    Have the same kayak. I took the backrest off and when you remove the nylon strap it allows you to rotate it and you can zip tie the stadium chair down. No drilling and took 30 seconds. Make the chair very stable and won't come off if you over turn it. Nice video. Thanks.

      Just came across this video searching for a good crate set-up for my Tamarack and saw the stadium seat was not secured. I've been trying to find some sort of stadium seat mounting that did not require me to drill into my yak. Your idea is perfect. As soon as I am done typing this I'm heading over to Walmart for a stadium seat & some zip-ties (as well as some new lures for Redfish & Snook)! I know this comment/reply to the video is over 2 years old, but if you happen to see it.. THANK YOU!!!..... I hope your bucket is filled with keepers this weekend!

      Same one ive got. I added a Watersnake trolling motor. Good to go now.

  • @rkygriz
    @rkygriz 5 лет назад +2

    You should add an anchor trolly,and a zigzag cleat. I did it to mine,and it works great. I use a 5 pound grapnel anchor. I have 50 feet of 1/4 inch rope for anchoring in deep water. I bought a rope rachet/ hanger with a carabiner that I attach to the forward eyelet to control the amount of rope that I let out.The anchor trolly has made recovering the anchor a breeze, and it allows me to position the anchor on either end of the boat. The grapnel anchor really does a great job of holding my Tamarack in place on both still and moving water. I live in Modesto,so I hit the nearby Tuolumne River on a regular basis for largemouth bass . The Tamarack handles class one and class two rapids easily. I would also recommend adding a Garmin Striker 4 fisfinder. You can install the transducer inside the hull using some Duct Seal compound to avoid having to make a mount for your boat. It's a must have when fishing in water where you can't see the bottom!And one last suggestion : If you haven't already done it,you should consider upgrading to an 8 foot (96 inches) paddle. It gives you more power, and makes paddling easier. I bought a Sea Sense Extreme for $31.00 on Walmart. Com. Much better than the 7 foot paddle supplied by Lifetime.

    • @NORCALRODREEL
      @NORCALRODREEL  5 лет назад +1

      Thanks for the recs! I was wondering if the duct seal worked for a fish finder, glad to hear it has on your boat 👍🏼

    • @rkygriz
      @rkygriz 5 лет назад

      @@NORCALRODREEL If you do it, use only enough Duct Seal to cover the bottom and the sides of the transducer. Make sure that there are no air pockets. I placed mine in the skeg. It's the flattest part if the boat, and it also sits deeper in the water. You will loose the water temp,but that's not as important as being able to watch the bottom depth. As far as seeing fish, it doesn't cause a loss of signal, so, it there are fish under your hull, it will detet them. One of the nice things about the Garmin Striker 4 is that it has a built in GPS and it will even tell you how fast you're gong, which is helpful for trolling.

  • @glennrobbins2372
    @glennrobbins2372 4 года назад

    Received my kayak about a month ago and found a cheap round food container that is velcroed underneath the front hatch. My biggest investment was my PFD, I chose a fishing style with plenty of pockets for storage for my knife, pliers, phone in a waterproof case, scale, etc. Instead of mounting the tray on the hatch cover I am thinking of mounting some small tackle boxes velcroed one on top of the other, then I can put go to lures, baits and terminal tackle as needed depending on the fishing conditions. I plan on using a 13x19x11 crate in back for storage and installing an anchor trolley, plus upgrading the seat.

    New friends here from Trail Trash Outdoors! Love the pouch idea! Seems everyone is on the same page with the stadium seat (17-18.5) mod and velcro tray.🤠🤙 I go camping and fishing so I do not think the crate mod is for me since my bag takes up most of that space and the from is full of waterproof cases for my camera gear. I am leaning towards getting a set of the kayak wheels tho since it doesn't seem to take up much room or weight and would make travel so much easier!

      What I do is not pull the paddles that far out of the water. You aren't racing this thing anyways so you can just paddle gently and steadily while keeping the paddles low and out to the sides. That was the first thing I figured out when I got my kayak because I kept getting wet. 😄

    Hey Nick. I have the exact same kayak and wheels. How do you use those wheels properly or if you had issues using them? Loaded it keeps slipping on me so I always have to use straps or ropes. But even so, it still sometimes slips or move towards the back so I end up having to do a lot of lifting in order to roll the kayak. Any tips or tricks would be appreciated! Thanks for posting.

    • @NORCALRODREEL
      @NORCALRODREEL  5 лет назад +1

      Hey there! When I first got the cart I had the same issue, I was rigging the straps wrong. I was just passing the strap directly under the kayak and car, and clipping it/sinching it down. You need to loop the strap once under the frame of the card on each side and sinch it down that way, similar to how you would sinch down the kayak if you car top it. Does that make sense? If not happy to do a video. Since I made that adjustment, I’ve had no problem with the kayak falling off or the cart moving

    • @NORCALRODREEL
      @NORCALRODREEL  5 лет назад +1

      The seat is a must! No need to mount it or strap it in for it to be secure. Your weight will keep it from going anywhere while you paddle and it fits the seat well great. Some people anchor the seat down, more than likely to the anchor point behind the seat. I personally don’t but I understand why. Some folks are concerned about losing the seat if they tip the boat, not a bad idea if you are still getting your bearings!

      I bought a stadium seat for my Tamarack,and it changed the center of gravity in the boat. It made it feel unstable, and it didn't really help to keep my back, or backside, from getting sore. So, I just use the factory seat. I like to turn sideways, and dangle my feet over the side. Great on a hot summer day! The stadium seat interferes with that. So,I personally don't recommend using a stadium seat in a Tamarack Angler kayak.

Thanks for any advice!

    • @NORCALRODREEL

      Seems like something wrong with the ends of the paddle holding water maybe. Probably the reason too why you’re getting so wet. Without seeing it not sure how to diagnose it but if you look around there and notice anything off or loose, that silicone thought might not be a bad idea

      I feel like the standard paddle with this kayak is too short - so the water keeps dripping off of it into the boat/onto your legs every time you raise the end. I see that there are 'drip stops' that you can add to the paddles, I may try that on mine.

Did you also have the problem of water getting inside the paddle? Its weird cause it's kinda trapped in there as disconnecting it doesn't free the water. I might try putting silicone around the seams and see if that works

    • @NORCALRODREEL
      @NORCALRODREEL  4 года назад

      I keep mine unattached for a few reasons 1) The anchor in the back I use for the crate and it's be hard to fit a third bungee thru the hook to attach the seat 2) your weight keeps the seat fixed in the kayak. Mine does not move at all once I'm in. Now those two things being said, if you were to flip your kayak, you might lose your seat. That's a gamble I take but to each his own. It definitely would not hurt to attach it and run a bungee from the seat to the anchor behind the seat but you dont have to if you are just worried about the seat moving around during the day if that makes sense

    • @NORCALRODREEL
      @NORCALRODREEL  4 года назад

      Thanks Dominik, much appreciated! I did not want to put a fish finder in this kayak primarily because space is limited and the bodies of water I planned to take this in were smaller, I didnt see the need to add a bunch of extra weight, time and money to put one on. I have a Vibe Seaghost now and have bought a fish finder for that since I'll be accessing a lot more water in that Kayak. From a success point of view, my take is always "it's not the plane, it's the pilot." I could have the fanciest fish finder and still not catch a fish. I do as much research as I can before going out on the water and pick where I plan to paddle and what I plan to throw based on season, weather, conditions, etc. For the most part, I've only had a few skunk days on the Tamarack because of this. Learn the body of water, throw a lot of different baits that make sense, and the fish finder then becomes a better tool because at that point you can really hone in on the fish without solely relying on your finder.

      I just want to add, that stadium seat from Amazon has two full length rubber bottom on each side, and with your weight, that sucker ain't going nowhere. I have the same kayak and used to have the same stadium seat til sac river swallowed it earlier this year.

      So I have stress tested the seat in the kayak now and I find that it does lift up on me of I start to dig in to my paddling. Could be a technique thing, don't know. I did flip the yak close to shore though and luckily it was in the shallows so was able to recover the seat. Thing is bolted down now.

    My first time Kayaking and this Kayak held strong. ruclips.net/user/postUgkx4k5UrhC3v_Y4hIEaXLGvHcN5a5aBmZNB The water got pretty rough as a speed boat zipped by me, and the Kayak withstood it (I expected to be capsized). The Ores are very easy to put together, the pump worked beautifully. the seats are a bit hard to sit in after a while (I recommend sitting on the floor). after reading the reviews I was very scared it'd get a hole in it, the material is very strong and durable. The Air valve may need a small Phillips head screwdriver to adjust, other than that, it's well worth the money!(update)I've gone Kayaking in 3 Lakes and 2 rivers totaling about 40 miles. the kayak had two holes and they patched easily and no other problems can't wait for kayaking season this year!

I bring a crate with 2 tackle boxes, a gallon bag of plastics, cart and only two rods. As long as you don’t plan on bringing the kitchen sink, you should be fine 👍🏼 hope that helps!

    How about durability?
    Now I do not plan on taking this thing more than a mile off-shore (It's the most I know I can swim in one go without a life preserver, which I will have on my body), and never in choppy conditions, but is this thing durable?
    It is made in the US, but what do you think? Would you trust this thing a mile offshore with say, 1-2 foot swells?

    • @NORCALRODREEL
      @NORCALRODREEL  Год назад

      If you dont drag it on the ground, it's durable. I dont know if I would trust it in swells offshore - only given the fact it's not as stable as say a Hobie would be in rougher conditions. You'd be taking an additional risk in this boat I'd think in less than ideal conditions. Windy/choppy days on the lake... much different. I've been out before in those conditions and the boat handled well but I wouldnt have wanted to be too far from shore in case conditions worsened. You'd be better in the ocean with a longer, more stable boat eg: 13', wide, etc.
