I’ve been pin curling my hair since 2009 ( that’s how the Philly girls do) to take the tightness out the curls I’ll wrap for 20 minutes to give it a flowy look. I don’t silk press often anymore but when I do, this is my go to method.
I stopped getting a silk press because I just hated how my hair looked after the day I get it done because of wrapping. I've been thinking so hard about getting a silk press and wearing my hair again because I'm so insecure about my natural hair. You just gave me hope after watch this video, definitely going to try the pin curl technique.

Aww, I'm sorry that you are insecure about wearing your natural hair. I like wearing my natural hair but it's fine and fragile so I have to keep it protected more than I wear it out. I decided to go natural because I hated sitting in the salon for hours and the expense of it and I wanted to travel with minimal products and still be able to style my hair. My relaxed hair was always limp, flat lifeless, overprocessed and constantly breaking off. I'd have to travel with so many products to style and care for it. So I stopped relaxing and did my hair at home. Now I only go to the salon 4-5 times a year and the trichologists 2 times a year. I suppose it takes time to learn and get used to (me: 10 years) but with social media now you can learn so much about being confident as naturally as God made you or if you want with enhancements. So do what makes you happy and suits your lifestyle.
Thanks this makes so much sense because I suck at wrapping. I was about to call it quits and put my wig back on. You just saved my silk press girl !

Not me showing up for this same reason 🤣 I put my hair in a pony to go out today bc the wrap was flat and I just got a silk press yday. I shoulda known bc my stylist pin curls it and sits me under the dryer for 5 mins instead of curling with irons 😭

I personally sleep with mine in a bun 🤷🏽♀️ i wrap it around itself so it has nice volume in the morning instead of being flat to my head like a wrap does

Yes I do the same. I kinda softly finger comb my hair to the very top of my head. Do a kinda loose bun and then wrap my scarf around it not too tight. That gets me a good week out of my silk press

NOW YOU TELL ME. Haven’t straightened my hair in years. Then I wrapped my hair last night after straightening & curling. And yes it looked like crap in the AM… right before Christmas. smh I always thought it was my poor wrap technique over the years. 1 side nice and other side flat… Finally Glad to know it is not just me! Thank you. My Mom used to pin curl her hair sometimes.
The struggle when you’re trying to record but one of your kids want you 🤦🏿♀️🤣! I hate wrapping my hair also, never got the hang of it! When I do wear my hair straight I just put it in a nice high bun and that makes loose curls that fall throughout the day🙌🏿! Your hair is amazingly beautiful 😍! I personally put satin rollers in my hair. When I wrap my hair it’s just doesn’t come out the way I want it to.
Awww...what a beautiful baby. I AGREE with you 110%! I stopped wrapping my silk-pressed hair b/c for some reason it reverted out. So I section off my silk-pressed hair into 4 or more sections (I have fine hair) into ponytails and wrap scrunchies around the ponytails or I'll double twist my hair into sections and wrap scrunchies around the twists. And my hair has body! It's not as long or full as yours but my process makes my hair look thicker. Thanks for your video!

I've only ever done smaller pin curls after putting a lot of spiral curls in my hair with a curling iron. I will definitely try this new method the next time I do a silk press. 💕

My hairdresser suggest I wrap my hair with my fingers, it’s hell especially if you have length but once you get a hang of it you’ll love it.
I needed this. I’m not a fan of wrapping either. Something tells me my hair will actually grow if I pin curl instead of wrapping.

I have 4c but my hair is ultra-fine and high porosity and I live somewhere with high humidity. I've been trialing some new treatment to see if they would helf and so far so good. Treatments: Olaplex, lamellar water, K18 and other bond builders.

I got a silk press that the beginning of the year and eventually I got tired of wrapping it and it was getting sore due to it . So my satin scrunchie became my best friend and somewhat kept my press for two months.

But like My head would hurt right by my edges and I lost some hair there too so I stop wrapping my hair and pin it with Bobby pins to keep it from getting flat and oily. I just came across your video 😊 I am natural now 4 years but I was a relaxer girl since I was 12. I was feeling very frustrated because yes I agree wrapping was it when I had a relaxer. Now being natural yes ridiculous wave in the front hair shifts under my scarf no matter how tight it’s tied 😡. I am researching flexi rods and now I see you mention pin curls. Everyone is not mixed and has good hair. Some people sweat in their sleep, so we have to wrap it to control our roots.
So true! Lots of the population is in fact not mixed. And lots of mixed and non mixed ppl sweat in their sleep. Everyone has good hair though. The hair that grows out of your head is good. Everyone also takes their own situation into consideration when watching these videos and finding a routine for their own hair type.
Uuumm it has nothing to do with being mixed... I'm 100 percent black,type 4 hair and the combing over literally pulls and hurts my edges. And my wrap looks like crap and it's too straight
When I silk press my I hair I don't wrap it either. I put it in a low bun and when I take it down the next day it has a body wave to it, that I love❣

I’m 58 years old. I’ll try the pin curls. My daughter, (who’s probably older than you, lol), has been trying to get me to go natural. I’m not sure about that, but your hair is perfection, and it’s the kind of style I prefer. Of course my hair is not as thick as yours anymore because my hair has been thinning with age. I’ll see how the pin curls work.

Pin curling your hair is the thing to do. I have a silk press with natural hair, and pin curling is how I maintain my silk press for over 3 weeks. Wrapping makes my hair to straight. Try pin curl then wrap with scarf, you will love the results. SJ
