How many loops could you do? 🤔
I'd love to find out
Maybe 80
I’d be happy with 6 and amazed if I got to 10.
I'll find out as have the Highlander Backyard in July 😬. Was hoping for at least 12 laps but this has made me rethink that! Any tips that you would or wouldn't do with hindsight?
How much elevation? I just did a trail with quite challenging terrain and it took me 4:45 for 23k with 1750 m of elevation. I’d guess it’s hard to say i never did a race over 8hrs
As a household that is predominately female we love seeing Anna. The humor, strength and truth she brings is wonderful. She’s not squeamish and puts it all out there. Good role model for young girls .
Really glad to hear that 😁 Have any of you got any races coming up?
@@runningchannel As a family, we have all gotten the running bug. We have a range of ages interested in virtual runs, with the youngest wanting to do the GET TO SESAME STREET CHALLENGE and older ones wanting to do the London and Mount FUJI challenge. Adults want to get fit enough to run a 5k and grow their running abilities.
Anna is my inspiration! Such a trooper!
Yup. I came for Anna.
As a man there's always going to be a limit on how I can advise my daughter about periods and training (and in general) so to see it mentioned by someone that actually has them is great, most shows would ignore the issue and male coaches just don't have the experience to do it justice, it would be great to see a show about how to work with your cycle to minimise negative effects on training and health but also maximise performance and enjoyment in training from people who actually experience it.
The more it is normalised in the media the better as there is definately not enough info out there and still viewed as a taboo subject by many.
Love this comment - this is EXACTLY why I’ll never stop bleating on about it!
A TRUE running channel. Poop, period, eat all the food, vomit, and just keep going. Things runners talk about
😂 🙌
Anywhere else it's all taboo, but as a runner, this is all critical information!
I absolutely loved this weekend, would have been great if you guys had come back after a few hours sleep to watch and film the epic finale though!
I was very pleased to have got 25 laps in the bag, will be aiming for the big 30+ next time
25 laps is great, well done! What was the winning distance this time?
Good luck for you next time 🤞🤞
Thought I saw a friendly face on the video. Well done on 25 laps that’s insane 👏
@@FierySoul44Tibia great to hear from you! Hope life is treating you well, are you still running?
Would love to see an in depth video about the menstural cycle and training. Like I know there's some science behind what days/weeks of your cycle you're more prepared to train harder and whatever but don't know much and especially don't know much in relation to planning a running calendar. Would be super helpful not only for me but a huge amount of the audience -- even if they don't experience periods themselves!
Great suggestion!
Get a diary and write how your workouts go compared to your period.
Even without one, you know those days where you feel you could go Steaming Ears Nuclear Karen over a pin drop? Those are your best training days.
Lovely to see Anna back again, she's so inspiring and such a down to earth person!
Ahh, thank you, that’s so kind 😊
Besides her being a good role model ,she is also quite lovely to look at in my opinion. Cheers from the USA
As an ultra fan (with a 50 miler next Friday) I loved watching this!! I did 13 laps on my backyard debut last September, and will definitely be back for more!
Huge amount of respect to you guys for doing this race. My friend raced in one in Perth a few months ago. The winner ended up going for 3 days!!! It’s nuts!!!
Wow that's incredible!! 💪🎉
I don’t really run anymore, but the idea of a backyard ultra got me thinking about it again. I love the idea that winning is not, ultimately, about speed, as long as you can finish the 4+ miles in an hour. I think this is a brilliant idea.
Good to see Anna running again. I had wondered how she recovered from that 115 miler🤯🤯
Anna, you continue to inspire me with my running journey. Well done on an amazing try at that event.
Same, watching her gives me hope for my first ultra next month!
@@christinawarren1187 Good luck, I am working towards my first ultra later this year too.
Thank you so much 🙏🏼 and GOOD LUCK with the ultras. If you need any help or advice. Or just someone to offload worries onto, please just drop me a message ❤ I love to see women do hard things
Love MO and Anna! Mo's first but not Anna's 🎉🎉😅 "whendowegoagain, whendowegoagain" and the Legendary James Dunn! Brilliant ❤
Love seeing Anna! ❤ So proud of Mo! And I always love how real all the runners are about everything that comes with this ultramarathon.
Thank you! What would you us to take on next??
As a guy runner, wow major respect to Anna and other Women who have this happen during a run. Keep going strong!
Loved seeing Anna's segment!! Inspirational.
So much to love here!! Congrats to you all!! Honestly, food is one of my favorite parts of ultras. What other race can you wolf down a piece of pizza, donuts, or a bowl of bacon mac n cheese while you run!? 😂Way to go on your first ultra, Mo, and love Eric's choice of bib number. Great job Anna! Some folks will never appreciate the added struggles of running an ultra on your period! Thankfully I have a mature understanding husband who will happily massage my aching back, stuff chocolate in my mouth, and have the necessary supplies at the ready! I'm going to do one of these this year, but they sell out almost immediately!
Anna, I always love seeing you taking on these challenges! Congratulations!
Thanks!
🙏🏼 it’s a good job I like doing them 😉
@@anna.the.runner check out Mooncups and change your life.
@trixie bacon I worry that without running water I may come unstuck??
@@anna.the.runner Obvs, nothing new on race day, and Mooncups need a couple of months' practise, but really, you don't need water every time. Get an original one and try it out. Two months and you'll be a convert, it's worth getting the hang of it. (I don't work for Mooncup, btw 🙂)
Great job all, tough challenge! Looked like a lovely route to run 🏃♂️🏃♀️
So this is what the running around with cameras was for! Good job folks
I think sometimes people can underestimate backyard ultras. It may look easy from the outside looking in but it's a mental game with your mind to keep going. The constant stopping and going doesn't help either. It gives a chance for your feet and legs to stiffen. Congratulations to everyone! Job well done 👏
It’s SO much harder than it looks. I was definitely guilty of being quite blasé going into it 😅 looking forward to giving it another crack when I’m not going into it feeling crappy
That yellow sign in the woods! Talk about screwing with your mind! 😝😝
That was amazing and completely entertaining! Kudos to everyone for going beyond! Absolutely fantastic! Love TRC!
Glad you liked it Wilson! Has it made you want to do a Backyard Ultra or run away from them? 😂
Well done you guys! So fun to watch your attempts. I hit 10 laps in my debut as my first ultra as well, went on to get 14 laps nearly 2 years ago, and have another in June this year hoping for my moonshot of 100 miles in 24 hours.
Well done, everyone! I don't think I ever want to do this. I like just running. Stoppong and starting must of been brutal.
I love the trees.
Well done!! I remember seeing you guys on the day (and night!). Great video!
Have been looking foreward to this episode. Great stuff everyone.
Well done, think Lazerus hits the nail on the head with his comment, Backyard Ultras are easy until they are not. We had a massive one in Perth, Australia called Herdy's Front Yard with 296 starters, I had grand plans to get to at least 100km or 15 loops but unfortunately only managed 7!
Haha I was doing the math to see what 100k was during this video! But yeah I'd be lucky to last 7 myself. I just looked in my area and there's a backyard ultra a couple of hours away...
I live pretty much on Herdsman Lake and was cheering you guys on. What an amazing achievement!
Mo saying “I’ve already died in here” is hilarious hahaha.
😂😂😂
This video is perfect timing for me- I’ve got my first backyard ultra this weekend!! Congrats on the epic effort everyone!
Amazing Caitlin! Which one are you taking on?
I agree with Anna, cup/disk + period pants is the way! Test the pants first though, they're more like to chafe than your regular ones :)
Do you prefer a certain brand? I tried Thinx during a 50k, and was not impressed. (I understand they're not exactly designed for that. )
@@Kelly_Ben I use Knix (for marathon distance), as back up to the cup. I wear them on non period days too cause I sweat a lot. But a friend tried knix during a half and still has chafe scars... so I guess they're not for everyone!
There is a similar race in Cornwall - part of the mudcrew races called ‘bring out your dead’. Absolutely brutal. You all did so so well! Great effort all round 💪💪
I'm just amazed at the 33 miles clocked! that's bloody amazing! You may be the first out of the TRC group but that is just an incredible feat! where I feel like I would last right now? probably only 4 laps.
I've been wanting the Running Channel to make this video for months, thank you for making this. I'm hoping to do a Last One Standing, probably next year once I've built up for it. There's usually 2 or three in Northern Ireland each year, one around February, and two more around Summer/Autumn.
Yay I was excited for this one! :)
That was amazing to watch! What 🌟 you all are.
James and Anna, you two are my heroes.
Mo- what a fantastic effort. You really are awesome 🎉🎉
Thanks Sarah! We’re really glad you enjoyed it 🥰 would you take on a race like this?
@@runningchannel never say never but I came a little late to the party. I’m early 50’s with 7 kids. (It makes Andy Badderly’s brood seem like nothing😜) my body has been put through lots. But I do like a challenge and you guys inspire me heaps. In my mind I am unstoppable but in reality…..that may not be the case🤣
I cried watching you, thanks for being vulnerable like that ❤
Hi Guys, LOVE this video. I'm running this event on Saturday (in two days) and I'm superbly nervous. I've been avoiding looking at too many videos so as not to worry myself. I've run 8 ultras but this is the first time of anything like it for me.
However, I'm so glad I found your video. I'm a keen listener of the Podcast and love that, I'll now be a keen watcher too.
Thank you for this video, it's made me feel a lot better and calmed my nerves about tomorrow.
Thanks for capturing the reality of this event. Doesn't seem that bad when you first hear about it, but the top of the hour just keeps coming.
love this! Well done guys!! :) not sure i could do that!!
Was great to see you from afar on the day and cheer you on as you set off on a couple of your laps. I love the rasselbock events - I’m back at pines next weekend to marshal again
Thanks for being a volunteer! You rock! 🌻
Brutal race!
15 participants from my homeland took part in the race simultaneously with the rest of the participating countries last year. That race ended at the 51st lap when the last 2nd man could not make it back to the finish line by the stroke of the hour. Although it was half of what the 2 runners from Belgium did, it was still highly respectable.
The theme of honesty continues!!!
Always. Never sugar coat it! 😅
That looks soooooo brutal. Massive well done to all of you.
Nice one, congrats all of you!
Thanks for keeping it real guys! 😊
Anna, your vids are always a great watch 💪👍
Thanks! The guys did alright too, I guess 👀 😂
Last year I did a mini backyard by and for myself, with 2km every hour for 24 hours (and 2km bonus to tip 50km in 24 hours). I would love trying a 4km-every-hour-race before attempting a 6km every hour, but not sure that kind of race exist 😆
Loved this, and seeing so many of my friends running it. I would get timed out on the first lap most likely so no real point in entering, would need an event with slightly shorter loops for slow people.
Great to see Eric get his big moment! Maybe I'll be there next year with some The Green Runners crew :)
This looks so cool!! Congratulations to you all guys, keep inspiring us with your running 🔥 🔥🔥
Really glad you enjoyed it Kate!
Looks like a beautiful location for a backyard!
Great job guys!
Thanks Eric! 😁
Well done everyone, brilliant effort 🎉
This is so awesome!! Now I want to do a backyard ultra!
You should! Have yo got any near you?
Well done guys!!!! 🎉
this sounds both mental and amazing - thinking about entering one for 2024 :) - great video by the way and well done to you all.
Incredible runners and incredible team. I was behind the scenes (2:09 with the shoes) and the effort that goes into hosting one of these ... wow.
Congratulations to Richard Thompson, with an incredible 36 Yards and Karan Nicol right behind at 35 breaking the UK womens record.
Ill remember this event for ever, Rasselbock Running taking over, remember the name! :D
Y’all are just amazing!
I work in the forest and all I can say is well done. I watched the race as you all came past 🙂
Definitely want to try this. I live by a major salmon river and think this would be a tribute to their amazing life cycle and the attrition they experience to replenish the species! Okay maybe a little dramatic. Still it looks so cool and I’d think I might get 15. Well done Mo!
Well done guys good running all round! 🙌
Inspirational! Once again…
Excellent concept, love the vid 👍
Cool video from such an awesome event. I was on the registration desk, and then out at marshal point 3 for the first few hours - it was great seeing you guys take part!
Yay for volunteering! Well done! 🏆
what's the event called. I dont remember hearing them name it in the video
@@zacclowes4999 it was the Rasselbock Running Backyard Ultra 👍
Such a tough but fun event!
Fantastic video well done to all 😊
Wow just seen this video, congratulations the Running Channel, you all did so wonderfully well. Also praise to Mo, the best of the DNFs. Yikees all that effort just to not finish! Haha 😂
What a cool concept!
Great job! That race looked like a lot of fun. Race with friends or dnf with friends. 😎
It's so much fun! Are you thinking of signing up?
Oh Anna, you are the best! ❤
That is a tough event and I'm impressed. Team Running Channel covered itself with glory.
How many laps could I do? If I could avoid cramp I reckon I could keep going five days easily enough, if the rules allowed me to have a sedan chair and a large, rotating team of cabmen.
😂😂
Great video, looks so tough. I love that bell sound effect for the start of each lap
Glad you enjoyed it Robert! Would you give a backyard ultra a go?
@@runningchannel I'm running my first marathon in October (Dublin) so I'll get through that first before looking at any ultras!
Not sure why, but I’m most proudest of Anna 😊
Thank you 🙏🏼 that’s super kind
Great running all especially Mo 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
The sign at 10:28 broke me now. Can't imagine seeing that at 2am.
Fantastic everyone
On my own I reckon 4 but running with Anna I reckon 5/6 - a bubbly/funny/moral boosting person to run with i reckon, another great watch. :)
I ran my backyard ultra on 11th of march. It was a virtual event so most contenders started from their own house and we uploaded our laps through strava.
My furthest distance run before this run was a marathon. At this event I managed to run 11 laps of 6.7km resulting in 74km of running.
The food I arranged for myself was great and we had amazing weather. Physically, even after 11 laps, I was okay but my energy supplies got depleted.
Something to work on for the next time but it was a really nice day.
so much pain - yet you are all so happy doing it. Cudos
Thanks John! It was tough but worth it! 😁💪
I love the camaraderie :)
Congratulations Mo on your first ultra🎉🎉
Thanks Lauren!! 😁
Brutal- gotta try one of these👏
Brilliant! Barkleys next year, then...😁
Been waiting for this one, having signed up for my first backyard (they are very popular in Sweden)
Brilliant! Are you looking forward to it?
"Which do you most can't the least? Run?" Ah yes, good point!
I like to think I’m pretty good at grammar but I can’t make sense of this sentence. Anyone care to break it down for me?! 10:26
I did one of these and timed out on the 14th loop - it was a good 30km longer than I'd ever gone before. It's such a good format for pushing yourself just a little bit further! Such a wild experience, though... food started to taste like literal ash, and the few of us who were left were pretty loopy. It was in Germany, and my German is only passable, so by the time I finished I couldn't for the life of me understand what anyone was saying lol
Absolutely loved this. It’s made me think about doing an ultra. Looks savage but fun. Brummierunner
Go and give it a go! It's so much fun 😁 Any particular ultramarathons in mind?
I always find it fascinating how running influencers can vlog while running - it always hurts my breathing when I try to speak much during a run 😅
Y’all are amazing
Loved the video, and the achievement! Would have loved to see what the final results were for the event 🤔
If you head over to Rasselbock runnings website you’ll see the full results there 🙌🏻
Great vid! And nobody talking about the awesome Stranger Things clock chime. Well done.
Glad you spotted that!!
Yaaayyy, Rasselbock Running. Out at Sherwood Pines with them this weekend on a birthday run 😊
Lovely! Happy Birthday for this weekend! 😁
did my first ever running race last july in this format for my 50th birthday present to my self , managed 14 laps 94 Km , was brilliant fun /pain/suffering
I tried a *Last Person Standing* event. Exactly as this: course length etc.
I did 11 laps (walking: lap took about 57mins) then my back started to spasm... that was that!
To be honest, I dont know how many more I could have done.
The whole on feet/rest/eat... whatever... is the thing that is difficult.
Advice? Walking is the key... but not by necessity... have the ability to run if and when required.
Well done to all of you for giving it a go: it is an interesting test, different mental/physical skill set? Perhaps more accurately a different use of a runners mental and physical skill set.
Great to see backyard content! 36 laps is my best, though I'm going to try to push to 48 this year 🤞.
Fingers crossed!
I won Portland Pig again this weekend but only 33 loops 🙄, I will try to get further at Suffolk and The Highlander though Suffolk will be the weekend after the Grand Union Canal Race, I'll take that one as slow as humanly possible so that my legs still work ok the following weekend 😂
Great content
Biggest thing you missed here was: HOW MANY LAPS DID THE GUY WINNING IT DO? So unsatisfying to not know this.
Last man standing was 36 laps, the last DNF was a woman who now has the UK BYU record of 35 laps 🙌🏻 it was epic!
@@julietmorrice3205I don't think the record counts as its a DNF
Hey you guys are amazing, especially Anna! 🙏
Really glad you enjoyed it!
I SO need to do one of these events!
James is a seasoned ultra runner, so is Anna. But I feel he's more prepared for such an event. But then again Mo. is full of suprise... We'll see
