming at them. So it’s just a bug, not an intentionally programmed script to annoy and grief the player like in V. So not analogous at all. GTA V will literally spawn a stopped car ahead of you for the sole purpose of having it pull out in front of you. GTA IV does nothing like that. NPC’s are just a bit dumb in IV given its PS3 era AI.

Through no fault of my own I'd always end up in fist fights in random places. You can do that in GTA V, but since most of the map is relatively empty and the city itself is pretty dull, it just isn't as fun (one exception being when you take Trevor down to Franklin's hood and hurl taunts at gang members and other pedestrians - always ends in violence).

EXACTLY. That was one of the finer details that I immediately noticed when I first played GTA 5. The hand to hand combat in GTA 5 is such trash... 1 or 2 punching an NPC only for them to die and bleed out? Like wtf 😂 Knocking people out in GTA 4 was amazing or hitting them with a bat only for them to either get KO'd or die and bleed out 😂 the first time I saw my friend hit an NPC with a bat in GTA 4 and crack them in the head I was blown away 🤯 the game felt so realistic at the time and still holds up extremely well today.

The subway in GTA IV is amazing! I was actually disappointed at the subway in GTA V, but then it does kind of reflect what a city with much lower population density would have. There are no missions in GTA V that use the subway either.
My only real criticism of GTA IV is that the missions have no checkpoints, which means failure means you start at the beginning again. I'm so glad they fixed that in GTA V. And you lose what ammunition you used when you failed! So fail a mission a few times and suddenly you have no working weapons! Oops...

In my opinion, GTAIV wasn't surpassed by GTAV at all. IV is still the pinnacle of storytelling and offers the fullest single player experience in the series.
V may have done better online, sure, but that's 100% due to the time it released and lack of alternative similar experience on the PS4. You also have to take into account that there are much more people playing games now than ever, it's gone mainstream during GTAV's lifespan and more people have access to consoles in countries which previously couldn't afford them. What appears to be overwhelming success in V compared to IV is more than likely just a product of the times

One thing about the physics that I really liked in this game was the driving. The cars actually felt like they had weight to their movement and it was actually hard and took a few days of playing to get used to.
There’s a huge difference of this in GTA 5 and it just doesn’t have the same fun driving feel to it.

You had to move to Bohan before it really became possible and friend dates were never patient enough to reach in time from Bohan but otherwise you could do most the missions taking your time using the subways. Took Roman bowling that way, took Kiki out on many dates that way, the soothing sound of the trains coming out my speakers...

They really did an amazing job making liberty city look like New York I love how they added the statue of liberty and put that cool easter egg inside 😁 and even modeled the island the statues on after the real one. Honestly their attention to detail only goes to show how valueable their company exertions are for inspiration for their games ❤️ they made this game with so much love you can feel it every second you're playing. Im glad you gave this game the much needed attention! I loved the reactive Bullet Impact in this game and Gunplay and overall how people's body react to getting shot
like it's so detailed that the power of your gun changes it as well
if you shoot them in the leg they lose balance specially if it's a gun with a lot of fire power
if you shoot them with a shotgun it throws them off, if you shoot them in the head their head snaps back and they hit the ground, it's just so realistic.
you can even shoot them in the hand and their gun gets dropped, that's just insane to me.
like if you shoot a SWAT member and they lose their sub-machine gun then they'll take out their Pistol and if you shoot their Pistol away they run away because they don't have any guns to fight you anymore.
there's a lot of other examples like this that makes you realize how advanced the A.I is.
like how the Cops will arrest other NPCs as well if they do anything violent.
