Storage Deck Hatch Install on Lifetime Teton Angler Kayak
Installing a deck hatch for much needed storage on my Lifetime Teton Angler kayak. The latch can be found here for $16:
www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015B1E4BS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
While it's listed as a 6" hole diameter, it's definitely larger and you will need a 6.5" hole saw or create a 6.5" hole to saw out. Thanks for watching!

Lifetime Teton Angler Follow-Up: Modifications, Performance, and Fishing
Просмотров 8 тыс.4 года назад
Follow up to my last video that outlined a trolling motor mount that I fabricated out of 1" PVC for my Lifetime Teton Angler that I purchased from Dick's Sporting Goods. This video focuses on some of the other small modifications I have made and also shows some of the performance of the kayak while fishing.
Lifetime Teton Angler Kayak Motor Mount (1" PVC) Overview and Test
Просмотров 64 тыс.4 года назад
THE VIDEO REFERENCES 1 1/4" PVC WHICH IS INCORRECT - IT IS 1" PVC This video is an overview and demonstration of my home-made motor mount for my Lifetime Teton Angler kayak purchased from Dick's Sporting Goods. The motor is a Minn Kota 34# thrust transom mount motor which has been shortened following directions from several sources including here: tinboats.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=15467
What is the battery strapped to to make it stay put?
I di the exact same set up on my Teton. Its perfect and keeping it simple. Later on I will invest in a lithium battery to cut the weight down by 20 lbs on the battery.
How long did u make the 2x4 I have the same kayak
I just measured it and it’s a completely arbitrary 41 inches!
Thanks
How is the stability when the motor is on? Does it lean?
Nice set up , simple and well organized ,if the weight seems to be unbalanced for you move battery to the front , secure it well and you may have to add wire , great job
How long is the 2x4?
Ran wires inside the the kayak leading from the battery up front back to the garmin then back to the trolling motor quick disconnect plug behind the seat
Roughly 80 lbs on the back of the kayak. Battery and Trolling Motor plus the weight of the user.
Even out the weight...somewhat. Battery up front.
Cut out a box up front to fit the battery. Run the cables inside the kayak back to a quick disconnect for the trolling motor etc...
help balance you out...
Move the battery up to the bow
I do not think that the tie down strap is necessary as the rod holders are angled inwards. This can be verified by having a friend on one side of the kayak and you on the other and lifting up on the 2x4.
Wow awesome Carp ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Love the set up and wood transom. My concern is the balance but u don’t seem to have any issues by moving battery ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I’ve actually done very similar by using aluminium square tube drilled and bolted straight thru right behind the seat. If rod holders are un-screwed it’s fairly easy to get a large bolt back up into body to connect tube. Brilliant video ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
hey! any chance i can get a bit more detail on how you secure the PVC to the wood? it looks like the fixed side has some sort of bracket?
also, is the wood totally level? it looks like it sits angled back just a tad. does that cause any issues?
Exactly what I have been planning. You saved me from making some mistakes, thanks.
Lithiums are expensive, but once you get one, you won’t regret it one bit.
how to recharge my mightymax 12v 60Amp Hr battery ?
I'd so love to do this mod to my Teton. Sadly, the troller and battery would put me just about or over its weight capacity
My kayak is rated 350 lbs and i weight about 150… but because i don't want to get near limite i choose every items based on their weight. My fishing rod/reels are ultra light… my troller battery is a lithium lifepo4 , the fishfinder also uses its own little lithium battery. The paddle is carbon. Also i believe the weight has an influence on the speed. The lighter the faster you will move. But what kills me the most and something i did not consider before buying is how long it takes to launch a motorized kayak and how long it takes to get it out of the water and bring it home. My kayak weight about 60 lbs bare naked.. but once you add everything on it., it becomes too heavy to lift, so you need a cart, but you have to strap the cart.. its alot of work, effort and time consuming I have a small pickup truck and i have to dress and empty the kayak everytime.. i don't want to cause any crash on the freeway so i store everything (trolling motor, battery, fishfinder, fishing rods,) inside the vehicle… so only the kayak remains in the pickupbed. When i get home i wash the kayak and hang it on the garage wall. Needless to say i. Very tired at the point.. especially after lifting by hand the kayak. Empty the kayak lift it, lift it dress it, and so on.. this take forever. If you do that on a public boat ramp, people will hate you. I was lucky to find a very quiet ramp (almost abandoned city ramp) that nobody use except some kayakers and jetski owners who know that spot. and to park my vehicle, the person living there (some water front house) allows me to park a little on her grass so i don't block the ramp nor the street. So i have my own private parking next to thé abandoned ramp.. so i can take my time… no rush… but still it is alot of work to dress and undress the kayak and to liftit by hand countless time. It hurts my back. So imthnking about selling my kayak and get a tiny boat..
how does the kayak track and steer with the side mount motor?
With the motor in the water and under power, it definitely requires a much wider radius to turn towards the side that the motor is mounted on. I’ve found going in reverse for a tight turn in that direction is better. As far as travel with the paddle, I normally tilt it up and out of the water so its effects are reduced to almost nothing. The extra weight on the side does cause that side to dip slightly so I’m sure that doesn’t help the track. I’m usually all motor or all paddle so I personally don’t notice it.
@@myrandomlife4382 thanks for the info. To meet, motoring from point a to point be is worth the sacrifice. Once I get near my fishing location, I can tilt the motor out and paddle in position or around. On of the rivers i fish has a lot of weeds floating around, so being abode to tilt and clean the prop is important, if needed.
I just set up my kayak the same way I have the 55 lb thrust motor it feels heavy but I can use it for a smaller boat I want so we'll see how it goes
Do you have a list of parts and sizes?
I put your design together yesterday… Only took about an hour after I bought the bits…. Very easy and quite secure. Still want to add the rod holders. Haven’t got it out on the water yet…. Maybe next week.
Thanks for showing this, I just bought the same kayak and will consider your modification. 2 questions: (1) How is steering? I've seen from other people that side mounting is less than ideal for steering the motor, causing many to try rear-mount instead, which is more complicated. (2) When folded up, does the position of the motor interfere with paddling? Specifically, others have complained about hitting the steering arm or the mount with the paddle. I plan to use the motor to travel to a general area, then paddle to maneuver around. Thanks in advance!
Love the mod, going to build something similar but with a lithium battery to save on weight.
That chair is absolutely outstanding
How satisfied are you running that motor? I have an 18lb watersnake on mine, (much smaller) fishing flats and mangroves in SWFL is murder on the flimsy props. Was considering getting a bigger better saltwater motor.
For me it works perfectly. There are some good websites that talk about how the LB thrust of the trolling motor makes no difference in the actual speed based off weight and size of the vessel so the 36lb is perfect. There’s a very good chance that the 18lb pushes it as fast as the 36. I think I’ve topped out at like 4 mph
@@myrandomlife4382 thanks!
What battery are you running sir ,
I’m using a Duracell Marine AGM battery. I think it’s size 27.
Great Stuff. thank you for sharing. I just build one last night for my Perception Kayak to bad I can share pictures in the comments.
Dude amazing thank you!
Is it less stable with the plugs in ? Those holes are for leveling and balancing the kayak correct ? If u pulled them how wet does the inside get by ur feet ? I’m looking to purchase one of these soon
There is no difference in stability with the plugs in or out. They’re there for if you’re in an area with waves that come up and over the sides of the kayak, the water will just flow through the holes. However, in normal calm waters like I kayak in, they will let a layer (maybe half an inch?) of water into the kayak. So I prefer to keep them in to keep my butt and legs dry.
@@myrandomlife4382 thanks for ur response did urs come with plugs ?
Get lithium ion batteries it’s a game changer its lighter fraction of the wroghr of that battery and stronger last way way longer
Can buy a marine battery in lithium I believe it would shave extreme weight off
Great! I subscribed to your channel! I'm in shipbuilding! It’s on my channel....!
Awesome
Thank you for this!
are you able to post a video of how you installed your fish finder?
I actually might be able to when I’m back from vacation. Thanks for the recommendation!
@@myrandomlife4382 okay thanks so much just got that kayak and wanna put a garmin striker 4 where you have yours!
Nice! You've gained my respect! Sweet!
decent outriggers in the rear would solve the issue and make it much better also
Very nice video 👌
nice video, although I have to say that IMO it would be better just to spend extra money to buy a decent kayak instead of sinking time and money on a cheapo wallmart boat.
Looks horrible
Shutup, it works
I've heard not to use silicone sealant when mounting accessories. Wellnuts and rivets can be used but, I'm not sure on what sealant is 'safe' to use - if needed.
That could be true. I’ve always riveted or screwed things down and sealed with silicone with no issue. But who knows!
@@myrandomlife4382 I heard silicone has a bad reaction with kayak material. Something to look into..research more.
I've watched a dozen or so of these videos and your's is by far the easiest and concise way to get simple results, well done!
Thank you for your ingenuity! I applied it to my yak and it works great!!! See my latest upload!
great MOD, I cant wait to try it on my channel. I will give ya props and try to send some subscribers your way. Good luck fishing this year
Damn line snap!
