Here’s a HOT TIP whenever you cut or drill holes in your boat get a ziplock bag and save any plastic curls or shaving! You can use them to melt and patch any holes you get with the same material your boats already made of👍
That's a sweet hole saw bit, didn't realize they get that big. I did similar mods and really enjoy them, especially the seat mod. It's amazing how much more comfort the seat mod makes a day of fishing.
Excellent how-to video. Thanks for sharing the links to the hatch, hole saw, and rod holder. I did the same thing to mine, based on your video. Only thing I did differently, was I used stainless bolts, washers and locking nuts to attach the hatches to the kayak, as well as run a bead of marine silicone between the kayak and gaskets. Again, great video!
Sorry, total beginner question but im looking to do the same thing essentially as you. To use the bolts you had to first drill a pilot hole right? What size bolt did you get and what size pilot hole did you drill in?
I put rubber gasket washers down between the boat & accessory when installing stuff to help seal it. Also prevents screws from tearing up the plastic or coming out from vibrations.
Finally! A video on how to fix the bungee cords! My Teton's cord was popped out of the hole when I bought it, and it looks trashy just uselessly hanging off the side of my kayak, but I didn't know how to fix it without drilling into the kayak. Never occurred to me to just remove the rod holders to make an access point. I feel like such an idiot!
Great mods. Now you have a kayak equal to the $600 and $700 10’ kayaks that are on the market. I think your video will be referenced often by folks that want a good 10’ kayak without spending the big bucks. Thanks
I have a pelican catch 130 and just bought this one as a secondary...biggest issue is the drift, definitely needs a skeg or rudder to stop the drifting.
I saved those plastic cutouts from the scupper holes as filler plastic for any possible future repairs to the kayak, small amounts but blend in color wise (obviously.)
The bad thing about lifetime kayaks is the bungee cord attachments will rip out if banged around or strapping bags to it. This has happened to my lifetime tamarack pro 103. Forcing me to install front and rear hatches to get access to put bolt washers and nuts to the bungee cord hooks. Also if you want other upgrades the bolt&nut washer option is garanted to not rip out like plastic rivets would if to much force is applyed to them ect.
Talon? Is that you? Has anyone including the owner thought of a DIY track mounted rail, one that goes across the kayak. I have been on the water 3 out of 4 days since purchasing the teton angler. This video definitely helped me decide! I've been in class .5 to 1 rapids so far, and it was not intentional. Could not believe how I could see ahead of the other kayakers, but I would not attempt swift water unless you, like me, have had training and experience on that type of water.
Tape a string to the end of the bungee or a straightened coat hanger and try to feed it to the rod holder area. Then pull it up and tie a knot. Or buy some new toggles and crimp one on and push into the hole. If you install a rear hatch then you can reach everything.
Thank you. I am waiting for my Kayak to arrive (first time owner) and Im loving the modifications you did. This video was so informative! Can you put a camera mount on there instead of a rod holder?
It tracks ok for a 10' kayak and the stability is decent. If you get your head past the side of the kayak then you will tip over. Same with most kayaks tho. I have a few other videos of the kayak in action.
G-Wolf Outdoors I contacted there customer care email, took them almost a whole month to respond but they finally did and said they would send out a one time replacement. I’d try calling them until they pick up instead.
How important do you think those dry hatches are? I was debating putting them in but I really am against doing any drilling in a kayak. I was thinking of just getting some waterproof containers and bungee cording them to the seat or something so that I can avoid any drilling. Nice video by the way!
Dry bags are a better solution for items that can be damaged by water. Mainly I like the access into the hull it provides. Also good for storing a first aid kit or things that are rarely used.
I carry the bare minimum on these kayaks. At my weight there is about 1/2" of water by the foot rests on the Teton. The water is about a 1/4" below the deck on the Tamarack Pro.
That’s the first thing I thought of when I saw that. I’ll pass on the riser but I’m definitely doing the dry storage mods. Didn’t know that adapter for the drill even existed. That’s awesome.
I just bought the same kayak yesterday. I’m still trying to figure everything out about it. Would those hatches be used for storing catches or can they be used for anything?
I would use a soft sided cooler for catches. The bags that come with the hatches are not insulated and fish slime could get into the kayak and be hard to clean. They do work good for holding smaller items like first aid kits or tackle.
great video man. I really want to get one of these. Trying to see how easy it would be to replace the front and rear shock cords (the ones that aren't right next to the parts you unscrewed). Would you just tie a knot and shove it in with a ram rod? Or is there another opening not pictured in the video?
After installing the hatches then all the bungee ends are accessible. Without the hatches then you would need to get creative with wire leader or something.
lots of videos of people doing things to their Kayaks, poking holes in them, cutting chunks out, screwing gadgets on them, raising the CG, making them heavy and cumbersome, but not many videos of them actually on the water being used. I think some people tinker with them more than they paddle them.

That's a really good tip

The hole saw makes the install very easy.

I think the knots will hold better than those clips.
I'm fixing to buy this yak, and need all the advice I can get. Great video
Go with tamarack pro 103 improved version cost a little more but worth it research it.
@@hummertim1 I ended up getting the old town sanorac canoe.
I just purchased one through Dicks sporting goods. I'm picking it up tomorrow.

Nice! I just got one.. The seat riser tip is great, as well as the storage port holes.. 👍👌
I love your ideas of seat riser.
Great video very helpful to a new kayaker
Nice upgrades. Plan on doing the storage compartments on my lifetime triton.
Thanks so much for the video. Installation went very well.
Great Mods!!! This is a really lightweight kayak.
I want 2 put a hatch in my Perception. Thx 4 showing me how easy it is!!!
Thanks man appreciate the detail😎😎😎
I have a pelican catch 130 and just bought this one as a secondary...biggest issue is the drift, definitely needs a skeg or rudder to stop the drifting.
10' kayaks aren't the best for tracking. That would definitely help on windy days too.
Sweet mods!....I'm looking to upgrade mine & this helps, thx!

Can you post links to the holder and storage bins you used

Do you like the footstops?
I would always use some kind of silicone
Put a plastic washer on before tying the knot.
My bungee strap snapped off on the end furthest from the rod holders. Any advice on how to knot the cord that is furthest from the hole?
Tape a string to the end of the bungee or a straightened coat hanger and try to feed it to the rod holder area. Then pull it up and tie a knot. Or buy some new toggles and crimp one on and push into the hole. If you install a rear hatch then you can reach everything.
What’s with the bungee cords coming out of the kayak??. 🕳 hole
Honestly, I think they cheaped out by using this design. Any amount of force will pull the cord out.
Thank you. I am waiting for my Kayak to arrive (first time owner) and Im loving the modifications you did. This video was so informative! Can you put a camera mount on there instead of a rod holder?
I made a camera boom that has a scotty mount that fits there. I'll post another video about that and the crate cart I made for this soon.
Anyone know if this can be done to the Tamarack Pro??
Thanks for this
How stable is it for us big guys? Especially leaning over the side to grab fish? And tracking?
It tracks ok for a 10' kayak and the stability is decent. If you get your head past the side of the kayak then you will tip over. Same with most kayaks tho. I have a few other videos of the kayak in action.
Anyone happen to know where to buy the same seat or one similar that would fit? I need a replacement
I'm going to be contacting their warranty department because the seat is breaking down at the seams on the lower seat area.

Not important as they are unreachable when in the water
What are those grey things securing the seat ? I have the same yak and have issues with seat coming unclamped, especially with hook sets.
Just the plastic clips that came mounted when I bought it. Maybe lifetime has replacements.
Thanks for mentioning your weight. I'm about the same and was wondering about the 275 pound max. Do you carry much gear?
I carry the bare minimum on these kayaks. At my weight there is about 1/2" of water by the foot rests on the Teton. The water is about a 1/4" below the deck on the Tamarack Pro.
Just got my Teton. The pricing on these seems to have gone up over the past year or so. Now at Dicks it's $479
When I added the 2x4 riser , it made the kayak more unstable to me. Top heavy. How did you feel?
It did make it more top heavy. I ended up ripping the 2x4 in half to make it only 1 3/4" tall. Now it's not too bad.
That’s the first thing I thought of when I saw that.
I’ll pass on the riser but I’m definitely doing the dry storage mods. Didn’t know that adapter for the drill even existed. That’s awesome.

Nice! What size (and type) screws did you use for the Scotty (rod holder)..?
They are a stainless coarse thread philips head. They came with the rod holder/base combo.
G-Wolf Outdoors I appreciate the 411, keep up the good work Big-G.
Did it come with that stuff?
No, it was purchased separately
Can u put a fish finder on this yak? Didnt watch the whole video so.forgive my ignorance if it's in there.
I use this kayak for small ponds and haven't used a fish finder with it. A scotty mount transducer arm would work with the side rails.
Yes you can you have to be creative minded & research for the best placement ect.
What size and brand are those hatches please?
They are 6" hatches. The link is in the description.
Nice mods
What kind of screws did you use?
The screw used where supplied with the accessories.
250 lbs on a 275 lb max boat lol
After a burger and fries, I am maxed out!
Engineers always add in a fudge-factor for safety reasons. I expect it will hold closer to 300 without a problem.
@@jonthebuddha3962 fudge-factor meaning if someone needs to take a 10lb fudge while on the water it can hold it?

There's a special creek for those people and they don't have paddles up that creek.
