Artist. You're the only youtuber I know that fully leans into the sci-fi theme... even "just" for a review or contemplation on gear. Love your style man. You know lenses, light, filtration, grading, SOUND (people don't use this enough). Cheers! Love watching this kind of content. Make Art Now and Andreas Hem are also creative like this. I love youtubers who stick to quality over quantity, for the sake of making a good impactful video that meets your vision. Not giving into the algorithm daily video stuff.
@@GxAce Yeah, but I love the theme. As you're probably aware Josh from Make Art Now also builds this universe with his AI computer narration. But have you seen Andrew Huang the musician? He's made a video that hes moving to space and now shoots his vids in a spaceship set, but it's so cool, like you actually start to wonder. by the way @2:40 I also love the 55mm 1.8, and guess what, Sony did just release 3 very compact lenses for FF at the sacrifice of some image quality. (probably has to do with the A7C)
I like that such a well used camera, with all its dents, scuffs, tapes... is being valorized as you did. Finally something different to watch and still high end editing! Well done!
This video was one of several which inspired me to pick up a used A7S Mark I with a 1800 shutter count. Since owning it, I've been stunned by how much better in low light and how much sharper it is than my Canon 5Dii and EOS M (which are my only two other cameras) I even used the A7S on a paid job filming a musician's album launch concert, and I can say the A7S blew the 5D out of the water!
I love the minor detail of replacing the year to 2045 and with your point in 8:50, the number doesn't matter. It's timeless and they were the "flagship" for a reason.
My A7s has been my work horse for concert photography for years now. Stoked to see you talking about it. I want to get an Xpro 3 terribly bad, but will honestly never sell my Sony for so many reasons
8:50 seconds to the end, thank you for saying that. Everything now seems to be so fast paced in terms of how often things are updated, and it feels great to know that something doesn't lose its relevance just because there is something new and enticing out there
One thing about your video that sticks to me is: "It doesn't matter how much times passes, that image is still going to look good". Something I will keep in mind if I want to get a new body. Maybe I just don't need that new body, just have fun with my current one.
That piece at the end about obsolescence is so true. I dusted off my 11 year old GF1 took a few shots, and next thing I know I'm using it regularly as my daily carry. I've had it out on my counter and friends/non photographers naturally reach for it and have fun snapping shots. The 12mp files look as good as ever. It ended my dirty consumerist thoughts of a new camera...
You got me at the obsolescence.. the whole video was great, but being able to have the mindfulness and knowledge of exactly what you discussed in the obsolescence section is rare to come by nowadays. So many people are specification chasers and want the newest and best without having a true need for them. Thumbs up from me. 👍🏼
As a Sony user I'm blown away to see you talk about the A7S. I felt like I was fooled back when I first saw your Fuji X-T3 video and assumed you used another Fuji camera while using your Fuji as the subject. I did hear you talk about the A7 and the Canon 5D cameras in the past but never expected you to still use the A7S to this day. I love my A7SIII. It still is capable for good enough photos for online use. That said I still gravitate towards my A7III to make sure I have an "everlasting" set of footage. Once again GX, blowing away my expectations as a photographer and proving that the tools don't make the shooter. It's the person behind the camera.
Haha. Yup I haven't been able to bring myself to sell the A7s. Its just nice to have it as a b-cam and a full frame camera to play around with my leica lenses on. Thanks for watching!!
For sure! Anyone still sees the photo with the guys sitting down, on a skyscraper in New York, in the 20-30s, drinking Cola... and that picture is still hanged on a wall, in so many places, even today! The camera helps you, but if you are a sucky photographer like me, than nothing will help you become better :))
11:00 heads up that there's a Sigma EVF module coming, and there's a kit for tilting the fp from the same guy who made them for the blackmagic. This was excellent commentary even without the A7S topic. Thanks
@GxAce: PLEASE answer this, when you wish, cause it will change my life: the photos with the dogs and flowers, are those made with the Voigtländer lens? Or which one, please?
There are photography/camera youtube channels, there are camera companies and corporations, but the production quality, the contents and contained message, and the almost guided audio-visual meditation aspect of every video makes this absolutelly unparalelled by anyone. Thank you mr. Kavanaugh for your dedication and stunning work (so I'll probably pull the trigger on the X-T2, when I have the chance, to get into digital)
I’m totally with you on wanting smaller cameras and smaller lenses. That form factor is more important to me than the extra features we’re getting these days at the expense of size and weight. Great video man. I love your perspective on photography and video making. I’m gonna check out your presets as well. Thanks.
I also had a new A7s a few years back. Sold it, and got one again this year. Paired to the Voigtlander 40mm 1.2 it is amazing. I like it a lot more than the A7iii in real world use. I'll probably add a CV21mm 1.4 and call it a day as far as photography goes.
haha, same!! i use two A7iii for wedding work etc., but in private i allways reach for the A7s with small vintage lenses. much more convenient due to size and weight, and simply a greater shooting experience.

Okay, you made me reconsider buying X100V, which I wanted to buy to carry everyday to to capture more of daily life. I had no idea a7s is same size. This changes everything, especially considering its price right now.
Fantastic video. I love your style as always and the "sponsorship" was really fun. You made me want to take a closer look at the a7s as part of my kit alongside my a6500 and x100f. A couple weeks ago as I was taking Christmas portraits of my daughter with a vintage Ricoh 55mm f1.4, I was thinking about how a bigger sensor would help me to better deal with background distractions. And since I wanted a candlelight look, the a7s would have fit the bill well. That said, my daughter isn't quite 2 and it is tough to keep her still for a well-focused manual shot, so autofocus was also on my mind...maybe I decide what I want to do by 2045.
Owned this camera until last summer because I switched to the Fuji xt-3, partly because of your review. I have used it for both video and photography. Loved it because of its low light and size but I prefer the 10-bit and better skin tones on the fujifilm. I do miss the smaller file sizes and the low light. I can definitely recommend this camera.

@@GxAce okay wait are you just playing or is this for real because there’s an ad baked into the beginning of your video and I can’t tell if you put it there to be clever or really don’t know what everyone is talking about 😂
Great video! I put my hands on this camera above a month ago, took from work's gears since no one was using it anymore. It's my first FF camera (already own a zv-e10) and I'm really excited to take out the best I can from it.
Wow literally yesterday I was looking at pictures of those Osbourne computers and admiring their logo, and then literally yesterday at a completely different time I watched a couple of your old videos and wondered when you'd post more because I enjoy them so much. Well (and uncannily) done
Thank you for making these videos! As an XT3 shooter, these videos have helped me improve the quality of my work. There are a few shots at around 9:02 where the camera you are filming with is on a rig with another camera it is filming. I've seen that type of shot before in movies but I've never seen it done the way you've shot it. Fantastic work, I can't wait to see what you have planned for the future.
Love the part about the obsolescence: The fact that most of the pictures clicked today on phones is 12MP proves that the image quality is good enough for a large percentage of the population. I had the original A7 and the size difference is very apparent. Love the bigger battery units on the latest gen A7 bodies though
been wanting one of these to upgrade from my 5Dc. i kinda like the low megapickles look. i like old shcool shutter button placement of the first gen a7's. also that monitor lightbox is so freaking cool. love the visuals of this video so much.
2045 AND UR STILL USING XT3 AS MAIN CAMERA?? You need that NEW XT-11(H) With that 1300mm f0.5 which is perfect for those bokeh shots of the infected in the outer zones!
The production value on these videos is out of control. But really though, a great video. We all like to get hyped on the next iteration of something, but a great reminder that the last few generations of these cameras are still exceptional and worthy of professional use.
Thank you so much! I'm glad you appreciate the work that goes into them! Yeah camera's have been good for a while and most reviewers just seem to act like older digital cameras don't exist.
Killer video! I remember my a7s. I had it with me in a trip to Kenya. I took it out at night and caught the most surprising photos. I think the greatest thing about these original a7’s was the feel! They are solid and had a wonderful sound to them. Suppose I may buy myself one again.
So I shoot my serious work with a Pentax 645D and it is literally 10 years old. But it has the look that I want and love with the CCD. It is slow, the screen sucks, no video, etc., but the files are as close to my medium format Portra 400 as I have found. A camera is a hammer. If the tool gets the job done, that's all that really matters. We are living in a great time to buy old gear cheap with excellent results.
That's awesome dude. Yeah, find the camera you like to use and one that gets you inspired and that's all you really need. People DEFINITELY overlook old digital stuff, and I think that is completely because of how computers age.
Well, that was fun. I mean it. The dystopian look was a bit of a shock at first, but then really cool. What a unique and interesting way to produce a review video. The serendipity is that I've been shopping for an A7S (first model) for about a month, trying to find a decent buy. I have a ton of vintage glass in my collection (especially my Konica collection, but a lot of Nikkors and odd instances like some Russian glass) that was fun to shoot on a Nex-5N. I couldn't justify an A7S when they came out, but I can go for one at current prices. And... you are right on the mark about resolution and cameras. My favorite cameras, the Fuji XT-1 and the X-H1, have plenty of resolution and decent high-ISO performance. But even my old D300 still produces solid images (if I'm in the mood to lug something heavy). I miss my Sony Nex-5N with the EVF. I rarely used any of the E-Mount lenses, shooting mostly adapted vintage glass. I came away with many interesting captures during that period, partly because the little camera was so handy and partly because of the look of vintage glass. Thanks for the reminder and encouragement to find myself an A7S.
Thank you so much! I'm glad the style ended up working for you, its definitely not for everyone, I just love sci-fi haha. It definitely could be a great camera for your situation!
Yet another inspiring video that makes me wanna go out and shoot the short film I've always wanted to make. I better stop complaining about Fuji auto focus and start focusing more on manual. The fact that all these Amazing shots are all on manual is just unbelievable goes to show how gear is just only a tool and it's all about the man behind the camera that utilizes that tool. Keep up the good work gx Thanks for keeping us inspired
Love this content, keep it coming. My original Fuji x100 came yesterday, after I ordered it based on your video suggesting it's still relevant today and I'm loving it so far 👍🏽
Dope video as always! As a FP owner I would be itnerested to see what you think after using it. It is SO small and yeah there some limitation but being able to shoot 12 bit cinema DNG in 1080 24fps to an SD card is what makes me love it.
I would definitely love to try it out, but the lack of a tilting screen and an EVF would make it a bit hard for me to use as a photo camera, but I could definitely see myself using it for video (though I also still would wish that the screen tilted)
Always a treat to watch your videos but this also holds some relevant information people aren’t talking about amongst the release hype we’ve been having in this last quarter. Good stuff :)
@@GxAce If you have some place where you have full res wallpapers let me know. I loved some of the shots in your xt-3 review, would love to put them up on my wallpaper! Thanks
I have the og a7s I use as my b camera and thanks for reminding me how great of a camera it still is. I’m gonna take it out tomorrow with my vintage canon fd 50 and take some photos!
coolest reviews on youtube, seriously. I would also mention that the original a7 are pretty good looking, with its simple lines and piano black finish. It's a pitty they have been making it bulkier and totally messing up the shape. If they 'd continued refining the design instead of putting steroyds now we would have an a7iv kinda close to a leica sl
I can never get over how amazing your videos are, man. The effort really fucking shows. I'm trying to chase this aesthetic right now, but goddamn is it harder than I thought. Keep it up, man!
I bought two weeks ago it for $420 in almost pristine condition. Amazing stuff with ~20mm FF AF. Going for my hobby astrophoto and astrovideo (insane video ISO). Thank you for this video :D
Hey man, i absolutly love the style of your photography and the aesthetics of this channel. That Blade Runner-esque opening shot over the city was really something. I can honestly say, im just as excited to see a new video posted here than i am for the next episode on my favourite shows. One thing i want to say on the video topic: Having a small, lightweight, video-capable mirrorless full-frame camera was always fascinating to me. So when sony released the A7C, i was super excited for it, but honestly i feel the main problem with this kind of setup is not the size of the camera body, its the size of those large full frame lenses that negate the advantage of having a small and compact camera. Anyways, superb content. Ill be sure to give those lightroom presets a look.
Wow that is so awesome of you to say! It really means a lot. YES! I hate that lenses are getting so much bigger now :( Give me a super small lens with OK performance over a huge perfect lens any day.
If you wanna go even cheaper and your focus is photography you should take a look at the regular a7. You will get worse lowlight, but that's very situational.
I’m still a huge fan of the canon rp. I miss that camera some days, but I love my Fuji x100v. This looks like a steal of a camera now a days and these images you’ve captured are 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
I use a Nikon D700, which is almost 15 years old, pretty regularly. It still takes stunning photos, and actually has much better IQ in a lot of ways than my APS-C Canon which is 10 years newer.
Hi, I came to your channel looking for info on the A7s, and now remember I have visited here before. I always knew that the large megapixel was a bit of a hype/marketing strategy. Although in saying there is a place for higher mpg. For Now you have confirmed that. I only have a 12 megapixel cameras eg: pano GF1 and 5D classic. I really dug your photos and the contrasty muted tones. Great video thanks so much, subscribed. Also saw your blad 500cm - have the same 😌

I thought RUclips was broken for a second because the ad footage would not skip 😂.
A lot of people are saying the ads wont skip on this video. Very odd...
@@GxAce okay wait are you just playing or is this for real because there’s an ad baked into the beginning of your video and I can’t tell if you put it there to be clever or really don’t know what everyone is talking about 😂
@@GxAce The ad seems to be embedded in the video.
I’m glad you enjoy the videos so much! Haha. What a coincidence ;)
Absolutely brilliant. Honestly, the most interesting and atmospheric reviews.
Thanks!!! :))
Love the part about the obsolescence: The fact that most of the pictures clicked today on phones is 12MP proves that the image quality is good enough for a large percentage of the population. I had the original A7 and the size difference is very apparent. Love the bigger battery units on the latest gen A7 bodies though
It’s something that I don’t feel people think about too often, but it’s really hard to get a bad camera these days
such wise words about the threshold! I couldn't agree more!
Yeah there definitely is a point where more resolution doesn’t help anything.
been wanting one of these to upgrade from my 5Dc. i kinda like the low megapickles look. i like old shcool shutter button placement of the first gen a7's. also that monitor lightbox is so freaking cool. love the visuals of this video so much.
For sure. The old shutter button location was far better.
2045 AND UR STILL USING XT3 AS MAIN CAMERA?? You need that NEW XT-11(H) With that 1300mm f0.5 which is perfect for those bokeh shots of the infected in the outer zones!
man you really need to get into movie production, your editing is insane
I actually already am! ;)
@@GxAce Where can I see you movie production work?
It definitely could be a great camera for your situation!
honestly The 21mm f/4 with this camera in black and white was one of my favorite combos ever
Keep up the good work gx
Thanks for keeping us inspired
Love this content, keep it coming. My original Fuji x100 came yesterday, after I ordered it based on your video suggesting it's still relevant today and I'm loving it so far 👍🏽
Great to hear! You will love it!! Thanks for watching! Old digital cameras need love too!
@@GxAce yeah it can pose some interesting issues for sure.
You’ve quickly become one of my favorite channels on RUclips. Your style is incredible man! Thanks for the inspiration
I’ve been searching for months for a camera that shoots good videos for my RUclips channel. This video helped a lot, thank you.
Always a treat to watch your videos but this also holds some relevant information people aren’t talking about amongst the release hype we’ve been having in this last quarter. Good stuff :)
That’s really kind of you to say! People definitely don’t need the newest camera every time it comes out ;)
Dude no matter what camera you get in your hands it just looks insane!
Thank you so much, you are too kind!
@@GxAce If you have some place where you have full res wallpapers let me know. I loved some of the shots in your xt-3 review, would love to put them up on my wallpaper! Thanks
That ad footage was genius.
just ordered the a7r classic in 2024 in almost mint condition. Old cameras are such a good deal
That ad always gets me 🤣🤣
Please stop posting videos, everytime I see a review on this channel I buy things
Hahaha. Please send my condolences to your wallet ;P
This video is a kind of declaration of love to the camera...
I still use my Original A7 - Full frame, 25 megapixels, 1080p at 60fps, not a bad way to enter the market. Those are even cheaper than the A7s
I have the og a7s I use as my b camera and thanks for reminding me how great of a camera it still is. I’m gonna take it out tomorrow with my vintage canon fd 50 and take some photos!
Your video is such a vibe man! I feel like you're briefing on a mission about this Camera!
coolest reviews on youtube, seriously. I would also mention that the original a7 are pretty good looking, with its simple lines and piano black finish. It's a pitty they have been making it bulkier and totally messing up the shape. If they 'd continued refining the design instead of putting steroyds now we would have an a7iv kinda close to a leica sl
Totally! I love the old style so much more. Thanks for watching!
The King is back. I'm looking for your videos like for christmas!
Hahah. Santa is here!
Totally agree, I recently upgraded to the a7s3 for my thesis film, but from time to time I still miss using my original a7s.
This guy is living in 2070, even the ad so good and I watched it three times. 🤣 Here before the million of subs.
Hahah. Thank you very much my friend!
I discovered your channel last night and it’s incredible.
If you wanna go even cheaper and your focus is photography you should take a look at the regular a7. You will get worse lowlight, but that's very situational.
this video is gonna be recommended af in 2045
It took years to finally get this camera to where it is, price wise. Same for other digital technology with planned obsolescence.
Feeling your pain...
@GxAce i just bought a used a7s and subscribed ,will be getting those presets, such a fierce review, wow wow wow
This video blew me away, I never sub review product stuff but you won me under a minute
Are you a time traveler by any chance? That set up with the monitors... 🔥🔥🔥
This is possible;P
I’m still a huge fan of the canon rp. I miss that camera some days, but I love my Fuji x100v. This looks like a steal of a camera now a days and these images you’ve captured are 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
Thank you!! Yeah its definitely still a good cam.
Love the vibes on this. The obsolete science sequence at the end is brilliant. Great work
Mann i love the vibes from all of your videos!!
V I B E S Thanks!!
The third ad looking lit blending with the mid roll 😮😮😮
man i'm so glad this channel exists and that i discovered it, thanks!
Also saw your blad 500cm - have the same 😌
So awesome man. Will buy your preset pack. You deserve it
Thank you so much!! It really means a lot my friend
Glad to see you back on track, and as usual, your videos are superb! keep up the good work... And yeah.. that super computer looks lush! HAHA..
Thank you so much my friend! Yeah it definitely feels good to get another video out! Haha, indeed it does ;P
Do you happen to remember the lens you used to shoot that first epic landscape shot of the small house on the side of the mountain? Holy crap that photo is insane
Thanks! That was with the Sony Zeiss 55mm 1.8!
Maa!
Maaaa!
GxAce uploaded another video!
:))))
Combination of great sound design and visuals, masterful.
This was awesome. Had to stop and comment. Love the production style here buddy!
buying an a7s in 2021 after watching this video makes me feel im the chosen one :)
As a person from 2045 i agree with you
