Hi James. Ply (and wood in general) has a tendency to warp if it is only sealed on one side. Paint the back, and add a batten frame on the inside. It was an eventful weekend. Son-in-law was rushed to hospital with an asthma attack, and while he was in A & E, my best mate was wheeled through with a heart attack. To cap it all off, the wind down my way is back with a vengeance, Happy new year, indeed. All the best, mate.
The suggestion I have for the warped plywood is to attach a straight board to the inside. I am continually impressed with how well you are doing on improvements. Nice work!
Morning James. It is so lovely to see the little ones at home on Sloe P. I am sure that they will soon get use to boat life, and enjoy their visits and , hopefully , trips along the canal. Good luck with the lift tomorrow , hope all goes well and the repairs are affordable. Enjoy lunch today .Take care when working on the stern deck .. Love and best wishes to you all C x
Might be worth mentioning that if your ply is only painted on one side it will always have a tendancy to bend due to different moisture content on opposite sides. Try painting the unpainted side if its not already.
My fingers are crossed for the lift out and assessment of the problem. Like you, I return to work Tuesday (tomorrow here in Texas). It sure has been nice having this past week and a half off. Can't wait to hear what's going on with the boat. -Leigh.
One oak braes/lat on the inside off ply wood and if you done the 1/2 dowel on out side like the kids bed cupboards that would help to mate thanks again for uploading and happy new year good luck for tomorrow
There are other types of fasteners which you could use for the plywood, one is a push in type with rollers on one part and a wedge shaped piece on the other and gives a solid connection, they should be in the same location as the magnets, at least they were when I worked at B&Q.
Happy New year James... Sloe Patrol is looking so good now. In one of your earlier vlogs you showed yourself chopping up some logs, next to the boat. I don't suppose you can remember which vlog it was... It would be really helpful if you could! Very many thanks... 🍷🍷
If you lay the wobbly board flat on the floor, you could no-more-nails glue a bit of wood across the back of it to stiffen it. Any old bit of spare plank or batten would probably do it.
Dampen the ply on the back, use some offcuts to twist it in the opposite direction and stand some weights onto it. Leave it to dry. it will spring back, but not as far as it currently is. Hope that makes sense? You have to twist beyond flat to take the twist out.
Lay the ply flat measure how much bend is in it place some wood under where the bend is. Ideally twice as much as it needs to bend. Then weigh the corners down and leave for a couple of days. It might help to damp the back. This then let's the ply bend the opposite way. When you take the weights off it will spring back half way thus it should then be flat. Hope this makes sense and helps.
Happy New Year James. Even if you straighten the ply it will warp agsin with time. I would be inclined to brace the back of it by screwing on a framework which will fit inside the framework of the cabinet (that is assuming you can find some timber framing which isn't warped - not easy at Wickes)!
Happy New Year James your coming along quite nicely. What do you do for work? I was a set up man in a big factory here in Germany for 35 years. Have a great day with the girls.
James, you really should try and do things permanently rather than ‘ that’ll do for now, it’s only temporary’ it just makes for more work when you could be getting on with something else.
It's shaping up nicely 👍James!🇺🇲🥳🎉
Make sure you secure everything breakable & moveable before the lift !! God i sound like my Mum. :-)
LOL!!

Good luck for the lift out and the diagnostic results, keeping everything crossed that it’s not a huge expense 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

Thanks so much
Hope you are doing Ok James, loving the progress. Take care.
Just the issue I’ve had with warping ply - useful to read the comments too :)
Screw a baton to the inside of the door it will give the thin ply more integrity, somewhere near the top of the door.

Happy new year, Carol! xxx
Happy New Year James and the build continues. Good luck with the lift of the boat and I hope the repair is quick easy snd not too expensive. Keith. .
Cheers Keith
The more you do in that area, the worse those doors look! 🤣 Seriously tho, I know you got something planned, can’t wait!
good vid looking good keep up the good vids thanks lee
Hope all go's well this morning James.....
Sorry tomorrow Tuesday...

Hope it all goes well tomorrow with the crane out and that they are able to fix the dive relatively easily. Take care and Happy New Year.

Top Transposing Young James. Good luck with the Lift Out. :-)

You could do the slats on the top of that cupboard like you have on the cupboards in the bedroom?
Happy new year bro

107. The first lighting of the Narrowboat fire. Was it this one Steve
Hi JJ, thanks for the reply. I found this one but the one I was after showed James chopping some small logs with a smaller hand axe..🍷🍷

Excellent woodworking skills James. Learnt alongside the best! Happy new year to you.
A flat piece of steel might do the trick or you could install guides on the right and either magnets or any small catch to keep it closed.
If you make a handle across the cover it will keep ply from warping

I’ve kind of tried that already - maybe longer
Happy New Year James.

Paint the electrics cabinets cover panel on both sides.
Yeah will do
Should straighten it out some.
A couple of battens across the top and bottom of the plywood, should stiffen the whole thing up.
Use roller catches much stronger than magnets
Right on the money you are. These affordable easy to install latching devices are a sure shot at remediating the situation.

Stronger magnets, 25 gauss should do the trick.
Best of luck with the hoisting and hauling--it never ends, eh?
I can’t be the only one thinking…….should have put the wires on the speaker before screwing the board in place……
Put a weight on the ply overnight, it will help straighten it.
use earth magnets
A batten fixed to the back will pull it back into shape..
👍👌🇨🇦❤
