@@LATOMMYLA how do i get that base for the caliper? what caliper are they? liquid lines and emergency cables
Na the drums do!!!!
Well Tommy this actually WAS helpful! I first assumed you had to buy the entire trailing arms of a model with discs, but happily there do seem to be brackets out there and you can even re-use the hub!
Thanks a lot for this video! You certainly helped me!
Those brackets are nonexistent.
@@thronewalker1153 what do you mean? you ordered some and they never came?
@@thronewalker1153 "skater you can’t order them because they are not being sold anymore." i just ordered and nothing came up during the ordering process, maybe ill get a email and a refund later but so far so good
@@ukariah yeah my fault. I didn’t see the link in the description.
@@thronewalker1153 do you know if dc4 or dc2 brakes would work for this setup, i iknow the si would but i cant find any si's at junkyards near me but they are always full of dc2/4s
Sooooo basically those two brackets are all that's needed to go from drum to disc? I've got a 99 Civic EX and want disc brakes in the back,, I was preparing to build a whole new rear end just to accommodate that want for my car. $160 will take me from drum to disc?? And I'm strictly referring about the conversion not the rotors pads lines and all that other mess. Great video man and I'm super pumped I can go this route instead of whole new other trailing arms from one car and putting those into my car to make this conversation work.
Honda’s are just made easy to work on
Swapping the whole trailing arm is less time consuming and less expensive if you find a good set at the junkyard.
Its not that easy to switch the arm because sometimes they can be soo rusted out
Brian Otero Honda’s signatory rust😭😂
So were do you get does brakes im goin tha same route
Oh my God thank you for having a video that explains to my incompetence on how to do something. You earned a sub
Haha your welcome
I feel you man 🤣 i did my conversion on the ground like you too and that e brake cable was hard, i was so tired after one side too. After i completed the conversion i was so exhausted but it was worth it.
I didn't even know they came out with the rear brake conversion brackets, that makes the conversion much simpler-ish. Let's get you popular!
+david le I actually knew about these for like a year but never pulled the trigger on them haha! And hopefully!
LATOMMYLA lol I haven't even looked at rear disc stuff since maybe the first year I had my car. lmao. that was almost 5 years ago. 😂😂. keep uploading. Don't stop get it get it. #SupportyourlocalEJ8
david le always man! Got alot more coming!
Great video. Seriously. You explained everything very well. Ps. I use zip ties a lot to tuck and secure hoses and wiring.
In the ph you could get a whole trailing arm for around 150usd however. I like the idea of sourcing out parts specifically for what you want and need. Great job ☝🏼
I didn't know they made this kit. I did it the hard way. Full suspension off a ex and swapped it all over to my hatch. Pain in the ass!! But no more drums!!
This kit has been out for awhile and I just wanted to test it out! So far so good!
Still so far so good?? Trying to decide which is best
(We strongly recommend changing to a Integra rear disc master cylinder and proportioning block when doing this changeover.) How are you, brother? Did you feel the need to change the master cylinder as the site guides?
No need to use the handbrake or breaker bar to loosen the 32mm nuts ;) its a solid pin to the trailing arm :P because FWD ;)
:)
@@LATOMMYLA will this work for 98 civic ex?
this is a great video man. thanks for posting the links to the parts. keep up the great work man 👍
+Frank Dominguez thanks man!!
@@LATOMMYLA what calippers you mount in the rear axle to replace the drums?
Greeting from SPA 🤝🇪🇦
Loctite would of been a nice safety feature to use for the conversion bracket and also you should of checked for centering on the caliper and added washers as shims to make the rotor centered. Well, i really don't know if it matters but its in this write up on Honda Tech. But yeah those rotors are very small for your wheel size what size are they 17's? I'm using the scarebird conversion brackets too and they didnt' send me any shorter bolts which was puzzling because i didn't know you needed shorter bolts. The hub that the bracket bolts on on my civic seems to have bent a little on the bottom when i tightened it down also and i'm not sure why just bad casting or something. I'm doing this conversion because my brakes never worked properly nor the ebrake. Did the ebrake first cuz its better to get it out of the way in my opinion.
First off great video.
Second nice ass car
Lastly for everyday driving would you recommend changing to disc brakes?
Yes. More powerful braking is a huge safety upgrade,ESPECIALLY if your car is pushing over like 200hp
@@TristonSmith_ThePlumbingSmith Your wheels are gonna lock/abs is gonna set in way before you reach maximum braking power in everyday driving. Having discs on the rear is only better to reduce brake fading when braking hard repeatedly and for easier maintenance
@@MLarios97 okay but what civics have abs? Very few lol The civic si didn't and they had rear discs..
have you considered a trailing arm bushing replacement? You should do a video if you do so
Haven't done it yet since mine doesn't need replacement anytime soon, when the time comes to replace it I will most likely make a video of it!
LATOMMYLA heard it's a great thing to do even if the OEM one doesn't look cracked or anything. a solid bushing does wonders for handling stability.
i can tell you right now trailing arm bushings are a bitch to do i just had to do them on my 97 civic lx for it to pass inspection
ronnie cason I got a sweet tool that lets me do trailing arm bushings on the car, took me like an hour and a half a side with no brake bleeding or anything
@@armchairsniper9828 plz share
I am really surprised you just did that mod compared to all the other expensive parts you have haha. A rear disc swap would have been the first thing on my list.
It wasnt really a big change for me to do haha
Alfredo Robles it would be better but the front brakes do like 80% of the stopping so it's not going to make a big difference
It's for show.
Will this work for a 99 Honda Civic ?
I bought my rear trailing arms from a 2000 integra at the junkyard for $138 I removed them myself took like 1hour and another 45min to remove the rotors because I didn’t bring a screwdriver and ima spend another $200 on rockauto for cables, rotors, calipers, and bushings
Does this kit change the rear wheel offset like a spacer would? I feel like the hub would sit in further without the adapter plate.
+Nick Sabella it does not, the brackets are only for the calipers, the hub doesn't get touched
LATOMMYLA that's so cool thanks for the quick response!
What about changing the proportioning valve after covering drum brake to disk brake conversion, isn't that needed after the swap?
That's interesting. I just took whole rear from integra and swapped it out. 🤷♂️
shoulda just restored integra tbh
Yea, that's just a matter of opinion tho. I'm more of a civic person. 95 coupe has and will always be my favorite
His car😭❤️
Hello what holds the rotors jus the brake caliper no screws ?
Great Vid mang! Was about to buy and change the whole rear of my civic. Thankfull I found this vid first.. Question: will the e brake cables, 40/40 prop valve, and bracket you linked or mentioned fit on my 95 civic or do I have to order them for my year specs?
Luis Cruz I second this
this is an interesting kit. seems like everyone does the complete RTA's. I snagged mine off a DC integra for my swap on my 91 hatch. This would have been about the same price but wouldn't have taken as much work. I need to see if they make brackets for a big brake setup for the front.
Yeah, these require way less work and Im not too sure about front brakes from them
LATOMMYLA they do make a bracket!!! apparently allows you to run the Corrado rotors and some version of a Chevy caliper with 2 1/4" pistons vs 2"
Damnn, thats crazy haha!
@@LATOMMYLA just saw your video Tommy its great.. I have a 03 civic coupe can u provide a list of parts or website where u got yours when u can thanks
Dude I use to see you drive up n down LV road n always thought ur coupe was sick af at the time I had a stanced ek sedan idk if u ever saw it but just found ur YT n got hyped lol keep it up man channel is dope👍👍
Thanks man and maybe I've seen it haha, and thanks man!
LATOMMYLA I got rid of it a couple months ago I got a white eg coupe now with bard b18
Nice! Ill probably see you around haha
LATOMMYLA fuck yea man lmk if you're running outta things for content my whip needs a lot of work lol
All of this is great, except for one thing. Wouldnt you need a master cylinder upgrade too?
Do u need both e break cables? I’ve seen a left and a right one
You need both sides
That’s for asking this.

Thanks man!
OK I see I see and a couple parts numbers in the comments going to start working on this build thanks good video
Good luck on yours!
sick as hell
Haha thanks mann!!
did you do this mod? which calipers did you use 99SI or are there any other cars that would work, i was hoping dc4/dc2 brakes would work
I know this is an old video but I want to do this conversion but I have a 2005 Honda civic coupe, any idea if the same brackets will fit
One more question is what's that braket at 9:52, does it come with one of the pieces you ordered online ? And great vid, makes it look supper easy 🙂
Is does not, I ordered from Honda, Part #43247-SH3-931
Drum brakes are actually better for pure stopping power, they just heat up quickly and retain heat, so on a track after a couple laps you lose stopping power as they fail from heat. Disc brakes cool much better, so you retain good brake power for longer.
Hey man great video, just one question, did you upgrade the prop valve for this? if so what should you replace it with? I'm very much interested in doing the same conversion, I've heard people say that you would need to change the prop valve as well. Please share your thoughts on this. Cheers.
Much appreciated sand procedure for a 93 del sol
Wow interesting..
Merry Christmas, hope you had a wonderful time. 👍
Thank you, Merry Late Christmas to you too!
What kinda kit and where to get one?
did a Acura rear disc conversion on my track eg, was a pain in the ass haha especially since on of the trailing arms I got had a bent spindle.... also I didn't even bother taking off the drum, just cut the old ebrake cable and dropped the whole thing and swapped new trailing arms in. probably won't replace the ebrake cables, it's a track car, won't be using the ebrake much anyway 😂😂
Haha, I would put ebrake cables just incase!
Hoping the bracket company gets back to me trying to do this kit for my em2 but no one sells this bracket. Awesome video tho gets me stoked to try and do this
Should try and send them an email!
What calipers do you need for the conversion kit?
id love to know also
Another question for you.. after you did your conversion did you do anything to the proportioning valve or the master cylinder. I have seen discussion you must change them, others say you don't need to.. thoughts or opinions on this?
I got a 40/40 prop valve from honda to finish it off!
Will the wilwood brake calipers and rotors bolt up with the scarebird conversion bracket?!? Any tips would definitely help. Keep up the good work!
Thank god for this video ill be doing the rear disk on my ek soon
Can you update the parts list urls all are broken. Thanks
Dude your car is so clean. Fuckin kanjo style I love it.
Wish you lived closer I think we be best friends lol good vid keep up the good work
Haha, thank you man!
Aye bro I'm trying to do the rear disc conversion but can't find the brackets for the calipers to mount on were did you get yours at????
was it a difference in braking power which made it worth doing?
Nice conversion. Just don't forget to bag your lines so you don't get that crap in your eyes or fall on the stuff while working.
Finally good job.
congrats bro and nice video soon I'll be working on mine 👍
Thanks man! And if you have any questions lemme know!
LATOMMYLA thanks bro 👌
Hey! I hope you reply, but what proportioning valve did you use to do this. I've seen a few types. I've got a 96 Lx with A.C.. Im going from 96 civic drums and I'm going to 97 Integra disks.
Sick vid. Great job 👍👍👍
+mylifeisJDM thank you!
Very nice build; Is this conversion safe though compared to the regular rear disc swap?
Just curious I do not need this, but maybe people need to know
Thank you, and I consider it safe
LATOMMYLA Home Depot approved! 😅
LATOMMYLA where can I get all parts from to do my swap and from what car
Do you have any tips for breaking free some seized up coilovers ? love yo vids btw
+XxCrAzY509xX PB blaster or flathead and hammer haha
Is the 40/40 prop valve really needed for this to work?
Yea
Just completed this project and also did the Scarebird front conversion.
Easy going on the front and back until the fucking Parking Brake cables.
Dope, u must've had a teacher to learn everything you do.
Will this work on a 96 civic hatchback??
Yes any 96-00 with rear drums its a universal bracket kit but u gotta order prop valve brake lines rotors pads n calipers seperate
Thank
Can you use the Integra rear brake hoses to the calipers? The link in your description for the stainless steel brakes hoses is to a Instagram account.
Yes you can!
So I just gotta buy scarebird brackets, si calipers, pads, rotors and cables?
What calipers are those? I have a kswaped ek coupe and want to convert to disc.
Scarebird only makes that bracket for 84-97. you think it would work on my 99 hatch? I think so since 96-00 civic are identical. What do you think?
Nice conversion! :)
Have you thought about the Scarebird front brake kit with the Corrado rotors and Chevy calipers?
Where can you get replacement pads, rotors, and calipers when needed? Or what vehicle can be cross-referenced? Thanks
seems like a harder more expensive route. Have you considered swapping integra breaks? i picked up the full set front and rear including the trailing arms and calipers for 268. then just pick your pads and rotors and change the proportioning valve and my hatch stops on a dime.
I paid roughly $220, and these are pretty much integra brakes, calipers & rotors.
I know this was made 3 years ago, but do you need to replace the brake lines? Or do you just need the kit to change the hub to rotor?
you went to oem honda to get all those parts?
they still make those parts??
Only the prop valve and ebrake cable bracket
What’s the part number on those 2 items ?
Sick coupe!! I have one also I might start making vids but am scared to haha but anyways what read dic conversion is that?
Just make them man! Check out the link in the description, I have it all there
Some of the links ain’t working for me
What year calipers are you using ?
WhAt rear discs are you using? And what year 40/40 valve or part number
please I want to convert my 1996 honda civic rear drum breaks to disc brakes can you please give me a list of the items to get and if possible amazon link where I can get it .thanks
I recently bought one. I want to upgrade to disc brakes. What can I put there ? Do the CRV or the accord discs fit on it ?
Do you have to remove the springs and shoes to reach the bolts... seems like you could just yank it off and be done with it?
Just undue the brake line and the 4 bolts that hold the backing plate and take it off as a hole
Hey man I got a ton of mods in mind you should do. I'm going to be buying this car used from you one day. lol
I recently did this conversion the full trailing arms from a 95 ex to my 92 lx but for some reasson when i hit the brakes it doesn't lock up the wheels just keeps rolling but slowly stops the car.. did i miss something? I have like 3 40/40 valves one is on the car i upgrades brake booster and master but idk what could be the issue.
+brian sanchez if your pedal is soft then you most likely would have air bubbles in your lines and didn't bleed it properly.
Thanks for sharing, informative video.
Your welcome!
Great video, what year/model did you get the calipers from??
i was wondering what calipers you used ?? since the disks are for a 00 integra according to your link when i click it. so would i want to use integra calipers as well ? also did you change your master cyl. and brake booster as well ?? and did you also swap the brake lines or reuse?
Hello,
I want to know if a drum conversion to disk brake can be done on a 2001 Honda Civic EX, 4-door Sedan, 1.7 Vtech Engine and by any chance do you know what kit is suitable for this conversion?
Thanks :)
Just wondering what size the rear rotors you used are? Trying to figure out how to do a Type-R rear upgrade, already have Integra F/R brake upgrade on my EG and I cant figure out if its as easy as getting Type-R rear calipers and rotors? Haha, thanks.
Is it cheaper to get the whole set or the kit.
Hey man what lca's did you use. I just got some j2's and they were not what I was expecting. There pins are too short. Also does this Delete the park brake?
GAWD ALMIGHTY! No wonder a brake conversion job can cost over $2,000!
What calipers did you use?
I want to convert my drums brakes to a rotors where can I buy all the hardware and brackets
You thinks it’s possible?
What is the bracket for that you mention in the beginning of the video? I’ve order everything to do this swap but that. Also what’s the part number? thank you.
Did someone tried to do this on a car with ABS just in the front ? Did someone retrofitted the ABS to the rear ?
What brand or kind of struts and cross arms are those I love them... They look good
Hi, How about Scion XA can Rear Disc conversion too?
On the ad for the bracket it says it's for a 85-97, but I got a 99 civic. I don't think it'll work right?
Awesome job man, lots of elbow grease there...
Why did you decide on this kit instead of a conventional trailing arm swap
Did you make sure to put the indent back on that nut? On the side you did it didn't look like you indented it back in lol
Video is definitely gonna help me out when my brakes come in! I might add you on xbox
This is a dumb problem to have but I can’t find the right size banjo bolt. (For the brake line to caliper) what size did you use???
The reason why doesn’t stop better is because you need to switch the proportion of valve Get it from SI
Where you got the stuff to make disc conversion let me know ok
