Every time there was a shot of Sarah or James that they hadn't filmed themselves all I could think of was the person standing alone in a dark field for 98% of this challenge 😂 TRC team you are all awesome!
And the carkeys were never seen again, since then some people swear they can here them rattle in the dark across the fields when the moon is full and runners come out to play. Great vid! Much fun
In November 2020 I was running in the dark near some woodlands, heard an owl hoot and looked up. The beam from my cheap Lidl head torch caught an owl flying silently directly overhead. In a different run I was spooked by seeing horses' eyes reflecting back at me from across a canal.
Love a good night run! 🔦 Though one night, out in the Adelaide Hills, our run group came across a lone guy, out in the forest, dark trails, no headlamp or torch...he was obviously just out enjoying a wander around in the pitch black (😮). That was a bloomin heart starter!! Scared the bejigglies out of us!
Loved this, it looks like so much fun! They were so funny. Running at night is magical as long as you can control your nerves. When your vision is limited, it amplifies your other senses, and you experience the sounds, smells, and even how things FEEL so much more intensely. I LOVE hiking at night, but running has to be on relatively groomed trails, since I'm not terribly coordinated. (I try to do most of my miles on the trails. )
Really enjoying the orienteering videos; wish I could join you! Great work to the team, lotsa of fun and showing the versatility of running as an activity.
What a fun adventure! Night running / racing definitely offers some different challenges. I've never run particularly well even on a semi-lighted course. It is a lot harder to judge your pace while running in darkness. Fun challenge and as always enjoy your content.
A couple of years ago I ran a nighttime trail race and last summer I ran my first overnight marathon. To train for this marathon, I did my training runs at night, culminating with a 20 mile run starting at 10 PM. Normally, my runs start between 5 and 7 AM, so that was quite the difference. The biggest challenge was nutrition. How do you run with a day's worth of food in your gut? Answer: not well. As far as training in the dark, anyone familiar with the Schuylkill River Trail in Pennsylvania probably knows the section that comes up to the Betzwood trailhead. It is fully enclosed with a forest canopy and it feels like you're heading to Mordor. I've broken some speed records there because of my imagination. "... I have a phobia that someone's always near..."
I remember pulling over on a drive in the middle of the desert one year and it was a darkness that I couldn't even understand. I don't know how people run through the night in remote mountains!
Love it! Although did James take Sarahs car keys as well so that she would miss them 😂😂 Hopefully we'll see more of James presenting soon, love seeing him on the TRC!
LOVE night runs - we have a local half and full marathon on trails, starts at midnight on various occasions through the year. BEST of fun! Killer hills, medieval trails and packhorse routes, forests, wildlife... highly recommended!
I LOVE running at night, everything is much more quiet and peaceful. I run without a headlight and only reflected and some blue and red light, that can be seen from my back, so cars and other can see me. I love running out in the countryside and in the forest, even at night. I have a very good nightvision ;) :D
I might do a one mile warm up before my main run if the gate to the local park is still open this evening. With no head torch. It’s amazing how quickly the eyes adapt.
I enjoy running in the woods before any morning light could be seen. Just depending on the tiny head lamp. It is exhilarating to enter the pitch dark trail not knowing what may be awaiting for you... a huge monitor lizard, a wild boar or king cobra overhanging on tree branches across the trail. These are some animal commonly sighted during the day. But I guess the scariest of all may be human. Once I did stuttered 2 ladies while I ran past them.
Fun challenge! 😁 I do a lot of my runs at night during winter, the only problem is that the trails are full of boars 🐗 . They’re harmless for the most part but hearing the bushes move right at your side at night is scary 😱 so at night I usually run with music 😅
@@runningchannel Hi TRC …I run alone most of the time but occasionally with friends. The biggest issue for me is bloomin’ badgers! I have an enormous respect for their space, but I seem to bump into the blighters time and again - there’s usually an awkward Mexican Standoff - and then I and the Badger du Jour scarper in opposite directions! An extra frisson of excitement to the Night Run!! 😂
The evel person in would as soon as i saw the other persons headlight would have turned my headlight of and scare the living daylight out of the other person. Nice video
With this video, you had me in the first minute. To make it a three party fair challenge, why did you not add Andy? I mean with a paper map and old oil lantern of course ;-)
We try and have a wide range of content, so appreciate that not all videos will appeal to everyone. We value your feedback and hope you can enjoy our other videos.

Love that you all come up with unique challenges. I really want to do more night running.
The result of lots of sitting around the office, trying to out do each other with crazy ideas! Glad to hear you enjoyed it.
Fun

And so the urban legend was born 😂 Thanks Paul!

I own horses, and can confirm they're super spooky looking in the dark! 😆
As someone who runs 90% of my miles in the dark, I love seeing these kind of challenges! Keep up the great work! ❤❤❤🏃♀️🏃❤❤❤
Glad you like them!
mountain running at night is magical.... And scary !! I always run PBs whenever i do my mountain loop early morning........
It does sound like it would be an amazing experience!
Love a good night run! 🔦

Great video!!! So funny watching you both running scared in the dark 😱 Makes me want to get out and run!!!

Such a fun video. Love this! James is one of my favorite guest runners on the channel.
Glad you enjoyed it! James is always a joy to work with and you'll be seeing him again very soon.
This was such a fun challenge!
Also nice to see James on the channel again
Glad you enjoyed it. James is always welcome at House TRC.

Great challenge. Really enjoyed that. Thanks all
Yet another awesome challenge! U guys are the best
Thanks 😁 Would you ever take on the challenge?
Love it! Although did James take Sarahs car keys as well so that she would miss them 😂😂 Hopefully we'll see more of James presenting soon, love seeing him on the TRC!
Well you are in for a treat as James will be back on the TRC beat in a couple of weeks.
@@runningchannel exactly what I love to hear 🤟
I've done a few night time trail races this winter season. Lots of fun. It's amazing how much the sensory deprivation changes things.
It really is! Do you prefer racing at night?
loved this!
LOVE night runs - we have a local half and full marathon on trails, starts at midnight on various occasions through the year. BEST of fun! Killer hills, medieval trails and packhorse routes, forests, wildlife... highly recommended!
I almost always run in the dark, but not also with sheep! I did try dark + mud once and got 6 stitches for my trouble!
Oh dear, that was Sarah's EXACT fear!
Very funny commentary from both James and Sarah. Well done both.
Hearing James call himself a 'countryside boy' to bolster himself really made me giggle XD
Welcome James. Messing about in the dark is always great fun. 😁
It sure is. Thanks for watching!
That would probably have been my worst nightmare. Great work. 👍🏻
Glad you enjoyed it Simon!

My favourite challenge yet! I love running in the dark but I still jump if I see eyes in the trees 🤣
Thanks Aileen, glad you enjoyed it 😊 you start to see eyes everywhere when you run in the dark!
I might sit in my car and have a little cry.
Legend. 😂🤣
Love these challenges!!!

Do stay safe out there Den, it can get much too dark very quickly at this time of year.
I did do it and survived. No need to worry I know the park very well and used to do 6 miles in the dark. It’s good fun.

You have inspired me! Tonight's the night for a cheeky run in the woods 😉
Have fun! Just make sure you share your location 💪

Love night running ❤️…and yes - a good head torch is essential! 👻 Well Done 🙌
Glad you enjoyed it Amanda 😊 Do you run solo or in a group?

My 2 favorites!
The evel person in would as soon as i saw the other persons headlight would have turned my headlight of and scare the living daylight out of the other person. Nice video
Oh Jan, that's just cruel! Can't believe we didn't think to do that to Sarah! 😂😂😂
I have done two 10 Mile night time trail runs in the past. That looked like a lot of fun 😊
Great job
Glad to hear you enjoyed it.
Thank you for your entertaining videos. We really need the levity right now.
Really glad you enjoy them Rachel 😁
Never raced in it but most of my running is in the dark,if you really want to make it interesting you need to chuck in some thick fog too!
Hahah thanks for the suggestion Ollie!
Most of my runs are in the dark and on the trails. Looks like a normal Thursday morning to me...minus the wooded and hilly trails. 👍😃
Superb 😊❤️
Hi guys, you should do a video on the Barkley Marathons, I bet Anna would blast through it!
Super video
With this video, you had me in the first minute. To make it a three party fair challenge, why did you not add Andy? I mean with a paper map and old oil lantern of course ;-)
I uh don't live uh in a good neighborhood... and have never so much as considered running in the dark before. This is a wild concept to me 😂
1000th like!!
Congratulations! Dark running is harder as the darkness can play on our primal fears.
It's the sensory depredation. You just don't know whats behind and infront of you!
That was fun. A little like a thinly attended Hash House Harriers' event without the pub at the finish.
Next time?
That was fun - like the running version of the Blair Witch Project! Great job!
Love it.
Glad to hear you enjoyed it Michael!
I've been very keen to see the Evadict Race-Light shoes in action that you were wearing. There are no English reviews/ features. Hopefully next time
I'd love to see the dog owners at The Running Channel do some sort of Canicross challenge!
'Do I push her over' haha
James is back!! This was a great challenge to watch. Maybe one day I'll run in the dark...big maybe.😅
Go for it Brooke!
Good job 👍
Thanks 👍 Glad you enjoyed it!
Looks fun though will give this a miss as my night vision has never been the best and has gotten worse with age.
You can still do a fun orienteering race in the day 😊
I cant even go to a haunted house, this would make me terrified 🙈
Hahah you could always do it with a partner?
Nahhhh nope nadda nooooo way...never trying this!
ha! You never know Dave, you might love it!
I love running at night, 95 % of my running none then.
That was fun.
I wonder how you’d fair doing a blind race - say two running 5k and two acting as your guides?
Ooooo thanks for the suggestions Laura!
Where are you from,, what is your country name
Running can be fun 🙂Right
The TRC are thieves, they stole Sarah’s car
ha! If you saw Sarah's car, you'd know we were doing her a favour!
Any 4 ft tall encounters 👾
Would have been amazing if instead of the picture of the dog on the poster it was the Kraken instead.
😂😂😂😂😂
100 lumen jobby??? 😂
Really dont like these 'top gear' style challenges
