Glad you are testing this out for viewers. On another note you should get all the fox body channels together and do a six month build and shootout just for fun. All factory shortblock n/a stuff. That's a solid six months of content for everyone with an awesome finale.
after my tko 600 had about 2000 miles on it, shifting is beautiful. but that was the longest 2000 miles ever. I expect the same with first gen tkx. give it a chance. put 500 miles in it before the Synchromesh.
Ive has my TKX since the summer of 2022. I dont race and admittedly im not THAT hard on it. But I can say its been great. Mine shifts smooth as butter. No notchiness AT ALL. I have a Quik Stik shifter on mine. At first it was leaking from the rear seal. I got an entire "kit" from Modern Driveline. They were OUTSTANDING to work with. Just one issue. They suggested running Amsoil ATF in it. It leaked from the rear seal when I first started driving it. I contacted TREMEC and they said DO NOT use ATF in it. So I got thier lubricant and its been fine. Anyway, its been the best trans ive ever had.
It sounds good, seems nice and smooth! I love how easily it revs up! I've been in Turbo Mustangs since the early 90's... they always have a bassy sound which is cool!! Enjoy the weekend.
Looking to purchase this transmission for my car. Thanks for making this video, and providing us with your opinion. What fluid did you put in it for the first fill? Or does the unit arrive filled with Tremec’s break in oil? I’m assuming it arrives empty. I have had issues in the past with “notchy shifts” in both an S13 240SX, as well as a 1995 Corolla. And in both cars, I switched to Redline’s MT-90, which completely cured the problem in both vehicles. Granted, both transmissions were Japanese, but I’m thinking MT-90 might be a good gear box oil for this unit as well. I appreciate any reply, as well as feedback from anyone reading this. What do y’all run in your TKX? Again, thanks for the video! 👍
I’ve been a best of 11.03 so far with my na 347 and my tkx. It doesn’t seem to mind that I no lift shift at 6,600 rpms. I’m also surprisingly pleased with the feel of the TREMEC shifter that came with it. Huge upgrade over my 3550! Forgot to add that I also launch it at 6k. It helped me find a weak torque box lol.
Thanks, thinkin' about one for my SBC MGB (500+hp @ 2350lbs), can't wait for your next video on it (gonna be hard to give up my tricked out slick shifting T-10) - liked&subbed
I am surprised it doesn't come with a good shifter. Buy an aftermarket transmission, then have a buy and after-aftermarket shifter because the aftermarket one that came with it is not good enough?
Is this a modified TKX? The trans was only designed to 600ft/lbs at the crank. I'm assuming you're making more than that with 600+HP at the tire, right? Stock TKX won't last long back there.
Thanks for the video. I'm looking forward to capturing my eventual T5 swap on video. How do you capture your in-car audio? I have a V8 car that only makes a third of your power, with a full exhaust, but I can't seem to record good audio while driving it. I was using a lapel/lav mic hooked up to my phone.
My tko600 has done me right but I hate the 2.87 1st gear. I also have 3.27 rear that doesn't help the situation any. Going to add twins to the 410w. Keeping it at 7-10 lbs I feel the trans should live. I find the tkx interesting but if the 600 comes out for a swap I'd prob have to go magnum. Thanks for the good content.
I am in the process of purchasing the Tremec TKX Manual Transmission for my Ford Mustang 1992 LX with an LS swap Engine . there are two types of TKX Transmissions available. I want to make sure I choose the right that fit the LS Engine . Additionally, I have seen that there is an LS bellhousing option as well as Clutch LS kit .Could you please advise me on which specific type I should purchase for my vehicle? Ford or GM ?
Awesome brother! I’m going To be taking my slow a$$ AOD out and going T5 that has a 3.35 First gear. Is it a pain to put a 2.95 first gear in? Or should I leave it be? I’ve got 4.10 gears as of now. Thanks 🇺🇸💪🏼
What would be nice is to see if Tremec could make a 5 speed for the Mercedes Benz W123 240d to replace the manual 4 speed transmission that is common in the North American version
What shifter were you using in your magnum? It seems pretty hard to miss a gear in my 6 speed still running my stock shifter. I have 4.30s in my car with the 2.66 first gear and 275/60/15 nittos. Shifts come up pretty fast too. Your car seems like a tire roaster on the street. What rear gear is in it ? Spool right?
Your vid made me go tkx. I did get the close ratio though on 308s in rear. I trap 136mph around 5600 rpm at end. What gear ratio do you recommend for close ratio on bias ply slicks. 1/4 mile track?
My tkx just started to whine in first gear I did the break in and changed over to synchromesh 300 miles later first gear whines but rest are fine any idea?
They actually rate it on torque, not HP. From Tremec's site - "600 lb.-ft. of torque capacity; capable of engines speeds of 8,000 RPMs with shifts at 7,500 RPMs." Also, you have to be able to hook all 600lb/ft...not usually easy even with less torque unless you're on a prepped drag strip. My coyote swap only has like 380lb/ft tq with 295's and it breaks loose waay too easy on the street.
When you went through the rail road tracks I felt that 🥹
Hahah spherical bushings and coil overs FTW!

It seems like it just needs the break in time, and maybe an after Market shifter when available. Looks promising 👌 💯
Def better 3-4
Thanks for your videos and all the information. It’s great to see real world results, looking forward to see more.

It did feel like 4th gear had a “spring to it”
My TKO600 was very stiff for a while. If the RPMs were too high I had to wait a second before it would let the shifter go into the next gear.
Car sounds nice bruh Especially when that turbo starts getting rowdy 🔥🦊👍
Yes sir !
Man that's some fast car stuff right there.
You looking good man, enjoying the videos thank you.
Appreciate that thx
Red Roberts, Inc. has THE VERY BEST shifters for the TKX.
I have a 86 foxbody with 680hp NA 363, with a tkx with 3.27 first gear and 3.73 going in it very soon. hope it wrks out well.
GL! 680 crank?
@@Neomustangs yes sir, 680hp at the crank e85 build
What compression ratio?
As usual you allways bring something good to the table ,ty and ill be watching for the next vid.

Mgw needs to get a shifter made for that thing. Best shifter ever imo.
WUT HE SAID.
Tht 3-4 was a solid shift 👍👍

Right. Good pass
I feel like this TKX would live forever behind my N/A 400hp 363.
Maybe. I broke a Tko 500 on 320 wheel. But it was a radial and shook bad

Swap that stock TKX shifter out with the Silver Sport STX shifter, it helps a ton just like what Brew2l has on his TKX
I want to keep the shakedown a little different
@@Neomustangs sweet bang it, it should take it. The 600lb is under rated, tremec can't give it a higher rating to interfere with their magnum market

Go with a 2.95 zspec if you got a 4.10. It’s the same thing as having a 3.35 first gear world class and 3.73s
@@Neomustangs awesome thanks brother!
You seem so used to the faceplate trans, that you can't shift easy any more lol. Enjoyed the video as always.
Nah shift just fine with syncro trans and thanks ! Lol
What would be nice is to see if Tremec could make a 5 speed for the Mercedes Benz W123 240d to replace the manual 4 speed transmission that is common in the North American version
Do you use traditional oil catch can setup? Or crankcase vacuum pump?
I need a transmission to my s197 looking at the tkx

Spool an I run an aftermarket shifter
Just bought a faceplated TKX from Liberty so we’ll see how it is

WPC treating the gears help or so I've heard.
Not really

@NeoMustangs So do you prefer the T56 Magnum or the TKX?
Tkx
I want to buy that same transportation I do plane on drag racing the car what gear ratio the get on that transmission? it's got 373 in back
We need 7000 rpm shifts with throttle down to the FLOOR
Lol
Im still waiting your these too lol, need to know if tkx handle coyote rpm. Tired to lockup
Hell Yeah!!!
My tkx just started to whine in first gear I did the break in and changed over to synchromesh 300 miles later first gear whines but rest are fine any idea?
Mine does too, so doesnt my T5.. ignore it , im sure its fine. 1st gear isnt a gear that breaks often.
Are you still running a cable for the clutch, or did you convert to hydraulic?
Cable
@@Neomustangs
Do you not like the hydraulic systems?
@@AndrewBaker302 just don’t use them
Neo, Built t5 or tkx for budget build that can last?
If money is right, TKX.
@@Neomustangs Got it!
It seems like ur more use to driving the t56 but
Do you recommend thx for a street /strip car
💯
Did you go with the 10 spline or 26?
26. I would never 10’ spline an aftermarket trans
what rearend gear you running
355
You have filled in your shifter excuse shirt 😅
what?
does the stock tkx600 shifter feel like a short throw?
Tkx is just tkx. No 600. Also no it’s not short. But it’s good
What first gear tkx did you get ?
327
Has that t5 throw to it lol
Spool in the back?
Yep 👍
Now to side step it on a few 600hp track launches. 🤟🏻 🚀
Yep
Hi guys. Could someone please try to explain what the term notchey means. I heard brew2l and now neo say it. Thanks everyone!
Means it’s got a notch gate to it. It’s like blocky. Not smooth

you ever see a pretty girls face who can’t do make up? (J/k)

I don’t think the TKX is a performance trans
And why is that
@@Neomustangs well I mean with 800 power ponies I just don’t know yet yet
I wouldn’t. At 800
