Hi Hugo, I have been thinking about this point of view from some years actually. When we have the camera with us and use it, are we really full participants or just observers of life? The presence of a camera also changes the dynamics of the moment, and it may pollute it in some sense... So, I came to the same conclusion, that sometimes it is better to engage fully with life and leave the camera at home or in the bag.
Hi Ad 2, I see you have the direct experience. Is something we learn with time. And you are wright, a camera can also pollute a beat a situation, or it can be an object we use to hide behind. Is good to know, ad act in consequence ;-) Take care and all the best!!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and feelings..yes I agree that we need to stop & smell the roses as they say...we all sometimes get afraid of missing the moment to take photos... cheers 😀
I have always felt like an outsider looking in, a window view to people I encounter see or experience, although I understand that you should enjoy moments I also never really feel present I’m always a drift and when I see something that I just do not want to lose sight of I have my camera and I have that moment that I can revisit and remind myself what made me want to capture it
I fully agree with your thoughts ! Hugo, you are my Philosopher of the Day ! I often ask myself the same question : Can I still look at something and enjoy the view without first thinking of "How can I make a photo here ?" There is also often the question of which camera do I take with me when going somewere. "Always wear a Camera" is a nice expression, but I believe that from time to time it is better to leaf home without a camera ! Greatings, Take Care, Roger ;-)
Hi Roger! Thanks for you comment :-) Im glad you agreed, and I think is something we learn with the time. Sometimes is better to miss the camera that feel it as a burden. Greetings, take care!!
Agreed it is good to simply enjoy the moment. I do however think that an unobtrusive M camera with one lens is not too much, not too distracting. Some days I take my camera with me but don’t take a shot.
Hi Markus, congratulations, Take the camera with you and don't take a photo is like go to a shopping mall and don't but anything. When happened to me, I feel like a winer!
Crucial if you come back, starting by a first immersive encounter, such as the first dive of the day on the same spot. No camera, which awakens the senses, to better come back with, full of ideas. Sometimes, to rely on a perfect light prime, such as the Fuji 33mm f1.4, true gemstone, and my feet, is a real creative process: to compose, or not; to shoot, or not.
Hello Hugo, It’s so good to see You again! I think You have amazing talent in storytelling. I admire how You put informations in order, how You use your voice, how you draw conclusions! The atmosphere You are able to create, and relation to the viewers is unique :) I could listen to You for hours! And to refer to the video theme - maybe I’m not mature enough but I would like to have my camera always with me and be able to take a photo. I want to save memories/images and be able to recall them later. And paradoxically, sometimes I think that camera lets me stay in the moment, enjoy situation more than if I wouldn’t have it with me. With the camera I can dive deeper into situation. All the best!
Thank you Maciej, your comment is a very nice present. You are also wright, a camera help to be more present sometimes, more awake to the surrounding. Is also a good companion, and I understand your point, because is also mine. But in my experience (I always try to take the camera with me) it feels good to sometimes miss the camera, go with empty hands, stop searching for the great picture. Is like an exercise. Today without camera! And is not easy, but after many years taking it everywhere, I apréciate the impossibility of take a photo. And the pleasure of the reencounter.
I was thinking the exact same thing, I’m going on my hols Monday and leaving the camera at home. I’m sure my phone will be just fine where I’m going ! a certain British spanish resort on the coast 😁
Craig, you are brave, on hols without a camera 💪. I remember going on holidays to a Croatian Island only with the phone. (not completely true, the m8 was in the bag) And enjoyed the experience.
Yes, leave the camera at home, but if we have a cell phone we have a camera these days. So were are always with a camera. But I do understand "to imbibe life." But to learn photography I must take photos. Repititio, repititio, repititio. You heard that in school. It is a delicate balance. Restraint may be the operative word here. Anyway, as always, Hugo, esta bueno.
Hi Zoltan. Restraint, yes, is the keyword. And after millions of photos we can allow ourselves to leave the camera at home, at least once in a while. Gracias!
Don’t leave the camera at home , you can be present with a camera, don’t miss those moments, lost a lot of opportunities leaving camera at home , we are always composing scenes that’s the photographers curse.
Cheers from Atlanta! I understand your advice. You are correct in controlling your photography desires. No one should always be taking pictures with their camera if you have a lovely lady in your company. But, I have a question for you - did you get in trouble with your wife? Haha! Take care, my friend! Sean
Dear Sean, my wife looks at me wit a hungry face every time I point her with the camera. And after some shots, with some luck, I can get a smile, o a face that looks like a smile ;-)
True, one has to know when to not take pictures because also you are being a pain in the ass to your family but if I am somewhere where I should have taken the camera I get stomach ache. I think it is more of a decision of going to take pictures with a purpose. Just now I was trying to decide where in Barcelona should I go to take them. Will the place change if I don't take them... No. Will I change if I don't?. Maybe. You never know when you will take a ravishing picture and also I try to learn each time I get out, from taking pictures to being invisible or sadly to not get robbed. Saludos.
@@zettepix2009 I agree with all you say. We bought are in the same journey. Is a great challenge, a nice one. Be awake, and don’t let ourselves go mad taking pictures. Pay attention to our own mental movements… I wish you all the best. Saludos, amigo!

Very nicely said, thanks Hungry Heart. (I saw some samples from the Fuji 33 1.4. Amazing)

Making an argument out of nothing. If taking pictures takes one out of the moment then one is doing it wrong.
Thanks for the comment. Very often I do it wrong.
@@myleicam8546 so do I :) knowing is different from doing :)
