  • In the 4th and final part of my UDS journey I briefly go over painting the barrel and finally unveil the finished product!! I am super pleased with how this turned out and cannot wait to build another one and more importantly start cooking on it!! NOTE: The wheel kit and lid hook was not part of the package and I purchased that seperately from the same webpage. There's not much else to say that I haven't already but if you you want to build your own UDS I highly suggest the kit I used and please feel free to reach out to me on Facebook and Instagram if you have any questions!

    Nice that you were able to have the Long pipes on the sides instead of just vent holes as normally they would need to be welded on. Looking Really nice too. As below looking forward to your first cook on it. I have done Pork Shoulder's, Ribs and brisket on my UDS.

    • @MadHorseBBQ
      @MadHorseBBQ  3 года назад

      Lucas Wincote thanks I appreciate that! And I could’ve got the shorter pipes but I think the longer ones looks cooler and you don’t have to bend over to adjust them.

    What prep did you do to the intake tubes/exhaust before painting? And how has the paint held up?

    Looking good!! I'm torn between building a UDS or getting the Old Country Pecos offset...I have a WSM and a PBC and a 22" and 26" Weber kettles...I can't decide...Any thoughts??

    • @MadHorseBBQ
      @MadHorseBBQ  3 года назад +2

      Randy Nelson thank you! And my obvious answer would be both. But a UDS is pretty similar to a WSM soooo....if you have the 22” WSM I’d get the offset.

    That looks awesome! How many cans did you need of the darker color?

  • @hawaiianboy2003
    @hawaiianboy2003 3 года назад

    VHT Flameproof needs to heat and cool to cure and harden.You may run into issues with paint staying tacky.

    • @MadHorseBBQ
      @MadHorseBBQ  3 года назад +1

      Hawaiian Boy hopefully not! I ran it at 250-275 for about 8 hours after I put it together with hopes that it would cure the paint.

      2.5 cans for the drum and lid and 1 for the other colored parts if I remember correctly.

    Why not grind out the inside of the drum... All that red liner stuff is in it..

    • @MadHorseBBQ
      @MadHorseBBQ  2 года назад

      Ya know I thought of that after I seasoned it. Whichever video I watched show them burning it out on a lined drum so that what I did. My next UDS build I’ll for sure grind out the inside after I burn it out.
