In 2014 Toyota ran a TRD Pro in the Stock Full Class at the Baja 1000 and finished in 35:40. 2 years later, Ford ran a raptor in the Stock Full Class and finished in 35:59.

The advantage of buying any Toyota model mid way that has a long interval between a total redesign is that most of the bugs have been addressed and you end up with a battle tested car or truck. I have a 2015 Tundra SR5 double cab with the TRD off road package and so far with 5 central Canadian winters and 100 000 km's or 60 000 miles and have had no breakdowns or vehicle failures only oil changes and regular service. No vehicle is perfect but I expect to get many more trouble free miles and years of ownership.

all the tundras have that chip tape and deck protector. the only ones that dont get the chip tape are the ones that have side steps aka running boards.
    4:35
i wish i could comment on this but i strongly agree with you
    8:00
technically, those exhausts arent done in the factory. its done at TLS (Toyota Logistics Service). also, we never installed a supercharger in the plant thats also done at TLS or maybe the dealership.
Thank you for reviewing a product i literally had my hands building and i appreciate it. with that being said, i will not answer any questions about the future Tundra.

I have a 05 with 482k a 2010 with 419k i have had 0 problems and i haul all the time using them as work trucks and my workers have ford and dodge and they have had to have engine work and transmission work as well as replacing multiple thing around the Drive train at just over 100k they just do not compare to toyota. Also there are many of these tundras that have hit 900k and even 1 million miles original just maintenance and those truck were ran to death hauling for oil companies in the hot heat of texas so there is that.

Hi. I’m a carpenter and may be able to provide some insight into why the spray in style bed liners are not standard. Well- other than money. Which is the obvious answer- they can charge extra for it. The regular style old plastic type bed liners are actually preferred by a lot of workers (not that this truck in particular would be used for work). The plastic ones are much easier to slide tools in and out of, they are easy to replace if they get damaged, (which in my experience doesn’t happen often) they are significantly easier to clean. Especially if paint or something like that is spilled. Also, I personally believe the spray in bed liners are problematic with covering, hiding and promoting rust. In my opinion the regular ole’ cheap plastic liners are just better...

I've heard quite a bit of people call the Tundra the "Basic Trainer" truck, which shows you how to drive a 4x4 full size truck before stepping up to, say, a Ford or a Ram. I feel like that's pretty true as you don't get the comforts that the competitors give you (10 speed transmission, rear diff lock, safety features better than "safety sense," tuned suspension when not a TRD, and other examples). You get your basic non-distracting interior, with a big V8, and all the 4x4 power you need on and off road. In that aspect... yeah, I would make this my first full size truck so I get a feel of what a TRUCK is supposed to be... and then go buy myself a Silverado Trail Boss or a RAM TRX... because I like those things.

I know comparing a corvair pickup to the Toyota is like comparing apples and oranges, but the corvair engine is used in some planes, there is an electric corvair, and there is a corvair pickup that is amphibious(there is a video of the corvair riding in a lake), in a museum. I have yet to see a Toyota, or any pickup that is amphibious. The corvair may have a silly or sissy name, but it is my favorite vehicle with engine in the rear, but your review and testing of the Toyota was excellent.

Nice review, few things I dislike about the Tundra. That center console, why they have to divide the top up - just have one solid plush top as I like my elbow resting on it comfortably. Also, no cooled seats, and the fact that the interior is definitely very dated. When I have the coin I'd opt for the Raptor over this. Granted you get the V8 in the Tundra, to me that's the only weak point on the Raptor is the sound of the engine.

Great review. I am not really into trucks but that thumbnail had me hypnotized into watching it.

Thanks for reviewing the truck that I have.....I love so far and would not trade it for a tacoma nor anything else. the only thing I'd consider trading for is a new Raptor with a V8

Seat covers fix the leather. About to get my second Tundra. Going TRD Off Road to Pro. The 2012 has been rock solid reliable. Tows toys great. It does not drift like my manual Tacoma.

A little bounce test on the seat cushions of these off-roady type vehicles would help evaluate its off-road-worthiness.

Reverse gear has a much higher "crawl" ratio than the first gear in normal mode has (not talking about when it's in low range gear)

ah, I love my tundra purchase :) except it's no TRD Pro (I got a platinum, but always options to upgrade in the future aka once I pay it off)

I'm getting one of these this summer, I was thinking blue, but I really like the green. I'd also get a standard, plus it's very important that the bed holds 283.6 adult chickens.
