The Biggest Game That You Never Played (MAG)

- Every person that I talk to says that they have never heard about MAG and it's a shame, because this game was so ahead of it's time.
I apologize for the audio issues. I had problems occur while recording as well as in post.
Since this is an online only game and the servers shut down in 2014, the footage seen in this video was pulled from the E3 game demo from 2009. You can watch the full video below.

this game NEEDS to come back. Team work and leadership games such as MAG will be the ones to rule the decade.
They will run better on next green consoles too. Nice graphics on a massive map. I hope there's a company currently developing it
There is one just like this game but it’s only on pc and it’s called squad I love this game and it gave me mag flashbacks
@@zachdoesotaku8750 man I’m mad that I didn’t get it on sale. Squad will be the next game I’ll get. Now as far as this game idk how they’ll be competing against BF6
I'll play with you my username is Grif1872 on the ps3
Oh wait it doesn't work anymore :'(
10 plus years (and counting) ahead of it's time. No console shooter has achieved these numbers to this day.
I'm honestly praying for some type of resurrection. 🙏🏾🙏🏾
Something so satisfying about picking a faction and staying true to your brothers
I am proud to say I was one of the few who was a die hard MAG player.
Me too everyday God we need this game back
lvl 75 Valor Player
i was not a die hard player , but i sure enjoyed it , it was awesome

@@splinter01100 RAVEN, i still have the raven profile pic on my ps3 account
Faction loyalty ran deep..
It became all about keeping your faction as #1 on the world board
MAG was an epic game. Would totally work now we have cross platform games. This game with the sale of skins and equipment would surely keep the lights on with quality updates.
For sure man. It just wasn’t a game for its time.
It was an epic game, so far ahead of its time it was un freaking real, and if it were to get a re-release today, with cross platform I would give it another play. But, you're talking about wanting to be able to buy skins and equipment with real money? If it was a free to play re-release, then yea, cosmetic stuff would be fine, but for the love of all things holy, if its a paid re-release, don't ruin it with that bullshit, come on...
Nope playstation exclusive
Why would mag need to be cross platform when its a PlayStation exclusive.
@@annoyingasshole3324 because exclusivity in and of itself is an anti consumer practice that needs to end.
This was by far my favorite FPS to play at the time. This game was on a whole different level compared to everything else; I was so sad when the servers were shut down.
i play nar the end and wen i came back server was down
I paid for the extra content too
@RaLLyKaTz OoO who you telling. I had a alpha. First in reckon trooper. Beast healer.. I mean beast.. we went in first and if you went down I got you up, and usually the other squads would get to the destination and take it before my squad was wiped out which may take up to 15 mins which was insane.. guarded bases very well too. Jackrabbit crackshot.. it was crazy man.. that character was with the orange gorilla guys with aks
I want this game again so bad I can't stand it . It gave me a feeling no other game in 30 years ever has . It's such a disappointment there wasn't a MAG 2
Still think about this game daily. So many memories...
[~^~] The Dark Flock
Felt like I lost my girl!!
Damn I was in your clan
Samn.. played that game back in 2010 when I was 10, now I miss that game
It's been 10 years??? I still remember the first night playing it.
Hey... nice heavy armor
MAG is the most satisfying fps I've ever played
no its not if it was it would have been a hit I played this as well from alpha to finish... it was satisfying when it worked its just to bad that 4 of every 5 matches played had disconnects, framerate issues, spawn trapping. And was a huge financial loss that put zipper interactive out of business for trying it.
1 or 2 areas had a glitch where you could climb higher into hill or mountain. C.o.d., dudes literally go invisible, cut the game off cause their losing. Host signal controls the game.....Mag had their own server, no host.
Hands down, I would nearly cry for a MAG 2
@@CtheDead209-zt8tj nah bro, don't agree with you at all
@@CtheDead209-zt8tj you just sound salty and trash at the game
With modern crossplay i think it would be dope to see a mag 2 with each faction representing a console: xbox, playstation, PC (and Nintendo if their hardware could keep up but i doubt it) each would have a separate faction that way you could play with your console of choice friends no matter what, there would be incentive from all around to promote it better than the first one and it almost could be symbolic of the end of "the platform wars".
I never got to play this as i was a 360 boi but i remember reading about it in magazines as a teenager leading up to its release dripping with envy.
Honestly i think one of the major reasons nobody has attempted this kind of thing again is this shift to BR. Nobody wants coordinated effort it's all about dumb luck, selfishness and quick gratification nowadays sadly.
what is BR?
Sasha Cargoulo battle royale
Yup BR/Fortnite killed gaming
i would say keep it crossplay between consoles if it ever happens since inclusion of PC players will lead to cheaters ruining experience for everyone and more dev time
Yo, that would be the coolest fricking thing ever in FPS history
This was the best game I ever played.
100%
Yes. Without a doubt, it makes no sense they haven't at the minimum remastered it.
I miss this game so much. I remember when I got sick of MW2 bullshit I would hop on MAG. Good times.
Same here bro
Agreed!
I sunk hundreds of hours into this game back when I was 12 years old in 2010. I remember basically living off of chicken ramen noodles over the summer while playing this. Yet for whatever reason most of the gameplay I can find looks almost completely foreign to me. Like I’ve forgotten how the game looked and played. I even signed into PSN to double check that this is the right game.
My cousin was actually part of the art team, that’s how I first found out about it and why I bought it.
yo wtf this game looks way different than what i remember and i put nearly a 1000 hours into it.
You are not the only one.
@@iamjoshl I agree. This looks way different from how I remember it, but that could just be because of how long it has been since I have played it.
Wow thats great to know you could need your cousin for A new MAG
@RaLLyKaTz OoO I think he was exaggerating my guy.
I think its because he used E3 or beta footage it seems to me. I miss this game.
I loved the skill tree, the choices felt significant and contributed to team play. Also versatility of your “builds”. Havent played a game that had that level of versatility and also a reward system geared towards playing the objectives.
Yo I agree the skill tree made the choice you could make very strategic and very interesting! Best thing ever it was so in depth
You would think with the popularity of bigger map shooters like Fortnite, something like this would be popular. This had a million more times the action then these Battle Royale games.
You should check out Planetside 2, massive openworld sandbox combat!
@@Droid15243Z isn’t that game pay to win-ish. Or is every gun unlocked right away.
@@itsjordan4774 You can play or pay to unlock weapons, but you start out with the best weapons overall. Guns are merely sidegrades that tackle a niche. The only thing that noobs should avoid is trying to solo vehicle based combat until they get some upgrades. It isn't that you can p2w with vehicles since upgrades are only gained through the currency earned by playing.
That said, the biggest dividing factor is experience but veteran players will be able to adjust their kit on the fly since they likely have a loadout for every situation. A new player can dominate infantry play with sheer skill, CMDR Cyrious did a video using a blank slate account and managed a high kpm and kdr. You can use money to roll implants faster but as someone who got all of mine through play, it isn't necessary and most would advise against it since they don't make you magically better, it mostly comes down to skill and experience.
Edit: Fixed a typo.
“This had a million times more action then these battle royals games” no the hell it did not 😂
AllThatRemainsTDH ahh yes it did. I’ll play fort nite and I won’t see another player for 5 minutes straight
Loved this game.....so many memories...they need to remake this MAG 2021
the proxy chat was so good too. kids today won't ever know what it's like because of discord, but when ur forced to use in-game chat and it's proxy chat, fucking epic. sneaking behind enemy lines and hearing a platoon leader telling their team what tactics they are about to use, then telling ur team how to counter it, like ur a spy!! was so damn good
True It was so fun to troll with the proxy
SVER Uber Alles.
I think my favorite part of this game was that it actually let you spec as support without making you suck in direct combat.
But going full alpha assault combat was op if you knew how to spec that.. this game was built like no other. Not even battlefield could give you those kinda stats... dust 514 did but it was hard to adjust to the level of futurism mixed with huge empty lobbies... if dust 514 had the players it could have been better, but the warframish destiny type suits got difficult when everyone has one in a mag environment
I got this game because my parents wouldn’t let me get call of duty. So while all my friends were playing MW2 I was puttin in work in MAG. I feel the most nostalgia with this and MW3 for FPS.
I still think about how no game has topped mag. Greatest game ever. Go valor
hu dress of games have topped and surpassed m.a.g you have blinders on... or you didn't actually play it..hemce why it died literally 3 months after launch those 128v128 you never would get to play them after the first 3 months as everyone left...
@@CtheDead209-zt8tj Still lying? I played mag for a couple of years!
To be fair, Planetside 2 was bigger and better than MAG in a lot of ways. It's just hands down the best game in that genre as of date. I hope they come out with a sequel sometime soon, as it's been out for I think 7 or 8 years now, and showing its age.
@@jtothewa4858 when planetside 2 came out i thought it would be a secsesor to mag but I didn't like it.

Best multiplayer game ever!! I actually stopped playing games for almost a year after that. I hate call of duty because of it. No server glitches or lag. No cutting off mid game. Epics maps. Etc.....
umm you didnt play mag then lol it had constant server disconnects from day 1 until it closed down tons of glitches and lag maps where garbage period with spawn trapping and you definitely didn't play for a year because everyone left within 3 months there was only 300 people online from 3 months onward you a moron.
@@CtheDead209-zt8tj Amateur...Your must talking about the last days! I was playing from early. Games were always full. All modes. People just went to play C.O.D., because it was easier. This Game Needs a Comeback
@William Pilston i was done with with Cod and Battlefield after playing MAG back in 2010, i just can't get into any other online shooter since the servers went down in 2014 the game was epic, its disappointing not a single game developer has not come close to producing anything like it to date, i would have thought many games by now would have massive servers on battlefields designed like MAG
@William Pilston oh man yes the team structure was what made it so great and the battles were like being in a meat grinder damn I miss it
I played as a Commando and played every faction at least one time.
In the end my love fell for SVER, they had those great hockey masks and looked bad ass :D
No you didn't unless you plunked down cash lol or you just sucked so it didn't matter if you deleted you character...progression was slow and slow. Sver for life.
Me too..This guy making other comments is a liar. I didn't pay for anything. When i maxed out, or wanted new, i would switch clans too. Progression wasn't slow, but it wasn't immediate like c.o.d. The way a game supposed to be.
They were broken! They had the easiest defense and strongest weapons
@@Gio-pb5rm big facts I played all factions but raven was my favorite faction
Damn thats cool! There was only a few people playing as Commando. I loved the skill tree so much
Man this was my game. It was one of the few FPS where I was actually fairly good at, and had an amazing time.
Im so glad someone else had this experience with MAG. It was incredible.
MAG Was a real fever in Brasil. So many clans and all that rivalry. Magic times
hope they make another mag with new engine..that game was awesome
By far my favorite FPS to date!
The MAG intro stills get me hyped up! 10 years after haha MAG was so great. Then you would hear the music of the lobby and you we ready for some massive action
I loved this game. I played it with the PlayStation Move. The matches felt epic.
It could be really chaotic at the end of that 256 match.
Actually got this game back in the day for my birthday and I was so excited to play it. I had two friends hanging out with me and offered to let them play but they declined and said "it doesn't have very good graphics." And also said "graphics make a game." I still hear the second quote in my head to this day and facepalm everytime.
Yeah still to this day I remember some people telling me that. And I think that now people realize that good graphics doesn't mean that is a good game. Because now we see games that makes crazy graphics but the gameplay is poor and uninteresting and full of glitch
Sniping on this game is unmatched. The headshot sounds and the way players would go “ahh” when they were hit. Definitely in my top 3
The best part of this game is how well it handled 128v128. Both sides were basically funneled towards eachother. So it was easy to keep both sides somewhat more organized and focused on what the objective is.
Still to this day my favorite FPS. If you didn't play MAG, you missed out on alot.
M.A.G to this date is still one of my fav shooter ever made, i hope with emulation people will get to play this and make a private online server, just like what happened with mgs4 online
I still remember the beta for ps3
yeah its kinda weird how this game is barely talked about today, it'd be cool to see it remade or see a spiritual successor to it some day
Really appreciate seeing this game still get some love so many years later. You don't mention it but the PS3 was only low selling in the US. Globally it outsold the 360 and it's still used actively by many today.
Best FPS ever. So much fun and the levels were so cleverly designed. They felt big, but funneled you to the action with the simple objectives. It created great teamplay without the need for headsets (although headsets helped).
SVER for life. Shooting that AK was so satisfying.
Damn I played this game back in 2010 when I was 10 ... damn how time flies. Sadly they closed the online mode for that game so the game is unplayable
Yeah man it sucks. I was about 10 as well when I played it. I remember my mom taking the game away from me since I played it so damn much and I never got to play it again before the servers shut down. I wish I could’ve played more of it

Hopefully one day a game like MAG is released
It was so under appreciated.
@@thesenator8685 People were scared of this game. Too much 4 them, they rather call of duty. Smh
Just finished watching you should definitely make more videos like this btw solid video 👍
What was great about this game was proximity chat even when enemies. The whole squad, platoon, OIC communications was amazing. Hours of domination played.
Mag was my go to for years I loved that game. So when it died I started playing dust then went to PlanetSide 2 on the PS4.
same but both Dust and PS2 aren't as good as MAG
Yeah not the same
@@sashacargoulo7089 PS2 is waaaaaaaaaay better then mag
This was one of the few FPS games that actually felt like teamwork mattered more than having a high KDR. It was paced a lot like Battlefield but somehow felt more rewarding when you worked with a team and played the objective. This platform could absolutely work on this gen consoles easily and would have a loyal fan base as long as it stayed true to the formula with improved graphics.
MAG will always take me back to the good old days of my life where I could waste hours playing it but feel like I accomplished something. No other game has ever been able to recreate that sensation for me and it makes me lose hope that developers are looking for long lasting games that will develop a lasting fan base.
I was a sniper, this was one of the first games I got over 1000 kills.
You could never snipe like that in Call of Duty. I use to be so far away, all i saw was movement.
you've had to wait until the enemy runs into your crosshairs. I've made 100+ : 0 k/d in every round i've played
It was great sniping from the church tower. I used to stay up there entire matches trying to support the team on the ground
@@WhiteShadow230 you can easy spawn trap from over there... and watch A and B at the same time
I miss this game! I have played TONS of multiplayer FPS but never will be close to this great game :(
Such an underated game. Miss this game
I was a company leader! 13hrs a day. The power and brains it took to make the epic wins! The respect from players! Socom was the foundation of PlayStation online FPS! Zipper was on fire with socom! ESP sc2. I brag about mag a lot! Great video!
props! thanks!
It wasn’t just the player count that was so good about mag but the way they designed the maps and team structures that enabled all players to work together to achieve mutual objectives
I was obsessed with MAG, god I loved this game and it was so ahead of its times. Even had proximity chat
I loved this game so much. There were really cool balancing mechanics between the different factions. SVER had the worst weapons of the 3, but their base layout when defending was very hard for the attacking factions to break. Raven (my faction) had the best guns and attachments, but their base set up for defending was very easy to break. Valor fell in the middle of both. They balanced this aspect really well and it didn’t feel impossible or unfair for any of the factions. Me and all my friends that played felt a real sense of pride in our faction. The community that came along with MAG was the best community I’ve seen so far. Definitely my favorite gaming experience, by far.
Best FPS game ever released. No game could convey that feeling of team pushing as could MAG. Goose bumps thinking about it.
Man this brings back memories, such a great underrated game. When you had decent company leaders the games were simply amazing.
I played the shiznits outta this game , it was so awesome , great video buds , love to see the old gameplay brings back some great memories 🙂👍
This video just brought so many repressed childhood memories back. Thankyou
I hate FPS multiplayer. But, MAG was different, I actually enjoyed it. If there was a single player version of MAG, I would sink 12 hours a day on it. Who care about focusing on my work.
Yo the Intro of the game was so great I would also watch it many times!! I really loved the music of every factions but my favorite were the Raven. Also I really liked the fact that the colors of the maps would reflect the color of the camouflage of the different factions exemple the Raven were better camouflaged in their own maps!
This is some hard nostalgia right here
RIP MAG, you are nothing but fond memories...
We need to figure out how to get this game remastered!! Lets figure it out, this is the best game I ever played. I miss it so much!!
Someone has done it, it's in the early stages, check this video: ruclips.net/video/nNkVfNv4Kgc/видео.html
This game was amazing. We should petition Sony to work on bringing either MAG, or something similar, back...
Mag was so awesome. Just bring it back man i dont even care for remastered shit or stuff like that i just want my mag back. The fact that you could only be part of 1 faction made it feel like you're actually part of a huge team.
I remember being a clan where there was always at least a dozen guys on and we could roll at least a whole squad deep. I love the factions and the rivalry it bred. I will always be a Son of S.V.E.R!
I loved this game! still think about it a lot
The only gripe I had about this game, is that you could literally destroy someone with a full magazine and they would just look at you and drop you dead. Other than that, one of the best games i've played in a long time.
Just came across this video. I too was an original player of MAG as a child. This game was amazing I sunk hundreds of hours into it. Lol I also remember those 250+ player servers which was pure chaos.
Man this game was so fun, this and Killzone 2 where my favorite FPS back in the day
Dude, I was like 22 when I got MAG. I was a die hard player, every spare second I could, I would devote to it. Raven btw
I really believe PlayStation should consider reviving this franchise. After the incredibly disappointing BF 2042, there is a market for a big battle first person shooter that plays and runs well.
I've never enjoyed a game as much as I enjoyed MAG. Wish it came back...it was fantastic.
This is still my favorite game ever. I've played almost everything
I miss this game so much. This was a blast and so much fun to play. I was hooked.
After MAG was done I never played another FPS, because I climbed my highest peak with that game, no other in my book will match that game.
Exactly
Still to this day the best game I have ever played!! Raven forever!! No game can go as in depth as MAG about the way you wanted to play the game and help your team to win
Everywhere I go where people talk about classic playstation games, SOCOM is brought up. They were absolutely extremely popular.
One of the best games that I didn’t truly enjoy as much as I should’ve when I had it
Still to this very day the best FPS I have ever played....
[3C] ClosedCasketCrew
Splendid and tremendous.
Damn, it makes me wanna cry just thinking about going back in a map and seeing how lonely it'll look after all these years. I still sometimes think about the fun battles I experienced. Only game I play now with a lot of players is Holdfast Nations at War.
I miss this game so much. I played it a lot. Super underrated.
They need to bring this game back.
Its the perfect time to re-release it on a next gen
Alright I was bought in to the video until you stated that Zipper was an indy developer that was bought out by Sony and had only developed SOCOM and SOCOM must not have been popular because you hardly ever hear anything about them. I'm not sure if you've looked at sales figures but they would state otherwise. Back in the PS2 era it was either SOCOM on PS2 or Halo on Xbox and COD had nothing on them. SOCOM was the first game to introduce voice chat on console. Playstation also ran an online pole a few years ago asking fans which game should be remastered and SOCOM won by a landslide. The downfall of Zipper was SOCOM I would agree with that but it was because Playstation was forcing SOCOM to be Call of Duty which is not what the fans wanted thus leading to poor sales figures. I also hate to say it but most of the Valor players were ex SOCOM loyalists because it was the closest feel to SOCOM in MAG.
I used to play this game all the time back in the day. I was in my mood thirties back then and loved this game. Domination was insane. Ask the game modes were great. It took teamwork to win.
Really one of the better games I played in my childhood. Sad that they stopped the servers :(
Such an amazing game. They need to bring it back
You should play Planetside 2. I played MAG way back in the day, and I got the same feelings playing it as I did MAG, but the emphasis on vehicles is a lot more on that game, and it makes you feel smaller as a foot soldier. I believe it still holds the record for the largest battle of around 1000 players or so. The fights can still get massive on there, the maps too, bigger than MAG by far, it's just on PC, though it's free.
I miss mag so freakin much. there are a variety of reasons why CoD and Battlefield don't take on such an amount of players.
Came back looking for mag gameplay because the new battlefield has some things that reminded me of this
Nice video dude, subbed. Never did play this game even though I always meant to!
This game was awesome. I hope someone is able to figure out private servers at some point, it’s a shame that this game has effectively disappeared into the ether.
I was on this game ! I tell people to this day about it and how fun it was. Especially when lobby size comes up I pull up videos of this game
Miss this game! Such a trip down nostalgia lane!
I forgot I ever played this game and it suddenly came to my head. Couldn't remember the name of it, but I started looking and found it lol.
They did great things with this game. This is 1 of the first games i remember really benefiting from updates. It had several good ones and I believe 1 huge update they called MAG 2.0
My favorite fps period. It hurts that I can never play it again. 59B Devil dogs still run that clan tag to this day.
Best FPS, MMOFPS I ever played without a doubt. Nothing has even come close to since. And one of the main reasons is teamwork! It was actualy a thing here. No team was getting far without resurecting teammates, healing them, helping flank, and playingthe objective!
I don't know why this game popped up in my head. The problem is I never really played it because I remember the servers never worked.
The kids today have no idea what a good game is. The developers have no idea. MAG was and is our bar for a game. The people I fought, the clans I was a part of UNT, And TGC( who I still a decade later am a member of). The clans we went to war with like SVER True Bloods. Memories my brothers and I still to this day talk about
I led the 333 SVER clan that took all the contracts from the other factions. I'm haunted by the fact that I probably ruined this game. It was so good. And pistols were overpowered when pistol related perks were added. I'd always be jealous of the raven faction pistols though. This game was a huge part of my childhood, and it let me learn a lot about administration. I miss this game
