I gave up mental health nursing in East London early 2019 because of heart breaking cutbacks and nobody appearing to care or noticing what’s happening. This movie puts that reality under a magnifying glass and connects the dots. Best movie I ever saw in my life but I can’t watch it again for years because it’s just too sad. Alejandro Morales we all do at some point in our life. It’s totally normal and it’s what makes the movie so relatable. People can relate to feeling sad and pathetic. Feeling beat down and angry. All these thematic elements seep into our own life just as much as they do this movie. It’s one of the reasons I relate to it so well, I’ve been made fun of, abused, socially isolated, all these things that made me feel made and made me hate people sometimes. It was such a touching movie and no one has illustrated my emotions better than this movie

I grew up walking those stairs, and I even had friends that lived where Arthur lives with his mom. Watching that was a trip. So many of us New Yorkers see Gotham City as our own. I LOVED Heath Ledger as the Joker, and it was hard to see the Joker looking like a circus clown, but damn Arthur seems so real. The whole thing.

Just watched The Joker.... Wow! Omg... What to say. That is the most poignant, startling relevant, truly brilliant piece of cinema in decades! I've loved Joaquin Phoenix for years & was in my top 10 actors but he just moved into the top 5. His performance is undeniably the most artistic, physically and emotionally difficult, charismatic, unbelievably epic performances I've seen. He absolutely deserves an Oscar. Hands down. Also, this movie brings harsh attention, and quite so, the mental illness epidemic in this Country. I know it's a movie based on a comic but this movie brilliantly coincides the issues in our system, with mentally ill people being overlooked and just swept under the rug. Our Government won't provide the resources for the people who need it. I think this movie is absolutely amazing. On so many levels. And by the by, I love Jack Nicholson & Heath Ledger as Joker, but Joaquin nailed it! Having the whole back story and his performance was just pure genius! I will watch again just to see his nuances he captured in the character. It's truly amazing. If he doesn't win the Oscar, I think it's rigged then... Cuz he went above & beyond. Makes me think of when he played Johnny Cash. Another brilliant job acting. Anyways, I hope everyone takes the time to watch this. It's difficult at times & I cried more then once cuz you really feel for him. It's a new twist to Joker. You have empathy for him yet you don't like what he does... Yet you understand. The bathroom scene right after his first kill is cinematic & acting brilliance in my opinion. Will go down as one of the best films ever made.

Most importantly, Joker has a self-justification in this, instead of just being bad. But I'm heretical. I prefer Nicholson's portrayal over Ledger's.

Todd Phillips didn't choose people to act as the characters he made for his movie, he chose people who already have the characters within them and gave them the chance to be their own shadow-self in this movie. Perhaps Todd is an empath who has done his inner shadow-work and it's super beneficial for his career as a movie director to present the audience a magnificent surealist show.

Todd Phillips wanted to make his first "film"....a deep, dark, and symbolic character focus. But in order to get people to watch it, it had to be a comic book- related movie.
According to him, that's how it went down. And also, as he says it was unintended, it ended up working anyways. Damn well, I might add. Maybe not so much for teens and comic book movie fans who can't pay attention to shit unless there's constant action....., but very much so for true cinephiles, film critics, and even psychologists around the world.
