As a straight haired natural since about 2013, I get an amino acid hair treatment (Design Essentials STS) once a year during the summer. Amino acid hair treatments help to strengthen the hair and help your hair to not revert when in hot and humid weather. I would also say unless you have a coarse hair texture, steer clear of titanium flat irons. I have low porosity fine textured hair and my curl pattern does not like titanium flat irons. I find my hair does better with ceramic flat irons. I know has a straight haired natural my curl pattern will loosen over time. But titanium completely straightens my curl pattern. Also, Olaplex will aid in strengthening the bonds of your hair as a straight haired natural. Olaplex (no. 6)has an amazing leave in conditioner.
I've never heard of an amino acid treatment, thanks for all of that good information on the flat irons and products! I'm going to chat with my stylist about it all.
I have had amino acid treatments in the past when I was a loose natural and agree. I could get them and my hair would be straight as long as I kept it straight. I got caught in a drizzle once and it still held up. When I wanted to go back to my curls I would wash my hair and do my normal natural hair styling ang the kinks were back. I had no breakage or weak hair afterwards.
@@dontliveinfear.7640 I can't say for sure. I only got it with straightened hair. It held up against it with straight hair, I wouldn't be surprised it it did the same with kinks and curls.
My daughter has waist length natural hair, I've been keeping it straight with a light press since school started. I still moisture her hair daily. I use Lotta Body Moisturize Me Curl and Style Milk, just a dime size focusing on her ends and I brush it in an seal with a drop of my favorite shea oil and her hair stays healthy and does not revert. Sometimes with kids the weight product adds can help the style last. Most people should still moisturize their hair while straight, IMO.
No matter how many tips I follow my hair does not stay straight for more than a week. I always have to add more heat. I think it depends on your hair and the climate of the area you live in. Nothing works to keep my hair straight. The humidity here is awful. In winter it stays more.
Last time I got my hair straightened was December 2010 or 2011 for my birthday. December. The winter time! Here in southeast Georgia’s humidity, my hair started proofing that very same night. 🤦🏾♀️ Conversely when I visited AZ, I don’t even remember sweating. In other news, I liked what your hair was giving me right out of the Bantu knots. Looked low key like soft beach waves.
Sandria Is Yes we have a very dry heat. I liked it on one side bit it would have looked better had o twisted the bantuknot on the other side the opposite way. I'm going to give it another try so I can wear some waves.
Girll I thought about this the other day and I reminded myself how you said it’s dry where you are lol. So my hair will nevaaaaa in Jersey. Nevaaaa. Plus I workout 👀 Nevaaaa lol
When you said if you lived in New Orleans I immediately gave a side eye cuz I'm from NOLA and got my hair pressed yesterday a d it didnt last 24hrs and I came here for help but now I know ALL HOPE IS LOST 😂😂😂😂😂. Somes I dislike living here lol
DRY SHAMPOO IS LIFE when you're trying to stretch a straight hairstyle. Also, I use one of those treatments that helps keep the hair straight naturally until you wash it out with a sulfate shampoo.
Same here. I believe good products are the essential basic. I wear a silk press short pixie and use self-adhesive rollers, a bit of serum for shine, and avoid water without a covering, and my hairdo looks excellent for a month.😆🙏
Great tips and girl yes climate is key. Living in AL is like living in the rainforest it rains so much here😭 and there's always moisture in the air even during the winter months.
You said it right. I live in Louisiana and that press will revert when you step out of the salon. LA's heat is above 90 degrees and humidity is above 80%. There's no way someone is going to get a silk press in August/September and have it last that long out here.
Yasssss golden!!! Proud of you!!! All these tips you gave were totally on point!!!!! Coming from a professional hairstylist!! These are all tips I give my clients!!!! I'm just glad I'm from the midwest and I still keep umbrellas in my car. And I took one in to the shop because I was like if this weather decide to throw craps I'm gone be M-A-D. Hello neighbor! Look, I just bought my first umbrella as an adult just yesterday! Lol I bought it to have shade while we went fishing 😁😂 I’m glad your press is lasting too!
I’m going to straighten my hair soon. You make a good point brosia to wrap every night without getting lazy. That’s my problem after the third day I’m already sleeping with buns or a ponytail and so the next day I have a bump. I have to stop being lazy and wrap it every night even if I wear my hair up all day. Can’t wait to have a break from my natural hair especially because I’m about to give birth! My issues are humidity and hot showers! I need my showers to burn my skin to feel clean! Lol my hair puffs up instantly in the humidity of Maryland. I swear it’s like we live in a swamp area sometimes it’s so much moisture in the air.
I had so much hope until she stated she lived in AZ 😫. Living in Louisiana or the south in general with all this humidity your silkpress might last a week, & let's not even mention working out😔
I'm months late but I was told by my stylists to wrap your scarf around your edges tight and dont take it off til your hair dries. Its lasted me doing that.
When I visited AZ in 2015, I knew I couldn't live there... beautiful place (I was in Phoenix), but baby, that air is *cough* *cough* DRY😩 I didn't suffer from nose bleeds, but my throat was sore after day 5!
Those nosebleeds are real lol! When I was a kid we moved form L.A to Pomona and I got nose bleeds when I started school because the air was so much dryer than what I was used to in Los Angeles especially living somewhat close to the beach.
Same here! I sweat buckets! Believe it or not, I have friend who’s scalp doesn’t sweat! We played sports together and her hair is always straight. Lucky her!
When the video started and you said you have 3 tips, the first thing i thought was, “what about when you’re in the shower?!” And of course, that was the best tip. lol. My hair would’ve been reverted cause my showers are always steammmyyyyyyyy!! Hair still look GOODT!

Truthfully, that is probably because your diet is off. Your hair shouldn’t smell after a month of no washing, especially if you aren’t sweating it out and sweat doesn’t have a smell. The smell comes from bacteria and build up. Make small changes in your diet, wash your bonnet or head scarf, use less product and you’ll notice a difference. Kerry-Ann Kimberly Bacteria breaking down the sweat and sebum is what causes the smell. My scalp sweats the most and it’s one of the first things on my body to sweat when I get hot or exercise. I wondered how she kept her hair so straight too until she said she lived in Arizona. I’m in Texas so it’s dry too but when it’s humid, it’s humid fr. Say goodbye to whatever hairstyle, natural or not
I wish it wasn't so humid where I live. I've tried silk wraps so many times and they last 5 minutes no matter what I do differently 😭🥴. And I haven't figured out why yet but my hair holds a curl with rollers, but with heat it falls flat the moment I finger comb it out 🥴
Brosia, I thought the bantu knot out was cute! Can you or someone else please explain to me how can flat ironed hair thrive without moisture? If you chose to get a silk press every 30 days, how can your hair hold moisture for that entire time after your hair appointment? Wouldn't it become drier and eventually break? I can't wrap my head around it.

Try using pin curls to get the bump back. It gives a great curl, that you can wrap and turn into fire volume.

You're gorgeous I really want to try a silk press my natural hair is very long but thin. Maybe a trim and press
I wish it wasn't so humid where I live. I've tried silk wraps so many times and they last 5 minutes no matter what I do differently 😭🥴. And I haven't figured out why yet but my hair holds a curl with rollers, but with heat it falls flat the moment I finger comb it out 🥴
This video helped a lot. Thanks!
The style still looks so good. I’m in Michigan 😕 and I wouldn’t even attempt this style.
Sabina moisture block. Helps your hair not to revert
My silk press been in for 4 days and hours look way better 😭
Only for the ladies in dry climates-zero humidity. Any help for the rest of us?
It’s been almost two weeks and my hair looks good but I don’t wrap it because I’m lazy lol.
🤣 wrapping is a task lol
Oh man, lucky you living in Arizona! I live in Louisiana so it's nothing but heat and humidity here.
The gym won’t let me be great
You don’t understand my jealousy! I live in Texas, I probably wouldn’t have made it through week 1 lol
I’m feeling this lady... she’s cool
Please recommend San Francisco Bay Area Beautition!!
