I run 5g caridina tanks. My oldest one probably has 40+ shrimp including a couple batches of babies, but it looks pretty crowded. Haven’t seen any berried females for a few weeks since the last batch, but it definitely works and great for dealing with limited space.
I love Undergravel filter boxes. I use a sponge filter in conjunction.. so when time I dump the media in the filter box.. refill with Brightwell, and put it back in. No issues wirh ammonia spike with that soil and no tank reset! 😊
Hi Ray… thanks on the past tips regarding the Sulawesi setup… it is on cycle stage… besides the Sulawesi… I also started a Caridina tank… but my pH hovers around 6.8 using RO water+APT SKY for dGH around 5… should I add black water to achieve lower pH? P/S : Using Netlea No.1 Substrate and Lava Rock as scapes 😊
thank you for your support and kind words. I find when the pH is around 6.8 it works well for crystal shrimp, red, black and super. For higher end like boa and galaxy fishbone, i find they do better in pH loweer than 6. But it really depends on your source of shrimp and how that breeder kept theirs in. I would consider adding black water to achieve the pH. something i've been doing past 3-5 years with a lot of success. Hope that helps and keep us updated on your results. Wishing you success!
that's what i use, but play around with the amount. different products have different concentrations. i have used 5 products so far and they all give semi different results with different dosages@@noreenazrinaabdulmanan
@@RWAquariumPageswill do Ray… will use your measurements for a general guide 😉 thanks for the never ending support😊 … hoping for success in this shrimpy joirney 😁
Thanks for the vid RW! Just a question about cycling, how does one cycle at a low ph? My ph is at 5.5 and my cycle seem to have stalled (for caridina shrimps).
@@RWAquariumPages gotcha! That's a tough one to come by these days, and expensive since they're no longer in production. What would be your back up soil if you're unable to get more ada gold bag?
Hi there - really enjoying your video content. It’s very helpful. I had a question about ph. So how long does it take newly introduced shrimp substrate to lower water ph? I am using RO water with Shrimpy Bee to get gh sorted but my ph seems be staying at about 6.8. Am I maybe just being impatient? Does it reduce gradually maybe? I’m new to shrimp keeping so any advice would be great. Thanks

@@RWAquariumPagesthanks Ray for the tips … again 😅… will try add black water soon… 5ml per 10 gallon IIRC right?

Thx for the question. Do you use a bacteria product? Or you can use filter media from another cycled tank to help
No bacteria products used, used a filter media but no nitrates/nitrites after a month now
what aquasoil do you use for a 5.5 ph? would love to hit that lower ph!
great question, i'm currently using ada maazonia gold bag@@kandyrew

hmm, with rodi water, the ph does take about a day to lower the pH
Hello RW, coud I know why my shirmp muscle become white?
Could be bacteria infection or muscle necrosis. What's the temp in that aquarium like?
