I guess i'm old school but I just want a truck that has a good heater, good air conditioning for the drive home after a long day, decent sound system & 4x4 so I can actually make it home.
Glad you guys were able to review a truck doing "truck stuff". Or, really, what people use trucks for 90% of the time. I do like the simplicity of this one, as opposed to the other 3 packing in the features that will eventually just break, or confuse. This has 3 hvac dials. Perfect, dead easy.
@@jx906 So the Camry won the Baja1000 for last few years ahead of the Raptor in the stock class. Impressive. Guess those Camry's whoop Raptors and the big 3. Also the first manufacturer to send their truck to be benchmarked in the J2807 towing standard while the big 3 refreshed their models to not be caught lying about their tow rating. Impressive.
wlr1589 Can you tell me how the mpg is ? I’m not looking for 24 mpg but anything like 17 and I’m sold. Plus eventually I would need a truck since I want to live in the country side and maybe potentially move my tiny house.
ZEROKOOL-20 Don’t get a Tundra if you’re concerned about MPG lol. They’re literally the WORST. And if you live in the countryside, get a truck that comes with a rear locker (the Tundra doesn’t). Go with an F150 or Silverado.
I have a ‘13 Tundra I use for towing a travel trailer. It does that well, but it’s also a comfortable daily driver. The most reliable big truck out there. 👍🏻
Traded in my '14 Sierra Denali for the TRD Pro. After barely dodging a $6k repair that was covered under warranty (broken rocker) and fixing multiple other known issues (air conditioning, vacuum pump, broken stupid vibrating seat, heated seats stopped working, wheel corroded and wouldn't hold air, started leaking water at the headliner over the drivers seat)... it was time for a new truck. Simple was the name of the game and the TRD Pro was perfect for my needs. Strong resale, super comfortable ride, utilitarian interior, reliable, sounds great and I added heated seats for $400 from a local shop that work fantastic. This was all after owning my GMC, driving a 5.0 F-150 XLT for a week while it was in the shop (very nice but a little bland). It might not be the truck for everyone, but it fit the bill for me and I love it. Yuri and Jacob do a great job, thanks for all the entertainment and great info!!
I’m 20yrs old, hard work and saving up has let me get a 2012 Toyota Tundra with 54k miles! Best thing I’ve gotten so far, I had a Mazda 3 before but this is the best decision I’ve made.
I have this exact truck and I love it!!! I come from having a 2000 Jeep Wrangler TJ which was awesome but after 14 years of owning it, time for an upgrade glad I waited 2 months for this badass truck. The color is way better in person I can't tell you how many compliments I get every day from the color it's just bad ass looking. Thanks for posting LOVE THE STRAIGHT PIPES vids you guys are amazing!!!
TRD PRO: The trim you NEED when you live in the suburbs and help your neighbor take his old lazy boy to the dump once a year. SR5 RWD: The trim you NEED when you are hopping city medians, driving on shitty gravel roads, and hauling a fuckton of tools and junk
All sacrificed so the vehicle will last longer. The 2020 line of Toyota trucks with have apple carplay and android auto along with semi autonomous driving.
Jack Z i love the 70 series LC bc theres nothing like it, I would have no criticism about the 70 if they brought it to the US except for maybe price. But in terms of full size trucks theres so much competition out there that Toyota really needs to step up their game. Hopefully 2020 will be better for safety and technology.
Nice job guys....I really enjoyed this review. It helped with my decision to buy a Tundra, but I went Platinum not Pro. My first Toyota and first full size truck.
@Jack Z others can afford nicer and more luxurious vehicles than just a "Toyota" price doesnt always matter.. I wouldnt pay $50-$55K for a bland Tundra TRD "Pro" but I'd pay $70K for a Raptor
@Jack Z If you read carefully and have atleast half a working brain to put together what I said, which isn't very hard, I clearly say price doesnt always matter as there are features in the Raptor that blow the Tundra out the park. The Raptor just looks miles better, sounds better, handles better, and isn't some cheap feeling, corner cutting, mostly plastic truck that's overpriced (the Tundra)
That's my truck - '17 Tundra Trd Pro in Barcelona Red. And I love it. I put 35's on it and No matter what everyone will tell you, this is only 1/2 ton from factory that fits 35s
@@humbertorubi4947 I disagree. Your arguement was what most people do with it not what it is capable of. That's like saying a wrangler sucks offroad because most people never take them offroad. Poor argument to say the least. The Raptor is a capable 1/2 ton.
You know, I felt the same way about the most of Toyota’s lineup in Q1 2018. Toyota tends to make one design that they know will age well and make minor changes to it as time goes on. They did the same with the previous gen Corolla and Rav4 as well as the current Tacoma, Tundra, and Highlander. It’s like they design a “one-size fits all” vehicle per segment and let it ride. Tundras still sell well for the company and honestly. At the end of the day, while the Tundra is old - they didn’t have as many technology scandals/failures as the other companies. Also, they don’t sell in volume like the F150. The F150 sells so well partly because Ford keeps it’s updated knowing that they get their money back and then some. Toyota can’t Garuntee that with the Tundra.
Yes it is 2019 VOODOO BLUE Toyota Tundra Trd Pro 5.7L v8 4wd crew cab short bed 13-17 Ultimate Compact Sporty Cup holders Rear Window Gauge Clusters Sunroof Srceen Off Road Halfton Truck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Except the frame isn't all that tough. It twists easily. I'm an import fan but the big 3 offer better products when it comes to rigidity. Mechanically however this Tundra is hard to beat because of it's simplicity.
I have an 08, built here in the greatest state ever, lifted on 35s, and it sees a minimum of 10 miles of off road every single day since it does double work as a daily around the ranch and town as well as weekly trips to Houston. It’s stupid easy to swap the display to get CarPlay and such, it also gives all readings and can show you what error code is happening for check engine, maintenance ect. It can also adjust the speedo for different size tires. It has over 300k miles and hasn’t needed any major maintenance except for a new radiator (tire flew up from the road and cracked it) Needless to say its an amazing truck and I would definitely recommend it
lowell a it will not be. The “special” colors are 1 year only. They have generally made the “special” color a a available on other Tundras in subsequent years so it may be available. Just not on the Pro. 2020 colors will be normal white, black, magnetic gray(they’re adding a third normal color option) and the special color will be army green. Although they haven’t shown the actual color yet.
I own a 2017 Toyota TRD Pro after owning a 2013 F-150 Lariat FX4. No looking back. I’ll only ever own Toyota trucks from here on out. Everything about it is better. Sure it doesn’t have all the tech my F-150 had, but it’s less stuff to break. I’m floored with its performance and resale value. Super pumped.
I have a feeling when this thing gets a re-design, with a revamped interior that brings it up to current competition standards, it is going to KILL the market.
Just bought an 08 crewmax TRD Offroad with 270,000km. Still feels solid as hell and it gets the same L/100km as my brother in laws 2018 Ram sport. I can drive smooth and get around 12-13 L/100km...but I am just chilling at speed and not passing anyone lol I waited until just the right one showed up online and pounced on it for $11,950 CAD with a 2yr unlimited km warranty. Never been happier with any vehicle!!!
It's a solid truck but I see several things I like and don't like. The things I like are the power rear window, the Voodoo blue paint, and most of the styling, it is one of the better looking trucks. But the things I don't like are no leather wrapped steering wheel, the wimpy looking tires for an "off-road" trim package, and the two hood scoops - after you pointed them out I just couldn't un-see them and their weird look. But right now I'm team Ram for the best truck.
harrismi7 Good points about the rear window and exterior styling. Every vehicle I’ve owned, save one, has been blue, but I’m not a fan of this Voodoo blue (maybe it looks better in person); it looks like a washed-out neon blue on video to me.
Like the color a lot. It is different but not flashy, perfect for a truck like that. I would have no use for that kind of vehicle, but it'be so gangsta to ride around in one like for a couple days renting out a logde out in the forest or something, hauling firewood you chopped yourself. That is what comes to my mind watching this. Anyway, great videography again, nice details and composition.
I literally went truck shopping today and test drove f150 ram1500 and the tundra. Tundra does drive a bit wobbly and the interior is no doubt dated, however everything you need is still present. Nice looking truck!
@Jack Z Lariat cost more unless during employee pricing, i configured a f150 base lariat and the price is over 65k cad. And if I look at tundra trd sport I still get all options I want yet it costs under 55k.
Man I've been saving up for a Frontier because I really like the simplicity and size of it. But I'm really torn between the Tacoma and Tundra since I plan on keeping my next vehicle for 9+ years and they're like the jack of all trades of trucks.

@@BasicBodThor That's the kicker not the charm. They have the technology, charge enough money, but saves by not giving the extra features. Look at Ford & Dodge features... Relatively the same price points.
That interior and infotainment are unforgivable in a modern car. The Corolla blows it away aesthetically at $30k less. The silver plastic reminds me of a mid-2000s Pontiac.
The point of this package is to be overly practical and not complicated at all, of course it's not going to be feature-rich like many other modern cars
He is right the interior is dated - Toyota isn’t known for great interiors compared to competitors- but they could change that although they are a super conservative company
toyota fanboy here but crap fuel economy, no rear locker, safety ratings, lack of technology put this truck way behind everyone in the industry. very reliable thought and surprisingly good resale.
Toyota has been doing seriously a lot of great stuff recently, and I bet they could make an amazing new Tundra if they were to fully redesign it. It's been sooooooo long since they've redesigned the Tundra, and I think they should again. A hybrid version would be game-changing, but that's probably just a fantasy of mine.
I had a Toyota SR5 pickup for 15 years and it was great, loved it. I am really liking my '19 Ram Rebel and couldn't see me trading it for a TRD pro. If I'm going to have this truck for the next 10-15 years I certainly want the multitude of features it has compared to the Toyota. Saying that I hope in 10-15 years I will be happy with the reliability and durability of this truck. Time will tell.
@@martyfield694 cool to hear at 54k it’s been great. Planning on buying a used truck this year. Stuck between 2019 ram rebel and 2016-19 tundra trd pro. Reliability has me saying tundra, but interior and cool factor has me saying rebel.
you will never know the value of this truck until you own one for a long time. Solid , reliable , smooth ride , simple and easy truck. Works year after year and has a great resale value. What else a man can ask?
The Pro needs heated seats (in the US), leather wrapped wheel and blind zone alert. Those are the main items that would keep me out of one in favor of just a Limited trim.
Just bought one in the US, the dealer can add heated seat afterward. Bummer you have the pay for it but it is doable. Same goes for remote start. All done by the Toyota dealer.
I have a 2016 tundra with 268k miles and I use it for my shipping company haul a lot of stuff across the country and man this things are so fu*king reliable and it pulls
That voodoo blue and blacked out grill is very nice looking, indeed. This truck is old, but is aging well. It actually got a mild refreshening to the interior/exterior in 2014, but has been basically the same truck since 2007. I'm fine with the lower hoodscoop, but that one pasted on the top of the hood is ridiculous. The powertrain in these Tundras are proven and reliable, unlike the new tech that the other manufacturers are trying. I like the Ram Rebel better in terms of looks and interior features, but if I was paying my own money for a truck I wanted to keep, I'd get the TOYota. I look forward to TOYota eventually revealing their next generation Tundra and the subsequent Straight Pipes review.
My dad has new F-150 and my buddy has the Tundra.... I Personally like the F-150 especially the interior and over-all to me The F-150 is just a better a truck They tend to stick around too they are great trucks.

Simple, capable, Reliable, affordable, good looking and great value. WHY NOT. Love Toyota
It's a Camry with a truck bed. No diesel, no torque, no dually. No soul. Not a real truck.
J X it still would outlast any GM, fiat, or ford 😂 FACTS
Not the best in reliability. Look at JD Powers
Impressive.
No turbo, tiny ass bed, no solid front axle.
The best part of this channel is, even though I got no way to own a truck in my life, I can still enjoy the video٩😐ི۶
The Toyota Tundra has won the contest twice during my purchasing decisions in 2008 and 2017.
wlr1589 Can you tell me how the mpg is ?
I’m not looking for 24 mpg but anything like 17 and I’m sold. Plus eventually I would need a truck since I want to live in the country side and maybe potentially move my tiny house.
ZEROKOOL-20 Don’t get a Tundra if you’re concerned about MPG lol. They’re literally the WORST. And if you live in the countryside, get a truck that comes with a rear locker (the Tundra doesn’t). Go with an F150 or Silverado.
So you’re saying you bought 2 tundras? One in 2008 and another in 2017? Aren’t they the same truck? Lmao. That’s like buying a 2008 and then a 2009.
These guys put-out the best auto reviews anywhere on RUclips. Fun and enjoyable to watch.
I have a ‘13 Tundra I use for towing a travel trailer. It does that well, but it’s also a comfortable daily driver. The most reliable big truck out there. 👍🏻
Not according to JD Powers. And the Titan rides more comfortable than the Tundra lol
@@danr3545 jd powers gives false information
@Dan R I'd never take a Nissan over a Toyota. I've owned both. Nissan trucks seem too light and kinda cheap
bought my first new vehicle and went with a 19 tundra platinum. happy with my choice
Nice simple truck, V8 with no gimmicks and a decent suspension
This thing would drive through the zombie apocalypse and back and not miss a beat.
I used to hate the old school Tundras but they've gotten better looking than new Chevys and Fords. 👍
hate the old looking interiors
guy proulx “all around.” You’re hilarious 😂
Another sick one boys! Yuri - I'm glad you approve of the "T-Yoda"
I think what kinda bugs me is that the steering wheel looks like the last gen Prius one.
I’m 20yrs old, hard work and saving up has let me get a 2012 Toyota Tundra with 54k miles! Best thing I’ve gotten so far, I had a Mazda 3 before but this is the best decision I’ve made.
Jheassler that’s awesome! Work hard, reap the benefits!
Bought a Tundra based on your review. Love it. Thank you.
TRD PRO: The trim you NEED when you live in the suburbs and help your neighbor take his old lazy boy to the dump once a year.
SR5 RWD: The trim you NEED when you are hopping city medians, driving on shitty gravel roads, and hauling a fuckton of tools and junk
Except for the fuel economy, safety ratings, lack of technology, and lack of heated seats (in the US) on a 50k vehicle...
All sacrificed so the vehicle will last longer. The 2020 line of Toyota trucks with have apple carplay and android auto along with semi autonomous driving.
Standard forward collision warning with automatic braking, adaptive cruise control and lane departure warning
James Simpson so safety is sacrificed so the vehicle lasts longer. Interesting.
Jack Z also the 70 series has a 5 star crash test rating (different rating company than the iihs but still..)
Please do the Tacoma TRD Pro!
Nice job guys....I really enjoyed this review. It helped with my decision to buy a Tundra, but I went Platinum not Pro. My first Toyota and first full size truck.
Finally! Took you guys long enough to review this :)
Just bought a 2019 White Toyota 5.7 V8 TRD 4x4 Offroad with white fender wells. Love it!!! Got the 38 gallon gas tank.
Great review guys. I have a 2017 1794 to tow our travel trailer all around the country. It’s a great truck.
Congrats on the Raptor purchase! I saw the instagram posts yesterday - it really does blow away the TRD Tundra!
Thanks!
@@TheStraightPipes Congrats on the Raptor
@@NutButDontTella you don't have money judging by how youre talking lmao.

That's my truck - '17 Tundra Trd Pro in Barcelona Red. And I love it. I put 35's on it and No matter what everyone will tell you, this is only 1/2 ton from factory that fits 35s
Cough Raptor Cough
@@Bailey_54R TRD pro owners often forget the raptor for some reason
iRacecar Things Raptor is not a 1/2 ton. Raptor is a nice toy.
@@humbertorubi4947 The Raptor is by all technicalities a half ton. It only tows 1,800 lbs less than the TRD pro but it so much more capable off road.
@@humbertorubi4947 I disagree. Your arguement was what most people do with it not what it is capable of. That's like saying a wrangler sucks offroad because most people never take them offroad. Poor argument to say the least. The Raptor is a capable 1/2 ton.
This truck should've had a refresh years ago.
NO! Leave it if it works well! Toyota doesn't need to play Ford.
DURAMAX_DELIGHT it works well apart from the bad crash ratings and poor mpg
@@m1abrams1776 the other guys need good crash ratings so that they dont get hit when they're broke down on the side of the road. Lol
I think a minor refresh is nice maybe a touchscreen infotainment, Apple CarPlay, I’m not sure if this has keyless entry, some stuff would be nice
That drone shot that zooms way out 🤤
BEST for reliability. BEST for resale value. If it improved small over lap crash ratings it would be the best overall.
The joy of a big, simple, strong, truck. A+
Except the frame isn't all that tough. It twists easily. I'm an import fan but the big 3 offer better products when it comes to rigidity. Mechanically however this Tundra is hard to beat because of it's simplicity.
Best looking half ton out there imo. Love the trd Pro designs for all three in Toyota’s lineup.
It has over 300k miles and hasn’t needed any major maintenance except for a new radiator (tire flew up from the road and cracked it) Needless to say its an amazing truck and I would definitely recommend it
Did you know that the 2020 Tundra gets Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Push Button Start with Smart Entry, and rewinding satellite radio stations?
Tony Ren has it been announced that voodoo blue will be a 2020 Trd pro color as well? Apple car play is a huge feature for many.
lowell a it will not be.
Josh Tavenner thx for the reply. That’s unfortunate. This blue is really something on this size of a vehicle. Decisions and compromises. Such as life!
Tony Ren welcome to 2015
Welcome to the 21st century Toyota.
Thank you guys ! I love Canadians people . The most friendly people I ever met
Love That Blue Color, Too!!
Definitely on my Bucket List when I hit Lottery !!
They will price it correctly to not do that. They have the power to do so.
this comment aged well i think
toyota is extremely underrated the tundra is hands down best truck on the market with the ram coming in at a close 2nd
lil dos you can’t be serious it’s outdated.
The only thing that would make it good or in a place of it’s own would be a solid front axle
I love the look of this truck.
While the 2015-17 F150 looked better, the tundra will always be my choice.
Toyota, all day. Any day.
It always makes me smile when they announce the power numbers ;-)
It's a solid truck but I see several things I like and don't like. The things I like are the power rear window, the Voodoo blue paint, and most of the styling, it is one of the better looking trucks. But the things I don't like are no leather wrapped steering wheel, the wimpy looking tires for an "off-road" trim package, and the two hood scoops - after you pointed them out I just couldn't un-see them and their weird look. But right now I'm team Ram for the best truck.
Fair enough! The new Ram is great
harrismi7 Good points about the rear window and exterior styling.
To bad they can’t review the Texas edition of the Tundra in Canada.
What did you end up picking? I’m curious
@@ChrisDriven I hope he got the tundra

I think Toyota nailed it with the exterior styling of the Tundra TRD Pro. I think its the best looking even better than the Raptor imo.
This truck doesn't have enough technology/features for the price. Not to forget it has the worst fuel economy of them all. 15/19 MPG😵
Neither does the 4Runner...that's the charm
@@BasicBodThor That's the kicker not the charm. They have the technology, charge enough money, but saves by not giving the extra features. Look at Ford & Dodge features... Relatively the same price points.
Karreil2525 By 2020 All Toyota models will have Apple CarPlay and Android Auto!
For the price of new trucks these days I'll happily take reliability over technology.
@@JJustinXu That will be pretty sweet.
The people that buy this truck do not care. The people that buy this truck, in general, would not buy the new Corolla.
That silver plastic makes the truck reliable!
@@jakp8777 Lol
He is right the interior is dated - Toyota isn’t known for great interiors compared to competitors- but they could change that although they are a super conservative company
Having leather seats and no leather wrapped steering wheel would drive me crazy, kinda like the way Yuri says Toyota lol.
Congrats to Jakub on his Raptor, now we wait for Yuri's prowler reveal post!
toyota fanboy here but crap fuel economy, no rear locker, safety ratings, lack of technology put this truck way behind everyone in the industry. very reliable thought and surprisingly good resale.

Jakub & Yuri are the Rhett & Link of the automotive realm
The Pro needs heated seats (in the US), leather wrapped wheel and blind zone alert. Those are the main items that would keep me out of one in favor of just a Limited trim.
Just bought one in the US, the dealer can add heated seat afterward. Bummer you have the pay for it but it is doable. Same goes for remote start. All done by the Toyota dealer.
