To me the Allman Brothers Band was the non mainstream music of the '70's and the Beatles, Stones, were mainstream music. They had a faithful following and we loved them, still do.

Saw the ABB at The Warehouse when they were the backup band for Albert King in the 70's. We went to see Mr. King but The Brothers stole the show (no disrespect to Mr. King). I was a musician back then and our band immediately gravitated the the Southern Rock style of the ABB. I even dedicated a guitar to playing slide alone. We went back to see them every chance we got. Such great times and memories. God Bless them and I thank them for their hard work and creativity.

Back in the day (1960's), the Allmans were what we garage bands in the Daytona Beach area aspired to be. I recall them playing at the Martinique teen club, and, prior to that, these two red-headed kids, with a drummer and bass player, performed at our ninth grade dance. As a drummer in a mixed-race band in 1968, I had the privilege of sitting in with Duane at that very same Martinique club during one of our practice sessions. The entire music world reeled at the news of his passing. No telling what heights he would have achieved had he lived beyond his 24 years.

Two other things of note on that. I'd imagine that the batteries in the tape unit might have been going dead. I noticed that the tone was up almost half a step high (D#), but it was still a killer version. Also - I'm not sure I've ever heard a version where Jaimoe was out in the front of the drumming mix so much. Really gives you a great idea of what all he was doing around Butch.

New Years at The Warehouse New Orleans
I always love telling this ABB story !
It was Christmas 1970. I was talking on the phone with one of the Roosman girls Joanie Or Donna? They gave me Gregg's phone number. To explain to you younger people this was BEFORE cell phones,,,way back then ...he he. I also want to explain Gregg and I were already good friends having met on Gaslight Square in about 1967 or 68?
Well I rang up his number and Gregg said hey man we are playing the Warehouse in New Orleans New Years....,and as both of the brothers always did, he said "Come On Down". Well I told him I just might do that and he said he would put me on the guest list.
I was starting to get excited on the possibly of seeing everyone. I called up a drummer friend of mine Lanny Boles and said hey man you want to go to New Orleans and see The Allman Brothers. I had about $50 for gas and I think we had to leave the next day to get there in time.
So we drove all day and then it turned to night. There was a stretch across Louisiana that we were low on gas. We would pull into a place and the gas pumps didn't work. Finally we found one that did, Then we were heading down Canal Street to go to the Warehouse.
Lanny parked the car and I went up to the window and asked if my name was on the guest list and they looked and said no. So we paid for a ticket.....and I swear this is the truth we walked in, after driving all that way and almost running out of gas!!! ...To the announcement of...AND NOW THE ALLMAN BROS BAND. I know it was just like in the movies.....Well as we tried to move closer to the stage it was really hard to get though. We finally got up to the left side and I looked up to see some guys standing on side of the stage and one of them was Michael Callahan. He told the security guy to let that guy up and pointed to me. I motioned that Lanny was with me so we both were up on the side of the stage. For those who have never been to the Warehouse on that side of the stage there is a wide ramp leading up to a dressing room. So the band exits right off the sage up the ramp to the dressing room which we were now sitting in watching the show.
Then the band took a break. They came off stage and I remember Jaimoe had a practice pad he was banging on. I guess he didn't want to cool down. Berry said something about he wasn't sure about how to play Aulde Ange Sine. Duane instantly grabbed his guitar and said There's nothing to it...it's just this...this and this. Well I am sure they said hi to us ect.
Then they took the stage MIDNIGHT....and I tell you May Old Acquaintance be forgot.....played by the Original Six Was a ONCE IN A LIFETIME deal for me BEST NEW YEARS EVER 1970. After that we went back to where they were staying which was a motel on Airline Hiway. It was an older Motel and had a bar attached. There was no one in the bar. B.O. might have been up at the bar. We got a drink and Gregg walked over to this upright piano that was sitting there. He sat down and said “ I want to play you this new song that I have written.” The song as he banged it out on that old out of tune piano was Midnight Rider.

Elizabeth Reed is beyond belief, the best of any I have heard by far!!! Just so everyone is clear Dickey solos 1st and Duane 2nd on it. Their guitar tone, phrasing are quite different.

The Warehouse was a special place and the musicians flocked to it.

I saw Elvis Costello play in the Warehouse in '81 just before it closed. It was quite a venue and I remember leaning against one of those giant wooden beams. The ABB were incredibly tight, note how they played almost continuously with very few breaks between songs. I saw them in '71 just before Duane was killed and he was just amazing. What a shame that only Dickey Betts and Jaimoe are left.

I've had this CD for many years, yet never have seen this photo/documentary of the show....after 40 yrs. of following the 'Brothers' I am just humbled and blown away seeing the pics of the Greatest Rock Band to ever put a live show on. After all these years,
I am no less moved than I was the very first time I heard them in 1970. I can't wait to get back to the 'Big House' this spring and pay them the honor they deserve....Freakin' Awesome Brothers !!!

Dan L - the photos are from the March 20 show. I’ve had copies of both shows since 1974. These shows at The Warehouse were awesome.
There are two show circulating that say they are from New Years Eve. I’ve never been able to figure that out. Both have references to New Years.

If this is an audience recorded 'bootleg' the quality is pretty good. Lots of tape re-recordign hiss, but a you can hear all the instruments, as well as two or three audience members up close. Regardless, the playing is extremely exciting! There are some 'dropouts' skips, which makes me think it might have been on vinyl.

Same month and year , December 1970 , the Doors did their last live concerts in New Orleans and Dallas. Ironic , ABB was in their hey day from 1969 to 1972 and the Doors, from 1967 to 1971. Two of the best U.S.A. bands ever to exemplify what was going on in our American scene at the time.

In 67 Before Doors hit the big time they played at the National Guard Armory in Annapolis Md. They also booked another show in northern Virginia the same night. Morrison got so drunk at the Annapolis show his band mates left him behind to catch his own ride. I was one lucky duck to grow up during those times

Mark/Greenman, I got this copy from a taper 'on line' and don't remember any of the details. I encourage you to get this....it just melts my heart at this age, thinking I've heard, (and seen) the most passionate musicians through ABB, that ever lived. I know you can find this...and hope you do. I've indoctrinated my sons to the faith of ABB, and at 35, 36. both military, they still 'bear the cross' of these awesome musicians. All the best, and Good Luck. The road goes on forever !

Duane Allman, Greg Allman and Dickie Betts, like putting Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix and Joe Cocker in the same group--a couple of Les Paul's vs. a couple of Fender stratocasters. Whipping Post and One Way Out on Fillmore East Live, southern rock doesn't get any better.

🎉Does anybody know we're I can buy a copy of this. The name of this location and what it was reminds me of the sixties and early seventies. If there was a big hall or building there were really good bands. There are bands that play there music. I always will stick around and listen. Even though you can hear what they are missing in there music it makes me feel better to hear it. There will never be ànybody that can top them. I hope there kids succeed in carrying out the legacy. Amen.
