Nice set up , simple and well organized ,if the weight seems to be unbalanced for you move battery to the front , secure it well and you may have to add wire , great job
I’ve actually done very similar by using aluminium square tube drilled and bolted straight thru right behind the seat. If rod holders are un-screwed it’s fairly easy to get a large bolt back up into body to connect tube. Brilliant video ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I went out and made one for mine right away! It's sweet. Made mine out of 1x pine and used wooden dowels. I painted it with marine epoxy so it will last. I like it for attaching gear to regardless and the stability with my motor is really good.
@@franksunderland7039 Honestly I’ve never experienced any reason to add banana like that. I’ve spent several full days on it with no noticeable balance issues. But if I did I’d probably just move the battery closer to the opposite side first
I put your design together yesterday… Only took about an hour after I bought the bits…. Very easy and quite secure. Still want to add the rod holders. Haven’t got it out on the water yet…. Maybe next week.
My kayak is rated 350 lbs and i weight about 150… but because i don't want to get near limite i choose every items based on their weight. My fishing rod/reels are ultra light… my troller battery is a lithium lifepo4 , the fishfinder also uses its own little lithium battery. The paddle is carbon. Also i believe the weight has an influence on the speed. The lighter the faster you will move. But what kills me the most and something i did not consider before buying is how long it takes to launch a motorized kayak and how long it takes to get it out of the water and bring it home. My kayak weight about 60 lbs bare naked.. but once you add everything on it., it becomes too heavy to lift, so you need a cart, but you have to strap the cart.. its alot of work, effort and time consuming I have a small pickup truck and i have to dress and empty the kayak everytime.. i don't want to cause any crash on the freeway so i store everything (trolling motor, battery, fishfinder, fishing rods,) inside the vehicle… so only the kayak remains in the pickupbed. When i get home i wash the kayak and hang it on the garage wall. Needless to say i. Very tired at the point.. especially after lifting by hand the kayak. Empty the kayak lift it, lift it dress it, and so on.. this take forever. If you do that on a public boat ramp, people will hate you. I was lucky to find a very quiet ramp (almost abandoned city ramp) that nobody use except some kayakers and jetski owners who know that spot. and to park my vehicle, the person living there (some water front house) allows me to park a little on her grass so i don't block the ramp nor the street. So i have my own private parking next to thé abandoned ramp.. so i can take my time… no rush… but still it is alot of work to dress and undress the kayak and to liftit by hand countless time. It hurts my back. So imthnking about selling my kayak and get a tiny boat..
I’ve added the stabilizers in the past but now that I primarily fish slow moving waters it’s one less apparatus to carry with me. Thanks for the battery tip!
Ran wires inside the the kayak leading from the battery up front back to the garmin then back to the trolling motor quick disconnect plug behind the seat
I do not think that the tie down strap is necessary as the rod holders are angled inwards. This can be verified by having a friend on one side of the kayak and you on the other and lifting up on the 2x4.
Have you thought about adding outriggers to the end of the plank on each side? That was an idea I had thought of watching this to help with the rear stability and flotation. I was thinking of adding something removable with pvc and boat fenders off of the end of the plank on each side to this build that you have. Could be a great system to help with the extra weight in the back and the flotation of the kayak in general, what do you think?
I’ve thought about it, and used to have them on a canoe that worked great. The main reason I haven’t done them here is because even in large rivers and around other boats, stability has never been an issue. I DO pull the scupper plugs in the very back so water can crash over and drain out by the battery, but that’s all I’ve ever felt the need to do. If you plan on standing, you will definitely need them!
@@myrandomlife4382 Thats a good idea, I probably will be building this for my kayak since I'm bored and it's the winter now. I usually take my teton into open bays and fast moving creeks, stability isn't a huge issue but sometimes with the wakes from other boats or fast water its sketchy but only because if I fall off I'm kinda screwed lol. Definitely going to be building something similar to this in the future, if I do end up placing outriggers on this I'll comment back here and let you know! How has it all been holding up? Is it still worth using or is it more of an inconvenience at this point? Thanks!
@@davidgerard761 All still holding up although I put it away for the season a couple months ago. I use the motor more often than I don’t. It’s a small pain to get it set up, especially if you can’t bring your vehicle close to the water. But that just motivates you to stay out longer so you feel it was worth it haha!
You're absolutely right. And while I've never capsized, that's definitely a risk. I just try to do my best to never take it out into water that could capsize me without me doing something to cause it.
I have this same kayak and want to put a trolling motor on it. Did you have to register/ title the kayak at all? What steps did you take to being able to use the trolling motor.
I did have to register it. In my state, the minute you add a motor of any kind to a vessel it needs to be registered. It was relatively easy. Every newer kayak and canoe has a hull ID so between that number, your receipt, and the Manufacturers Statement of Origin (basically a title that comes with the kayak when you buy it) it ended up being just a couple of forms at the DMV. $47 later I had a title and registration numbers. If you don't have the statement of origin, you could probably ask the manufacturer to send you one, or at least in Connecticut you can sign a form saying that it was sold to you or one doesn't exist.

Sorry about that. Because I used PVC that was laying around and did not have the size on it, I took an OD measurement and thought it was about 1 1/2, but it's closer to 1 1/4, which means it was likely 1" pipe. I'll have to add a correction.
I was thinking the same thing. I saw a video where someone cut 1 1/4 lengthwise and stuffed it in and it didn’t fit. I took 1” and wrapped it with duct tape to get a snug fit. Then I put 1 1/4 over it, glued and screwed it together. I’m glad I saw this video because I had a real hard time getting both in the rod holders. I have a Tamarack Pro. Weighted at 300. Have a 30 thrust MinnKota. Applied truck bedliner to the wood but haven’t finished it as of yet.

Hi Jake. So all I did was take a Scotty Mount and actually screw it into the kayak itself (there's a spot that looks like it's meant for it) and then seal around it with caulk. The transducer goes on an arm that mounts on the rail system that's already there. With the motor in the water and under power, it definitely requires a much wider radius to turn towards the side that the motor is mounted on. I’ve found going in reverse for a tight turn in that direction is better. As far as travel with the paddle, I normally tilt it up and out of the water so its effects are reduced to almost nothing. The extra weight on the side does cause that side to dip slightly so I’m sure that doesn’t help the track. I’m usually all motor or all paddle so I personally don’t notice it.
@@myrandomlife4382 thanks for the info. To meet, motoring from point a to point be is worth the sacrifice. Once I get near my fishing location, I can tilt the motor out and paddle in position or around. On of the rivers i fish has a lot of weeds floating around, so being abode to tilt and clean the prop is important, if needed.

Cut out a box up front to fit the battery. Run the cables inside the kayak back to a quick disconnect for the trolling motor etc...

I just set up my kayak the same way I have the 55 lb thrust motor it feels heavy but I can use it for a smaller boat I want so we'll see how it goes

Clean looking setup but If you capsize, that battery is going to the bottom and may be taking the top of the motor with it.
