thanks for using my wii u background video! i uploaded it because i think it looked really nice, but im liking how everyone in the community is using it!
Wow! It's great to see you found this video! Big thanks to your background ❤️ It was a look I had dreamed about for this project, and I couldn't have done it without your video! Here's to keeping the WiiU Alive and Well 🤘
@hatcheddigstudios you can go to wiiu.hacks.guide/ to glimpse into how to mod, as for the eshop guide I don't remember where I went, but it's called NUSspli :)
Also, a modded Wii U can play Gamecube games NATIVELY. You can even play them directly on the gamepad, and they look absolutely perfect on that 480p screen
Now if only there were a way to get the GameCube adapter to work with the GameCube games. I can't use Pokemon Colosseum on a Wii U if there's no connectivity to my GBA games, especially since I use my Wii and its GameCube slot as a way to back up my GBA saves for safe storage, and the GameCube adapter as far as I know has never been modified to work with GameCube games, even for just using a regular GameCube controller.
@@Lucifronzactually u can use gamecube controllers in the wii u using the same gamecube adapter as the switch (just the originals one works) and the controller will work with the gc games perfectly and even with wiiu games using homebrew
And thanks to HID2VPad (a Homebrew app), now you can use your GC adapter on any Wii U game as a replacement of the Wii U Gamepad or the Wii U Pro Controller ! The remaining buttons are triggered by button combos (example : L+Z = ZL)
One thing I'll say about the Wii U is that when you turn it on and the home screen shows up, it makes you feel like, "Yep, we're playing *fun* videogames today."
@@jalene150I played the Wii U every day the games on that bitch were arcade games with infinite replayability and the homebrew was god like I was never bored using that console I used my Wii U until it stopped working
I think most Nintendo fans agree that the Iwata Era was Nintendo's most creative and fun. Especially me who grow up with the Wi/DS and the Wii U/3DS consoles
Man, bought a WiiU last year, for mostly the same reasons. Had a blast finally playing Twilight Princess (can I just say, I'm an ADULT, but naming your horse in that game "m'dick" is the best decision I've ever made), and so many others. Got an external HDD and SD card, and enjoying a HUGE catalog of games. Can't believe I never got one when it launched(which is probably what a lot of people are saying now)
Love to hear it! Honestly now is the best time to get a U. So you joined just at the right time to really enjoy it 🤘 And man there is nothing more adult than giving link or the horse a funny name. It's our duty to make it funny
I've had that game downloaded for a while but been putting it off as I exhausted BotW, and I never got round to finishing WW, looking forward to having my first TP experience one of these days!
I bought my Wii U in 2019 and was probably my favorite system I ever owned. Having never had Wii, I was sorely missing all those Wii games, and with the backwards compatibility with that along with the massive virtual console, it was just an amazing console with an amazing library of possible games. I did end up getting a Switch last year just so I could play TOTK but I really love the Wii U.
Been treating this thing as my ultimate Nintendo machine. Absolutely love being able to archive everything on one machine, couple that with the vWii and you have a mean machine indeed. May have had a rocky life but homebrew certainly has done its magic. Funnily enough, the original Classic Controller for the Wii-mote actually has analogue triggers, though I guess due to lack of support, they were gutted on the pro.
I never use the vWii. I've just injected all the Wii games I want to play into Wii virtual console titles so I can launch them from the Wii U menu. This allows them to be stored on the same hard drive as Wii U games, while homebrew on the vWii would required a different file system. I don't see any good reason to not do it this way, except that the vWii formatted hard drive makes adding games easier.
Still use my wii u to this day. That screen controller is one of the nicest feeling controllers Nintendo ever put out imo and is considerably more satisfying to use than the switch joycons.
@@KotBox honestly it just looks like a gamepad with a big slot in the bottom. I'm planning on doing another at some point when I'm out of hospital so I might have to document it, it would make a good first video.
@@KotBox I can't play my switch in handheld mode cause my hands are also too big for the joycons. Thank god I had the foresight to just buy the pro controller when I got my switch, otherwise I would never play on it at all. I get that hands as big as mine are a rare thing, and that nintendo mainly makes their consoles for children with considerably smaller ones, but it still sucks to be completely cut off from the main selling point of the console because of my genetics.
Always a treat to find a high quality video from a channel I’ve never watched before. Anyways, I still play my Wii U on and off. Currently playing Paper Mario 64 on it. Love the system and it was a great multiplayer system when I was in college for Mario Kart and Smash 4
Amazing video! Also for anyone who didnt know, you CAN make game folders on the switch! if your switch is updated you can go to the place where you see all your games listed and press L then it should pull up how to make folders. I'm saying this because of 8:02
This is true! I thought about that as I was editing that part of the video, but left it in anyway. I was happy they added the folders to Switch, but man I wish it wasn't just in the collection menu. Was hoping they could have them on the home screen
Die hard Wii U defender here! I bought mine at launch and still consider it to be Nintendo's best system (with the 3DS being second)! I think the Wii U is better than the Switch in almost every way. You should really try playing Splatoon before they shut the servers down next year! It's one of the best games on Wii U and I think the first Splatoon is better than 2 or 3. I've been playing Nintendo systems since I got an NES in 1990, though lately I spend more time on my Xbox because I love achievements. lol
How is even remotely as good as the switch? Sure the software may be better if you want the most Nintendo UI but the minimalist UI on the switch is actually really great to make the switch feel fast even today. The gamepad is more comfortable but you can get aftermarket controllers and it's fully portable with a way better tablet display.... Buying games, you got me there....until you mod the switch 😂 lol. Honestly, I'm glad I sold my Wii U!
Hahaha, when I read that you're a die-hard Wii U defender and that you still consider its to be Nintendo's best system, I was compelled to upvote your comment. I thought, "The only way I'd take back my upvote would be if he dumps on Splatoon; especially Splatoon 1," before I continued reading your comment! I will tell anyone who will listen and depending on the situation, maybe waste my breath on telling people who won't listen, that Splatoon 1 has lower controller input latency than Splatoon 2 and Splatoon 3, likely due to the hardware, making for a more responsive experience and higher internet tick rate, meaning the online matches refresh the information sent between players more frequently, making for more precisely in-the-moment gameplay. Also, free online. I know the online is going away in 2024's April, but due to the games' matches being hosted via "peer to peer" connection, the home-brew "Pretendo Network" will let you continue to play with others online who have also modded their Wii Us to get onto the Pretendo Network. I scooped up Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water and Affordable Space Adventures before the eShop closed due to their implementation of the Gamepad making them unique. Maiden of Black Water, in addition to Scribblenauts Unlimited and Tekken Tag Tournament 2, also have special Nintendo costumes and items that even their Switch ports lack, due to those being ports of other platforms' ports. Also, Zombi U straight-up has a whole mode that is missing from all other ports, due to how the Wii U allows for very interesting asymmetric gameplay. I got Scribblenauts Unlimited, Zombi U, Xenoblade Chronicles X, Batman: Arkham City Armored Edition, Resident Evil Revelations 1, the DLC for Smash For and Zelda Breath of the Wild and some DS and Wii games before the eShop closed, including the rare "Project Rainfall" title, Pandora's Tower. I really appreciate how the Wii U is more sturdy, like the hardware that Nintendo is known for, unlike the Switch. When people talk about "Nintendo charm" that the Wii U had, most neglect to mention that the Wii U remembers and celebrates your birthday! (Your account's Mii's birthday.)
@@Wei_Radula_Regiment I love the Mii's birthday celebration! I still often turn on the Wii U on either my kids or my birthday, just to watch them. I grabbed a handful of games also (on both my Wii U and 3DS), when the eshops closed. In addition to your points about Splatoon 1, there was also the benefit of having the map permanently on the gamepad screen, which both made it easy to check and very quick to launch to teammates. I also found the maps to be better. There was more verticality and they weren't all squares/rectangles (salt spray rig for example). Salmon Run is good in 2 and 3, and I'm glad that Splatoon has reached a new level of popularity because of the Switch, but I'll always miss the first Splatoon game and don't think any sequels will be as good. I wonder how many people realize that half of the Switch's great games are either ports from the Wii U (Mario Kart 8, Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze, LoZ: BOTW, etc) or sequels to Wii U games that play are very similar (Splatoon, Smash Bros, etc).
As someone who played the wiiu through A LOT of my childhood (I’m 16 so I’m still in my childhood, but you get the point) I’m glad it’s finally getting its recognition
I recently brought my Wii U back down to my main gaming setup and it makes me happy to have it there again 😊 and anyone making videos about the Wii U puts a smile on my face! I’ve been a Wii U enthusiast since I got one in 2013 and didn’t really pay attention to the poor sales cuz for 1, I was just happy to get more into gaming, 2, I was 13 so like… who cares 😅 and 3, I just love Nintendo games!
I recently got back into playing on my wiiU, just in the last few weeks and have fallen in love it. I bought it back in 2014 and couldn’t help but feel burnt by how fast it was abandoned. But now, I can really appreciate it. Jumped back into Splatoon and am surprised at how packed the servers are. You find games instantly. It’s a lot of fun
Great video, I love your emphasis on charm. People tend to forget it’s not all about power and the latest and greatest- it’s about what people put into the design of the games. Nintendo at least has always emphasized the fun.
100% all about the charm. The cutting edge tech is only cutting edge for so long. Nintendo does a great job making their consoles still feel special far after they've sunset
@@KotBoxdo you still recommend getting Wii U in December 2023 if you are new to the platform and don’t have any games aside from eBay or GameStop? Thanks
What are you talking about? With the Switch pro controller, every single time I pick it up (after not playing for a month or so) the battery is dead. Because of the "find controller" feature.
With every Nintendo system I've ever owned since the GameCube, I always waited at least a year or two before getting into it, so I'm thankful that I just barely got my Wii U while still like Miiverse, the Smash Ballot and the eShop were still big crazes! Mine actually came with Mario Kart 8, and it blew me away with how amazing it looks! I also think Breath of the Wild belongs on the Wii U, and actually prefer it over Tears of the Kingdom's controls. So glad you're able to keep it going!
it just makes me sad that they designed BOTW w the wii u gamepad/dual screens in mind, all that tedious inventory management and weapon switching that got clunky and dragged down the experience was originally supposed to work fluidly on the wii u gamepad. They destroyed their artistic vision when the decision was made to release it on Switch at the same time as wii u, since the switch has no dual screen capability. They gutted their game, and then covered up the evidence. You can just feel it in the clunky UI and trying to navigate the weapons w the d pad. That is the worst part about BOTW, and it was not going to be bad at all. They destroyed the Wii u version so early switch adopters wouldn't be upset at their inferior version. It's a crying shame that they removed the functionality the game was designed with, and turned the wii u into a version of the game that just runs worse. You can totally tell how much better it would have been with the dual screens in mind. You can totally see the problems created by making it a switch launch title. I will not forgive Nintendo for that, and I have no love for the company I used to just adore. Nintendo has no charm anymore, they wring their customers out for their money, and that's it. They do not seek to provide a friendly user experience anymore, just money. It's evidenced by how many straight ports they made and sold for 60 bucks and how they make inferior versions of new games for 70. Mortal Kombat 1 looks atrocious, and TOTK runs like straight ASS. WTF is wrong w the modern consumer? I swear social media ruined everything, people have no sense anymore, they just chase after the shiny new thing no matter what. It's quite sad. RIP Iwata-San. He would have never let Nintendo become the monsters they are today.
While I admit such a functionality would have been cool, especially since I've seen how well it works with the Twilight Princess and Wind Waker remakes, the convenience of being able to play Breath of the Wild entirely on the GamePad was pretty great. I used to live in a household where it was hard to get privacy, so being able to just pull out my GamePad, plug in my headphones and not have to worry about what anyone thought was kind of mind-blowing.
Fun fact, Nintendo Land is a pack in title with the black Wii U That version was a more expensive version as it comes with more storage, and extra little goodies like a kick stand for the gamepad, a charging stand for the gamepad, a stand for the Wii U, and a physical copy of Nintendo Land. It's the version I got back in 2013-14 and boy howdy I had fun! And not to mention the Minecraft Comunity on that thing! Even after the shut down me and The Bois still hang out on Discord to this day! 💙
Great video, I hadn't realised the modding scene had come such a long way on the console, it used to be a pain to get anything up and running on it a few years a go when I modded mine, having said that though I was a Wii U owner from day one and had everything so didn't really need to mod it to play anything, the sad thing is the library is too small to really justify going back to regularly but with Nintendo charging full retail for ports and the prices never going down, I think it makes sense to pick one up still to own these games, you still save a lot of money and you get a nice hdmi port for your Wii games, also playing gamecube games with a pro controller or even on the gamepad itself makes it such a worthy upgrade over the original Wii.
The modding scene has gotten so good now! So worth it these days. I feel you with the prices of games. I remember being able to grab old GameCube games for nothing back in the day, which is hard to think about now considering they're all SO expensive now!
We actually bought a Wii u last year, our first. It's been a great experience. We ended up jailbreaking with homebrew and hooking up a 4tb HDD. Such a fun console
The Wii U will always be one of my favorites if not my favorite console. It was the first home console I ever owned as I got it for Christmas 2014 when I was just 7. It came bundled with 3D World (The first Nintendo game I ever played) and Nintendo Land. I got many more great games for it afterwards despite it breaking down 2 times. It is the ultimate console not just for playing with friends and family but also for playing alone. It has so much charm and passion put into it not to mention the amazing lineup of classic games that many of which are still popular today on Switch. Without the Wii U we wouldn’t have Nintendo in it’s current form at all. It was the grand finale to pre-Switch Nintendo (Assuming every Nintendo console for now on will be a Switch hybrid) and Iwata’s legacy (R. I. P. 🕊️). Now I’d say it still may be my favorite even with the Switch and PS5, because much of what makes the Switch so great is directly derived from the Wii U.
As a long time wii u owner, it felt WEIRD to see games that people where kind of down on when they where a wii u release, get heaps of praise when they get ported on the switch. Some games added a lot like Mario kart including all the dlc and a new battle mode. Others where pretty bare bones but got an out pouring of love. Oh yeah, they often got a more expensive release on the switch
makes sense to me, people's opinions are a numbers game. Lots of gamers don't form opinions of their own, they just view the world through a reddit-esque lens of "will people agree with what I say?" It's a big asspatting party. The console sold like hotcakes, so any critique is drowned out by simpery for a company that only views people for their money and employs tricks to maximize the amount they can extract from them. The old Nintendo is dead. RIP Iwata-San. He would never have let Nintendo become the monsters they are today.
To this day the Wii U is still a cool experience to me i just love the gamepad in curtain games like WindWaker for the map and inventory or for Mario Maker making it easy to make maps. Not only that the Modded Wii U makes it so much better by having the ability to play Gamecube games on it even with just the gamepad makes the console great
Hey! Just wanted to say that seeing a small channel make such high quality content with the same gear that I've got (XLR Rode Podmic) is a huge motivator to try and pursue making IRL greenscreen commentary content! Awesome upload and I can't wait to see more from you
I’m only about halfway through your video and this is great for an introduction to your channel. I feel like I need to mention that not just any USB will work for the Wii U storage as a matter of fact, if you wanted to play a game, downloaded like Xenoblade Chronicles X then you would actually need, much more than just a typical USB. It can get pricey real fast.
22:35 Just because you keep showing the Gamepad footage without mentioning it, the Wii U version of BotW DOES NOT use the gamepad that way. They scrapped that feature with some excuses about it being "distracting" but I have zero doubts about the truth being they just didn't want people to look at the Switch version and say "well yeah, but the Wii U version plays just as a well and has [x] feature". So they went with platform parity instead.
He also talked about games being able to be played coop with one player using the tv and the other the gamepad but he used footage of Mario Kart 8 when that game will show a split screen on the TV and the Gamepad of no matter what. It was actually very disappointing back in the day....
love the video! The Wii U was the only Nintendo console I had and I loved it to death. I just started to play it again and this video really got me happy that people still love the Wii U
I never owned a Wii U when it was, you know, supported. But in 2020, I got bored and wanted to mod a new console. I was shocked to find that the Wii U is actually a really cool system. It’s boot up time is horrible but overall, it’s a pretty dope system. Nintendo failed at marketing it though.
Great video i remember buying my wii u my first game was donkey kong country tropical freeze the wii u is so underrated probably the most underrated console of all time
I so lucked out with getting Twilight Princess HD. I slept on it when it first released, and just recently, maybe half a year ago, really wanted to get it. I got it on an ebay listing for somewhat below 40 bucks, I think. The prices for used copies were already high and I had to wait a while for a good offer. But the best part: I paid for just the standard game. And suddenly, one day before it's supposed to arrive, I get a mail from the mom of the kid that sold the game, and she's like "Hello, I see that my son sold you this game. He forgot to include the figure that came with it. So I also put it in the package. It should arrive tomorrow". And just like that, I got the game in great condition, PLUS the Wolf Link amiibo which by itself goes for at least 40 bucks on ebay now, for not even the full price of just the game. What a chad mom, lol
Sweet Moses this video blew up for you! 🎉 It’s great, I absolutely love the Wii U, its little library and this was a fun reminder to go put some time on it. Thanks for the fun!
Funnily enough was playing twilight princess HD two days ago, all though the WiiU wasn’t my first homeconsole (that being the Wii) it was the one I spend the most time on, I won it as a kid and had a blast with 3D world, New SOUP U, and Splatoon, I had not touched it much for a few years and have been modding and playing it more over the last 2 years ❤
I loved my Wii U back in the day. Arkham City was phenomenal and I felt that the gamepad integration really enhanced it. Although most of my favourite games for it have now been ported to Switch, getting to experience them as they were originally intended (and way before everyone who got the ports) felt special in its own way. Recently I’ve been trying to finish all the Wii U games that I have in my backlog before I pack it away. I finished Paper Mario Color Splash, which was exquisite and super underrated, along with a few others. Currently playing through Watch Dogs at long last and really enjoying that too, then it’ll just be a few little eshop games and I’ll finally be done 😌
@@KotBox So long as you take it for what it is and don’t expect an RPG, it’s honestly fantastic. Use a guide for the bosses, otherwise the “thing” cards will frustrate you, is my best advice. People say that battles feel clunky and I do get that, but I found the strategy side of them super enjoyable. I hope you enjoy it 😃
The Wii U was my childhood console, and I genuinely would not be able to count the amount of hours I spent playing BotW and Smash 4 on the gamepad while my brothers watched shows on our TV.
Hi Kotbox! What an amazing video, loved it! I always loved the WiiU! Never understood why it got so much hate. Could you provide us with the guide u used for missing the wiiu? Would love to do that to mine aswell 😃
A hill I’ll die on is that the Wii U game pad is comfortable af and legit one of the best feeling controllers. Even if you ignore its main gimmick, it’s just really good to hold in your hands.
Those who don't have a wii u for the homebrew scene are truly missing out. Playing DS using the game pad as the bottom of the DS alone is worth it. Especially for pokemon games. But nevertheless many wii u systems are failing and becoming bricked I have already had to buy another one this year. Let's keep these alive!!! Happy gaming.
@Ur2ez4me81 life's short. It's not even considered a waste of money when you get hours of entertainment and value. And not to mention you can get them for $100!!!
lots of the bricked consoles are due to software issues believed to be associated with super smash bros save games on the wii u. There is a tool out there called Udpih that will allow you to enter a recovery menu and reformat a console bricked by software. All you need is an SD card, an old phone cord (USB micro b), and a raspberry pi pico. This can be used to pair japanese gamepads to american consoles, can be used to factory reset, it can be used to uncover the parental lock pin if you are locked out, lots of great features to save wii u. I do believe most of the bricking is caused by software after going unused for long periods of time, less are caused by the fuses that short. Odds are, if it went away working, it can be saved. The software bricking being linked to the save games of one of the most popular games on the console is unfortunate, and makes the problem seem widespread and much worse than it is. 10 bucks and you can save most wii us from the brick.
I thought I read 153k subscribers and was like, yeah that seems about right (based on the high quality of this video), so keep up the good work and I hope more people discover you!
Such an underrated and underappreciated console at the time of its release and throughout its lifespan. Wii Us are commanding high prices now because collectors are finally realizing the first party games on this thing are actually top notch. I have two Wii Us. The first I bought brand-new from Best Buy just to play MK8, and play I did. Logged hundreds if not thousands of hours playing online against players from all over the world. I also bought almost all of the other first party Nintendo titles that ever came out for it and played them extensively. The last one I finally added to my collection is Paper Mario Color Splash -- still a $50 game USED, and that's actually a good price. Most of them are listed above $60. The second console I bought used for my kids off a guy who didn't want it anymore. It came with 3 controllers and dozens of games. I paid him $90 years ago. In retrospect, it was a steal given how much they're going for these days. I frequently see them listed on eBay and OfferUp for $120+ on the low end up to well over $200 CIB sets. If you can find one at a decent price, get it. They're only going to become harder to find and continue to get more expensive as the stock dwindles. My only worry is replacement batteries for the gamepad. Mine are starting to last only a couple hours before I need to recharge them.
10:58 This was probably already mentioned, but the Wii actually had a analog trigger option! They were a feature for the wii classic controller, but for some reason Analog Triggers were not a feature for the Wii Classic Controller Pro
a wii u with no xenoblade x in 2023? xenoblade x is the only reason i still own mine at this point & i highly suggest anyone with a wii u play it (since we might never get a port, who knows)
I was chatting with someone else about this. In the moment I was thinking purely about folders on the home screen. Once I was in the editing process I realized that I wasn't 100% correct with that part but liked it enough I decided to keep it in anyway 🤷♂️
I love the WiiU. Had good titles too, backwards compatible, had an amazing and the ammount of retro games was amazing. Got nothing bad to say about the console.
I'd actually seen a GamePad battery before, because Nintendo at one point released a new one with bigger capacity and I had to switch them out after buying one. That was such a random, Nintendo thing to do, too.
@@KotBox Yeah I remember them dropping it out of the blue, but it was well worth it, it almost tripled the battery life (which tbh was pretty poor to begin with).
I'm still trying to buy that bigger gamepad battery, but they're insanely rare. Reminds me of the component cables for the GameCube. Nintendo charged something like $35 for them back in the day, which was expensive for what they were, but today you can't find them for less than $200. In fact, I just checked PriceCharting and they're now valued at $300!! 😳
I owned a Wii U in my childhood, when my family moved to Florida I was dying to play it again for the nostalgia, specifically the Minecraft Wii U edition, I played the hell out of it as a kid, boot it up and…error. Yeah, it didn’t work, it broke, I was devastated . Even if we got it to work all the memory would be wiped so I couldn’t even play on old worlds or anything. One day I may get one, who knows. I’ll always love the Wii U.
The Wii U is a great system, and Nintendo just utterly screwed up on marketing it. It's a shame that they misread the market so badly and thought they could just rebottle the Wii lightning. On top of the games and features, the Gamepad is probably my favorite controller ever because, like you, I have very big hands so it's actually comfortable to hold and use.
I mean the last notable Nintendo controller with analog triggers was the Gamecube controller. But there was another one which was the Wii Classic Controller as it had analog triggers, but they were removed in it's later revision the Wii Classic Pro Controller! Love the video btw!
I also bought Wii U for my birthday this year. I can't describe how awesome it is. There are games I had always been dreaming to play and Wii support is also perfect. I've purchased some Wii games (Nintendo has never been legally distributed in my country, even to this day) and can finally play my childhood games on a real hardware. Wii U Gamepad is perfect for me, although it may be a little bit frustrating if you use it on PC via homebrew tools, cuz actually the mechanism behind stick is the same as for Gamecube, meaning that sticks are 8-sided instead of being more-or-less rounded.
That's because it's meant to be minimalist, which really helped with the speed of the UI and made the switch feel fast. It's the fastest Nintendo UI ever!
I've had my WiiU since 2017 and it was my main and only console for 5 years, until I got a ps4 in January of 2022. It will always have a place in my heart and a HUGE part of my childhood. When breath of the wild came out I was really excited and got it right away, favorite game tbh. So yeah, I am a WiiU supporter :D
That strange rounded edge on the Wii U discs is a detail I completely forgot about. You just reminded my of the time when I accidentally dropped my Black Ops 2 disc while trying to take it out of the case, and there was a tiny microscopic dent on the rounded edge. That tiny little dent completely disabled the disc entirely, and I wasn’t able to play the game anymore. Eventually 14 year old me decided to try and mold it back in place- as it was just soft plastic- and it actually worked! My parents never found out either lol!!
will never forget when my mum got me the premium edition of the wii u that was black. good times man, I love and cherish my WII U with all my heart. easily my favourite console of all time.
That rounded edge you’re feeling is the durabis coating, a scratch resistant layer to protect the disc. WiiU discs are basically unbranded Blu-ray Discs. If you pull out a Blu-ray Disc from the same era they feel the same with the round edges
I got the Wii u on Christmas the year it came out, I’ve had that same Wii u for years now and continue to play classic Wii u games on it and I will forever be grateful for owning it as that’s what started my journey into the world of Nintendo

One thing I'll say about the Wii U is that when you turn it on and the home screen shows up, it makes you feel like, "Yep, we're playing *fun* videogames today."
is it the reality tho? You can feel a lot when the day is long
Yeah but those games took FOREVER to drip feed out. It was just smash 4 this and that and delay after delays :/ it felt like dark times

As a person who has owned a wiiu since it’s launch, I’m very happy that it’s finally getting the love it deserves :D
Same I love my Wii U
agreed, it just suffered from poor marketing and lack of beneficial attention

RIght! I played the heck out of mine. So many quality games from 1st party, AA, 3rd Party and Indie exclusives.
Agreed. Super underated console. Leagues better than the switch. Only part that hurt it a bit was the range, but otherwise, masterpiece of a console.
So you joined just at the right time to really enjoy it 🤘
And man there is nothing more adult than giving link or the horse a funny name. It's our duty to make it funny
What does the M mean in M’Richard?
I've had that game downloaded for a while but been putting it off as I exhausted BotW, and I never got round to finishing WW, looking forward to having my first TP experience one of these days!
I named the horse "your cow", humor ensued every time someone mentioned the horse.
"Im gonna wash your cow!"

It's funny that I've owned a Classic Controller for so long yet I never knew that!
And I agree, the WiiU is the ultimate Nintendo Machine with mods!
As someone with massive hands, the gamepad is a blessing. They JoyCons are brilliant but just far too tiny for my hands
I bought a broken one and modded it, it has naked joycon permanently inside it and a slot at the bottom to slide the Switch into. It's fantastic.
@@n1nj4l1nk Cool! Would love to see pictures of that
@@KotBox honestly it just looks like a gamepad with a big slot in the bottom.
Thanks for watching it means a lot! I put a lot of effort into the quality of this one, the WiiU deserves it 🤘
Ooo enjoy PM64, it’s a true masterpiece!!
The Wii U needs more love man, great vid
I’m excited for Wii U homebrew to EXPLODE when Nintendo stops pushing hostile updates
@@KotBox yeah, same. But I'm still glad they brought it back!
I've been playing Nintendo systems since I got an NES in 1990, though lately I spend more time on my Xbox because I love achievements. lol
Nintendo/Xbox is my way of life! And yes I really want to play the first Splatoon while I still can! Never played any of them and want that to change
@@KotBox I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Thanks for the video and memories!
So it was you who bought that wii u
I also bought a Wii U in 2023, I had no idea how awesome this console was, tought it was like a normal wii, but it's much more.
Thanks

Pro Controller battery life is insane, even for the switch version
Right? If Nintendo nailed anything, it was that
What are you talking about? With the Switch pro controller, every single time I pick it up (after not playing for a month or so) the battery is dead. Because of the "find controller" feature.
@@RobinLeGamingThat sounds like a you problem lol. Literally have left my pro controller unused for like a month and a half and it’s still had battery
@@IceBlueLugia A "me problem"? How is it my fault that my unused controller's battery is drained quickly?
That claimed 80 hr battery life was pretty damn close to the actual number. It really is insane.
The quality of this video is outstanding! Hope this channel grows exponentially, lovin the vibe.
Fun fact, Nintendo Land is a pack in title with the black Wii U
That version was a more expensive version as it comes with more storage, and extra little goodies like a kick stand for the gamepad, a charging stand for the gamepad, a stand for the Wii U, and a physical copy of Nintendo Land.
It's the version I got back in 2013-14 and boy howdy I had fun!
And not to mention the Minecraft Comunity on that thing! Even after the shut down me and The Bois still hang out on Discord to this day! 💙
I’ll never get over how many small incredible Nintendo creators there are
Great video, I hadn't realised the modding scene had come such a long way on the console, it used to be a pain to get anything up and running on it a few years a go when I modded mine, having said that though I was a Wii U owner from day one and had everything so didn't really need to mod it to play anything, the sad thing is the library is too small to really justify going back to regularly but with Nintendo charging full retail for ports and the prices never going down, I think it makes sense to pick one up still to own these games, you still save a lot of money and you get a nice hdmi port for your Wii games, also playing gamecube games with a pro controller or even on the gamepad itself makes it such a worthy upgrade over the original Wii.
@peartreez true, I had some other footage I shot showing it off properly but that got ruined when I was editing so I had to get creative 😅
Yeah definitely need to pull my Wii U back out of the cupboard some time soon. Great video.

But the best part:
I paid for just the standard game.
That's a KILLER deal. Nice!
Sweet Moses this video blew up for you! 🎉 It’s great, I absolutely love the Wii U, its little library and this was a fun reminder to go put some time on it. Thanks for the fun!
I bet some people still don't realise the WiiU was actually a new console after the Wii
10:58 Actually, the Wii classic controller do have analog triggers. Weirdly, the classic controller pro doesn't.
Funnily enough was playing twilight princess HD two days ago, all though the WiiU wasn’t my first homeconsole (that being the Wii) it was the one I spend the most time on, I won it as a kid and had a blast with 3D world, New SOUP U, and Splatoon, I had not touched it much for a few years and have been modding and playing it more over the last 2 years ❤
14:54 Nintendo Land was actually a pack-in on most 32GB Models of the WiiU!
I really need to start Color Splash! I hear that for what it is, the game is really charming
Would love to do that to mine aswell 😃

ah yes the wind waker machine
A hill I’ll die on is that the Wii U game pad is comfortable af and legit one of the best feeling controllers. Even if you ignore its main gimmick, it’s just really good to hold in your hands.
Those who don't have a wii u for the homebrew scene are truly missing out. Playing DS using the game pad as the bottom of the DS alone is worth it. Especially for pokemon games. But nevertheless many wii u systems are failing and becoming bricked I have already had to buy another one this year. Let's keep these alive!!! Happy gaming.
Oh man should I buy one? Been wanting to go back to buy one but don’t want to waste the money
10:58
This was probably already mentioned, but the Wii actually had a analog trigger option!
They were a feature for the wii classic controller, but for some reason Analog Triggers were not a feature for the Wii Classic Controller Pro
Ah, so it was you.
My Wii U is still going strong after 9 years, I used to play it very often, and I still play Mario kart 8 with my dad sometimes.
Mario Kart 8 for WiiU has a lot more charm than the Switch release imo
a wii u with no xenoblade x in 2023? xenoblade x is the only reason i still own mine at this point & i highly suggest anyone with a wii u play it (since we might never get a port, who knows)

How do you not know that Switch has folders?
Didn't know they did an official one! That really is a very Nintendo thing to do
@@KotBox Yeah I remember them dropping it out of the blue, but it was well worth it, it almost tripled the battery life (which tbh was pretty poor to begin with).
8:05 yk that Nintendo switch has folders right
Underated
Love your editing, pacing and presentation dude! Great video!!!
Thank you so much! 🤘
Nice collection
I mean the last notable Nintendo controller with analog triggers was the Gamecube controller. But there was another one which was the Wii Classic Controller as it had analog triggers, but they were removed in it's later revision the Wii Classic Pro Controller! Love the video btw!
Nintendo Land literally was the pack in game of the black Wii U.
Oh! Well dang, that makes the Black WiiU a much better deal
You rock man! Love hearing your stories and your personality is the best! 🤗
Why do I see this video haha? Nevertheless, I'm into it 😂🙌🏼
I also bought Wii U for my birthday this year.
Pretty cool son
the Wii u gives me so much nostalgia. Used to always play on it with my siblings when I was younger
Are you the guy that everyone’s talking about cause they bought a Wii U in 2023
Hey I just want to say your thumbnails are exceptionally good for someone with less than 3k subs so I'm going to sub to see where this channel goes
Thanks! I love making the thumbnails, appreciate the sub :)
Once you compare the Wii, Wii U and 3DS UI and sounds to the Switch, the Switch seems so horribly soulless.
It's so true!
That's because it's meant to be minimalist, which really helped with the speed of the UI and made the switch feel fast.
It's the fastest Nintendo UI ever!
@@thetechrealist Gosh i wish you were saying the truth :') (what in the eShop fuck is it so slow....)
@@FunnyParadox If you're talking about the eShop, of course it's going to be slower if you don't have it connected to a router....
I had this since launch and got sad to see it die. Glad to see it getting love!
So... the one selling wii u in last month was you?
This guy 😂🤣 i bought one to wassup
This video is amazing! Great content, now I gotta binge your channel.
Nice video I subbed you are underrated man in 2 years your at 350k I think
Fantastic editing. Best wishes for your success!!
Thank you! 🤘
14:53 Nintendo Land was a pack-in title with the Deluxe model. Not the basic model, tho.
this video is really well made keep it up. youre definitely gonna blow up
That strange rounded edge on the Wii U discs is a detail I completely forgot about.
I've had my wiiu since launch and still play it regularly, glad people are getting into it!! Even now :D
will never forget when my mum got me the premium edition of the wii u that was black. good times man, I love and cherish my WII U with all my heart. easily my favourite console of all time.
11:10 - absolutely wild trivia: the Wii Classic Controller (the OG one without handles) had analog triggers! But I don't think anything used them.
I wonder if Nintendo originally considered letting you play Gamecube games with it 👀
I went to look at subscribers expecting to see 1M from the video quiality alone this is very impressive and criminanly underrated
Love you video. This makes me want to expand my Wii U library and get back into play all those amazing games
Do it! It's never too late to find more great games for a collection! :)
Love this video and your energy!
