What a lovely interview. I could understand a lot of it (not everything, because Dutch is different from Africaans) but it was clear: Amira is a very happy young woman and music is her passion. She will never become a pop-singer, but classical, musical and cross-over music is where her heart is. There is a Worldtour in the making (Europe, America and Australia), but Amira will first finish her school (this year that is). After the Worldtour she plans to study music and for music-teacher in Capetown. Music-teacher as a sort of "plan B", when her voice is going to crack in the (hopefully far) future.

*Translation from Mari Koch from Amira Facebook fangroup. If you don't understand Afrikaans then this can help you.* 😀🇿🇦 *- PART 1:*
[Panel: Dawie Roodt, Eloise Cupido, Leon Gropp, Corli Botha]
[Clip of Amira singing in Afrikaans: “Hosannah in the highest, Hosannah praise his name”]
Dawie: Wow! What kind of note is that?
Amira: Uhm, a high note. [General laughter]
Dawie: It is incredible… Amira: Thank you
Dawie: I mean what a wonderful talent. It is lovely to have you here with us this morning.
Amira: Thank you, I’m very glad to be here.
Dawie: In person. And of course it is lovely to have all of you here. We are hanging out now with the girl with the BIG voice as you have heard, Amira Willighagen, definitely an incredible talent. We are going to enjoy her visit. In 2020 we chatted to her online, and it is great to finally meet her in person. Hello Eloise.
Eloise: You know, I am a bit surprised, not so much about the high note, but about you, because in my mind you are still the little girl I saw on Holland’s Got Talent and now you are sitting here in front of me, a young lady. Welcome! I hope you will enjoy your visit with us a lot. We are all madcaps, I apologise…
    Amira: Oh, me too…
Eloise: Oh, then you will fit in beautifully, welcome madcaps, and…[she announces the rest of the programme.]
Corli: Good morning colleagues, [to Amira] you are very welcome here - I prepare the food, I can’t sing, but I CAN cook.
Leon Gropp: Amira, welcome, I’m also going to chat with you, I am looking forward to it, and I hope you enjoy the day with us, I am certain you shall.
Amira: Definitely, it is already such fun.

*Translation from Mari Koch. - PART 2:* 🇿🇦
[The conversation moves on to other subjects.]
Corli Botha: Now we are going to watch a clip of Amira Willighagen, then you will understand why she is our guest today.
[Clip: Amira singing Nella Tue Mani]
Eloise: As per usual I‘m first, but I’m in raptures… Amira Willighagen, it is so nice to have you here with us today and to listen to your talent… The Internet is a wonderful thing, RUclips and all the things available, don’t you think?
Amira: Definitely, it is a very important platform to ensure that everybody experiences the talents we have received from above.
Eloise: Absolutely. Okay, let’s begin at the beginning - we saw you on Holland’s Got Talent in 2013. I can’t believe it, it is but a moment ago, almost ten years ago… Hmmm, you say you were born in Holland and you still have your Dutch accent.
Amira: Yes, I still have it. [Photos of Amira as a baby]
Eloise: And your mother and your father? I think your mother is a South African and speaks Afrikaans.
Amira: Yes, my mother was born here in South Africa and then she went to the Netherlands to au pair and met my father, then she did not want to return [to South Africa].
Eloise: Then you and your brother were born et cetera… Ah, wonderful, so [photo of the family] your whole family is actually musical…
Amira: Yes, my father plays the organ, piano, and accordion; my mother plays the violin and recorder and my brother plays the violin. When I was quite small, I felt a little useless because I played no instrument [photo]. I used to dance a little or sell cookies, then I decided I wanted to be part of this wonderful musical family. I decided to to sing because I always felt attracted to classical music, as it was always playing in our house and when I was only a twinkle in my mother’s eye she was always playing classical music.
Eloise: This goes to show how we absorb these things fundamentally. I think you didn’t even realise that you were guided in this direction.
When did you come to South Africa, how old were you?
Amira: I was thirteen years old. I arrived here like a “snake” [reference obscure] in Grade 8.
Eloise: Heavens, what disillusionment as you arrived here where the school system is different from that in the Netherlands..
Amira: Yes, it is somewhat different.
Eloise: And could you speak Afrikaans before you came here?
Amira: Not very well. My mother used to speak a mixture of Dutch and Afrikaans in our house and we often made “pap” and so kept the Afrikaans tradition alive. When I came here [photo ] I spoke a mixture of Afrikaans and Dutch [photo of both including and my Afrikaans teacher said, Wow, we have a lot of work to do…
Eloise: There are a some people who, several generations later, still speak a mixture of Afrikaans and Dutch, and you did well by coming here. And was it difficult for you to adjust?
Amira: Actually it was OK because we still had a lot of family on my mother’s side here in South Africa. We came here for at least eleven years, sometimes twice a year, on holiday and we were so used to the country, we had actually fallen in love with it. My brother and I did not really want to go back home because we felt so much at home here.
Eloise: Have you obtained your South African citizenship or are you still a Dutch citizen?
Amira: This is actually a very interesting question. We struggled for a “short” while - for three years - to obtain citizenship for me, but I have received my South African citizenship a few weeks ago! [photo of Amira holding flag]
Eloise: Congratulations! And welcome here, I’m sorry for Holland, they will never get you back! What is the best thing about living in South Africa? You have the option to go to the Netherlands, so what keeps you here?
Amira: I will always love both countries very much, I have double citizenship and I miss a few Dutch things like the bike lanes - and there are no bottles - the thing I love most in South Africa is the people. The people are as warm as the weather, the culture, the barbecues, their friendliness, the family, as well as the school system. What shocked me a lot was that I was the only Christian in my school and here there are still Christian schools in a community where one can feel at home. Therefore, I have really fallen in love with the culture of this country.
Eloise: You precious little person, you are going to pull a few heartstrings with those words. I will continue this conversation later, we are going to continue with other things now.

*Translation from Mari Koch. - PART 3:* 🇿🇦
Eloise: I am going to talk some more with Amira. Amira Willighagen, a beautiful surname - Okay: How old were you when you began singing?
Amira: I was 7 when I began singing, but I was 9 years old when I appeared on stage.
Eloise: When you took part in Holland’s Got Talent, didn’t you feel afraid - I know grown-ups who won’t sing on stage in front of people?
Amira: Actually, the only reason I wanted to take part in Holland’s Got Talent is because I always watched it on TV and thought it was so cool to watch people on a small box. So I thought how cool would it be if my friends saw me on a box - it’s the only reason why I took part and then it all happened so fast and then I won and I went - Huh? - so I did not really realize that I had received such a great talent from God till the moment when they announced that I had won the competition…
Eloise: You were 9 years old, did they allow you to be a child, or did the wild carousel start turning where you just had to perform on stages around the world?
Amira: That is a very good question, and here I want to thank my mother and father for keeping my feet on the ground all the time. I went to school like any normal child, primary school, high school and I care a lot about my studies. - like biology, but they always took care to let me remain a child, to play, retain my privacy, and not perform too often. It was important to us to let me remain a normal child, to share my talent, yet remain a child.
Eloise: You also won a few awards?
Amira: Yes, it is rather great [photo of Amira with the 3 Coleske awards]
Eloise: And you also performed online during Covid…
Amira: Covid constituted a difficult time for many artists who used ot make their income through their art [photo of Amira] and they could not perform anywhere with specatators watching, [newspaper photo of Amira] and one could only stream online concerts with videos and cameras and when you finished singing, it was very quiet.
Eloise: Before you leave, soon you are going to turn eighteen and then you give have a few very special performances. Tell our viewers about these please. What are you planning?
Amira: [photo of Amira’s concert notice] For my 18th birthday I am planning to hold live and streaming concerts. People can attend the live concerts, but it is sold out unfortunately. It will be streamed on 27 March, my birthday, and what I want to achieve with this is to showcase what I have learned during the past 9 years - at first I could not read music, now I can, do dance and drama and read music notes, and sing in various genres. Streaming online provides a very large platform for showing your talent.
Eloise: I am very, very glad we could chat and I wish you good luck with your career and your parents. You are a great example of what one can achieve with talent and a good basis. Thank you for this visit and we are going to give some of your CD’s away after this.
Eloise: We are giving 5 of Amira’s CD’s - With All My Heart - away.
      Dawie: She is just beautiful…

*Translation from Mari Koch. - PART 4:* 🇿🇦
[Clip of Amira singing Amazing Grace]
Leon Gropp: Good gracious, but this is beautiful, do you enjoy listening to yourself like that - sometimes? Does it seem beautiful to you?
Amira: Sometimes it feels a little strange to watch, and listen to yourself singing, but, it is nice and interesting.
Leon: But you definitely cannot listen to it without thinking that this is beautiful, and we think it is very beautiful.
Amira: Thank you very much, I am very grateful for the talent I have received.
Leon: You started early, you said at 7 years, and at 9 on the stage [photo of Amira on screen] I was on stage at age 9 also, I sang a silly song, great art…
      Amira: Very difficult indeed…
Leon: Have you been singing opera since then, did you already practice singing opera from that time on?
Amira: Yes, RUclips is a great thing, I just go to RUclips…
Leon: We did not have such things when I was young. So there is a lot of vocal exercises and technical things you have to do every day of your life in preparation. I see that you are also going to start with Royal Schools Gr 7?
      Amira: Yes
Leon: Royal Schools is also a challenge, isn’t it?
Amira: Music is very challenging, any art subject is, because it contains practical and theoretical elements which have to run concurrently. A lot of things are involved in music, it is not only the technique of how to sing - the emotional aspect comes by itself, but translating the music on paper into an emotional experience for the public requires an understanding of the music and knowledge of what you are singing. There is a lot of things involved in any form of art.
Leon: For sure, it requires hard work. I remember that you were practicing during the lockdown period and it forms part of your daily life. Except for Dawie [Roodt, the main panellist], do you have some idols in the world of singers?
Amira: Naturally Dawie is number one, he is high up there [pointing up] - but number two definitely is Andrea Bocelli because like me, he sings in various genres of which he is very fond, and he has such a beautiful warm voice. But one of my dreams has always been to sing with Celine Dion…
Leon: But you have already performed with a lot of well-known performers: Andre Rieu, Patrizio Buane, [photo of Amira and Andre Rieu], in our country - Jannie Moolman and Andre Schwartz [photo Amira and Buane], Corlea - she sings beautifully - [photo of Amira in yellow dress], Paul Potts, Helmuth Lotti, [photo] - How did it feel to perform with these big names, was it like a dream to you?
Amira: It is like a dream because one sees these people on TV and it feels, not intimidating, but they have received such a great talent and they impress on TV, but then one meets them backstage and they are the most wonderful, normal people sharing a bag of Simba chips backstage and it is really just as wonderful to meet them.
Leon: But you would probably not eat a Simba chip before a performance, do you prepare a special potion before a performance, or do you just go and sing, do you warm up all day long?
Amira: I try to save my voice somewhat, but before I sing I shall warm up with specifically a lot of tea with honey - very tasty.
Leon: It is lovely to talk to you and we are watching your career intently and “Ontbytsake” fully support you. Thank you for visiting us.
      Amira: Thank you very much.

@@AmiraWillighagenFan , I cannot possibly thank you enough for these four English translation segments!!! They were WONDERFUL to read! They have given me even more insight into Amira's character, her clear Christian values, her poise, elegance, charm, the outward manifestation of her inward joy, and the astounding intelligence, thoughtfulness, and well-spoken manner in which she converses and interacts with adults several years older than she (only 17 here)! I would love to know her I.Q., but more important than that is the stability of her character, her level-headed common sense, her sense of propriety & etiquette, her feminine purity, and her highly moral foundational Christian values! Truly, her name "Amira" means "Princess"! The Lord God Almighty has, indeed, blessed her -- and blessed us with her!
