Going to reiterate it again just so people understand this: when I say MK9, I say that as a follow up to Mario Kart 8. This is not to take anything away from Tour - but it is structured completely differently from the rest of the main series when it comes to how courses are handled in this series. There just is not much of a reason to bring it up here for that reason, as mentioned at 1:25.
Disagree with you there, as Nintendo considers Tour mainline. Sure the mechanics are different, but Tour still incorporates retro courses from other games, and Tour’s own nitro courses are incorporated into MK8 as well. I dislike Tour, so I’m not defending it out of fandom, but it’s not up for debate. It’s factually mainline and MK9.
@@Telmarine55 The idea that mainline must mean it's MK9 is also not true. Pokemon Legends Arceus, a generation 8 spinoff game, introduced new Pokemon for instance, that are now part of the mainline Pokemon universe. Scarlet / Violet are still considered the 9th generation of Pokemon games.
@@HDRookie how Pokémon is handled had no bearing on how Mario Kart mainline games are treated. Each mainline game is a number in the series; we know this because MK7 is considered the seventh game in the series despite it being the first “numbered” MK game in the franchise. Which means that Tour is MK9 since it’s the 9th entry in the franchise.
@@NicTube Ha. Yea, that was more of a reference to the game being for the 64-bit N64 system; it seems like a lot of games from that generation had the “64” moniker after it. “Super Mario 64” “Pilotwings 64” etc.
It would be a bit of a shame if its legacy ended with MKWii. DH and YF have also been dormant since then but for good reason, would be a little unfair to give Delfino the same fate when it's a more unique course
With the bcp, its been a mix of fan favorites and forgotten/disliked tracks. Honestly, them saving some of the fan favorites makes sense. If you burn through them all now, the only ones left for the next game are all the disliked tracks. Plus, if you focus only on fan favorites, then you will eventually run into burn out with them and it'll turn into the whole charizard situation.
With no BCP2 coming anyways, Nintendo wants to move on from MK8 and focus on the next Mario kart game to switch 2 with the smash ultimate treatment. Mario kart tour is also showing signs of no more content in the near future but will also face a threat of being offline forever (before feh does).
Yeah, this is why I hate the idea of every track returning at once. Yoshi Falls and most of the SNES courses should be in the dumpster of history forever
@@wariopide .Like I waited since 7 for The original factory concept, my favorite Wii track that never came back. I can't wait anymore, so I wanted it in wave 6. And yet, they've abandoned it once more and choose a Rainbow Road completely difficult from the same game that is stealing his place since Tour!
Your point about front loading early retro cups with newer tracks is also probably why Toad's Factory hasn't been remade yet. They need to save it for a shell/banana cup slot to they don't get forced to double up on game sources in a cup haha
Even though we're not counting tour its important to note that the stages(and characters) have to at least be in tour in some form to be in BCP Like delfeno, toads factory, wario coliseum arent in tour in anyway in the files so i have 0 expectations for them to be in BCP since the internal name for tour is "booster"
Also to note is that they have to make some of the first time or multiple-time retros to perfectly insert the new and/or returning gimmicks established by Wii, 3DS, and 8, beings tricks, underwater, gliding, and anti-gravity. The most notable example would be GCN Wario Colosseum, the track design itself would greatly benefit the anti-gravity and trick mechanics due to how bumpy and windy the layout is. And whatever new gimmick they'll add in the next game, they have to make sure some of the retros can make use of that.
I think MK9 will borrow the Lap variation gimmick from MKT, so they also have to take that into account. Adding More than one version of the track to the game like they did with cities could also be plausible.
I think they *might* break the "first-time retros only for base game" rule in MK9, but for courses that returned only in Tour and also DS. Maybe Wii too, but it might be too much. It would at least increase the potential pool of retro courses to remake in a reasonable way. Would like to see Frappe Snowland and Banshee Boardwalk (alongside Wario Stadium ofc) remade in a modern game without being held back by the old design philosophy for retro courses and technical limitations.
Another point of this prediction about saving tracks for later is that it's not just MK64 who has few tracks left. MKWii has only seven (probably six), and three of them are circuits (Daisy Circuit is great though), MKDS only has THREE of them (Figure-8 Circuit, Bowser's Castle and DS Rainbow Road). MK7 has already been burned of nearly half of its line-up as well. They NEEDED to get rid of many of the older GBA/SNES tracks NOW, or otherwise they'd be the only remaining games to remake from outside MK8 itself. They'd also have to start really paying attention to Star and Special Cup courses from the older 4 games, because otherwise they'll have to repeat games and even bring in second-time retros in the Leaf and Lightning Cup for future games, so they'll probably heavily lean into including them more, especially since they already bled three of the best selections of tracks dry.
It would be cool if the SNES levels had a portal at the goal that takes you to it's sequel level each lap. So imagine racing on Bowser Castle 1 on the first lap, then you go through a portal on lap 2 taking you to Bowser Castle 2, and then the final lap is Bowser Castle 3! I know it's kind of late since they already have SNES levels but maybe an idea for Mario Kart 9.
I'm unbelievably confused how Nintendo had sidestepped EVERY SINGLE POSSIBLE BOWSER'S CASTLE option to bring back in Mario Kart 8. Like if they throw a curveball and choose Vanilla Lake or something for the last wave (IMAGINE if they fumbled that hard), Mario Kart 8 would STILL remain the only post-retro cup addition game in the series where there is only one Bowser's Castle, the nitro one. Even after 96 tracks.
For the September sneak peak of Wave 6. I’m predicting that we will see one of the non-city Tour nitros which will be either Piranha Plant Cove or Pipeway. The second track they will showcase would be either DK Mountain/Dino Dino Jungle to put the debate at rest or Mushroom Bridge/curveball to show if those under the impression that Mushroom Bridge is no longer a pick correct. A possible theory for those under the impression Nintendo will throw a curveball is that it will be another Wii track as it was found out that Moonview Highway was originally an Acron track and those in favor of the curveball suggested that it released earlier as they thought of another Wii track to be in the Acorn Cup instead.
tbf there's no way they'd give snes bc3 a major facelift in tour (especially since other snes tracks got the bare minimum) just for it to not be in the bcp
Im gonna make a bold statement and say ds mario circuit deserves the spot as a circuit track. Its honestly the most humble track imo as far as circuit tracks go but its not a track so simplified that its like luigi raceway. And im just as happy we got this track because it was one of my favorites from ds. (Also side note it was one of the tracks I predicted from the start)
@@HDRookieIt's overhated because people wanted Airship Fortress but instead we got another Mario Circuit like if adding 3 Mario Circuits wasn't enough. And I'm gonna be honest, I was one those people 😅
I don’t know, Im still thinking that mk9 is going to be very different. With how Mario kart is also seen as getting derivative, changing it up a bit would be the right call. Maybe mk9 wont even have retro courses. With how they changed up the next 2D Mario game (wonder) giving mario kart the oddessy treatment might just happen.
I personally would like to see Mario Kart 9 repeat a few retro tracks actually. Like if we had Luigi Circuit from Double Dash return in glorious HD alongside Sky Garden and Sunset Wilds with their layouts restored.
Certain courses are just objectively more popular than others and are more of a draw. It is what it is, you don't have to agree with the mob. But that is reality.
I'll be honest that BCP is based on Tour, but for new Mario Kart game there will be more not yet remade outside of BCP or inside. While new Mario Kart game have Free Update will have 4 cups including replacement cups. New Mario Kart game will have BCP for sure!
I consider Tour mainline solely for the fact that it features courses from past games. None of the arcade games or Live: Home Circuit feature any courses or similar content like karts from first-party installments, while Tour relies heavily on the rest of the series in addition to providing its own new content, just like previous games. It's just structured very differently
I'll be making a follow up on this eventually, but I guess I'll give some spoilers. The best comparison to Tour is honestly Pokemon Legends Arceus. So much of it is practically main line, and it introduced some new Pokemon that are just canon now. I personally think it is way better than Scarlet / Violet even - but I will not refute that S/V were truly Generation 9.
Sometime ago I made my own Retro Grand Prix of the next Mario Kart game: (Edited on 14/9/2023) Shell Cup: Figure-8 Circuit (Mario Kart DS) Koopa Troopa Beach 1 (Super Mario Kart) Sweet Sweet Canyon (Mario Kart 8) Toad's Factory (Mario Kart Wii) Banana Cup: Wuhu Loop (Mario Kart 7) Mario Circuit 4 (Super Mario Kart) Sunshine Airport (Mario Kart 8) Mushroom City (Mario Kart Double Dash) Leaf Cup: Dry Dry Ruins (Mario Kart Wii) Broken Pier (Mario Kart Super Circuit) Electrodrome (Mario Kart 8) Maka Wuhu (Mario Kart 7) Lightning Cup: Wario Stadium (Mario Kart 64) Cloudtop Cruise (Mario Kart 8) Bowser's Castle (Mario Kart DS) Rainbow Road (Mario Kart Super Circuit)
I think the reason is as simple as they don’t want every fan favorite to return in the BCP so that they can save some for MK9 that we haven’t seen before or in a long time that fans love.
I still think airship fortress not being in the bcp is weird cause that course was already remade in 7, if it wasn’t remade it would be more understandable but it’s odd, same with Luigi’s mansion for the same reasons, there both popular courses that already had a remake and most likely won’t get remade in the next game
I'm surprised that you put wii Toads factory and GCN wario Colosseum in it. But I want 3DS Wario shipwreck, gcn DK Mountain, gcn mushroom bridge and wii rainbow road in it as well
It’s criminal that Wario Shipyard didn’t make it to MK8. Neo Bowser City instead? Really? But I think we’re basically guaranteed Wario Shipyard, Wii or GBA RR, and Wii Toads Factory in MK9 assuming they aren’t in Wave 6
@@cjtheracer0113It's quite fun if you don't make any steering mistakes and end up standibg on the track, facing the side because you drifted to much. Wario Colosseum and GCN Rainbow Road are the most fun tracks to play in Double Dash, next to Baby Park, which is really fun because of the special items of DD, making it hard to drive on the track without getting hit by a giant bowser shell, a yoshi egg, fireballs or a chain chomp.
What bothers me so much about Nintendo is how much they ignore and neglect various parts of Mario's history. They could have a track based on Sahasra land, a track based on Buoy Base galaxy, or a track based on a level from one of the Wario Land games, a track based on Ricco Harbor, they could bring in obscure characters like Wart, maybe some characters from WarioWare, but instead they think the way to innovate and make Mario Kart more interesting is to turn it into Smash Kart. Ugh
@@HDRookieI agree. Some CT-developers even made CTs based on the RPG games. One made a track based one BIS, while we also got a Teehee Valley track (based on Superstar Saga). I would love a track based on Paper Mario and having Paper Mario as a playable character. Also it would be cool to so tracks in Bean Kingdom or on the Island from Dream Team. If they did DT-tracks they could even make the third lap going into dream world and having the dream world version of the track music play.
A prediction is that each of the retro cups in MK9 will have a GBA track as Nintendo realized that they stumbled across a gold mine when remaking Cheese Land and Ribbon Road for Wii U DLC. This also shows as GBA has gotten the second most amount of retros in Tour only to SNES and it got a healthy amount of love in the BCP as well. Because GBA Rainbow Road is going to be next on the list, they might as well give Super Circuit the spotlight like what they did with Mario Kart 64 on Mario Kart 8 Wii U.
@@flinnparrygrowney2714 Yeah, I just think it's more likely that if a game will have 4, it'll be from MK8 or Tour since none of those courses will have been remade yet.
I'm hyped to see 2 more confusing Tour tracks, 1 original track, 3 disliked/forgotten tracks and 2 ok tracks remade just well enough so we don't feel like we're being starved for the final two cups :D
Actually 4 new tour tracks since all of the prefixless tracks in the bcp are all tour nitros because in tour they have mob in the files which means they are tour nitros
You make a good point about how the vast majority of first time retros in the Booster Course Pass have been underrated or disliked courses. I'm honestly starting to accept the possibility of Daisy Circuit now, because it definitely wasn't a fan favourite and would like nice for a second course of the Acorn Cup (this is my assumption that Mushroom Bridge isn't coming which for many reasons it'd be a weird choice now). I personally wanted to predict Dry Dry Ruins here, but it deserves to be in the original spotlight of a new game, so if they go that route it'll be a beautiful lightning cup track next time
I hope we don’t only see one N64 track in MK9. There are some tracks from that game that are due for another remake. Like Frappe Snowland, Banshee Boardwalk, DK’s Jungle Parkway, and Bowser’s Castle. These all came back before we got the new racing mechanics
I think it’s definitely interesting looking at what courses have/haven’t been remade yet to try to predict what we’ll get in the future. Although unrelated to the BCP or MK9, I do think every pre-mk8 nitro course will eventually at least be added to tour.
It still doesn't explain the lack of bowser castles. If they're being saved for later then there will be an overabundance of them in the next game, as DS is guaranteed for the next time, and/or GCN (The latter of which might've even been planned for the BCP but was scrapped early in development) and wii has potential to return, and that's not even mentioned BC4 which got a glowup in tour unlike any other track in general. Criminal that's not going to be in the BCP. I know i didn't mention 3ds but that's a mediocre bc and a recent one too that's already been remade in tour so I'm less bothered about its fate
Finally someone that puts high quality frontrunning background footage, seeing someone not knowing how to delay drift is so painful. Jokes aside, nice vid
Thanks lol. I like to think that my more competitive origins and gameplay gives me some extra credibility when doing deep dives of this series. At the very least it shows a dedication to the series, not just the currently popularity of the booster pass.
I wouldn't be surprised if MK9 starts off with 10 cups, 5 new and 5 retro, by adding the egg/bell cup from the WII U DLC into the middle of the cup selections for each, also my picks for a MK9 retro selection would be: Shell Cup GCN Luigi Circuit N64 Moo Moo Farm 3DS Shy Guy Bazaar WII U Thwomp Ruins Banana Cup DS Delfino square WII Toad's Factory GBA Cheep Cheep Island Switch Ninja Hideaway Bell Cup SNES Mario Circuit 4 GCN Mushroom City Switch Yoshi's Island N64 Wario Stadium Leaf Cup GCN Dino Dino Jungle 3DS Wario Shipyard DS airship Fortress GBA Bowser's Castel 4 Lightning Cup WII Dry Dry Ruins WII U Dragon Driftway DS Bowser Castel GBA Rainbow Road DLC 1 (Propeller/Rock Cup) WII U Electrodrome N64 Banshee Boardwalk SNES Vanilla Lake 2 3DS Wuhu Loop DLC 2 (Boomerang/cherry Cup) GBA Lakeside Park GCN Wario Colosseum DS Luigi's Mansion WII Bowser's Castel
i hope that sometime in my lifetime a mario kart game will come out with literally every track from the series, including the arcade gp ones and all five mario kart snes ones. i want to sit down and play through the entire track catalogue in one handy game
I remember in 2017 when I called Nintendo for real, not a joke, I called the number i found on my 3DS and recommended my Mario Kart 9 ideas to Nintendo. I was so stupid even if I did call Nintendo...
I know Wii Rainbow Road is coming, and that is one of my absolute favorite tracks! But I really want to see GCN Wario Colosseum, DS Luigi's Mansion, GBA Bowser's Castle 2, 3 and 4, And even more. But I don't know which other ones though.
I do really hope there’ll be some final Mario kart for 10 cause that makes sense and it gets every Mario kart course ever cause that would just be sick, might mean a bunch of dlc which might be scary for newcomers which wouldn’t be great but who cares
There's still no excuse for having ZERO retro Bowser Castles at all. Also, since DS Airship Fortress was already featured in Mario Kart 7, even with your theory, it absolutely should've been in the BCP. Like seriously, where the crap is it?
As a handy reference for folks, here are all 21 tracks from Mario Kart 1-7 that have NEVER been remade in 3D! SNES Mario Circuit 4 SNES Bowser Castle 1 SNES Bowser Castle 2 SNES Koopa Beach 1 SNES Ghost Valley 3 N64 Wario Stadium GBA Broken Pier GBA Rainbow Road GCN Mushroom City GCN Wario Colosseum GCN Bowser's Castle GCN Rainbow Road DS Figure-8 Circuit DS Bowser Castle DS Rainbow Road Wii Luigi Circuit Wii Toad's Factory Wii Mario Circuit Wii Bowser's Castle 3DS Wuhu Loop 3DS Maka Wuhu Great video by the way! I disagree about the mystery course existing, but that's not really relevant to the video topic.
My huge hope for Mario Kart 10 (I feel that MK9 is Tour): Customization for characters. Would be great to add costumes and can even have costume dlc. Love the huge selection of tracks in MK8, and loving the original stages in the dlc, so im excited to see what new things theyll add next. I bet theyll create a bigger MK to sell a lot of Switch 2 consoles.
I can already envision Nintendo adding GBA Cheep Cheep Island and BC4 to Mario Kart 9 claiming them to be first-time retros and all of the Tour fans start to "um acktually" the reveal trailer.
Maybe, but I think that won't be a huge discussion point. Nintendo won't outright say they're only focused on first time retros. We'll be able to tell based on what the rest of the distribution looks like though.
Hey man, big fan of the channel was just wondering if u needed a thumbnail designer as i would love to help all good if u want to make your own plus I'm still learning to do them :)
A lot of friends help me with Thumbnails - and I am open to help, I am just not looking to pay someone for them. I'm willing to make my own if I have to, but in an ideal world I just want to focus on the content of my videos. If you still want to help knowing this, feel free to join Rook's Domain (link in the description of my videos) and ask me there. Thanks for the offer!
The fact that you're even considering Wario Colosseum makes me question the logic followed here, because it's pretty obvious that every track up until now has been ported from Tour, and seeing how Wario Colosseum isn't in Tour, there's aprox. a 0% chance to see that track in 8's DLC. Also, I don't think it was necessary to have such a long explanation for the Rainbow Roads, they most likely just wanted to have a Rainbow Road as the final track of each row, and for the 2022 and 2023's holidays, that's it. Also, those 2 are the only Rainbow Roads in Tour, so there's that also.
I know Wario Colosseum has no chance - but that's because of their own decisions. If they wanted a course to be in, they would simply put it in. I don't think Wii RR would've been in Tour if it wasn't for the Booster Pass - it is a bit of an awkward fit in Tour to begin with, requiring just one lap to really be easily playable. But like you mentioned, they wanted a new Rainbow Road at the end of Wave 3 and Wave 6. By this logic if they really wanted to bring a course to the Booster Pass, they would bring it to Tour. Toad's Factory isn't in Tour either, but there was nothing really stopping them from porting it. They just decided not to.
for mkx I want: all of tours d/k/g ported over ar glasses support like on the bowsers challenge ride, vr would be sick too w gyro an open world w challenging levels or something different
Interesting question. I think I prefer Gold Mine on Mario Kart 8 but I feel like the mine carts were better in MKW - don't have a huge reason why though. Guess it felt like you had to plan more in Wii since hitting them in 8 is sometimes inconsequential.
I would hate a „Nintendo Kart“, there’s so many Mario characters I want to be playable and so many specific places from Mario games that need representation. Like, look at the GameCube Mario Tennis and Golf games, they had stages based on Sunshine levels, Luigi’s Mansion, Mario Bros. Arcade, and even Donkey Kong Country and WarioWare. Imagine if the next MK game went all out on specific references, some Odyssey worlds, a Bowser‘s Fury level, some pixel retro track and a Galaxy inspired stage other than Rainbow Road. They already started doing that with Booster courses like Yoshi’s Island and that’s hype. Just gimme some Wario Land track and throw n something inspired by the upcoming Peach game and I‘m sold.
It is possible. They are treating the retro tracks differently, so it does seem odd. (almost like the retro tracks are technically playable in other ways).
I only like mario circuit 3 in this game and in wii since its really fun to play on higher cc's, its nice to have a track where you can play on 200cc without having to brake on every corner same goes for snes rainbow road and a handful of other tracks.
It's pretty clear that nintendo are saving some of the blockbuster fan favourite retro courses for mk9. I guarentee at least one of wario collesium, toad factory, shy guy bazaar is going to be in mk9, if not more.
i think something they should consider is have the tour city tracks have their individual tracks instead of cramming 3-4 different tracks into one whole track
Almost none of the individual Tour city layouts make for remotely interesting tracks on their own. Combining them all into one was the best way they could have gone about it
*sees thumbnail* Wait, Wario Colosseum is a fan favorite? I thought it was just me and like three people I know who like that track. Literally. That's awesome to learn.
@@HDRookie It's one of my favorites from Double Dash even if I can never stay on the track when playing it on the Gamecube lol. If it does come to a future game, I hope that one includes bikes. Always been better with bikes then karts for some reason.
Your Tour profile shot is poising my eyes ONLY because you need to finish off those base points my dude! Oh how badly I wanna analyze and inspect your account and give some tips!
There is no way for them to do only original retro tracks in the next game unless they only want 1 N64 track and 1-2 GCN tracks, two of these 3 potential tracks being Wario and Stadium-esque themed, also another reason for bringing in some lesser known GBA tracks could be because they just feel they deserve a rermake more...
IMO I feel like whenever they finally decide to make Mario Kart 9, it would be best if they just added every Mario Kart track in history (à la Smash Ultimate) and redefine the brand by having it represent multiple Nintendo franchises with their courses and characters. I genuinely think it'd be the greatest step forward the franchise as a whole could take.
If Sakurai and his crew can do it for Smash, so can everyone else at Nintendo. They'd for sure make the most money that way off of their next game, without question.
I think your right about the next game only having 1st time retros (ignore every tour track already returning in the bc) initially but I wonder what will happen in the next game after that because at least 1 game would get no representation (N64) if it was also only 1st time retros in the initial 4 retro cups
They could go further. package MK8DX again for the next hardware, coming next year, and just bring all the dlc courses up to current visual standards. maybe even bundled into the cross-gen-upgrade patch. There are enough courses left they could do a booster pass 2 for it. There is even cheap ways for them to extend the life of the game with remixed cups of existing courses. a summer beach cup, a bowser cup, a boo's haunted cup, a rainbow road cup, a winter wonderland cup. I doubt anyone would complain about those cheap ways to extend the game's life. add some extra plyables in and you have this game going for another few years
@@HDRookiepicture a booster pass 2 that's got more types of content. new battle map every wave. returning weapons like the tail, the yoshi shell, the bowser shell, hearts. costumes for a character. perhaps a remix cup to a specific theme. They brought a lot of content together in the same engine. It's fair to want the next mainline mario kart. However, if the next hardware is a backwards compatible console, a normal mario kart would struggle to build a playerbase against 8 deluxe. This is why we got a toy control mario kart, and a booster course on the switch, instead of a mario kart 9 in that same timeslot. The only way i see the next mainline title any time soon, is if the new hardware doesn't accept switch cardridges.
The fact this booster pass even exists made me a little mad just cause they completely disregard the people who've been playing mario kart 8 for a bloody decade. I am one of those fools who preordered that game on the WiiU. It's time for a new game. I really hope they'll release a completely new mario kart title on the next console.
Imo, that was a Mario Kart 8 Deluxe issue from the jump. Back in the day we used to get a new Mario Kart like every 3 years. Deluxe was still a 3 year gap. It felt really disappointing as such when it launched. The BCP is the only thing that makes it feel like a new game to me, in some facets.
Great video and theory! I think you‘re missing a point though. A brand new Mario Kart game doesn‘t sell because of its Retro Courses, rather bacause it IS Mario Kart. The quality and notoriety of the courses aren‘t really that big of a deal when buying a new MK game than they’re for a DLC like the BCP. Smash and MK need some kind of soft reboot to move forward as a series. Both need some kind of huge new gimmick that make the instantly stand out from the past games/prequel. One way MK could handle that may be by completely getting rid of retro courses and rather focus on brand new Mario themed courses and new courses from other Nintendo franchises. They need a few fresh new things for the next game and only focusing on brand new tracks would give them more ways for more innovative/experimental course design and not too many already taken slots by all these retros.
I think you're underestimating the effect that prior courses have in excitement surrounding future games. Confirming a few courses that players already know they enjoy is powerful. It is a series rooted in lots of nostalgia.
It's hilarious how barely anyone gave a dam about Wario Colosseum 20 years ago yet now everyone wants it back because it's one of the few tracks that haven't been remade. Know where to draw the line guys.
The only tracks that have not been remade are : mario circuit 4, Ghost valley 3, snes bowser's castle 1 and 2,koopa beach 1,wario stadium,broken Pier,gba rainbow road,wario Coloseum, mushroom city,gcn bowser's castle,gcn rainbow road, figure 8 circuit,ds bowser's castle,ds rainbow road,wii luigi circuit,wii mario circuit,wii bowser's castle,toad factory,maka wuhu,wuhu loop,piranha plant pipeline, and all 8's nitros
If Eight Deluxe is getting BCP two the remaining retro tracks that are unused will be in it, and then Mk 10 will have DLC in the future and the remaining retro tracks will be used, including the original Nitro tracks from eight
If MK9 does turn into a massive Nintendo crossover, I wonder if we could get Diddy Kong Racing retro tracks if they're not completely owned by Microsoft.
if Mario Kart 9 focuses on non-Mario characters, id make sense to replace the usual 16 retro tracks with 16 non-Mario tracks. having 32 Brand new tracks might soften the blow of having less content overall.
The only reason this doesn't fully make sense to me is: what about DLC for MK9? Even if they're saving 16 retros including many fan favourites for the base game, that means they'll be left with absolutely nothing to add in DLC other than tracks which have already been in MK8, which will be quite an underwhelming purchase for fans since there will likely be very little visual improvement to the tracks over the previous game. My thinking is that they either do something quite different with MK9 to make it feel fresh, despite containing many of the same tracks (double dash anyone?) OR they go down a different route and have a game full of entirely new tracks. The one feature I really hope makes it in is backwards tracks. So much better than mirror!
@@HDRookie Perhaps, but Smash does have the additional element of characters/movesets being hugely important to the gameplay. Mario Kart typically is a similar gameplay experience no matter who you're using, so there's more focus on the track itself. I'm not sure people would be pleased about paying for DLC which is entirely tracks that were in the previous game, unless there are some serious revamps. Which is possible, we'll just have to wait and see I guess

I've not played Mk Wii in like a year because I forgot to put the save file into the SD card or the console won't let me do it, but the N64 Bowsers Castle remaster was boring and the same applies to all N64 tracks on the Wii game.
@@Telmarine55Are you telling me MK64 wasn't the 64th game?
/s
@@NicTube Ha. Yea, that was more of a reference to the game being for the 64-bit N64 system; it seems like a lot of games from that generation had the “64” moniker after it. “Super Mario 64” “Pilotwings 64” etc.
Unpopular opinion, but i would love Delfino Square to make a return, if not just for the music
It is actually really surprising that it never got in Tour. Wonder if they're trying to distance themselves from Sunshine or something.
Unpopular?
@@HDRookie 3d all stars mario oddysey beach, piantas in coconut mall, yeah, I think they are distancing themselves
It would be a bit of a shame if its legacy ended with MKWii. DH and YF have also been dormant since then but for good reason, would be a little unfair to give Delfino the same fate when it's a more unique course
@@GGYTTHEYTDon't forget Sunshine Airport.
@@therealjaystone2344 The Booster Course Pass may have had its problems, but it was *well* worth preventing Tour's courses from becoming lost media.
I dream of seeing Mushroom City, Wario Colosseum, and Toad's Factory in the next Mario Kart.
It's not entirely off the table, that's for sure.
Next gen console may make it look fantastic. Maybe they're saving the best for MK9.
I'm still waiting for wario shpiyard and bowser's castle for 3ds. But they prefer to use the fucking cities
Didn't think about that actually, but this is completely true
Even though we're not counting tour its important to note that the stages(and characters) have to at least be in tour in some form to be in BCP
Like delfeno, toads factory, wario coliseum arent in tour in anyway in the files so i have 0 expectations for them to be in BCP since the internal name for tour is "booster"
This is true. But if they wanted them in Deluxe, they would put them in Tour. They're doing this Wii RR currently.
I'm suprised that figure 8 circuit mever returned in mk8 despite both names having the no. 8 in them.
That's a really fun idea actually
@@HDRookie Thank you very much! 😊
Wouldn't it just be better to go for the city track approach instead? where they're all combined into a single one...
It is insanity. But it ends soon. No way they choose Vanilla Lake....right??
@@HDRookie I am beyond fearful of September…when we'll likely see the sneak peak of Wave 6 😭
@@bradhp11 Meanwhile Bowser's Castle 4 exists...
It's definitely overhated.
@@HDRookieIt's overhated because people wanted Airship Fortress but instead we got another Mario Circuit like if adding 3 Mario Circuits wasn't enough.
And I'm gonna be honest, I was one those people 😅
I mean tbf mksc had like 7 bowser castles
I’d be fine with Mario Circuit if Airship Fortress comes in wave 6. Other wise it’s unjustified and a colossal screwup
It’s definitely the most underrated track in the game. It’s my favorite circuit track right next to daisy’s circuit.
It could. I'd be pretty bummed out if there's no retro courses though.
There’s definitely going to be retro courses. I hope it gets super Mario wonder’d still!
I personally would like to see Mario Kart 9 repeat a few retro tracks actually. Like if we had Luigi Circuit from Double Dash return in glorious HD alongside Sky Garden and Sunset Wilds with their layouts restored.
I don't believe the whole idea that Mario Kart will become Nintendo Kart.
Wake up new hdrookie video
it make big sense to save the popular retro courses for MK9 on the next console. that is a big way to increase sales
GCN Wario Coliseum
Wii Toad Factory
3DS Rosalina's Ice World
GBA & GCN & DS Rainbow Road
I'd like to see these tracks preserved until MK9!
Fun fact: whenever nintendo says fan favorite tracks, they actually mean THEIR favorite tracks!!!!!
Certain courses are just objectively more popular than others and are more of a draw. It is what it is, you don't have to agree with the mob. But that is reality.
Incredible video. You succinctly summed up my thoughts perfectly.
I'll be honest that BCP is based on Tour, but for new Mario Kart game there will be more not yet remade outside of BCP or inside. While new Mario Kart game have Free Update will have 4 cups including replacement cups. New Mario Kart game will have BCP for sure!
That's very true!
I really wanted:
-N64 DK Jungle Parkway
-DS Airship Fortress
-DS Luigi's Mansion
-3DS Shy Guy Bazaar
-GBA Bowser's Castle 1
-GCN Luigi Circuit
-Wii Toad's Factory
-DS DK Pass
-GBA Luigi Circuit
-N64 Bowser's Castle
But unfortunately Nintendo is putting banger tracks!
@@HDRookieNintendo treats Mario kart tour since they made the game for Mario kart arcade and live they produced the game but not made it
Sometime ago I made my own Retro Grand Prix of the next Mario Kart game:
(Edited on 14/9/2023)
Shell Cup:
Figure-8 Circuit (Mario Kart DS)
Koopa Troopa Beach 1 (Super Mario Kart)
Sweet Sweet Canyon (Mario Kart 8)
Toad's Factory (Mario Kart Wii)
Banana Cup:
Wuhu Loop (Mario Kart 7)
Mario Circuit 4 (Super Mario Kart)
Sunshine Airport (Mario Kart 8)
Mushroom City (Mario Kart Double Dash)
Leaf Cup:
Dry Dry Ruins (Mario Kart Wii)
Broken Pier (Mario Kart Super Circuit)
Electrodrome (Mario Kart 8)
Maka Wuhu (Mario Kart 7)
Lightning Cup:
Wario Stadium (Mario Kart 64)
Cloudtop Cruise (Mario Kart 8)
Bowser's Castle (Mario Kart DS)
Rainbow Road (Mario Kart Super Circuit)
I think the reason is as simple as they don’t want every fan favorite to return in the BCP so that they can save some for MK9 that we haven’t seen before or in a long time that fans love.
I still think airship fortress not being in the bcp is weird cause that course was already remade in 7, if it wasn’t remade it would be more understandable but it’s odd, same with Luigi’s mansion for the same reasons, there both popular courses that already had a remake and most likely won’t get remade in the next game
Wario Collesum is the better Wario/Walugi track in Double Dash yet they’ve never beogubt it back
The Mario Kart Tour maps are always a lot less fun to play than all the other ones.

I'm surprised that you put wii Toads factory and GCN wario Colosseum in it. But I want 3DS Wario shipwreck, gcn DK Mountain, gcn mushroom bridge and wii rainbow road in it as well
I think your best shot here is not MK9 then, but rather Wave 6 👊
It’s criminal that Wario Shipyard didn’t make it to MK8. Neo Bowser City instead? Really?
But I think we’re basically guaranteed Wario Shipyard, Wii or GBA RR, and Wii Toads Factory in MK9 assuming they aren’t in Wave 6

I personally just wait for the Wii sports races
What bothers me so much about Nintendo is how much they ignore and neglect various parts of Mario's history. They could have a track based on Sahasra land, a track based on Buoy Base galaxy, or a track based on a level from one of the Wario Land games, a track based on Ricco Harbor, they could bring in obscure characters like Wart, maybe some characters from WarioWare, but instead they think the way to innovate and make Mario Kart more interesting is to turn it into Smash Kart. Ugh
I wish they paid some love to the RPG games too!
@HDRookie Yes can't forget those!
I did think about this. 4 of 16 would be insanity though. If there's 24 retros? Well, maybe.
@@HDRookieto be fair half of 7's retros were from either wii or ds, so I'm not letting that idea go immediately.

I wish it was this easy...×_×
Even the good ones? You need critical thinking skills lmao
I hope we see the RMX tracks from Tour again.
So they won’t become lost media.
Tour is Mario kart 9
I'm hyped to see 2 more confusing Tour tracks, 1 original track, 3 disliked/forgotten tracks and 2 ok tracks remade just well enough so we don't feel like we're being starved for the final two cups :D
Actually 4 new tour tracks since all of the prefixless tracks in the bcp are all tour nitros because in tour they have mob in the files which means they are tour nitros
The possibility that the next MK game can be called Mario Kart 10, with Nintendo's acknowledgment of MK Tour as a main game is funny to me xD
If it happens I guess I'm just claiming that they gave Mario Kart the Windows treatment.
Don't think this is the case. Tour seems like it's about to go into endless mode without new content
Yeah. Going to have a backlog of 3D BCs to get through.
I’m really sad we don’t get to see 3DS or Wii rainbow road in MK9 but it makes sense

There's still no excuse for having ZERO retro Bowser Castles at all.
Also, since DS Airship Fortress was already featured in Mario Kart 7, even with your theory, it absolutely should've been in the BCP. Like seriously, where the crap is it?
It's a huge question mark, no doubt.
Maybe Nintendo hates Bowser, especially they didn't give a stage for Bowser in the fighting game like Smash Bros.
I agree with you. The reason they aren’t bring out the big bads now is to save it for the next game.

My huge hope for Mario Kart 10 (I feel that MK9 is Tour):
Customization for characters.
What in tarnation!! Moonview Highway in in MK8 now?

They just decided not to.
for mkx I want:
all of tours d/k/g ported over
ar glasses support like on the bowsers challenge ride, vr would be sick too w gyro
an open world w challenging levels or something different
This reminds me of Smash speculation in a good way
Do you think WGM was better with damaging minecarts or antigrav?
Question: is BCP just Nintendo's way of preserving Tour tracks in case if Tour shuts down eventually?
It is possible. They are treating the retro tracks differently, so it does seem odd. (almost like the retro tracks are technically playable in other ways).
I only like mario circuit 3 in this game and in wii since its really fun to play on higher cc's, its nice to have a track where you can play on 200cc without having to brake on every corner same goes for snes rainbow road and a handful of other tracks.
I like Tokyo Blur a lot on 200cc for this reason
It's pretty clear that nintendo are saving some of the blockbuster fan favourite retro courses for mk9. I guarentee at least one of wario collesium, toad factory, shy guy bazaar is going to be in mk9, if not more.
i think something they should consider is have the tour city tracks have their individual tracks instead of cramming 3-4 different tracks into one whole track
I think 4 versions of New York and Tokyo would get old a little quickly. tbh
Almost none of the individual Tour city layouts make for remotely interesting tracks on their own. Combining them all into one was the best way they could have gone about it

They could make it work for one more game. Don't think they'd have a problem pulling more tracks from MKTour / MK8.

It'd be the best for consumers - not sure if it's best for Nintendo though.
If Sakurai and his crew can do it for Smash, so can everyone else at Nintendo. They'd for sure make the most money that way off of their next game, without question.
@@RyansChannel0203 difference is that Sakurai was going out with a bang. That was his last dance
I think your right about the next game only having 1st time retros (ignore every tour track already returning in the bc) initially but I wonder what will happen in the next game after that because at least 1 game would get no representation (N64) if it was also only 1st time retros in the initial 4 retro cups
It's a great question that might even get answered in the next MK. We'll just have to see though.

I doubt anyone would complain about those cheap ways to extend the game's life. add some extra plyables in and you have this game going for another few years
I would complain, because they've been doing that to MK8 for a decade now. I'd like to see something fresh for sure.
I don't think they're coming Let's hope they're in Mario kart 9
Well yeah, these courses were never on the table for MK8DX. It was always next game.
Ok but to me this raises another question.
When the time comes, will MK8 tracks be “Wii U” or “Switch”?
Wii u most likely since thats the first console mk8 was on
Wii U, imo.
Definitely Wii U. I’d imagine original courses made for the BCP may either be labeled with “BCP” or “switch”
Nintendo are trying to troll us.
THEY LITERALLY PUT IN DS MARIO CIRCUIT OVER AIRSHIP FORTRESS
Speak for yourself. It's been #1 on my wishlist since 2005.
Heyyy I see that Wario City theme choice 🤩
The only tracks that have not been remade are : mario circuit 4, Ghost valley 3, snes bowser's castle 1 and 2,koopa beach 1,wario stadium,broken Pier,gba rainbow road,wario Coloseum, mushroom city,gcn bowser's castle,gcn rainbow road, figure 8 circuit,ds bowser's castle,ds rainbow road,wii luigi circuit,wii mario circuit,wii bowser's castle,toad factory,maka wuhu,wuhu loop,piranha plant pipeline, and all 8's nitros
I want ds bowser's castle, toad factory and ds rainbow road back
If Eight Deluxe is getting BCP two the remaining retro tracks that are unused will be in it, and then Mk 10 will have DLC in the future and the remaining retro tracks will be used, including the original Nitro tracks from eight
Mario Kart 9 is a game that I'm willing to absolutely bet will never occur in an official manner.
Well, a new MK will definitely come. The name almost certainly won't be 9 though.
If MK9 does turn into a massive Nintendo crossover, I wonder if we could get Diddy Kong Racing retro tracks if they're not completely owned by Microsoft.
God I hope It doesn’t become a crossover
I asked for either of the DS circuits in the DLC :)
if Mario Kart 9 focuses on non-Mario characters, id make sense to replace the usual 16 retro tracks with 16 non-Mario tracks. having 32 Brand new tracks might soften the blow of having less content overall.
I'd be disappointed TBH. I love the retro tracks lol
I think it'd be similar to Smash. I don't think many complain about stages that end up being in most games
I just want a mario kart allstars for switch with 64, Double Dash and Wii.
why not SC, DS, and 7 while we're at it? Switch is a handheld too now 😉
@@HDRookie I am dreaming, you are just delusional. This is Nintendo we are talking about... Compromises need to be made.

I've not played Mk Wii in like a year because I forgot to put the save file into the SD card or the console won't let me do it, but the N64 Bowsers Castle remaster was boring and the same applies to all N64 tracks on the Wii game.
@@alexthemtaandr211weatherfa2 what would have made it not boring
I just want Yoshi Falls
I hope they let SNES Mario Circuit 3 just fade away like Bing Bong on Inside Out. Just because it was 1st, doesn't mean that it's still good.
Honestly most of the SNES tracks should be thrown in the dustbin
