Toyota knows the Tundra is bulletproof reliable that is why they make incremental changes to it. If ain't broke, don't fix it aka make subtle changes.
@@rockymountainbeerguy5656 I dont think they will. Parking sensors are a major turnoff to people who offroad (this trucks market). They significantly raise the price of bumper repairs
So, my 2018 Tundra SR5 TRD Off Road (Canadian Spec) already has power drivers seat and automatic LED headlights. It's definitely missing push button start and Android Auto, although those aren't deal breakers (The Entune system really sucks though).

I'd buy the tundra specifically for the tried tested and true aspects of it . Solid super reliable powertrain. No frills interior tech . This all means I'll still be happy with the solid reliability years down the road
Toyota sells the tundra as a half ton truck but it’s underpinning are 3/4 ton. unlike ford Chevy and ram which use fully boxed frame Toyota uses a triple Tex frame meaning fully boxed up front from the Bumper to cab and then for the cab it is double open C channel and then from the end of the cab to the rear bumper is just an open C channel and Toyota uses that to help with ride compliance.
Yup, We pull 6,000 Lbs + Camper and our Tundra Pro hasn't let us down. I'm so happy towing with this package that I'm not changing a thing. We live in the north west mountains, We pulled through severely bad storms, crazy winds and passing semis pulling triples at 85 mph in the flatlands and I love our truck camper setup. Our small setup also let's us take some very bad roads and camp where most travelers can't. Today, I'm looking for a new truck, but I don't want to sale my 2012 Tundra. We are thinking about 3/4 ton or just getting a newer Tundra...just for the larger gas tank, makes it a good idea, lol. :) Thanks for all the advice, your always spot on with your towing experience and good safe advice for travelers, please keep up the good work!
13:50 The blank spot under the center console next to the two power outlets is where they put the heated seat controls in Canadian Trucks. 13:53 the blank spot by the steering column (next to the tow/haul button) is where they put the park sensor button on so-equipped trucks (my Canadian Spec 2018 TRD off Road has both heated seats and front/rear parking sensors).

Great review~!! I bought my 2019 Tundra TRD Pro about a week -10 days ago and I couldn't be happier~! I absolutely loved my '07 Tundra CrewMax that I traded in for it (a little premature since it had only 130k miles on it), but I'm loving this TRD Pro package. I'm a total Toyota fan for life~!
One very good feature about my 08 Tundra is I have the pink slip. I don’t need to get a new whatever because, unlike the domestics, it doesn’t break down.
Thanks for the review. That is a nice looking truck. I previously towed a 6200 lbs travel trailer with a 2015 F150 ecoboost and now a Tundra. The sway is much improved with the Tundra. I am thinking the extra 1000+lbs curb weight has something to do with it. And Yes! the v8 sounds sooo much better
The blank spots that you mention are for features only offered on the Canadian market, like the one next to the USB/AUX port is the heated seats and the other one to the right of the steering wheel is the parking sensor. They wouldn't put blank plugs for no reason makes no sense lol You usually see it in lower trim packages where only the higher trim have that feature. The Canadian TRD Pro's also come with BSM and factory spray in bed liner at no extra cost.
Beautiful tundra l hope to buy a tundra soon. I love Toyota and lexus vehicles and didn't any other brand. My lexus ls430 2001 has 303000 miles. Tundra go a million miles.
A proud owner of a 2021 TRD Pro double cab, and I bought it at the end of 2020 so I got a great deal on it. Bottom line, the best value on the market hands down is the Tundra. People complain about the mpg, but the entry costs to get an equally equipped F-150 is going to be around $14,000 more plus twin turbo maintenance costs, and you'd have to drive 110,000 miles to get your entry costs back over the Tundra. Don't even get me started on the repair costs of an F-150 vs a Tundra.
The Tundra really need a major update. It's not about " if it ain't break, don't fix it ", it's about innovation. Improve it to make it even better than what it is right now is what people are asking for. There's always room for improvement.
Yup, i put three full gas cans (15 Gal ) in the bed of the truck on our last camping trip in Utah.... I Love my Tundra, but Toyota needs to get there act together! Thanks, good topic!
I feel it doesn’t need parking sensors because it’s an off road truck and that is annoying off road. I know some trucks you can turn that feature off but just another thing to replace if you hit the bumper off-road. I realize this truck will never see it’s full potential off-road so the sensors would be needed. Great Review as always. I appreciate you being unbiased and just give the facts! The best way to review. Thank you.
Got my 2019 1974 edition could of got the pro, since I’m a hunter guy like to go off-roading. When I thought about it I very disappointed on my first choice. Might trade my in for the pro..
Great coverage of the Tundra Pro. There are definite trade offs between the PRO and my 2019 Limited. All those blanks are fill with switches, the heat/air is automatic, etc. But at the time I bought mine, they were not available. I would love to get the shock package, but the standard shocks on the Limited are not that bad, just a bit harsh on sharper bumps. The 38 Gallon tank is really nice, and I am averaging around 16+MPG . Interior on the PRO is much like the standard SR, but with the extra money spend on suspension and wheels/tires.
3urfe v8 from the Land Cruiser, 4.30 gears, and a SOLID drivetrain. Massive rotors, beefy axles, large ring gear. They are just great "trucks". My Dad is on his second Tundra and loves them. Previously he was a lifelong Ford owner.
I'm struggling to understand why Toyota would market this as their top feuxoff-roader but not even offer a locking rear differential. I believe that option is available on everything the competition makes, often including even base models.
Awesome review. Its 2024 and Im leaning on these older Tundras vs the 22+ V6 Turbo no thanks. Crazy thing is Toyota resale value is near msrp! See a 2019 voodoo blue 67k for $45k! Might pull the trigger! Im in Cali.
I have a 2017 TRD Pro and it just works. Simple and lots of inexpensive parts since it’s been around for a while. New radio with Apple car play = 350$. No biggie.
I just got a ‘19 Tundra TRD Pro, I had an ‘18 Sport. I love this truck. Can’t figure out why the apple/android play is a common “upgrade” people discuss. A diff locker is an upgrade I care about.
Is gas really that bad compared to other trucks really? The only thing that’s not letting me decide on a tundra is because of this. Since it has a humongous gas tank, does it level out compared to other trucks?
S_J_P that’s what it’s for, driving the hell out of it. When you are dirty af from the job site and you get in your truck there are two things you need, one is that your truck starts right up and second that you aren’t worried about ruining the soft leather or Alcántara interior. It’s a working man’s truck.
Hi question for you I just bought the 2019 Tundra TRD PRO thought was 38gallons tank but I only filled @29 gallons what’s going on is this false advertisement?
Surprised the TRD Pro version more stripped down than the Limited true. My 2011 Double cab limited has power passenger seat and other whistles and bells. TRD off road package is good enough for off road with the Bilstein shocks.
The Tundra has had the adjustable headlight height since at least 2010 because my 2010 Tundra has it. The only other truck I know has it is the Nissan Titan XD. The non-XD Titan may have it too, I just don't know for certain.
Please Toyota put back those driver side grab handles back in. Some with bad knees need it. Not a fan of grabbing the steering wheel. Otherwise not a bad truck. All Toyota vehicles I've owned started everyday on the first try until I sold it usually past 300k miles point. No transmission or engine issues. Nada, zilch and zero. A boring, no drama reliable truck. On their new model for 2021 I hope they throw down the gauntlet and just incorporate some form of it's Lexus hybrid system where it'll travel around town for 25 miles then increase fuel mpg to 25 at least. If any company has the ability to bring all the technological know-how together into vehicle it's Toyota. Great review.
"When we do night driving I'll show [the adjustable headlights] to you" This is the full review, is there a separate other video you are gonna do on this one?
Drive all the other half tons with the big engines. You'll be surprised how all the others don't get what the EPA rates them at, then the Tundra gets better than what they're rated at. Real world MPG numbers are within 2-3 mpg for all of them when comparing similar power output engines and similar driving styles.
if ure worried about MPGs you really shouldn't be thinking about a truck, they all burn gas horribly, and their parts and services are that much higher. To play the game you gotta pay the price.
@@pesomistic7656 respectfully I disagree. Yes, there is a understanding that if you buy a truck then you will get worse fuel mileage. But there is no way that these trucks (acually all manufacturers) with it being 2019 are getting the same mileage as years ago. They all should be way better then what they are and I feel that we should expect more from them all. As consumers I feel we shouldn't just accept the BS that the truck manufacturers are giving us. We should expect & demand more. These trucks are getting into crazy selling prices. Yes, there capability has increased but the technology is out there for manufacturers to increase the mileage if they really really wanted to. It is up to us as a consumers to be ok and willing to pay the price for the technology and accept the technology as it might not be a big V8 that we get. So let's all embrace the technology and demand the continued reliability but its time for way better fuel mileage. I will pay for the new technology if its advancements that make sense. I am ok with less interior wizzy technology but I just want a truck that keeps up with the times and really surprises us and the competition. Toyota please put your money and technology into the engine, drivetrains and transmissions new tech to keep your reliability but embarrass the other domestic truck manufacturers. I really want a Tundra but I won't buy one that gets that crappy of fuel mileage. I will keep my old truck because it's not broken and what would I be gaining. The new one is well just newer with new warranty. I want capability and fuel mileage again in 2019 that is not to much to ask for. • Toyota if your listening... get your fuel mileage to 27 to 33 mpg and then you will have my attention. I will order a new one then. Just my 2 cents.
I’m looking forward to all the “trade-ins” that will become available in the used car section of the dealership once people start upgrading to the 2020 (present) or even 2021 (next year) model Tundras. Should give me the time to finish driving my Chevy into the dirt (hopefully it’ll last another 12-24 months).
It doesn’t have a rear locker but it does have auto LSD and applies breaking to the slipping wheel. Just like a McLaren does. Cheaper and lighter that way.
That payload is rediculously low. My 1991 4x4 Toyota pickup is rated for about 400 more lbs of payload even though it's a compact 1/4 ton truck. I understand why this particular truck is rated so low but it's still shocking.
The payload is awful low. I think my 2006 Tacoma is about the same and it's rated to tow 6500 pounds. It's a deal breaker for my next truck. Payload would need to be at least 1500.
I want one in black. Beautiful truck. The 2020 FINALLY kills the horrid Entune audio system and adds the more basic amenities like auto seat adjusters. Although, in a weird utilitarian way people have really appreciated the Spartan feel of the Tundra and Tacoma.
As a very tall man, 6’6” I can tell you that the Tundra is not as comfortable with front leg room as the F150. This truck would easily outpace the F150 if they moved the front seats back another 3 inches. There’s too much space in the backseat.
Great job to Toyota for what they have done with this truck. Ur missing the point this truck is meant to compete against the over priced and over hyped Ford Raptor Off Road. The fact that it makes a nice daily driver is a real plus. All for a lot less money than a Raptor. If you want a real truck this is it.

Awesome review. Its 2024 and Im leaning on these older Tundras vs the 22+ V6 Turbo no thanks. Crazy thing is Toyota resale value is near msrp! See a 2019 voodoo blue 67k for $45k! Might pull the trigger! Im in Cali.
Love mine simple and reliable !!!
Love the color. It’s like the Miami Blue that Porsche offers. I’d like it on my Ram 2500.
Toyota guy here, but now I own a Ford F-150 Raptor because I just couldn’t resist that beast!!!
That’s exactly what I’m considering. Love my 2012 Tundra but the raptor is a beast and has a lot more innovation.
Wish they would add the inside creature comforts. Seat warmers, remote heated steering wheel start jbl
Nice review. Can’t wait to get my hands on one. Beautiful. Thanks.
Can you buy an amber or yellow rigid lens and replace that clear lens? It looked like it had screws to take the lens off??
I have a 2017 TRD Pro and it just works. Simple and lots of inexpensive parts since it’s been around for a while. New radio with Apple car play = 350$. No biggie.
2020 it gets Apple CarPlay and Android Auto - all of Toyota is getting that
You'll be surprised how expensive the parts are even if it's been around for a while. I'm not talking about discount prices.
I just got a ‘19 Tundra TRD Pro, I had an ‘18 Sport. I love this truck. Can’t figure out why the apple/android play is a common “upgrade” people discuss. A diff locker is an upgrade I care about.
I like the color of that thing and the full row down back window is pretty nice.
Really need a desile motor. The twin turbo v8 out of the 200 series would be good for it.
Apple CarPlay, locking rear dif, power passenger seat and I’ll buy one.. not much to ask
Headlight adjustability was available in my 2012 Rock Warrior.
Is gas really that bad compared to other trucks really? The only thing that’s not letting me decide on a tundra is because of this. Since it has a humongous gas tank, does it level out compared to other trucks?
Outdated or not....I would still drive the hell out of it.
7:56 no front & back parking sensors but it has fromt foglight. how is that even make it better? LOL
I love the color I have Ford F-150 blue Shelby nice color
Tundra is very nice. the question is what kind of watch are you wearing )
Hamilton King Suba
Nice truck. I agree that all trucks should have tow mirrors stanard.
Tow mirrors suck, these mirrors should extend out
Tow mirrors do extend out. Some are electric and others are manually done. Duh!
You use blank spot if you are installing extra lights
Shocked they didn’t put a locker in it. Coming from a TRD Off Road Tacoma that is a big deal to me.
"When we do night driving I'll show [the adjustable headlights] to you" This is the full review, is there a separate other video you are gonna do on this one?
I'm waiting for you to review the 2020 Nissan Titan gas V8.
I like how the brake rotors just barely fit into wheels love having minimal gaps
Love the truck but I just can't do the mpg.
I think its more of a race truck then offroad, I mean anything with Trd at the end of it is made for the road then the mud
Drinking game: every time he says "this truck"
Great video! Is this FL or TX?
Though I'm all in for "If it ain't broke don't fix it" but that low mpg is just a deal breaker.
Drive all the other half tons with the big engines. You'll be surprised how all the others don't get what the EPA rates them at, then the Tundra gets better than what they're rated at. Real world MPG numbers are within 2-3 mpg for all of them when comparing similar power output engines and similar driving styles.
My 2013 F-150 with 5.0 average is 14 and I drive like Grandma, keep my rpms below 2000. Highway I cannot get more than 18mph going by the speed limit.
if ure worried about MPGs you really shouldn't be thinking about a truck, they all burn gas horribly, and their parts and services are that much higher.
To play the game you gotta pay the price.
Yeah.... my Corvette z06 on my channel gets about 15mpg on avg.
I might just throw the thing away 🙄🙄🙄
Good review. Deciding between this and a titan pro 4x
Bought a 2018 trd. Only complaint is the squeaking that startled some here in the dash or front puller area. Painful.
No rear lockers
love the truck but hold off till 2020
Same. It depends on what Toyota comes out with. They come out swinging and they can equal or better the Ram Power Wagon I might consider Toyota.
It doesn’t have a rear locker but it does have auto LSD and applies breaking to the slipping wheel. Just like a McLaren does. Cheaper and lighter that way.
And if you want to lay down some 11's just hold the TC button down for 5 seconds and both rear tires will spin freely
That payload is rediculously low. My 1991 4x4 Toyota pickup is rated for about 400 more lbs of payload even though it's a compact 1/4 ton truck. I understand why this particular truck is rated so low but it's still shocking.
Gorgeous color
The payload is awful low. I think my 2006 Tacoma is about the same and it's rated to tow 6500 pounds. It's a deal breaker for my next truck. Payload would need to be at least 1500.
I want one in black. Beautiful truck. The 2020 FINALLY kills the horrid Entune audio system and adds the more basic amenities like auto seat adjusters. Although, in a weird utilitarian way people have really appreciated the Spartan feel of the Tundra and Tacoma.
Subbed, great review. Also, we're from the same town lol.
I’m still confused why we should only tow 6000 pounds though
Awesome color!
does the 2019 tundra trd pro come with front and rear sway bar?
No
As a very tall man, 6’6” I can tell you that the Tundra is not as comfortable with front leg room as the F150. This truck would easily outpace the F150 if they moved the front seats back another 3 inches. There’s too much space in the backseat.
Great video. Very informative. What's your average mpg?
9
Also the rear diff has a kind of werid type of traction system it acts kinda like a solid diff but isn't
Phantom096 e
Best looking 1/2 ton on the road.
I'm from the future.
Toyota is getting rid of the V8 😢
Only one problem! No rear locking diff for a off-road truck!! NO GO FOR ME!
@Jack Z O yes I will! I go off roading all the time!
@Jack Z And why they offer it on the Tacoma and 4runner TRD Pro but not the Tundra? Toyota missing the mark on this one!
