Great info for any one looking to build a UDS. Like your usual videos you do a great job of making things clear that otherwise may be confusing.. Yes lets see a cook.
Thanks :) I hope to do a cook this coming week. I'm waiting for that custom grill grate I ordered to arrive so I can season that because I wanna use it on the first cook...
Can't believe I'm just finally finding your channel. Heard Rus Jones mention you in a video of his that is years old. Love what you're doing! Very cool channel.
Your usual REALLY good work. Very thorough, but not excessive. I love how you always find that balance. I wonder if you could mod this drum to behave like a pit barrel cooker and hang some meat in there. Like the others, I’m looking forward to your next video where you use it!
Hey there Mr John, i had a question a bout a drum I recently pick up that was used for coolant, and it has a sealed lid, do you by chance have any suggestions for getting the lid off safely?
old question, I know, but for others reading this. You should fill up the barrel with water first to drive out any potentially explosive fumes before cutting the top off. They have exploded before with sparks flying when cutting.
You could always raise your coal basket up on bricks or a cement block to use it as a grill. This would put your coals at about the same depth as a Weber grill...
This is great. Reminds me of content back in the early days of MCM’s. Nice build, John. Do you think it needs feet to protect your deck? Can wait for the first cook!
Hi John🖐️The way you explaine how to build UDS it is five stars 👋 Could you please help me I wanna make little door on bottom of the drum for feed the fire. Could you please give me ideas how to put door on the side? Thanks John Hello from Hungary
That drum has a liner to keep it from rusting or there would have been some rust, it has a liner to keep it from rusting. I had mine Sam blasted to remove it. Trust me that steel you think you saw was a liner, not a food grade liner but a liner just the same
Pfff, I wish someone could import this parts to europe. I only have found one seller in country next to us (I'm from Belgium) and price is almost ×10... i'm building an uds right now, so if somebody can help me, please contact me
Preparing to build my first UDS. Your video was helpful. Thank you so much! 🔥👍🏼😎

Nice work John! Looking forward to the first cook on this bad boy!
Thanks Rus!
Ya think with more lower vents would make a more even fire? Nice man. You are a perfectionist. Thanks
I think the difference would be insignificant
Very nice UDS build and great info.

Great video, lots of good information.
Looks awesome John! I agree with Justin, I can't wait for the first cook.
I am looking forward to it also.. these are fun to cook on...
Nice set up 👍

Elliott and Shelley Carman yes.. there is an inexpensive mod available to do that. I might add it on at some point
As usual very nice video John
Thanks!
Nice video!! Was thinking about building one myself.
Go for it!
Great build. I light my coal baskets the same way. Nice walk thru
For the charcoal basket part. I just use a spare weber bottom part that hold the charcoal n just put in my drum. Save money
Do you smoke with a water pan in your uds?
no but you could if you wanted
if you weld in 24" closet brackets instead if installing bolts it becomes totally adjustable

Wouldn't have a clue unless its just bolted on like most of them with a band.
dat guy slick if you take a cutoff wheel and go around the outside of the lip, the lid will eventually pop off
@@eagleeyeradio5247 thank so much, would you be chance have any idea if it would be safe for bbq after a burn out process?

I am not gonna put feet on it. I have pavers if I wanna use it on the deck and I will set it on concrete otherwise...
Gotcha. It looks great man. Have fun with it. Can’t wait for the next video.
De que pulgadas es la rejilla para asar???

Hello from Hungary
That plug is used for extension cords, or electric cords.
I was curious do you , or have you built one of those ugly drums per a purchase request? If so , what did you sell it for ?
Built a few but never sold one... gave a few away
you can get just a lid like i had to do. I paid just 5$ for a nice lid. I also had a friend machine a spacer
Can u roast corn in it

No liner in this drum.. lol..

Bloody murder, I spent 80 cents building mine after a weber was given to me. I didn't spend $300 on my 200 gallon reverse flow smoker.
You get a blue ribbon :)
Food-grade liners aren’t food grade at ANY temperature….
