  • 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD PRO review by The Straight Pipes. The Toyota Tundra is putting down 437 horsepower and 583 lb-ft of torque from a Hybrid 3.5L Twin Turbo V6. At who knows what price CAD, would you take it over the Ram 1500 Rebel, Ford F-150 Raptor?
Find your ProClip mount and device holder, 15% off with code STRAIGHTPIPES:
    www.proclipusa...
Ditch the unreliable suction cup phone mounts and flimsy vent clip holders and upgrade to a better phone holder from ProClip.
ProClip mounting bases are designed specifically for the exact make, model and year of your car. They easily snap into the seams of the dashboard for a tight fit. Then, attach the phone holder to securely hold your smartphone in place while you drive. ProClip phone holders can fit phones with or without cases, and charge wirelessly or with a charging cord to keep your phone in place, charged and ready to go.

Wasn't big on the looks on the first press release, but it's growing on me and I honestly think it will look better in person.
As for the updates, the new powertrains sound promising (especially hybrid variant), and interior is a big step up. There are a few things about the user interface I'm not a fan of (but that's true of just about every new vehicle)
Now to talk about the elephant in the room - That on board fuel economy readout was 5.2 l/100 km. That's 45 mpg. While I'm sure that's not accurate, I'm curious to see what the real mileage is on this truck. Keep in mind, the hybrid F150 is rated at 24 mpg (city and highway). If this truck can match or beat that mileage with its power advantage and Toyota's legendary reliability (yes, even their hybrids have proven incredibly reliable), the Tundra should be a no-brainer for shoppers looking for $40k+ trucks in the full sized segment.

Yeah I agree, especially for offroading even just racing. Reliability and ease of modifying makes it the reason why people actually use these for tough shit. Personally, i think that if u wanna go wild, u go wild all the way, from front to back. N this tundra did it. Everything is edgy, muscular or blocky. No gentle curves at all.
Coz Its weird when u have vehicles with the craziest “faces” but the most bland of bodies.
Case in point: the bmw X7/7series. Obnoxiously large nose, relatively squinty headlamps, but the rest of the body is just mehhh😂😂

Please stop saying the price in USD . All these years I’ve watched all your videos and recently u guys started saying price of vehicles in USD, i feel like for being Canadian RUclipsrs/auto journalist’s it’s not fair. Just my opinion . From now on when u guys says price I skip it. Keep doing the good work . One of the channels where I find legit reviews of all vehicles.

This looks amazing, plus hybrid system seems awesome for day to day. Since Trucks are all automatic, there's no reason for V8s. Might as well get the extra torque with electric

I was going to buy it because I wanted a truck with good mpg. Because this has such shitty MPG I’m out.

Call me old school, but I like leaf springs out back and a V8 under the hood. I don’t care about fuel mileage, it’s a truck. And a V8 will last longer and be more reliable. Not denying the power they get out of these turbocharged V6’s but I will gladly sacrifice a little power for something that’ll last a long time, because I keep my trucks a long time.

@@iDrive4fun93 Ah, I get old school. For me it's the little 4 banger manual trucks, like the Nissan D21. They need to make more throwabout trucks like them again.

If history is any measure, 15 years from now, they’ll still be making this same generation when you splurge and pick up your new used 300k miles truck. So you have that going for you, which is nice

Honestly love this truck but I’m not going to buy a first year new gen. I did that with the Tacoma and ended up upgrading in a couple of years and I can see a lot of upgrades they can make on this Tundra.
I’m guessing hood scoop, 35 tires, bed step, auto 4x4, optional v8, maybe better mpg, and tow rings in the front.

I hope they don’t put the hood scoop like in the second generation tundra,It’s not functional and I think it looks ugly

Hey for the MPG were the 5.2 and 5.3l/100 displayed while sitting idling or really the average indicated? That works out to 44-45mpg if it's true.

Yeah twin turbo along with hybrid power makes for an efficient truck. Basically if you want Ford Maverick mileage but you want a full size truck then get this for sure

I was looking as well... If looked at the top, it said 630km until empty and they had nearly a full tank... full tank is 32 gallons. So, there is no way it's correct. I'm really hoping for some great MPG out of this, I have a long commute each day about 95 miles a day for work.. If they can cut my gas usage down significantly vs my 2017 TRD Pro, I will be waiting to trade in.

That 44 mpg is as true as that constant check engine light is my guess. It will be hugely impressive if it gets 25mpg combined in the pro trim when stats are officially revealed

    • @luisinhoens90
      @luisinhoens90 2 года назад

no way that mileage is true. This is a pre production vehicle and Toyota is aiming for mid 20s MPG with the Hybrid. Regulat TT V6 is aiming for 17 city / 22 hwy with 4WD.

I would consider going back to a full size truck just for the PRO. I personally like the looks and the power, wow! Curious if the fuel mileage will be 5.3/100km, my guess is no but we will see

In terms of looks, anything beats the previous generation of tundras. It looks amazing I love the design. This truck is a beast and I’m stuck between buying this or the 2022 Silverado zr2. It’ll come down to performance

Just started working t for Toyota and got to go to a Tundra event where I got to test drive the TRD Pro, all I can say is wow it was fun. The sport mode was surprisingly fast and extremely fun. The new I Force Max engine worked super well and had a lot of fun while I was in it. I am going to get one when I can, probably not the orange though, I’ll take white with all black accents
