I tried out Tru Motion on my C2. And it was surprisingly playable.
I don't like input lag, but I keep switching between off and on.
Zelda doesn't require fast precision in most scenarios, so the input lag becomes unnoticeable after a while when not consciously looking for it.
But I do prefer it more turned off, to be honest. Tru Motion is definitely a viable option here, though.

You can't compare the smoothness and clarity of LG TruMotion with GMP as if it is the same. Samsungs GMP is less smooth due to less processing for lower input lag. Samsung outside Game Mode has much more headroom in terms of smoothness, still with less input lag than LG.
The stutter you're seeing on Samsung wasn't always like that. S95B on 13XX and earlier had much smoother interpolation. Hopefully fixed in updates.
LG G2/G3 with TruMotion: 85.6 ms
    Samsung S95C GMP: 19.4
Samsung S95C Interpolation outside Game Mode: 63.0 ms

Great video man. Glad you did this comparison. To see an effect on the S95C and make it more comparable to LG’s Tru Motion, take it out of game mode and use Auto Motion Plus (or whatever the motion setting is).

I really enjoy your content but this comparison really doesn’t make much sense: both the Samsung and LG have the motion interpolation option on non gaming image setting, Samsung here also offers that option inside gaming mode, which is only a plus comparing to LG that doesn’t offer the same. I don't know how it compares so the S95 he's showing here. But my s90c is fantastic with input lag in all modes. I returned a Sony A80L because you could only use game mode to play games because it was the only mode with acceptable input lag. My Samsung s90c on the other hand has unnoticed input lag in all modes. I've never even considered input lag while using it. So I use different modes depending on the game, the color palette of the game, and the native performance of the game. Also, different game engines respond either better or worse to things like game motion plus. Some games will create way too much ghosting, and others with the same performance seem flawless in that same mode. I mainly use the motion plus for 30fps games because it gives a good feeling like it's playing at a higher framerate. My s90c really makes Tears of Kingdom feel like it's running at nearly 60fps and it's great. So to summarize, it depends on the game, the game engine, the framerate, and more importantly the frame pacing. For instance, Bloodborne, is unplayable in the motion plus modes because the bad frame pacing just won't play nice with the frame generation that game motion plus is trying to simulate. But a game like Spider-Man 2, I can play in the high fidelity 30fps mode in motion plus and the game really feels like a higher framerate game, and I get to keep all the bells and whistles of quality mode. All these frame injection/smoothing technologies are truly getting better and I can't wait to see where we are a decade from now. I enjoyed this video

  • @YOBAMUSTDIE

You can enable motion smoothing on LG game mode hacky way, you need to connect it via HDMI to PC, open program LG color control, set bindings of settings to sole keys on keyboard. Switch to HDMI port connect to console, set game mode, and press key combo you just bound, this will override disabled greyed out settings for active mode. It works with any greyed out settings in any mode. And in game mode while motion smoothing will still increase input lag, it will be lower in general than in other modes, because processing for other things is turned off. Also to smooth out 30 fps without using motion smoothing, always set PC or Console before playing any 30 fps locked game Into 30 hz mode, almost every modern tvs and displays when fps and refresh rate doesn't match you are getting very noticeable stuttering, but when you set output refresh to match input fps it looks and feels much better and input lag seems lower. Also try to enable LLC and Freesync/Gsync/Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) on tv and your PC or console, even if some of this doesn't support it officially, it still helps to smooth things out. Many people set console or PC to 60 hz or 120 hz or even 144 hz and then play games that locked to 30 fps and it feels absolutely laggy and starters like hell, but nobody knows that system refresh rate should be same as fps and it actually feels and look smooth, even 30 fps. It seem like even modern developers, including Valve, don't know what they doing and that games in 30 fps needs matching refresh rate of 30 hz otherwise it's will be lag and stutter fest, and good evidence they don't know what they doing is the fact that Valve allows steam deck to lock fps to 30, but doesn't allow to set refresh rate lower than 40, even on HDMI connection, that's why it feels laggy no matter what. Not sure if switch does same mistake I don't have one but there probably some global setting for refresh rate that works for every game, same as on xbox. And this also proves that even Microsoft don't know what they doing, there should be per game settings on every console and in PC drivers that will force refresh rate for this game as set, because for 30 fps locked games you need 30 hz, for 60 fps games you need 60 hz for 25 or 25 fps games you need 24 or 25 hz. Some very old games (one I remember is Heart of darkness PC/ps1) actually had 15 fps and they need 14-15hz mode! Many devices nowadays don't even support this mode anymore despite its very easy to in implement. Also this problem also affects movie players if you watching movie with refresh rate not matching movie fps it's stuttering!!! Gladly some players like MPC allows to switch to marching resolution and refresh rate on fly for every video file so you don't have to create separate profiles, but why non of game consoles and PC doesn't have this feature to auto switch to refresh rate that matches fps is beyond my understanding, industry leaders seems to be loosing average IQ by 1-2 scores every year for last 20 years 😢.

Judder Reduction on Samsungs Game Motion Plus interpolates 30FPS to 60FPS and Blur Reduction interpolates 60FPS to 120FPS.
Imho GMP is a highly underrated feature of Samsung TVs, because it is directly implemented into the game mode and designed for keeping the input lag low. Especially Blur Reduction works very well on titles with 60FPS, e.g. Cyberpunk 2077 on the PS5. Motion looks extremly crisp with it being enabled. There is not a big difference if the title would run natively on 120FPS.
I am really not a Samsung Fanboy, but I need to say that your comparison is not fair. LGs True Motion should be rather compared with Samsungs motion interpolation outside of game mode.

I have NU8000, probably the very first TV with Game Motion Plus. And it's really simple - for 30 FPS games, it brings something close to 40 FPS experience. Not more. Another problem is that it requires absolutely stable framepacing. If the framepacing is uneven (which is very often the case), then every stutter is exaggerated with GM+. So what you see with Zelda is probably uneven frame rate cap which leads to stutters. This doesn't hapen with LG because the standard interpolation waits for the upcoming frame until it calculates the frame in between. However, that brings horrible lag. Samsung on the other hand predicts the next frame with motion vectors so it can keep the lag low, altough the generated frames don't look as perfect.
Overall, don't expect 30 FPS to look good even with GM+. For 60 FPS games, well, that's a different story. That brings experience close to 120 FPS.

Samsung are onto something. I gave game motion plus a go and it's just not quite good enough with the stuttering to warrant it. But the input lag is still great. If they could find a happy medium where I can play single player 30fps games boosted to 60fps with stutter free motion interpolation that comes in under 50 ms input lag I think that would be great.

Actually, the picture clarity settings in the other modes other than the game mode is almost the same as lg's trumotion. But it's worth mentioning that, after comparing these two, I found that Trumotion is a bit better since it provides less ghosting and tearing than my QN90B, but the input lag of both is unacceptable to me, that's why I chose gamemotionplus ultimately, it provides an unstable and around 40fps experience as well as a satisfactory lag, not good enough, but still better than the original annoying 25-30fps.
Incidentally, when it comes to a noticeable framerate drop, the normal motionplus mode(which is the one that has higher lag) performs much worse than gamemotionplus since the fps dropped from a fake 60 to about 20, and we all know that this always happens in ToTK.😅

In the other hand letting everything to 0 and just activate it the Motion Plus still kicks in and make your games look and run 20 times better but actually the input lag will be so insignificant in difference since your game bar will only go down from Fastest to Faster and not all the way down to Fast. For me it actually increase the sensación of 120fps and actually the game looks way better and color vibrant with it on with basically no input lag difference in my games whatsoever, actually I have the felling they run smoother than without the game motion plus ON.( Remember, just activate it and never touch Blur reduction or Judder).

Samsung is the only brand that has a motion interpolation feature for game mode, it smooths the movement as much as possible without having a noticeable input lag, if you turn off the game mode and enable judder reduction to max, you'll get pretty much the same result as in the LG, naturally, this will considerably increase input lag too.

You need to play on PC with a good gpu at 120hz/120fps to see the real good results of the Trumotion (High) without flickering (Only C1/G1 models). The motion clarity is like playing at 312fps on a regular oled, with zero artifacts and only a (relatively) great impact on the scene brightness which can be compensated by raising the black balance so as not to lose details in shadows.

I actually own both an LG C2 and a Samsung QN900a and on both TVs, 30 FPS games just don't feel that great to play on these TVs without increasing the FPS to 60 FPS because the TVs give off so much more stuttering than before on a 60hz TV. I did own a 4k 60 FPS tv before this and I didn't think it was going to be a problem going up to a 120 hz TV not realizing the stuttering look of the gameplay was going to be a bigger problem here and it doesn't feel that great to play without motion plus enabled.

Man, I think it's great you got an S95C and all but comparing it to the G2 like this is kinda pointless. they're not actually competing with each other, the G2 is an older model it doesn't have the latest LG processing, it isn't as bright as the G3 and we already know these things, and the G2 is discounted now, if someone is looking at the s95c their other option would be the g3 not the g2. I do look forward to recommended HDR settings for the s95c tho, and since it's brightness is actually close to the G3, whoever has a G3 can easily make one or two adjustments and have it reflect to their G3, of course would be better if you had the two of them, in which case comparing the two would be great, but I understand there's limits to what one can spend.

That option is awful on all TVs, it's a feature named black frame interpolation/insertion and, while it does smooth movement a bit more, it lowers the TVs brightness too much while also making it look like the light is always flashing intermittently (and technically, it is, hence the name)
Couldn't watch with this option enabled for more than 5 mins before getting headaches
