Thanks! Yes it's interesting how shrimp modulate their breeding behavior according to how much food/crowding the tank has ... though I think ample food can break the limitation somewhat. It's odd that the shrimp have this kind of instinctive "wisdom" about their environment and whether its suitable for their young. Wish they could share this wisdom with another species I can think of.
Plants of various kind. Moss. Floating. Pot. Helps with increasing biofilm and surface for growth. As long there is additional surface they will grow on it. Supplementary biofilm are added for specific reasons with a goal in mind.

That's what I thought! I love seeing my shrimp everywhere... If there is enough food, surely they understand there is plenty more food?
You talk a lot about the importance of protein-rich biofilm. May I ask what you do to promote biofilm growth, aside from adding the lubao?
