Just wanted you to know that I was so inspired by a gift you received way back in the beginning, that I bought my daughter the big bag of Yorkshire Gold Tea. She love it. The look when she saw it was priceless. 450 bags of tea. Should last a couple of months. Enjoying the work, your creativity is pretty cool. Cheers, Mate. Scott
James,, your ingenuity knows no bounds. It is always fun and interesting too seeing you solving the problems and reaching an aesthetic yet practical solution 🤔😀
The captain made it work… using his original idea… which happens to be the most cost effective. Kudos. Happy Birthday 🎂 to the little “Jamers “ . An update on the “repair$” would be timely. Cheers 🥂 🇨🇦
Great idea James but I personally think that I prefer that mounts that are sunken in the floor so that when the table is taken down you then dont have a tripping hazard. But that's just me... 😉😊
Hi James, after watching the video of your table. I was thinking that rather than using an Allen key a knob/handle would be better. A longer bolt with the head encased in epoxy resin would probably work a treat. Obviously the thread would have to match with what you have now and should be able to keep the table stable when you are using it as a table.
Hi James ref locking the top where the Allen screws are, Hopper suggested threaded knobs good call but Google kip locks, a lever type multi positional variation of his threaded knobs !! Lol Worth a look. Your vlogs are some of the best on here thanks for them.
Ingenious design, off setting the leg to the side and having the top revolve around that off-set point. Gives two table top to bench possibilities. And a very good idea to have that Allen Key on a long enough chain. Preclude it's perambulations.
After you've walked into the base on the floor time after time, I'm sure you'll rethink your idea to buying and fitting an already available on the market table leg that fits direct into the floor so it's flat rather than sticking up, which is a trip hazard especially where floor space is premium on a NB. Also using an Allen key constantly will surely be a pain, especially if you only have 1 and keep misplacing it. I'm sorry but I don't think this is a good idea and I think it will be more of a pain for you. Perhaps buy a drop leaf table or look at the products you can buy in a chandler's to make a proper adjustable table suitable for NB use. Just my opinion as I'm a live aboard too so aware of space/issues/storage etc ... Good luck with your black toe nails 😂😂😜
Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t the table/bed a permanent feature. ie it’s either a table or a bed. James did also mention attaching the Allen key to the leg via a chain
The shape of the end of the allen screw might need tobe profiled. I am imagining that the screw end to have en edge that digs into the tube. For a one or two times of installation that works. But for something done again and again the tube will be all chewed up in no time. You could add a second piece of wood at the top similar to the floor configuration so the bolt heads do not go all the way through the table top.
Nice engineering/problem-solving James. One advantage of the rounded mounting base thingy is that your feet will slide past instead of stubbing your toes. Critical in those early mornings on the cut. ;-) (Also, the hanging chain is a good idea, given the critical importance of that Allen wrench.)
Great video. If you sit on the edge of your table and it takes your weight then it will if it's in bed format. But if not then you'll need something beefier.
Inventive craftsmanship as always James. I might recommend you look into wing bolts for the base of the table leg so you can add or remove the table without the use of the allen wrench. Also resining pennies looks amazing. Cheers!
Hey James. You could have gone to where you build your boat. They have some steal left over to cut out a flange and weld it to the pipe. Then a 200 mm cirkel will do the trick. Much stronger. Then bold it through the steal beam under the floor. Then you can stand on the table hahahaha
I would guess that you’ll want a bit of plastic to shim the socket. That will take the wobble out of it without needing to tighten the bolts and stop rotation. Maybe even something like the front of a plastic presentation folder could be enough with a couple of layers.
I have found this among many others on Ebay "Telescopic Table Leg 50-70cm Aluminium Adjustable Height Pedestal motorhome boat, £136.35 just a suggestion James
Resin table top; don't be fooled by how easy it looks on RUclips. I've done one and I'm by no means an expert, but I spent a fortune on resin and learned loads. Happy to share my 'experience' if you're interested.
Great progress with the usual James innovative solution - well done that man. When a bed, will the single leg be enough or could you use a single bead of wood around the top of the seat to make the bed base more stable. Could be narrow so as to not interfere with the back of your leg when in table mode. Whatever solution you choose it will doubtless be the Mutt's Nuts 😎😎
I know you'll probably go no haha, but when you can of course i would love to see you do up a bigger boat it will make more good content, not right Now of course maybe in years to come?. Like Take what you have learnt and apply it to a newer bigger boat to be fair I bet you'll love that. ( Maybe not ) but it's some good suggestions for future you maybe? But keep up the good work .:)
@@TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt niceee that sounds good man :) would definitely love to see that hope when the times comes you get a decent deal for your boat. I would recommend 60-65ft boat that will give you 45-50ft livable space inside most likely dubble of what you have already :) can't wait to see what boat you get next :) but keep up the good work.
Your problem solving is so beneficial to many… this is the exposure our children need to have. Thank you.

Great idea mate with the rotating table but I would have thought you would have just made it one side for eating and one side for bed
I really like your approach; active prototyping, very DevOps. Hope you’re doing well.
Happy birthday to your twins...boat is looking great
James, for kids and yourself safety round the corners of table...💙👊😎
Yes that’s obviously what I’ll be doing when the replacement top is made
Happy Belated Birthday to the twins !! 🥳🎂 🎂🥳

Morning James, Have a lovely day and quality time with your family.Happy Birthday to the girls.🎂🎂
Thanks Sue
Good table and happy birthday to the twins
That’s brilliant! Works Great.
I personally like the wooden plinth for the table leg! The kids will grow quickly too!!!

Hi James.
Not exactly what I had in mind, but if it works for you...
All the best, mate.
@@IDKline I know. Sniff. 😭
Maybe put a bracket/loop/magnet on the bottom of the table for the allen key so you don't keep losing track of it. ;-)
the dewalt driver has a magnet on the side for storing bits and the allen key if needed ;)

Ok ok so it was your idea to hang the key on a chain - but mate it works - it works - it bloody works !!

Your right this cheap option will prove to be expensive in the long run
I offered to fund a purpose built item giving you, James , the opportunity to focus your skills and talent on the top. 🤗
It’s your boat so do what you bloody well want , the only thing I’d suggest is keep a bottle of kraken and some Guinness just in case I visit 😂😂 xx
Howdy James and very clever design for the table. Conversion to a bed could be simple as well. Keith
Cheers Keith
Just get thicker cushions for the dinette - then your table will be just the right height and the dinette bed will be more comfy for guests.
Yep that’s the plan

Caravan breakers. Tables, cushions etc. loads of 2nd hand parts on eBay.
Ok I’ll check it out
Recess the heads of the bolt in the top enough so you could put some round plugs of same wood to cover the bolt heads James.
Yeah I’ll work on something for the finished table top
@@TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt I'm slowly catching up with all your older videos.
Get some threaded knobs to replace the setscrews.
Yep on it
Oh, your are back. I was wondering…
I’m here - as always
Would it help you if you went to a caravan company and have a look see How they are done
It might but this works better than most things in caravans which wobble loads
You can replace the Allen set screw with a knob.
I would guess that you’ll want a bit of plastic to shim the socket. That will take the wobble out of it without needing to tighten the bolts and stop rotation.

Hi James, any new updates please.
Are You OK? It so long since posted last!
Yes I’m fine thanks - busy with work and other stuff. I’ll hopefully be back at the boat tomorrow
Stay well - thanks

Thanks Malcolm - I saw it but the minimum is too high
Damn. I never took the “wobble factor” or “faff element” into consideration on any of my projects. No wonder I have limited success. 🤦♂️
Ah well there you go. Got to factor in things like faff
Drill a 3mm pilot through the metal, self tappers with penny washers on to stop it pulling through the hole of the base jobs a good un
James that's the table, but more importantly how is the gearbox coming along.
I think it’s all on site now - we were waiting for a link to be machined

James I think you might want to re-think yr table mount .....theres gonna be some sore toes coming yr way ...just saying ..
If that is an aluminum leg you can cut that to size with a hacksaw
Instead of the foot of the table sticking up I would have drilled a hole the same size as the tube in the floor and mounted it UNDER the floor.
You are going to be a busy boy on Sunday, where do you get your energy from ?
Use a scrap car disc brake.
Great progress with the usual James innovative solution - well done that man. Cheers Chris - I think it will be stable enough - if not I’ll be doing something similar to what you said
Nice t shirt
Some things aren't worth cheaping-out on.
You could round off the corners of the tabletop, perhaps?
I’ll defo be redoing the table top
I sense sore toes
I would make your dinette pullout like your bed and buy
A table that folds down and moves out the way
Standard table height is 76 I'm for a dining table
Oh ok so I’m bang on !!! Good to know
Surely the leg is bolted to the boat People are going to trip over the stump with the table removed
Err no - table will always be there - if it’s not there - the bed will be in place - either way - no trip hazard
Insert a shock absorber that when deprest will be at coffee table hight and when releastt will be at dinette hight 😎😎😎
👍👌🇨🇦❤
I won’t lie I don’t think it’s going to look good having that bracket on the floor like that. Could you not have it sunk in the floor?

How about round the table corners a bit, less damage to children should they ever play let's spin the twins on the table.
James can you buy a better mic its getting harder and harder to hear you.
