Wenger could have ended up with a trophy haul like Pep, Morinho or Sir Alex only if he was financially backed like those clubs owners. Even when he did spend it was mostly to compensate for players who left so he always had a weaker team. It’s sad many footballing pundits and fans don’t recognise this and ultimately got him sacked.

Similiar thing is happening with Klopp. I suspect people in the future won’t understand or respect the genius of Klopp these last few years just like some don’t respect the genius of Wenger back then. Both competed against titans (the 2 Manchester clubs) with far bigger budgets

People forget, but even before Kroenke we never spent big! Wenger brought Vieira and Anelka as two unknowns for little money and turned them to monsters. Vieira went on to be one of the biggest players in the clubs history and Anelka was sold for big money that he used to bring Thierry Henry and build the training ground! United always were spending much bigger that's why they got to highjack Ronaldo's deal and they always spent more overall yet Wenger got us competing and winning against them, we even won the league in their ground! Then little clubs like Chelsea and City took spending steps higher and we went even lower with the stadium debts and Kroenke coming! Yet Wenger still created great players like Van Persie, Cesc, Nasri, Sagna, Adebayor, Diaby, Theo, Clichy, Eduardo, Vela, Rosicky and many more yet they were either sold by our great board or cursed with endless injuries! Arsene Wenger overachieved throughout his time at Arsenal. He's one of the games greatest ever minds. I hope to see him managing a side with a great squad and a big budget soon. I know he's currently working on developing football with FIFA but it's still possible. We need to see more of his beautiful football and with a good enough squad he can conquer again!

The difference is that we kept our players, we had amazing players and it was more or less about developing for most of the teams. Only few were buying to make the team top team, like Real Madrid. Then we continued doing the same, we didn't adapt. Chelsea came and started buying players, we were in transition. Oh well.. now I read the 3rd and 4th roll of your comment :D :D :D

@@alaooooy7 I don't think a lot people in general saw the genius in Wenger. Especially modern football where everything revolved around trophies so when we had our drought people sort of thought he became senile.
Yet this 'senile' oldman had nothing but love for the club and even revealing that he was an Arsenal fan the whole time, this oldman got us champions league for 20 consecutive years; sure we always get knocked out in group stages but it beats getting knocked out in European group stages like we did this year🙄
And now look what happened. We're playing boring football, shitty tactics, a mercenary as a captain (Auba can leave for all I care, he's just a glory Hunter and I wouldn't be surprised when he leaves), shit midfield, and all the wengerball players were sold and no one batted an eye ; then surprise pikachu face when we play shit and in the position we're in now.

      @alaooooy7 4 года назад +34

@@Travisbig7 Not everything revolves on trophies in modern football. Everything revolves about money! He was in a club that never spends for such a long time! He bought Campbell for nothing and Kolo for half a million and Lehmann for a million and a half and went invincible with them in defence. Look at how much United spent in those times for Ferdinand and Van Der Saar! Pep now is spending 60m per fullback and per winger yet Wenger is still in a great position when it comes to trophies. We only won three leagues in the 44 years before him, he won three in his first 8 years! We only won 6 FA Cups ever before him and he won 7 in 22 years! He overachieved considering the financial situations of the club but some people are too blind to see the bigger picture.

Gamerx - GP107HD we built a new stadium so we didn’t have money or good players to keep up with top of the table teams but wenger always got us ucl football also a lot of our players were incredible wonderful players but injury prone and were never fit which was also a huge problem but wenger did great to get us into top 4 from 2007-2013 after that it went downhill we had the money but kroenke didn’t really give us much at all and yes wenger didn’t like to spend often but still he got very frustrated often but took all the blame instead of blaming others like for example saying giroud is enough in 2014 when he wasn’t given enough money to sign a striker instead of saying I didn’t get the money I needed the season after that for me should have been wengers last and he could have won the league as well we had the best defense in the league with per and kosc and cech being incredible and ozil having a amazing season but again the problem was giroud who went I think like 16 games without a goal something insane like that so if we had signed someone like laca or auba that season we would have won the league and wenger would have retired a legend
The year after for me was the worst season in the modern wenger era it was embarrassing in every competition and the signings were awful and didn’t work out which some of the blame goes to wenger whike some goes to Ivan gazidas who I blame so much for our demise I fucking hate that man he ruined our club so badly he didn’t help wenger at all instead he dragged him back
In his good bye day he looked so sad because he was driven back by stupid fans blaming him for everything not realizing that he had so much to offer and he didn’t want to leave the club he loves in the state they are in which is shit

I think that it is basically impossible to go unbeaten now. There are a much wider range of tactics, so it is so difficult to come up with a system that can get past all of them. The main reason why this was so successful was because most teams used a 4-4-2, so it was easier to prepare. It is possible but I think that this Liverpool team will be the closest to do it ever again (or at least for the next 50 years)

AMAZING analysis!.. This is what I wanted, to compare to Arteta's style of football. You just prooved that Arteta's football is the same as Wenger's football albeit with different players. The players from invincible compared to their current versions: Defence : Lauren/Zivchenko, Sol Cambell/Saliba, Kolo/Gabriel, Cole/Ben White --- MD: Gilberto/Partey --- MF : Vieira/Xhaka, Bergkamp/Odegaard,--- AT : Pires/Saka, Henry/Jesus, Lungjberg/Martinelli. It makes sense, becoz as you pointed out, though wenger starts as 4-4-2, the team moves into a more 4-2-3-1 formation, which is what Arteta plays form the get go. Xhaka and Oddegard, joins the attack to create more attacking options just like how Bergkamp and Vieira did. Pires coming into the midfield just like Saka, and Martinelli trying to beat his man to get into the box like lungberg. While Henry floats around just like Jesus. Ben White joins to attack the wings, wile Zivchenko tucks into midfield to add numbers in midfield to help partey just like what Cole/Lauren did. Its AMAZING!!!!.. Basically, Arteta is following wenger's invicible Philosophy, which making it abit more tactically sharper the way Pep does it. This goes to show great footballing brain by Wenger, and how he could have won more trophies had the owners backed him with funds. His only strong team was the invincibles, after that he couldnt get a full strong squad on every position which means he could not challenge for the trophy, not becoz he was outdated or cannot cut it with the newer managers. He just didnt have the MONEY!!!.. Fu*king Kroenke's!!!! I have always been a Wenger IN guy, nd I will take Wenger back in a heartbeat if Arteta is no longer there.

Was an extraordinay team, full of prime players. But all this resume in 4 players, they makes all the difference in the pich. Bergkamp was the number 1, without him Arsenal could't do anything of that. Second Henry; he was the most deadly striker in the premier league, if you let him run or just a little piece of free space...well you are dead. Third Vieira; his physics capacity and his timing was essencial to keep the balance in the lines, and gives the chance to make a high pression. Forth Pirés; his inside runs brake the middle field and he can finish with a marvelous class. Also Henry played as left side-half in Juventus and Pirés as a wing in Marseille. So both know what they should do if they change positions on the pitch. It's like play with your Brother, you know him very well and you can read his mind LOL.

Every formation has their owns strength and flaws. What I could see the biggest strength or I could say, the advantage invincible team has, was the Arsenal Highbury field. The field was so much smaller. Arsenal team was so quick with their gameplay. Much stronger, faster, and greatest bond between players. They understood each other too well. The fans back then was so much nearer to the team. The atmosphere that we could not find at Emirates. If you did watch the documentary of the invincible, Arsenal players back then said they could know where their mates run or move without seeing them, even blind folded. Before opponent read their gameplay, opponent too late.
Formation of 4 4 2 is nothing new. Back then the era , 4 4 2 was the most famous formation. It is always easier to explain what a formation does. But the decisive factor is not the formation.

Then there was match like against Aston Villa where they turn 0-1 to 2-1 in last five minutes of match. That was the mentality of winners. Just one bad day... like against Watford and Invincible title disappear but one day, there will be team of demigods who will win Invincible title like Arsenal did in 03/04 season.

But Klopp was so smart that he used this situation as his advantage and Mane and Firmino were seeing much of the ball because they were completely unmarked. Now everybody figured out how Liverpool plays and they lost 4 games in row, because opposition now starred man making the full backs which is where Liverpool are very dangerous. Any team that is scared of loosing games can play for draws in games that they can win.... what really matters is how many points you accumulate at the end of the season. The current Liverpool team, Last year's Manchester City's team, Jose Mourinho's Chelsea and even last year's Liverpool runners up were far better than the invincibles of Arsenal. People forget that they needed a lot of luck to finish the season unbeaten. The invincibles got fewer points than all the teams i mentioned above! Facts are stubborn

I don't actually fully agree with this in-depth tactical analysis. Gilberto silva was an amazing player and from what I saw of arsenal, players like Pires and Henry were just a bit above that of Parlour, Anelka etc. They also had that bit of luck where some teams in previous seasons just missed out on that luck. I loved the team and some of the tactical analysis is correct. However sometimes it is mainly the fact that even though roughly the same tactics are employed, it is just that some key players are just much better/ more complete. I think what I am trying to say is, they just had better players that season. And I don't see Jens lehman or toure distributing quicker, if anything that side became more measured at the back and quicker in the final third..

I don't know why some Arsenal fans are having a go against Liverpool. This Liverpool team had lost just 1 match against Mancity last season. This season they so far only lost 1 match to Watford. Everyone should appreciate them. They were not invincible. But maintaining that level of performance (97 points with only 1 loss) and (82points out of possible 87 with only one loss) is not an easy thing. Dominating the league is a thing but dominating the league this way is another thing. We appreciate what Arsenal achieved in 2003/2004. Only 2 teams in PL era came close to that feat,Chelsea 2005/2006 and Liverpool 2018/2019.It means how difficult it is. But even Arsene said, it is not impossible to go undefeated in a season.
