It's gonna be another destiny 2 case where the engine is so bad they cannot release new content or it takes 3 months to do something that you could've easily made in less then 1 in UE5, this is the huge turnoff for me why I'm not buying this game, I don't have faith in the future of a game that runs on a bad engine that has been discontinued for 6+ years
Something wrong with the servers where I would get nothing after each run. But I still ran 5 more missions because Im so addicted. Didnt get a damn thing but still had fun.

Agreed in all counts. This game is shockingly good, and I am both playing solo and don’t usually go for live service games (aside from Destiny and Diablo). As far as ‘pay to win’ yah this doesn’t exist. In just the first weekend playing solo, I’ve picked up almost 1500 super credits between finding them out in the world or getting the 100 packs in the War Bond as part of progression. New war bonds come out every month. Meaning people have plenty of time. I had the Deluxe Edition so didn’t need the current Premium Warbond, but I’ve been able to purchase all 4 armor sets in store (they are on a 48 hour rotation in and out and are so cheap) by just playing the game normally. As long as people explore the points of interest on a map, they’ll have more than enough. It’s also not pay to win because the weapons and armor you get isn’t really any better than what you can get in the free war bond. I’m level 18 and have unlocked a lot of both warbonds and I am still using weapons I got early on with the free War Bond. I don’t use anything from the Premium War Bond. It’s mostly cosmetic as far as armor, and if you really don’t want to pay you can earn these. Also the game is PvE. I assure people no one is missing anything with the paid content. And as far as monetization goes, this is one of the least egregious, especially considering how good the game is on top of it. Arrowhead has sold me on this one. I am a committed soldier of democracy from here on out. Lol. Combat reminds me a lot of Remnant, but even better. And moving up difficulty doesn’t just get you more bullet spongey enemies. It gets you new enemy variants, mini boss type enemies, it gets you new mission variants and access to side missions. Visuals are great. It’s one of the best shooters in quite some time. Audio and haptics hit hard and are on point. And I think Sony might really have their first great multiplayer since Factions 1. The decision to release day and date on PC was absolutely the right move as well. I suspect this is next level with friends or even with randoms, but even solo it is a ton of fun and I haven’t put this one down since it launched. Highly highly recommend for sure.
I can attest, it gets better with Randoms, and with a proper team (even just a duo going) things get pure awesome. Crew served weapons let you go ham (or let your buddy go ham), but on higher difficulties it's a mix of power trip and panic. (Higher in this case being the middle band of 4-5) Watching a field of 3-5 turrets of assorted types rip an army apart is amazing. (MG, Gattling and Autocannon was the mix I watched in awe last night.) To say nothing of the sheer explosion fest that is four people all hitting their panic button call in's at once. (Michel Bay would weep.) Plus you get great moments of emergent drama like one team member doing a run for the dropped samples a quarter of the way across the map while the other three are trying to hold the LZ to get out alive. Even just moments of instinctive coordinated fire and L shaped ambushes tearing up a patrol are thrilling. To say nothing of hearing on voice the thanks of the other half of the team to the AT crew tearing down a wave of bot Devastators with missile pods, even if your the loader in that equation.
this the first game ive played more than 8 hours straight ( and still not bored ) since pubg was at its 1.0 update and i was still in highschool during that the fact that i work 60 hours a week and spent my off days this week just playing this instead of catching up on sleep or knocking out errands says alot and i cant wait to play again on my weekend lol
for a company who, as of late, was mainly known for single-player games sony managed to finally show they have the ability to help create a great multiplayer/co-op experience. (Also no other game i know of lets me name my ship Patriot of Patriotism)
Sony funded the first helldivers too. I always mention it when people say that the ps4 era was just single player 3rd person cinematic games. Those were the top sellers but there are some great multiplayer Sony experiences last gen that got over looked.

I'm not even sure how it's pay to win. You can get about 2 different armor sets from the superstore every couple of days but still die to a single rocket from a cyborg.
as someone who also was looking at this game, it is easily the best money i have spent, and it gives me the best feelings of DRG being the environment being generated and all the good things with the progression.
It is a good game but to be honest I just had a game where we destroyed 95% of the automaton factories but when we were going towards extraction a army appeared out of nowhere just nonstop automatons and it made no sense as to how there were so much at the end when there were basically no factories
I rarely fear things in games but a charger scares me we put two recoiless rifle shots an anti tank round a cluster bomb and an orbital strike into one and it still didn’t die
Make sure to hit the front leg of the charger with recoilless and it'll destroy the armour on it in 1 shot, then just use normal guns on the now squishy leg and it'll die super quick
I was playing this day one with a friend and, after about 2 hours, we were going "Why don't they just give Arrowhead the license to make Battlefront or Aliens or Judge Dredd?" This game was just that much of a complete package in spite of issues that many AAA games deal with and fail at within the first week of release.
I've only recently found out about it through my workplace. This game blew all of my expectations and I really hope they keep this simple and straight-forward as it is now. I think the paid battle-pass not being in your face and the shop being simply an option for customization shows respect to the players. I really hope they stick with their current model and keep it simple!
i totally agree, its been years since i had so much fun in a coop game. And its been years i spent money for a game and actually felt good about giving the devs something back. Everything in this game feels so good. And you really can feel the attention to detail and love the devs put into this game. So im happy to spend some more money ingame for cosmetics to appreciate that. You have the nice feeling of slaying hordes like in deep rock galactic or diablo. You have the feeling of unity and a bigger cause like in planetside 2. The gun gameplay itself just feels good. Movement is smooth guns feel great, tons of different playstyles due to tons of different gadgets you can bring into a fight. Everyone will find something that fits them. Cheap but good looking skins. No pay 2 win. Awesome graphics. Again love to detail. Just standing in your ship looking down feels so great. The humor of the game is hilarious. Its challanging. Its fun, its addictive. Im glad we got this game and im glad it has so many players and success. Hopefully this makes the big AAA-Studios question their boring approach of creating the same game over and over and over again year by year the same mechanics with just a reskin. This brings fresh air and i really really really hope the gaming industry takes that as an opportunity to take risks again to create games again that are actually fun to earn money instead of running the same stupid approach every single time to melk the money cow.
Howdy Helldivers A tip in case you didn't know : If youn hold on your reload button, You can change the rpm of the machine gun or others weapons, you can also adjust the zoom of the scope on certain rifle, or even turn off/on your flashlight
the only valid criticisms I've seen of this game is the server issues and anti-cheat on PC, that's it. The rest is just weird Xbox fans trying to shit on the game without ever playing it themselves. these console warriors are something else man lmao
The major addicting thing for me is the music and hellpod launch animations. Hypes me up everytime and i sometimes just play a mission to see the launch sequence😂
I’m genuinely so happy with the way the gaming industry is going. Helldivers, lethal company, battle it, and pal world are showing the gaming industry that GAMES SHOULD BE FUN. Not cash cows!
The monetisation bit is what I really appreciate about Helldivers 2. It respects the player's time, and it motivates players to continue playing to get premium currency, whilst others can spend money instead of their time, giving players OPTIONS. Destiny 2 has just released the new Mass Effect sets, and I have never spent any money on silver, and I was going to do it this time, but 2000 silver for each set, and since I play all three characters and want all three, 6000 silver just for the sets would cost me £40. That is the price of Helldivers 2!
highly recommended! its an amalgamation of horde shooters (L4D inspired: WWZ, Vermintide, and DRG) checking out all the criteria of what make a team-oriented game which is engaging and still fun and has a rewarding character progression w/ appreciable changes. A+ for Starship Trooper B-rated comedy. as of now optimization would a welcome one or an ideal regional price to sooth its Beta state of release in PC.
Devs did a gacha moment. Yeah you can buy the first 2 armors just fine. but on the second day it's impossible to get the next armor unless you grind like a zombie. 100 super credits then they limit it to 50 super credits. Kinda smart on their part actually. Will force you out to buy their game currency. It's only cosmetic of course...
First dive was with 3 mates. Such fun. Friendly first adds so many laughs. Was worried solo would then feel bland but to my surprise it felt more tense. Less fun but still good.
in the patch note i noticed they said something about the servers apparently like you said they did not expect to have so many ppl on at once so it messed with the servers i just really think this goes to show they did not expect their game to be very very popular
They prepped for about 120k total. The peak, considering the servers work for both PC and PlayStation was above 360k concurrent. They simply couldn't be prepared to go that far beyond expectations.
Would you say its a still a good buy if you know you wont be co-oping with friends? It looks like an amazing game but I dont know if Ill be able to play it cause none of my friends like shooters.
If you're not pressed for money I'd say try it out. Despite the current server issues, you shouldn't run into problems with finding a group of random other players, even on the higher difficulties. The higher difficulties either need a group of people who know what they're doing or good communication, but the game does feature voice chat.
Worth every dollar. Got to lvl 15 in a day lol. Its been a while since ive been genuinely addicted to a game and helldivers is bringing that out again. Imo there’s only one thing “wrong” with the game. If you’re last alive in a horde of bugs, you’re fucked. You have no chance of survival bc no matter how many you kill, there’s still just as many as before. And if you try to run, then the flying ones just jump at you and slap you until you die. Then again this is still cool bc its cinematic the way you’re fighting off the endless horde with death certain.
It is INSANE to me that you are the first one to mention 75 cents for a helmet after watching like more than ten videos about hd2… people are missing the trees for the forest on this one
Easiest way to work around 99% of glitches, look for low player planets. Right now that would be the automatons but that could easily change in the future. Everyone is going hard on the major operation bug planets, making them a bit unstable it seems.
Server and matchmaking issues are caused by the devs didnt put beta test and they didnt know the game will blow up since they are a small studio creating an AAA game
Solo can be done, but it will be tough. Higher difficulties will require some expert play. You can legitimately play stealth though. I’ve just unlocked some armour and a rifle that should let me do that (haven’t tried yet). You can use smoke grenades or stratagems to block line of sight etc. just go the long way around and be cautious. It’s still good to drop in with randoms though 👍 Edit: you don’t get bots. You can call in an sos beacon to allow people to join you if it goes a bit hairy.
As far as I have experienced 7 hours deep, picking up super credits in missions have never been successfully added to my account. Still sitting at 100 SC after 10 missions...
I'm really hoping they add color customization to the armor and maybe even guns. I wanna mix and match armor but the colors ruins it. Otherwise everything is awesome. Also, new war bonds each month??? Holy helldiver!
Ive been a ride or die Destiny player for years now but Helldivers might make me quit Destiny hasn't changed and Helldivers seems like the perfect game for pve players to migrate to Plus the character drip being Titan x Hunter = Mandalorian is just amazing and can only get better
I think there should be a bonus exp boost for solo players nothing extreme but something that could help ie two extra respawns or a extra 10 minutes would be epic

so the issue with "pay to win" isnt an issue of prices of things... like, I'm cool with counter strike and how they monetize because the skins have no effect on the game and there is no reason you would need to buy them. Can you play the game with a good experience without spending a single dollar? Does paying money give you an advantage? I didnt catch if the armor was cosmetic only or not. Could I zoom pass all my friends in this game by simply buying myself better items?
there is no price too high for Liberty and Democracy!!!!!!!! liked the game so much I even got the premium warbond, but if you dont, there are alot of stuff to buy from normal warbond as well, which is included!
Not to argue against your point about the microtransactions at all, this all sounds great and makes me want it more, but... Part of me can't help but worry they'll change these things, slowly even. Just tweaking it all to be gradually more predatory. That's really just my cynical concern though, and I acknowledge that. I do still want to believe in the best for this game because it looks absolutely awesome.

It’s absolutely pay to win. Starting off with the deluxe version or whatever you get access to an smg and some armor. Immediately diversifying your load outs and thus making it more likely for you to succeed on each mission. Throw on top that the only medium armor piercing primary (at least to my knowledge) is currently in the premium pass. It’s not egregious, and I prefer this to legit any other monetization scheme out there. But, let’s not act like it isn’t pay to win, it absolutely is. Not saying it’s Lost Ark level of p2w, but let’s also not lie and say it’s not at all. All of this to say that I absolutely love this game. So let’s not disrespect the people who haven’t played. Worst thing to find out about a game is that the thing everyone defended the game from was true.

Just because the benefits are marginal compared to other games, and they are only timgated for so long until a non-paying player has enough currency to buy the premium pass, does not remove the pay to win title. All it does is allow the community to explain why pay to win works for this game, and why it’s not a bad system with how it’s implemented in this game.

Oh, the devs are deffo working behind the scenes, in more ways than one. They have a system that allows them to look at how people play and make adjustments to strategy etc. They can also observe your game real time and make adjustments to help or hinder you. It’s basically a dungeon master system. These guys are insane. Their first game has been going for 9 years. I think this one is a safe bet 👍
I have been playing it with randoms and it is still a blast. It is better with a group of friends as the chat and team cohesion is better. But most my gaming time is with randoms. and I would still highly recommend this game.

It depends how good you are at shooters I suppose. But it is easy enough to team up with randoms if you choose, it's still a lot of fun. The best experience is definitely with a group of mates, as the chat and team cohesion is better.
To be fair on the pricing of the cosmetics (specifically armor), you can clearly see they aren't remotely the best looking. So it would have been criminal to charge anything less. P.s. im not remotely hating on the game and think this is a great thing to have, but to compare these prices with other games (like Destiny 2 for instance) is a stretch. One is very bland and basic and the other have dedicated teams creating unique armor pieces.
Yeah. The ultra high lethality of your weapons, the chaos of battle and the big AoE's being thrown around tend to do that. (You are *never* sufficiently far away from a 380mm barrage.)
It is actually part of the fun. The fights are so intense their are bullets and bombs being set off everywhere as you try to survive. But it makes for killer gameplay. (excuse the pun)
Super credit can be earn from exploring the map you playing except defend mission map. 10 SC per pick up so it not P2W, i dont get these people...they probably never play the game
I haven't got a great group of friends, So I have been playing it with randoms. It is still a blast. It is better with people you know as there is a lot more chat and cohesion. But there is a lot of fun to be had either way.
Dude a pay to win system is just a system that gives you specs or bonuses that you wouldn’t have if you didint spend money,it’s not stupid to say this game has “pay to win aspects” but no I also don’t think the aspect are that bad.
Something important you forgot to mention: FOMO does not exist as warbonds (aka season passes) are always available even when the next one drops!

Honestly, its hard to find a good game these day. HELLDIVER 2 came out it was the best game i play for a long time. I hope more content for the future

So im happy to spend some more money ingame for cosmetics to appreciate that.
You have the nice feeling of slaying hordes like in deep rock galactic or diablo. You have the feeling of unity and a bigger cause like in planetside 2. The gun gameplay itself just feels good. Movement is smooth guns feel great, tons of different playstyles due to tons of different gadgets you can bring into a fight. Everyone will find something that fits them. Cheap but good looking skins. No pay 2 win. Awesome graphics. Again love to detail. Just standing in your ship looking down feels so great. The humor of the game is hilarious. Its challanging. Its fun, its addictive.
Im glad we got this game and im glad it has so many players and success. Hopefully this makes the big AAA-Studios question their boring approach of creating the same game over and over and over again year by year the same mechanics with just a reskin.
This brings fresh air and i really really really hope the gaming industry takes that as an opportunity to take risks again to create games again that are actually fun to earn money instead of running the same stupid approach every single time to melk the money cow.

You can change the rpm of the machine gun or others weapons, you can also adjust the zoom of the scope on certain rifle, or even turn off/on your flashlight

The major addicting thing for me is the music and hellpod launch animations. Hypes me up everytime and i sometimes just play a mission to see the launch sequence😂

The monetisation bit is what I really appreciate about Helldivers 2. It respects the player's time, and it motivates players to continue playing to get premium currency, whilst others can spend money instead of their time, giving players OPTIONS. Destiny 2 has just released the new Mass Effect sets, and I have never spent any money on silver, and I was going to do it this time, but 2000 silver for each set, and since I play all three characters and want all three, 6000 silver just for the sets would cost me £40. That is the price of Helldivers 2!

highly recommended! its an amalgamation of horde shooters (L4D inspired: WWZ, Vermintide, and DRG) checking out all the criteria of what make a team-oriented game which is engaging and still fun and has a rewarding character progression w/ appreciable changes. A+ for Starship Trooper B-rated comedy. as of now optimization would a welcome one or an ideal regional price to sooth its Beta state of release in PC.

Bought it last evening and almost forgot to get some sleep before the work next day. It's a blast!
Devs did a gacha moment. Yeah you can buy the first 2 armors just fine. but on the second day it's impossible to get the next armor unless you grind like a zombie. 100 super credits then they limit it to 50 super credits. Kinda smart on their part actually. Will force you out to buy their game currency. It's only cosmetic of course...

in the patch note i noticed they said something about the servers apparently like you said they did not expect to have so many ppl on at once so it messed with the servers i just really think this goes to show they did not expect their game to be very very popular
They prepped for about 120k total. The peak, considering the servers work for both PC and PlayStation was above 360k concurrent. They simply couldn't be prepared to go that far beyond expectations.

Would you say its a still a good buy if you know you wont be co-oping with friends? It looks like an amazing game but I dont know if Ill be able to play it cause none of my friends like shooters.
If you're not pressed for money I'd say try it out. Despite the current server issues, you shouldn't run into problems with finding a group of random other players, even on the higher difficulties. The higher difficulties either need a group of people who know what they're doing or good communication, but the game does feature voice chat.

Worth every dollar. Got to lvl 15 in a day lol. Its been a while since ive been genuinely addicted to a game and helldivers is bringing that out again. Imo there’s only one thing “wrong” with the game. If you’re last alive in a horde of bugs, you’re fucked. You have no chance of survival bc no matter how many you kill, there’s still just as many as before. And if you try to run, then the flying ones just jump at you and slap you until you die. Then again this is still cool bc its cinematic the way you’re fighting off the endless horde with death certain.
Try light armor and run a grenade launcher. You won't kill the big bugs, but you'll definetly be able to run and take down nests all by yourself.
Good stuff. Got the game and having a blast - despite the server issues.
The last time i was this happy with a brand new game i paid 40 bucks for, it was the first Unreal game.

Easiest way to work around 99% of glitches, look for low player planets. Right now that would be the automatons but that could easily change in the future. Everyone is going hard on the major operation bug planets, making them a bit unstable it seems.
Server and matchmaking issues are caused by the devs didnt put beta test and they didnt know the game will blow up since they are a small studio creating an AAA game
How is it for solo play? Do you have bots to help out? Is it much harder?
Solo can be done, but it will be tough. Higher difficulties will require some expert play. You can legitimately play stealth though. I’ve just unlocked some armour and a rifle that should let me do that (haven’t tried yet). You can use smoke grenades or stratagems to block line of sight etc. just go the long way around and be cautious. It’s still good to drop in with randoms though 👍
Edit: you don’t get bots. You can call in an sos beacon to allow people to join you if it goes a bit hairy.

As far as I have experienced 7 hours deep, picking up super credits in missions have never been successfully added to my account. Still sitting at 100 SC after 10 missions...
Bug for that is subject to a work around, you'll need to log off and log back on for it to update the display.

so the issue with "pay to win" isnt an issue of prices of things... like, I'm cool with counter strike and how they monetize because the skins have no effect on the game and there is no reason you would need to buy them. Can you play the game with a good experience without spending a single dollar? Does paying money give you an advantage? I didnt catch if the armor was cosmetic only or not. Could I zoom pass all my friends in this game by simply buying myself better items?

Not to argue against your point about the microtransactions at all, this all sounds great and makes me want it more, but... Part of me can't help but worry they'll change these things, slowly even. Just tweaking it all to be gradually more predatory.
That's really just my cynical concern though, and I acknowledge that. I do still want to believe in the best for this game because it looks absolutely awesome.

It’s absolutely pay to win. Starting off with the deluxe version or whatever you get access to an smg and some armor. Immediately diversifying your load outs and thus making it more likely for you to succeed on each mission. Throw on top that the only medium armor piercing primary (at least to my knowledge) is currently in the premium pass.
It’s not egregious, and I prefer this to legit any other monetization scheme out there. But, let’s not act like it isn’t pay to win, it absolutely is. Not saying it’s Lost Ark level of p2w, but let’s also not lie and say it’s not at all.
All of this to say that I absolutely love this game. So let’s not disrespect the people who haven’t played. Worst thing to find out about a game is that the thing everyone defended the game from was true.

If you’d actually read what I said, it’s not egregious. In fact, I said that I do prefer this game’s monetization style over almost any other game’s.
Simple fact is that it is pay to win. The ability to grind out the premium currency does not remove that. It just places a timegate on how long a paying player has an advantage. But, the fact remains that a paying player does hold an advantage over a non-paying player.
I’m not hating on the game, I’ve already played almost 15 hours and I intend to put in many more. I just don’t like the level of false advertising that the community is putting out. Let’s explain why this system isn’t as bad as people think. Rather than trying to gaslight ourselves and the people that are looking to get into the game.

Pay to win does not mean that you cannot lose. It just means that you have an advantage over players who don’t pay. You do in fact get in-game benefits through a wider weapon and armor selection.
It is pay to win. So rather than deny the obvious, why don’t we spend our time explaining how the system is actually good.
Just because the benefits are marginal compared to other games, and they are only timgated for so long until a non-paying player has enough currency to buy the premium pass, does not remove the pay to win title. All it does is allow the community to explain why pay to win works for this game, and why it’s not a bad system with how it’s implemented in this game.

Oh, the devs are deffo working behind the scenes, in more ways than one. They have a system that allows them to look at how people play and make adjustments to strategy etc. They can also observe your game real time and make adjustments to help or hinder you. It’s basically a dungeon master system. These guys are insane. Their first game has been going for 9 years. I think this one is a safe bet 👍

I have been playing it with randoms and it is still a blast. It is better with a group of friends as the chat and team cohesion is better. But most my gaming time is with randoms. and I would still highly recommend this game.

It depends how good you are at shooters I suppose. But it is easy enough to team up with randoms if you choose, it's still a lot of fun. The best experience is definitely with a group of mates, as the chat and team cohesion is better.
To be fair on the pricing of the cosmetics (specifically armor), you can clearly see they aren't remotely the best looking. So it would have been criminal to charge anything less.
P.s. im not remotely hating on the game and think this is a great thing to have, but to compare these prices with other games (like Destiny 2 for instance) is a stretch. One is very bland and basic and the other have dedicated teams creating unique armor pieces.

Yeah. The ultra high lethality of your weapons, the chaos of battle and the big AoE's being thrown around tend to do that. (You are *never* sufficiently far away from a 380mm barrage.)
It is actually part of the fun. The fights are so intense their are bullets and bombs being set off everywhere as you try to survive. But it makes for killer gameplay. (excuse the pun)

I haven't got a great group of friends, So I have been playing it with randoms. It is still a blast. It is better with people you know as there is a lot more chat and cohesion. But there is a lot of fun to be had either way.
