I hate playing handheld on the switch to be honest. I wish they had come out with an XL version. Grips can make it better, but still.. I'd also rather play on a higher resolution handheld
Thanks for this, this is quite reassuring. I've been wanting to play Wonder on my Steam Deck, but I think I'll wait for Yuzu to optimize it further. Considering its running at 60 FPS at most already, it shouldn't take them too long to remove the dips, stutters, and make it stable. The dips and stutters is gonna trigger my OCD xD I hope the stable version of Steam OS 3.5 will release soon
Stable steam is 3.5 has just been painfully dragged out. Fortunately you still get good performance without it. Just remember to disable smt when you do get around to playing!
I was trying this game on my new 7840u WM2 last night, but I'm not running the GPD drivers. Instead I'm using the latest AMD drivers and the latest mainline Yuzu build. My device didn't want to go over around 12W for this game even though it wasn't capping out at 60 fps. I guess I'll go try GPD's drivers! Thanks for the video.
No problem! There is something strange with the official drivers for switch emu on yuzu. For the best results I set motion assistant to 15w and then set the GPU to stable instead of float. I believe it limited it to about 1000-1200 mhz. That alongside the gpd drivers make it extremely playable. I did also try core parking (similar to smt on off for steam os) but I could not get any noticeable benefit from doing so. As such I didn't include that in the video.

Very compremending video and it's really nice that you tested 3.4.XX vs. 3.5.X (Steamdeck) and in this game at least, it doesn't affect performance so much. 🙂
@@WinDeckTechIt's the opposite, they try to force everyone into their closed ecosystem, so you pay for the console and then have restricted access to games, all of which Nintendo also makes money on. Ultimately, most gamers are going to buy a Switch, then buy at minimum 3-4 games. That makes Nintendo a shit ton of money. If they released their games on PC, piracy would be a lot easier (because of not requiring an emulator to be developed along with being much easier to run on lower powered devices) and they'd have to make a new game store entirely to maintain their control. Why release on PC when 80% of PC players are going to own a Switch anyway?
Nope that is the 512gb matte version. I do have a steam deck with a broken screen and have the deck HD on order to replace that with. I'll then have a stock steam deck screen 512gb screen and deck HD to compare

I have the legion go and i have just loaded Yuzu on it... I had Mario running on the deck and I had applied the tweaks the same as you but I don't see those Deck options on the LGO... The issue i have is the frames crash like it did pre mod on the deck and I can't get full screen :?

That is super strange. I assume you've made sure that the settings are the same. The only thing thing I can think of is potentially converting it from nsp format to xci or vice versa

Well said! It's honestly one of the best Mario experiences I've had in a while. Some switch emulation is good/better on the ally/steam deck but obviously things like totk still perform, slightly better or more predictably on the switch. Not mentioned here but it is alleged that this game runs on the same engine as TOTK and Splatoon. Just goes to show how versatile the switch still is, with first party software. I just wish they would finally move past it and release something, somewhat current. I'm not asking for anything as powerful as the ally, but if Nintendo had something even half as powerful as the ally. Just imagine what crazy achievements they could have. Throw in the rumoured DLSS 3 (no frame gen apparently) and rt cores... I could very well see the new switch being a realistic rival to something like the steam deck or ally. They are both great machines but it always gets to the Nintendo point in time where new games just don't come to the system at the same time, at all or even in good shape. Being on a modern architecture would give them a lot more breathing room but they are likely going to undervolt/downclock their chips again for battery life. I'm just happy to exist in a world where I have the choice to play wherever I want.

I know we might not see a true 4K version of Mario and friends but heck I'll take 4K upscaling if they could release it soon. For sure it will have some Nvidia tech in it and I can't wait for it. couple more things you say to have accuracy level set to normal but isnt yours set to high? looking at your settings on the bottom bar of yuzu itself in red it says high not normal? and does it matter if its xci or nsp as ive got the nsp version, surely converting it to xci isnt gonna make a big fps difference?
I have had some weirdness with xci and nsp files on both ryujinx and yuzu. Typically though, that will mean it just doesn't launch. It shouldn't make any difference to performance. It says High at the bottom for mine because I set the individual game settings to what I have shown. I left the global defaults as is, which is High gpu accuracy. When you launch the game it will changeover to what you've set.
does it make a difference if i use mainline yuzu i have 1601 build i think is the latest how much better is it on EA build of yuzu? also how much difference does disabling smt make as to be honest i tried running the same level twice once playing with smt on and the other with smt off and i really didnt notice any performance difference between the two runs
SMT off for me has had pretty but performance gains, more in the stability of it. Yuzu EA is typically your best bet for the most up to date patches and performance tweaks for the latest games.

I'd say if you're using it as a complimentary device to your PC. Go for the steam deck. Anything you can't run on there you could play on your PC (depending on spec) If you're looking for a more complete powerhouse I'd go ally. However steam deck is often a lot better for emulation. As you can see in this video there were less dips in perf. But it's not going to run TOTK.

I also got gpu and 2 Xbox that’s why ally was very close to pick even with double the price.But I want something to play on the go and steam deck looks like a good deal , even with less power on it. @@WinDeckTechOk, i found alternative settings that do give me almost perfect 60fps cpu - auto Graphics: Window Adapting Filter - scaleforce Anti aliasing FXAA ATSC - BC3 enable reactive flushing asynchronous shader fast gpu time vulkan pipeline cache Barrier feedback loops (rest unchecked) Will fiddle with it a bit more, but seems to work perfect so far :)
When you are in the controller settings, you have to make sure you have it set to the correct xbox controller. The ally controller is listed as an xbox one as well.
I've been playing the game this whole weekend with my daughter I love the new game been playing it on my Asus rog ally on yuzu and its a fun game man 👍👏👏😎
@@WinDeckTech strange, the settings mentioned in this video were already set in my version of Yuzu and I used EmuDeck to install it. Hadn’t touched anything in any of the settings.

However I seem to always remember regardless of build, async shader building and GPU time hack would be off. GPU Accuracy would be set to high as well. Potentially EmuDeck changes the settings as well. I haven't used EmuDeck in a long time or on Windows at all.
What do you mean, sorry. Do you mean in file explorer or in yuzu itself. If it's in yuzu, you have to double click to add a folder path. Sometimes I have had issues where my games weren't recognized due to file type as well. (XCI/NSP)

i'm having huge fps drops on Ally. Tried it in 1080/900/720, not much of a difference there...
Resolution shouldn't make much of a difference.
Try clearing your shader cache. Ensure that you are running YUZU Early Access, if you can.

Yeah it likely will happen across any system. Getting into some of the later wonder effects for sure cause a lot of chaos.
Why does the ROG Ally perform worse than the Steam deck? Isnt the CPU much better?
While the cpu/APU is much stronger, the Mesa drivers and efficiencies of Linux often help performance out greatly on the deck.
My ally will not map controllers to play with the machine its self. My Xbox controller works fine but not when
i set it to the 360 mapping profile

Dog 720p vs 1080p run the ally at handheld mode and it runs no studders
