Appreciate the shout out again man! I like what you did adding the pull tab to the paddle holder and eyelets to clip the seat on. Still for the life of me cant figure out why that wasn't already installed like they did on the Yukon. Some questionable issues with the final touches on this thing that are pretty easy and cheap to correct. It's close to be a perfect budget kayak. It survived falling off my roof rack going 75 on the interstate!
T.J. Outdoors seriously tough yak, yea definitely wish they had just gone with the same design as the Yukon just shorter.. I really appreciate your videos man, they are what inspired me to get out there and start doing it also! “Money can’t buy happiness, but it can buy a kayak and that’s pretty much the same thing!”
@@hunterwhitekayak glad i could be a little help in getting you out there! Cant wait to see some more of your trips. I just got back from 10 days in Florida and have a lot of footage to go through.
I am planning on getting two of these for my kids. After seeing T.J's review I ruled it out for myself just because of how tippy it is. Probably going to go for the Yellowfin Vibe 130T so I can ride with the wife or one of the kids but still fish solo. Very good review though, appreciate the time put into the details of the boat.
Tom Muse thank you very much and excellent choice! Your kids will love it, I’m going to hang on to it mainly for convenience because it’s so light and that seat. Can’t say enough about the seat compared to other kayaks in the same price range. That being said, the Vibe Yellowfin is a an awesome model, either tandem or solo. They are a Georgia based company and I’m from Ga (a little biased). For the extra buck the Vibe is a great yak, beginner, intermediate or experienced. Hope y’all have a great time on the water and let me know how you like your Vibe👍🏼
@@hunterwhitekayak from what I could tell the teton is weight sensitive and from TJ's video water was being pushed up through the skupper holes when he stood. Only time I have seen or heard of that is when the boat is overloaded.
Tom Muse true I have stood in it and paddled a bit but not for too long and in flat water. I may try it out for a video👍🏼👍🏼 I’m about 160lbs and it also comes up through the scupper when I stand up in it.
@@hunterwhitekayak so would you say they got the capacity wrong? One of the kayak outfitters said that is the best way to tell on a sit on top. The skuppers are designed to drain water out if a wave comes in. Almost like the deck is to close to the waterline.
No I think they got it on point. I’m sorry I should have explained that better, the only time the water comes up through the scuppers for me is when I stand up in it because you are having to stand towards the front. (Which they don’t recommend) And it’s only the front scuppers that the water comes through. It being the summer I don’t usually plug any scuppers except for the ones under my behind. Usually when I’m sitting in it there’s no water that comes up through. Even with my gear loaded in it, it’s a pretty dry ride for me👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks for the review. Looked at a lot of entry level kayaks on line and think this one would be the best for my needs. What time of year did you find it on sale? Getting it on sale would make it even better.
Of course and you will love it! Best bang for your buck under $500 in my opinion! I purchased mine in April of 2018 and it was on sale then for $289! I know during this past Black Friday they had a huge deal on them also.
Just bought two and can’t wait to take them out! I can’t figure out what the metal thing is for that’s near the water bottle holder. Does it have a use?
Jenna Wolfe that’s awesome! You will absolutely love them! I believe it’s a drain plug that you can attach a carabiner or something like that to and attach a paddle leash or whatever you want!
Surprised you stated this kayak was stable. I just returned mine to dicks and found it extremely tippy. Doesn’t feel like a fishing kayak should. I purchased a moken 10v2 to replace it and the difference is night and day.
Mine i got yesterday looks identical to that except there is one. Little storage hatch thing between your knees and they have the braces with adjustable foot pegs its called a tamarack pro at walmart but if u look up a. Tamarack pro this looks nothing like it mine is thos kayak with extras basically
Ron Daszkiewicz it’s flat enough that you could but I didn’t want to take the chance of it leaking so I put it in back. TJ Outdoors actually put both hatches in check out his vids also!
Mvogel5110 yea mostly the only water that ever gets in it is just from me paddling it’s really not that much. Like you said, I usually just pull em up real quick and pop em back in if I need to drain that little bit out mid trip under my seat. Although, before I got a dry bag, I had a book bag in the back storage well that ended up sitting in water because the scuppers were plugged so I usually leave em out back there.
@@hunterwhitekayak went fishing for first time on it this weekend. Didn't use any plugs. Some water gets in but nothing I care about. I'm wet from paddling anyway.
Most any slide track mounting accessories will work with this. Here’s a link to Yak Attacks slide mount accessories, they have a lot of great gear! www.yakattack.us/products/track-mount-accessories/
Chris it’s primary and secondary stability are both on point. I’ve been in some pretty choppy stuff before in tidal rivers and it handled just fine. The way the hull is shaped and its width increase stability quite a bit. In flat water I’ve actually stood up in it before but since it doesn’t really have a flat standing surface it’s hard to balance once you’re up.
Just bought one today for $299 from dick's. Was going with the tamarack but none were in stock so I settled on this one. Glad I did, can't wait to take it out
Jonathan, awesome! You’ll love it man. To be honest you’ll be glad you spent the extra few bucks for that seat alone! Hatches can be added with some know how. Just took mine down a section of the Chattahoochee River on a day trip and kept up with a 12 footer no problem. I’ve taken quite a few more trips since this review and have learned how to paddle much more efficiently with my hips and am gaining upper body strength. The 12 footer (F&S Eagle Talon) is a lot heavier and more cumbersome as opposed to the Teton which is quite light yet extremely rugged. Both track about the same (average) and stability is on the Tetons side even though you sit higher off the water. I will do a video comparison of the two in the upcoming weeks, be sure to check that out. I think we’ll both be surprised at the Tetons performance. Send me some pictures of your maiden voyage when you go and thanks for watching!
@@hunterwhitekayak Took it out in a pond a few days after I got it - took it down an 11 mile trip down the Shenandoah river yesterday and it did phenomenal. Surpassed all of my expectations. Can't wait to keep using this thing. For a first timer like me, I'm very pleased. Kept up with a buddy's eagle talon 12ft as well.
Jonathan Wines that’s awesome man! Glad you’re lovin it as much I have enjoyed it so far. Hope to see you out on the water someday!
I'm about to do the same thing! Wanted the tamarack but it's out of stock and the Teton is on sale for 349.99. More than I wanted to spend but the seat upgrade looks nice and I wasn't planning on using the storage compartments in the tamarack anyway. A crate in the back gives me more versatility and easier to get into.
@@Damieboo you won't be sorry. As a first kayak I love the Teton. I added a dry storage hatch to the front of mine - was super easy, I dont have issues with water getting in there, overall its just a great little kayak. I bought my wife a pelican mustang not too long afterwards and it may serve her well, but the seat on the Teton is just soooooo comfortable. I've spent over 8 hours in it before without a break

If u remove the seat theres a piece there where you the bungees from the seat connect on
Mvogel5110 yea I didn’t feel like messing with that every time lol
