Remember the BCP Leaks? There was meant to be 4 GCN Tracks when we got 3. People actually thought Mushroom Bridge was going to be the course, however, when Moonview Highway was revealed, people started to believe that Moonview Highway replaced Mushroom City in the BCP and Mushroom Bridge in Tour. Moonview Highway and Mushroom City have similar aesthetics, and it is highly believed by many, myself included, that we were supposed to get Mushroom City initially.
I don't think that Piranha Plant Pipeline returning has anything to do with it being released "too late" for the BCP. In several instances, the BCP actually had Tour courses being released _early_ (as in, BEFORE they _actually made their debut_ in Tour), those being Sky-High Sundae, Yoshi's Island, and notably Squeaky Clean Sprint (which was also a Wave 5 release). Prior datamines in Tour also suggest that Piranha Plant Pipeline was in development around the same time as Yoshi's Island, so it's not like it was a last-minute addition to the game. Also, I think we could see GBA Rainbow Road pop up in the next Mario Kart; given that since Mario Kart 7, one Rainbow Road has always been included as a retro course, and while 7 has the SNES version, 8 has the N64 version, suggesting they'll be going in chronological order. Tour was an outlier, given that it works so differently compared to previous Mario Karts and that most of its retro selection (especially early on) were from Mario Kart 7 courses in general, explaining the return of 3DS Rainbow Road AND SNES Rainbow Road; they later also gave Wii courses some love, explaining the return of Wii Rainbow Road, and essentially going through the Rainbow Road list _in reverse._ Now true, Tour eventually gave a lot of GBA courses some love, so why GBA Rainbow Road wasn't remade right then, I believe they'll be saving that one up for a proper Mario Kart sequel. Speaking of which, both 8 and Tour revamped a lot of the GBA courses, so the next Mario Kart could do the same with GBA Rainbow Road too.
Fun fact, TECHNICALLY Wuhu island is a part of the Mario universe, as the big ship off the coast of Wuhu town is called Queen Peach, after Peach and travels to Delfino Isle.
IMO, Toad's Factory is more popular and talked-about now that it hasn't come back than it was when MKWii was the most recent game. It had to contend with Coconut Mall, Maple Treeway, Wario's Goldmine, Koopa Cape, DK Summit, Grumble Volcano, Bowser's Castle, Rainbow Road, and even Mushroom Gorge within the same cup. That's already enough fan-favourite and well-loved tracks to make Toad's Factory fight to even stay above the average of new tracks in its home game. The track only stepped out of their collective shadows when they were all ported to newer games.
I think a reason of why Piranha Plant Pipeline wasn't included is due to the different route being completely separated from each other. This would make it difficult to implement Red/Blue Shell targeting if the target is on a seperate path.
There's courses in 8DX that have major split paths like Sweet Sweet Canyon, Twisted Mansion, Electrodrome, Bone-Dry Dunes, Bowser's Castle, Rainbow Road, and that's just from the original 16. The game's solution is to have the shell continue on its trajectory around the track, though more often than not for the red shells at least it collides with something else along the way. It was more likely a camera issue that prevented the track's inclusion
@SamRegan610 the thing about those tracks is that those split paths are completely open, while Pipeline has its routes completely enclosed, so the blue shell would have to literally phase through a wall to reach 1st
Pretty sure in Bowser Castle 2, that "dead end" is a place you can take a short cut if you have the jumping power up, I think it was a feather in that game? Though it's been a long time since i played that.
I've never played Super Circuit, but it still makes me sad that its version of Rainbow Road never returned. It has SO much potential for a redesign, and would loads of fun to pull off shortcuts on!
I feel like the only way it could actually be worth it is if they completely rework it to be more like Baby Park, shrinking it down and having more laps, with maybe some retractable ramps and dash panels. It's not a consolation for being the blandest track in the series, but at least it would be less of a drag
25:06 wii luigi circuit has an extremely similar layout to a real life circuit (autodromo nazionale monza), so this is even more true than for figure 8 circuit

21:00 I am surprised that Figure 8 circuit was not in Mario Kart 8 for some reason. The guys who work on the Booster Course Pass could make a Normal, Gliding, Anti Gravity and then a Underwater section.
Wario’s Colosseum was my favourite track in Double Dash. My cousins, brother, and I would all gather around the GameCube at my grandparent’s cottage to try and finally beat it without falling off the edge once. We had a great time and I wish with every new release they bring this course back.
They don't call it the ninth entry, never have, the only evidence for that is that they included courses from it in 8... but in that case we would have to consider Excitebike the first Mario Kart.
@@sladelucas5531but Excitebike arena is not a retro track, but a crossover track. Yes, it's a 3D version of the track in Excitebike, but it's not a retro track. Plus the first true Mario Kart would be Excitebike: Bun Bun Mario Battle for the Satellaview
It would be cool if they extended Wario's Coliseum and make it go outside the Coliseum at some point, only to go back to the beginning at the very end, and thus making it one long lap divided into 3 sections.
The reason why the Wuhu mountain track hasn't returned is obviously because Flame Hyenard is in that freaking volcano. But in all seriousness. I just subscribed and will be checking out your earlier videos in the coming days.
Ain't no WAY he just said that one of the reasons that BOTH of the Wuhu Island tracks weren't brought back is because they "weren't popular enough"... Those are, as far as i remember, some of the most popular MK7 tracks, and i think are definitely MORE popular than the other MK7 tracks you mentioned just after. Also, they're 2 of my favorite tracks from MK7, and in the series as a whole, and i believe that many share that sentiment.
I like the opening sentence because the present-tense seems to imply we'll ever get a new Mario Kart game instead of them milking the decade-old one with DLC for the rest of eternity.
The latest SNES bowser castle 2 custom track in Retro Rewind is an excellent example of how the track can return and play good. The dead end feather shortcut area is turned into a ramp that works as a decent mushroom shortcut on 150cc and can cut even more on 200cc. The awkward jump area was changed to scattered low boost ramps to give you tricks without sending you flying, and a lot of the walls in the center of the road were removed to allow for easier navigation and corner cutting. Overall, I could totally see bc2 coming back in the future if Nintendo did something similar.
24:08 I genuinely feel like 8's anti grav gimmick was super underutilized. It became generic in terms of course design in immediate ramps to go on a wall, or just excuse going upside down. Spectacle wise it's fine, but mechanically it offered less than 7's Glider, other than getting a mini boost when bumping into a player
Although it's obvious why they probably wouldn't come back, I think it's still worth mentioning the RMX tracks from Tour. There's 10 of them, and despite being named after existing courses and using the same aesthetics, the layouts are entirely original and some even use unique course elements
I remember this one quote-unquote "defense" about SNES Bowser Castle 2 of people saying that course being a track editor of saying "wElL, iSn'T tHaT jUsT tHe SyMpToM oF bEiNg FrOm SuPeR mArIo KaRt?" And then the smart ones say NO! The other SMK courses HAVE track design! One part of a road from that title naturally leaves to the next part on the other courses. THAT'S THE BARE F*CKING MINIMUM! (yes, I got this criticism from a specific channel, don't ask)
I think Wii Luigi Circuit is fine. The first courses from every game are supposed to be simple, given it's the first race of the first (and usually easiest) cup. Helps to introduce new players to the game mechanics.
technically they're not proper retro tracks as they were labeled as extra tracks in MKSC and lacked the visuals and many of the hazards from their original Super Mario Kart incarnations. The retro tracks as we know them today originated in MKDS.
fun fact: Wii Mario Circuit has actually returned in some form! it was in the Dream Ski Cross event in Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games, and its design in that game is a lot more fun than the original
Seeing DS RR return by 8 would actually be a bit disappointing. One of my favorite things was how if you dropped attack items at the upside down part of the loop, anyone stopped by hitting them would fall off the loop due to losing momentum, and fall off the course.
Man, some of my favorite tracks were Wario Colosseum and I really like the bumps and jumps in the N64 Wario stadium they just had oomph to them. I also miss Mushroom City. Double Dash had some really good tracks. I wish they brought it back for Mario Kart 9 as an optional mode or something. Or like it was an optional kart style like mortorcycles and karts are. Some people dont like driving and just like being the item guy. I always loved driving my friends arounds while they aimed a perfect koopa shell shot. It was super dynamic and forced teamwork with your friends.
The two Wuhu Island Tracks are my Favorite Mariokart Tracks of all time! They are the only reason why i still Play Mk7 These days. I think it realy is a shame they have'nt returned yet
Getting knocked into one of those pockets on Bowsers Castle while trying to drift completely loses you all speed and makes you double back onto the track.
They should of brought more than 3 double dash courses ,because Mario kart double dash is my favorite Mario kart it would of be cool to see ones like wario colosseum,Dino Dino jungle mushroom bridge, the bowser castle in double dash cause that my favorite bowser castle in the whole franchise.
I wish DD's Rainbow Road does come back, since although visually doesn't have as much as other Rainbow Roads, it is arguablu one of the more technical and difficult ones if not the most technical and difficult in the series alongside Super Circuit's
I think Wario colosseum could be done as a section track without TOO much alteration to the original track layout by having one section incorporate the colosseum itself, just thinking off the top of my head maybe a part of the original track could be broken at the end of the first section, and the racers drop into the colosseum for the second section, drive around it a bit, and then glider ramp back onto the track for a third section to end off the lap. Quite what the colosseum part of the track would look like i don't know, but i think it could be a cool idea
I personally loved GBA Rainbow Road. The shortcut is hard because of the bumpers on the side, sure. But that's the fun of it. You have to be good to use the shortcut, or else you set yourself back. It's not just a shorter path in a split in the road that EVERYONE takes because if there's no difficulty spike. It's also a nice change of pace from newer game's shortcuts that say "You can only use this shortcut if you have a mushroom" No. Anyone can enter, only the elite can exit without being yeeted to the abyss.
I wouldn't say Pipeline was too late to be included, since Squeaky Clean Sprint was released in Tour after Pipeline was. Adding to that, while I don't know too much about when courses were finished, the final renders for both tracks in Tour were a year before they released in Tour and 8 Deluxe for Squeaky Clean Sprint. I feel that indicates that the tracks were indeed finished long before either of them were actually added to the game. I feel if it boils down to anything, conflicting names feels the most logical and perhaps the fact they just didn't want to include two non-city Tour tracks in the same wave.
There's a dark theory behind why Toad's Factory never returned. It's been a while since I saw a video explaining it, but it boils down to Toad being an unsavory businessman and Nintendo not wanting to draw attention to it again.
with how 8 and tour did the GBA tracks. Im super excited to see them attempt the Rainbow road of that game. They could litterally add a section where you drive into the floating bowser castle as part of the track.

Wii Luigi Circuit is literally just a compacted version of the Monza road circuit, in its original layout from the 1920s (which had no chicanes, and a banked final corner, unlike the modern version), with some Mario-themed embellishments like boost panels and pipes.
From GBA onwards most of the tracks that haven't returned are probably just tracks they just haven't brought back yet, no other reason. with the rainbow roads that haven't returned it's probably just because they aren't the first 2 or exceptionally popular like wii or the 3ds's and in the 3ds case like 12 of those tracks returned in tour

@@lemmyxpro I don't think so. Even if we get F-Zero crossover tracks, they'll just make brand-new ones. Also if a Nintendo Kart happens, it's probably not going to have tracks from the Mario Kart series.
@@lol-ih1tl…no? Mario Kart would most likely be the backbone for a Nintendo Kart, it would be really weird if they didn’t use a single track from the flagship franchise
@@PodcArne if a Nintendo Kart does have Mario Kart-themed tracks, it would just be either a generic Circuit track called "Mario Circuit" or a generic Rainbow Road track. If they use pre-existing Mario Kart tracks, the candidates would be: Mario Circuit 3, SNES Rainbow Road, N64 Rainbow Road, 3DS Rainbow Road or Wii U Mario Circuit (if it has anti-gravity) and maybe Yoshi Circuit or Baby Park.
@@PodcArnethe name Mario Kart itself is so iconic that changing it to something like Nintendo Kart sounds too generic to abandon it just because ONE installment had guest characters.
Will for example Tekken change its name to Bandai Namco fighting bros if it suddenly includes PacMan? 🤣
I definitely want to see the Wuhu tracks return.
The remake of gba rainbow road for wii is a great proof of concept. That track rocks and I 100% think they should bring it back.
Very much enjoyed your commentary and the music was especially appreciated! Please continue to put the titles in the corner
The truly forgotten tracks are the ones that don’t even feel belonging to the series… like dino dino jungle
Mushroom City is such a great track! I will never understand why it's so underrated.
Jesus Christ, the current Mario Kart game will be 10 years old this year
It is since may.
I know it really doesn't have much going for it, but N64 Wario Stadium has a special place in my heart for reasons even I can't explain fully
I like it
I genuinely only go back to 7 just to play Maka Wuhu. It's easy top 10 all time courses for me. I really hope it can make a return.
I think a reason of why Piranha Plant Pipeline wasn't included is due to the different route being completely separated from each other. This would make it difficult to implement Red/Blue Shell targeting if the target is on a seperate path.
Sweet Sweet Canyon also has split paths.
Fr underrated how do you only have 670 subs? Great video keep it up!
Tour should have some of the MK8 tracks like Electrodrome, Cloudtop Cruise, and Dragon Driftway
You forgot to mention Mario Kart 8's tracks... It's sad a lot of those didn't come back in the booster course pass.
awesome video! love the music in the transitions !
This is a really good video :D Congrats on getting something picked up by the algorithm!
I can't wait for Mario kart ultimate. Every track is here!
I really enjoyed watching this. keep up the good work!
16:40 that’s the coolest part though! It like a cool motorcycle cage thing and the verticality is awesome
3:25 the random "square area dead end" is where you use a feather for a cool shortcut.
I’d actually hope that figure 8 track from DS never sees the light of day again, it makes bloody Toad circuit fun in comparison.
I like the video, but the music choices really carried it for me. Never expected Mean Bean Machine's 2 player to appear. Good shit bro
Also KOF music will always win me over
21:00 I am surprised that Figure 8 circuit was not in Mario Kart 8 for some reason. The guys who work on the Booster Course Pass could make a Normal, Gliding, Anti Gravity and then a Underwater section.
the DS kid living in me would love to see Figure 8 Circuit come back, it’s such an ugly duckling I love it
Honestly surprised you never mentioned the GCN Mario Circuit; That map completely passed my memory on MKWii
Underrated channel
Wario’s Colosseum was my favourite track in Double Dash. My cousins, brother, and I would all gather around the GameCube at my grandparent’s cottage to try and finally beat it without falling off the edge once. We had a great time and I wish with every new release they bring this course back.
has anyone ever wondered why the gamecube tracks are shortened with GCN?
i dont recall gamecube having an N in its name
I think it’s supposed to stand for Game Cube Nintendo
31:01 actually nintendo calls mariokart tour to be the ninth entry in the series so the next one would be mario kart 10 or x
The next Mario Kart would still be called "Mario Kart 9" as the 9th console Mario Kart game.
It would be cool if they extended Wario's Coliseum and make it go outside the Coliseum at some point, only to go back to the beginning at the very end, and thus making it one long lap divided into 3 sections.
28:12 - I was not expecting to hear the Fist of the North Star: Lost Paradise racing song in this video, but I'm happy it happened 🤣
The reason why the Wuhu mountain track hasn't returned is obviously because Flame Hyenard is in that freaking volcano. But in all seriousness. I just subscribed and will be checking out your earlier videos in the coming days.
mushroom city didnt return yet because of tour, all city tracks
Actually it wasn't underutilized. When the game first came out, all new tracks had anti-gravity.
Mario Circuit 3 is a drift paradise in the games it returned. That may be a reason why Nintendo likes it so much
Although it's obvious why they probably wouldn't come back, I think it's still worth mentioning the RMX tracks from Tour. There's 10 of them, and despite being named after existing courses and using the same aesthetics, the layouts are entirely original and some even use unique course elements
Highly underrated
Great video
I remember this one quote-unquote "defense" about SNES Bowser Castle 2 of people saying that course being a track editor of saying "wElL, iSn'T tHaT jUsT tHe SyMpToM oF bEiNg FrOm SuPeR mArIo KaRt?"
And then the smart ones say NO! The other SMK courses HAVE track design! One part of a road from that title naturally leaves to the next part on the other courses.
THAT'S THE BARE F*CKING MINIMUM!
(yes, I got this criticism from a specific channel, don't ask)
Let me guess, Schafrillas.
I think Wii Luigi Circuit is fine.
The first courses from every game are supposed to be simple, given it's the first race of the first (and usually easiest) cup.
Helps to introduce new players to the game mechanics.
0:13 technically Super Circuit started it
technically they're not proper retro tracks as they were labeled as extra tracks in MKSC and lacked the visuals and many of the hazards from their original Super Mario Kart incarnations.
I hope they add some GC/GC2/GCDX tracks in the next one. There’s some pretty cool tracks on there.
Plus is has that pretty shiny floor I want in my house
It's also a nice change of pace from newer game's shortcuts that say "You can only use this shortcut if you have a mushroom"
No.
It's been a while since I saw a video explaining it, but it boils down to Toad being an unsavory businessman and Nintendo not wanting to draw attention to it again.
this should have many more views, it's edited very well and it's enjoyable ^_^
"upside down U" bro has never heard of a lowercae N ( n )
with how 8 and tour did the GBA tracks. Im super excited to see them attempt the Rainbow road of that game. They could litterally add a section where you drive into the floating bowser castle as part of the track.
Why Mario Circuit DS over Airship Fortress??? We didn’t need another damn Mario Circuit
At this time you have 420 subscribers and I will be the villain the dastardly demon to ruin it for everyone.
CTGP-R players stay winning

When Mario Kart 8 Deluxe first came out, they did bring back Wuhu Town which is also in Wuhu Island.
So there is always next game for the two Wuhu Island tracks to come back, potentially. Since they aren’t entirely off the table.
34:59
Lmao.
GBA Rainbow Road is picked ridiculously often in Retro Rewind worldwides.
You forgot about N64 Sherbet Land. That was LITERALLY one of my personal favorite classic courses that debuted in the Nintendo 64 back then. Wish that one SHOULD'VE been added in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe's Booster Course Pass. Other than N64 Sherbet Land, here is the list of my other favorite courses that WOULD'VE been added in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe but left out (including some that you mentioned in this video):
1. N64 Banshee Boardwalk
2. GBA Rainbow Road
3. DS Airship Fortress
3. 3DS Wuhu Island
4. 3DS Maka Wuhu
5. GCN Wario Coliseum
6. Tour Piranha Plant Pipeline (originally a course for Mario Kart DS by the way, but got scrapped due to being "too ambitious")
7. Wii Bowser's Castle
8. GCN Rainbow Road
9. N64 Sherbet Land (aforementioned)
10. GBA Broken Pier
11. 3DS Shy Guy Bazaar
12. 3DS Daisy Hills
And that is my list of courses that WOULD'VE been in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe's Booster Course Pass but never came back to be added. Perhaps they're probably saved for the next Mario Kart game for the successor console to the Nintendo Switch. 👍👍👍
tbh this is about courses that haven't come back in any game, not just the booster pass, n64 sherbet land came back for the wii (and I love it)
@@MidnightCapricorn2696 Yes, I am aware that N64 Sherbet Land at least returned in Mario Kart Wii and I am obsessed with that course aside from the Wii version of Rainbow Road. Perhaps though, these forgotten courses could be saved for the next Mario Kart game. 👍👍👍
Wouldnt having boo lake, broken pier And banshee boardwalk in the same dlc be too much?
@@Da_Sire Well, I don't see why not.
@@caseyp8173 i just feel like they would be too similar (even tho i love all 3 tracks)
Wii Luigi Circuit isn't just _like_ a racetrack that could appear in any racing game, it *is* a racetrack that could appear in any racing game.
I expect the gba rr to come back next
Honestly, Wario Colliseum and Bowsers Castle Double Dash were my two fav tracks from DD, so I'd love for them both to come back even with the warts. (Though I do heartily agree, making WC a section track and/or making part of it take place in the stone coliseum proper would be awesome)
The GCN and GBA era had some many beautiful nighttime tracks
I loved mushroom city and toad factory so much, hope they can be brought back in Mariokart 10 whatever or whenever that might be as tour is still relatively new
I thought he was going to talk about the soundtracks.
