  • A very popular song from 1906 that is a bit tonally different from my last tune. Thanks for clicking as always!

    I do love the banjo revival we've experienced over the past 20 -ish years. Clean picking, folk singing, excellent work!

    It's a fantastic version of a wonderful song, but we should talk as well about the singer. You have such a wonderful voice, and the facial expressions as you play adds so much to the story the song tells. Also, respectfully, you're gorgeous with a great fashion sense, and the coordination to play, sing, and tap the foot all at once!? Mad respect for the practice you've clearly put into your music. If there's a perfect youtube video this is it

    Great job, Rosie! Nothing else sounds like that period to me. It reminds me of the old 78s my parents used to play on the "crank phonograph" as my mother called it.

      Thank you! Totally agree on the uniqueness of this era, not for everyone but I'm a big fan. I learned this tune from one of those crank phonograph 78s haha. Sweet anecdote.

      Thanks! I picked up a Billy Murray 78 of it from 1906 and then later the 1928 Chris Bouchillon record which I took most my inspiration from.

    Looking at one of your replies has me wondering, do you have a good source for 78s near you? Best I can do in my area is just a Goodwill record book once in a blue moon. Those mostly cut off in the forties as the earliest though.

    • @roughhouserosie
      @roughhouserosie  11 месяцев назад +1

      From time to time I meet up with a 78 record club, but mostly antique shops and I often ask record shops if they got any in the back. Also if people have some stored away somewhere lol. Sometimes thrifts have good stuff but generally not often in my experience. I think a lot of it depends on area too, like it's easier for me to find 20s/30s hillbilly records but I think selection definitely differs based on where you are. Also I often give antique shops/record stores my number in case they get any 78s 😅

    • @mgrogian
      @mgrogian 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@roughhouserosie see, even most of my local antique shops get picked away at too fast for me to find anything outside of Herb Alpert LPs. Must live too close to the city, haha. Hadn't even considered giving them my number though, but I'm already broke most of the time, so who knows where I'd be if I got into the habit of finding interesting records on the regular 😂

    • @roughhouserosie
      @roughhouserosie  11 месяцев назад +1

      Lol most the time I don't pay much at all. People mostly try to get rid of them, it's a cheap hobby at least haha

    “Willie” (spelling?) also goes by the name John Thomas. Nod nod. Wink wink. This song sounds pretty close to classical banjo. Thanks! 🙂😎

      @roughhouserosie  11 месяцев назад +1

      Yep, luckily it's nothing of that sort in this tune lol. Thanks, been working on my classical banjo!
