This made me realize something. Later in the movie when Joker is running in Arkhym I thought his running technique was an odd choice. I just realised he ran like that because this character would be accustomed to running in large awkward shoes.
I thought the same thing! Also, in the very last scene, the footprints he left were also spread apart like he were wearing clown shoes. The attention to detail is everything in this movie.

K K certainly true that this joker gave us humanity, but the Killing Joke is based on a Joker with humanity as well. I’d also argue that there is a certain level of struggle in Leto’s Joker, although not as prominent.
Because this is not a story about joker, but about how a man becomes the joker. The most chilling part is that there is no joker, yet he can be all of us
Candypie 2010 tell me about it. This young couple used their phones through the movie in my row and eventually took a flash picture! Crazy kids with their fancy phones....
it seems you do not watch quality movies or your preferences are very specific. Countless directors put much thought into their filming, its not only a matter of idea's, its also a matter of execution. While the director is obviously vital, he does not normally take the whole project into his own hands.
Never in my life have I seen a non-horror movie that is so hard to watch. Arthur gets so much undeserved physical and emotional pain in this scene. And then he turns into the Joker, turning you as the viewer unable to feel for him any more, even though you want to. This movie is an emotional blender.
I was started getting emotional for Arthur when the kids snatched the sign, it got stronger as he ran then it hit me pretty hard when he was smacked then kicked like in elementary. When the flower cried I knew nothing was going to get better. I didn't know that was supposed to be him trying to positive. It crushed my soul.
MON Ahumada Well said man. This movie truly makes you sad/angry/upset at how mistreated Arthur is. It really gives you a different perspective as to WHY Arthur eventually “dies” and Joker is born in his place, the clown prince of crime. Just the sight of him laying there, in pain, ugh. I was gutted.
Todd proved himself to be a great director. Fully commited. Phoenix is just insane and hypnotic as Joker. I hope this gets Golden Globe and Oscar noms. Totally deserves it.
@@stevengonz agreed, Bohemian Rhapsody won 4 oscars and was bashed by critics. With Joker being the absolute masterpiece that it is, I'm certain it will win big!

@@manee9110 Well, Joaquin Phoenix's Joker run is sort of haphazard; contrast that with the way an action hero typically runs in a straight, focused way. The movie haunts me , the music is brilliant , Joaquin is astonishing , it's a unforgettable experience. It's a brilliant poetic movie. Mr. Philips , you're a genius. Mr. Phoenix , prepare your speech.
Joker is already a classic. Actually, after every movies Joaquin acted in, the movie became masterpiece and his related character became Joaquin's career-defining role. Walk the Line, We Own the Night, Gladiator, The Yards, Two Lovers, Her, The Master or now Joker. Amazing actor that has still many astonishing things to provide us with and that's great news.
Gladiator is one of my favorite films. The movies that try to portray real people like Walk the line always let me down because I always have the image of the real person it's about in my mind and never completely fall into the movie. With that said I still think it was a good movie and I think Joaquim Phoenix is a great actor. I think he better in that role then say Tom Hanks in his role as Mr. Rodgers!!!
I absolutely loved the last shot with the title card. The word “JOKER” imposing upon the screen so dominantly, queued beautifully with the thunderous notes of the music. Really haunting moment, sets the tone of despair for the rest of the film
This movie affected me in ways I wasn’t expecting. I saw it four days ago, and I can’t stop thinking about it. Phoenix is absolutely phenomenal. The score and the cinematography are hauntingly beautiful. Truly a tremendous movie.
Have to agree with you. I'm not one to watch many superhero/super-villain movies, but everyone knows the Joker. So, I went and saw it with my boyfriend and truly CANNOT stop thinking about this film. Joaquin was absolutely tremendous in this role.
I feel like a lot of people are talking about how great the movie is as a whole (and it is great, one of the best I’ve ever seen) but nobody is talking specifically about how beautiful the cinematography was. Like this was without a doubt the most beautifully shot movie I have ever seen.
Ikr, I very much appreciated the angles of some scenes, the slow close ups and fade outs that played so well into depicting exactly the emotions that the scenes wished to portray. In every shot I was stirred just the right amount of unsettled, intrigued, amused, and awed.. Overall, just brilliant.
I think he is referring to something that is a big movie, an actual blockbuster but still pure cinema, as in top notch breathtaking acting, photography and emotional impact. And I agree with him there. It's been a long time since a movie like that has been released. In the 90ies and before that it was a more regular thing when those kind of high quality movies that left you rattled and thinking about them for weeks were also blockbusters. Frankly, nowadays most movies don't leave an impression on me. I watch them and sometimes I realize the next day that I didn't even think about them at all the previous evening.
The whole movie, specially the first half, felt incredibly claustrophobic for me. I thought it was bc we were only following Arthur every scene and the amount of close shots there were, but i see that even little detail like having those buildings back there and not being able to see open sky contribute to the feeling
Daniela Sanabria yeah, looks like I’m not the only one who felt anxious during the film. I just felt this heaviness building up in my chest... I still feel it now hours later
No one taught arther that it’s ok to be sad. He didn’t need to smile if he didn’t want to. His mom always told him to he needs to put on a happy face, she never told him to be happy. I feel like it pressured him to hide his pain and sufferings
I've seen the movie twice already. I noticed so many new subtle things in my second viewing and couldn't believe the depth of this beautifully tragic and terrifying story. Phoenix is phenomenal and the cinematography...MY GOD the cinematography! Everything about this movie is gorgeous. Absolutely a must watch. Please go see it...without prejudice.

Every single times he laughed broke my heart, literally. Is it because “you need to keep your smile on whenever, whatever happens” ? He only laughed when he was nervous or crying, he didn’t cry, he laughed
If this film doesn’t win best film, best actor and best score... This film was a masterpiece, even the way his laugh slowly got better and more like the Joker laugh was a master stroke.
This movie is a great example of why cinema is considered the seventh art. I don't like to watch violent movies tbh, but this movie was amazing, I couldn't stop watching and it felt even short. I hadn't seen a movie so good in a long time.

I honestly did not notice the water coming out of that flower, that’s such a cool little detail that adds so much more to the scene. This whole movie is so awesome
tbh having seen it in cinemas, i think you could have gotten a more 'authentic' feel with a digital technique. the title in my (digital) cinema projection didn't look specially manual/chemical, looked like a bad digital title. but i appreciate the effort they went to.

*SPOILER* The sad thing is, the genuine smiles he gave us, when he was with Sophie, were all just an imagination. So he truly not once genuinly smiled. The Joker is a killer, a terrorist, an evil entity, but not in this movie, in this movie he is just the result of a failing society
*SUPER SPOILER* He is a reflection of society. The social programs being ditched, like how Wayne ditch joker's mom. Him asserting his authority on the talk show and murdering the host, like how Gotham asserted their authority of not being clowns, murdering the Wayne's.
In a comment i saw in other video, in the end the Joker in this movie is all that (" a killer, a terrorist, an evil entity"). The thing is that we only saw the vision of the Joker about his life. So, in a way, we became this movie´s Harley Quinn. Joker, somehow, create this "image" of himself being just a victim of a corrupt system, were bullys and injustice are the everyday sandwich. And, we fall for that. We all just connect with him and actually believe what you just said ("he is just the result of a failing society") In the end, Joker´s manipulates the audience just as he does in the comics.
@Geralt of Trivia All those movies are still fantasy thou. I mean, Joker is grounded in real life so much that everything about it is real in a sense. No flying batwings or superpowers. TDK is the most realistic after Joker imo.
It's such a shame that people are trying to turn this film into a scapegoat for causation of violence considering recent tension on things like gun violence and how particularly the US is blaming video games and "violent" media. It's sad because whilst stylised, this movie is an analysis of the sad realities that cause people to do questionable things, you empathise with him because everyone who has ever done anything bad descended to that space, they didn't start off there. All in all a great movie, had me thinking about it for a few days after viewing, very interesting.
Lastly we need stop saying gun violence. This is to suggest that that the gun is the criminal and not the person wielding the gun. When a person get stabbed with a knife we do not call that knife violence. When a person get hit by a car we don't call that car violence. When a person hangs themselves with a rope we do not call that rope violence. We need to recognise that a violent act against another person with a gun is just violence. The angry mob will say that gun violence is on the rise and getting out of hand so what us law abiding Americans should is let the government take our guns so when a criminal with a gun breaks into your house because he isn't going to listen to the law anywhere you better be ready to use your bare fists to beat his or her gun.
"He's still Joker. He's still seeing comedy in this moment of pain." By the end of the movie, the chaos is funny, we're fully inside the eyes of Joker. It's an astonishing character study of the descent into madness. #Joker

I became so obsessed with that Violin that appeared throughout the movie, runs chills. Edit: Cheers to everyone for the correction, it’s actually a Cello. My bad!
Ruminating15 I see what you mean, but personally I felt like it suited him well. It was during moments of when he truly felt himself and “free” despite the maleficent acts he made, he saw no consequence. I feel like music in general is what truly connected with him (as discussed by Todd) as a person but due to the torture and abuse he experienced as a child, that music only appears after retaliating his abuse instead of just generic happiness as you and I would experience - an eye for an eye. Therefore, giving a very unsettling and sadistic vibe, thus, The Joker.

If Joaquin Phoenix doesnt win an Oscar, for this career-defining role, than it must be rigged.
Miss C he will. Another win for the Joker
Oscars have been rigged for years I wouldn’t count on it
He won't, he's not a mediocre movie's POC protagonist and neither does he promote the mainstream Hollywood agenda
Hate to say it but he won't win an Oscar. The movies controversy alone solidified that.
If black panther can get nominated for best picture, how can we have faith in that system? It's become too political.
I like how much he cares, how much he thought about each individual scene. I think that’s why it was such a great movie.
What Phillips said about Arthur having music in his soul is so evident throughout the entire film. I'm still thinking about it. 5/5.
Agreed
Meh... only American media are trying to do that, and idiots who read/watch american media outlets and take them seriously
Americans you mean? Nowhere in whole wide world violence exist because of the movie. Only in USA
@@arjanpetersen that's right, only Americans caused 2 world wars. Did you know that Hitler was inspired by Call of Duty?
Im glad Todd Phillips is proud of this film. He did a fantastic job on writing/directing
John C. Fee
Which society abandoned you and made you Joker
John C. Fee yes it is lol
John C. Fee
Bang up job on the correcting xD
Please don't subscribe to@Juan Cortez Muro
@@JohnCFee Daruish likely speaks several different languages. I wouldnt be so quick to point out faults.
This movie deserves an Oscar, and Phoenix deserves Oscar for best male role.
Arthur get's jumped by 4 kids
Todd Phillips: "So this is one of my favorite shots in the whole movie."
So joker 😂
heres what it looks like in real life 😂 ruclips.net/video/FjmWNbZsgGU/видео.html
Four? I count five.
That's the joke.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
"You never really know someone until you see them run," sounds such a Joker thing to say haha, love it.
2016: dude I dont even know who todd phillips is
2019: oh yyyea Todd Phillips
The director is as good as his films! that is life for you...Todd became super famous among masses after his hangover series...
True, people should not judge a director so quickly. When he got the job everyone was saying "oh no not the guy who directed Hangover 3"
I remember him in Ali g I think? I definitely recognize him, and I know he directed the hangover movies
He was a NYC taxi driver in season 1 of HBO's Taxicab Confessions.
Due Date... he plays a pot dealer
This guy seems like a genuinely good director
"He's still Joker. He's still seeing comedy in this moment of pain." By the end of the movie, the chaos is funny, we're fully inside the eyes of Joker. It's an astonishing character study of the descent into madness.
#Joker
Yeeeeeaaaahh 😟😞 I enjoyed the ending a little too, too much 😅😳. I bust out laughing when he shot Murray and laughed again when he shot him a second time. I think there's much to what your saying (for meee) because I didn't laugh when he shot the 3 Douches of Wall Street. And I think that part was more violent and messy.
@@justadjustor8993 This is what I think, but I was waiting for enough time to share it... yesgregyes.com/jokers-punchline/#.XcQh4S2ZN0s
I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE. i was dying of laughter when he shot murray and when he was on top of the police car with everyone clapping
I like how humble Todd is. he realizes a lot of it he owes to Joaquin. and Joaquin seems to realize a bit of the same. two very talented men!
I can't believe this is the same director that did Old School and The Hangover.
I became so obsessed with that Violin that appeared throughout the movie, runs chills.
Edit: Cheers to everyone for the correction, it’s actually a Cello. My bad!
They were cellos but yes they were heartbreaking and really reflected Arthur's emotions.
Yeah man the music in this film made a big difference
It was actually a cello, and same for me.
It was a cello
Ruminating15 I see what you mean, but personally I felt like it suited him well. It was during moments of when he truly felt himself and “free” despite the maleficent acts he made, he saw no consequence.
I feel like music in general is what truly connected with him (as discussed by Todd) as a person but due to the torture and abuse he experienced as a child, that music only appears after retaliating his abuse instead of just generic happiness as you and I would experience - an eye for an eye. Therefore, giving a very unsettling and sadistic vibe, thus, The Joker.
How can the same director that put such detail and love into this movie go and make a sequel that destroys everything in it
i know at least with Terminator 3 you could understand why, but this makes no sense at all
@@AC-LING666 maybe they forced him to do that cuz the first movie has an idea of fighting against the media and the elites
@@KaiAl-d8o The first movie talk about how the society fail to take care of illness people, the more helpless. Arthur wanted to be cared since the beginning, he said himself that he's not political.
I wish he would’ve broke down that scene after the ambulance crash man it was gorgeous
He probably would a few months later at the time of the Oscars right now it's still running in theaters. He should also breakdown the last scene at the hospital.
and the scene where Arthur dances around in that bathroom
Zack Briggs the one after he kills the 3 guys on the subway
@@TheZackBriggs he did a video on it actually
@@TheZackBriggs hey that's actually available on some other youtube channel.
This movie made me so sad 😕 i could feel his pain and humiliation 😭😭😭
yes until the end when he finally gets his acceptance and sees his purpose. what a powerful scene that ending was. brought me to tears
@storm breaker yes. i mean we are talking about the JOKER here. Not just any character. Go watch any joker movie now after seeing this. It will feel different now. You know why hes so twisted and sick.
Dillon J Alot of people believe that everything that happens at the point of and after the car accident in the police car was in Arthur's head
@@Retrograde I know, which I find silly because this is a JOKER origin story.
I am with you. I send you a hug. 🤗
This movie gave me feels that no other movie has been able to give me within the last decade. I can't even describe how uncomfortable yet amazing it was.
Literally couldn't agree more
Joker, makes you uncomfortable but in an satisfying kind of way...
Try Parasite
@@TOSHIODS seen already. Great movie.
I've been obsessed with Joaquin phoenix since The Master. The Joker has to be his best performance, and my favorite movie he's in. I can't wait to see what he does next.
