Did this 8 years ago in my 02 4.7 HO. It’ll chirp tires on the 1-2 shift haha. Everyone thinking this hurts and does harm and blah blah have never worked on a vehicle, probably have a piece of paper with ASE written all over it and probably own tools from a white service truck with red letters on it. Slip creates heat. Both on their own kills an auto, together are detrimental. The quicker and firmer the shifts, the longer an auto will last. The ONLY reason for a soft shift in an auto is for COMFORT and nothing else. Soft, lazy shifts is the equivalent of resting your foot on the clutch pedal 24/7

Great video as usual Martin, I literally did this last week to my WJ. I like it so far, thinking about running wires and putting in a toggle switch. Do you think 18 gauge wires would be suffice to complete the job and where would be a good place tackle when running those two wires through the firewall? Thanks @martinbuilt
There's a couple places one would be on the driver side where the harness comes through the firewall you'll find a couple small grommets near that harness that are easy to run the wires through and then there's another place behind the ECM or the harness goes through the firewall.
02 4.7HO here. Had to do plugs, coils, MAF sensor, IAC sensor, TPS sensor. Ever since doing this I cleared all misfire codes but it throws P0700 and P0740. If I cut this wire will it make torque converter CEL codes go away, or will it throw more codes?? Any help greatly appreciated.
Note once every 10-15 starts the thing runs like a dog spews smoke out the tailpipe and will stall at idle- will restart and it will run normally, but at stops RPM will bounce from a good 600 to 400. Letting off gas in higher gears trans will act up. Rough shifts here and there. Overall tranny shifts good. Its like the Jeep is haunted. Im thinking vacuum leaks.
Hello there I am trying to get more power out of my 05 Durango 4.7 currently I have a CAI a resonator delete and a dynomax race bullet muffler what are more ways to get more power out of my 4.7 I want to do a clutch fan delete and go with an electric fan but idk about doing it my self thanks.Love yours videos tho
This video is a little old and sorry to comment so late but a just had a question, I did the torque management delete which gave me more power that I didn't know my 4.0 wj had the only problem is now my speedometer don't work anymore would there be a reason for that cause I deleted the right wire any answers would be great.
This mode was only meant to be used on the 45RFE and 545RFE transmission. I don't think it will work with the 42RE transmission like you have like you have in your vehicle.
And thank you for bringing up the transmission cause I want to update and upgrade everything I can the wife and I got this at I believe a not to bad of a price have all the receipts carfax matches everything had transmission work done already but would still like to update anyone with any tips we appreciate thank you everyone...
Awesome video and content on your channel. Keep up the great work. Question from my side. I am having an issue where the engine will stall when shifting from N-D or N-R or P-R or P-D. Don't have any error codes related to gearbox. This also only happens when the vehicle is warmed up. 545rfe transmission. Sometime when idling in P or N the engine will stumble and drop rpm then recover again. Any pointers will be appreciated 😎
This sounds a bit like a worn out torque converter. There is two parts the will slip on each other when you're at a stop to keep the engine running but when it wears out, it binds and causes the engine to stop when engaging in a drive gear. That's why when you go from P to N it will stumble but stay running. That'd because both P and N are neutral gears whereas drive engages your car to the ground. It's almost like leaving the clutch out in manual and stopping at a red light. Check your fluid level and condition, hope this helps. Great vids Martin!
@@chrismorton4533 thanks for the insight. I changed the IAC but still the same issue. Also think this is more gearbox related. What I have noticed is when I cruise on highway speed with my foot stable on throttle with a small incline, it's as if it is engaging and disengaging the lockup clutch. The rpm wil fluctuate and can feel it fluctuating. This happens repeatedly. Also when I sometimes engage D it will have a harsh kick where the car will jump forward. Does that diagnose it to the torque converter on it's way out?
@@chrismorton4533 I have alos read up on the Torque Limit Valve Spring and heard that they also fail. Could this also be the cause or will that cause different issues?
Hello Martin, I also have the Trasgo kit and the Sonnax line pressure booster kit. I'm having a code that's not letting the TCM talk with my ECM. Do you think disconnecting this will help? Many thanks to you and your time.
Hello Chris, I'm not too familiar with the Transgo kit I don't think disconnecting that wires going to make any difference but it wouldn't hurt to try.
Just did this today and now i feel like its in limp mode and got a code p0700. Did exactly as described in the video, any thoughts as to why? 2000 4.7L
I believe the 03 Dakota has the NGC ECM and if so it won't work. You can identify the ECM if it has four plugs on it it's the NGC if it has three plugs it's a JTEC
Hey Martin, long time fan and WJ enthusiast here, I did this to my 01 4.7 with noticeable results, I recently ended up with an 04 laredo 4.0 in killer shape and I was curious if it's the same process to ditch torque management for a 44re as it was with the 45rfe? It worked wonders on the black beast and was curious if it was more or less the same for the silver chariot with a 44re. Thanks in advance, -Alec
As far as I know, it is a 45RFE and 545RFE mod only... Take a look and see if there is a green with a yellow striped wire in the number 10 spot of the TCU. And then cut it… lol and see what happens. Thank you for supporting the channel and watching. I appreciate that.😉😎👍
Martin, Do you plan on doing a re-wire tuck and relocation for the computers? If so where do you plan on relocating them? I'm wondering because I am sure off-road WJs would like to have their computers hidden instead of getting splashed when going through streams or mud. Thanks, Tyler
I am planning on moving the TCM for sure unfortunately it's going in a place where an off-roader would not want it just behind the transfer case near the frame. The ECM is going to most likely stay where it's at I'm just going to make the wiring look way better. I had thought about moving the TCM into the glove box location and sacrificed the glove box.
The computers and wiring will be fine, they're designed to withstand water submersion. What's really important is your engine, trans, tcase, and axle vents or openings.
Can torque management be modified in a program like HP tuners to get more power out of shifts compared to disabling the system entirely? Not too familiar with how torque management works
I have a 03 jeep grand Cherokee 4.0 ltr. 4or select track. are you talking about the computer? I also dont see that TCM on my jeep, could you let me know how to do the delete my my jeep
Hey Martin, I recently changed plugs on my 04 4.7 HO and now I have a high idle (around 900 RPM). I didn't change anything else. It idled and about 600-700 before. The old plugs had a huge gap almost .125 the new ones obviously didn't have this. Could this be caused by the TPS? I've reset the computer and still a slightly high idle. At first start it hits 1500 then comes down. What would cause this. Appreciate any info.
I'm betting when you change the plugs you disconnected a vacuum line somewhere. you may have not even realized it and you have a vacuum leak and that's why you have a high idle
Hey Martin. Idk if you could help, But I just tried this and my check engine light came one, and sent code p0206. And says cylinder 6 is open so I rewired the yellow green strip wire and my check enginelight went off and wasn't rough idle. I also cut it from the second location, 8 spot. Any suggestions??
That is so weird because that wire should have nothing to do with any of the cylinders. Try using an ohm meter going from the wire that you cut back to the number 10 position at the TCM to verify that it is the correct wire.
Hello sir, just came across this video. Subscribing now. I have a 2004 Overland with 6.5” lift and I pull my boat which ways with the trailer 4200lbs. Just a 10 min backroad ride to the lake. @@martinbuilt I will definitely be looking for that yellow/green wire. That will be a nice little mod to add to my 70mmTB, dual short air intakes with heat shield below, fan clutch delete, magnaflow w/ dual exhausts, and twin hood scoops with one scoop with the customized old air box fitted tight against the hood cutout (like the one you did in a previous video). Hope to see some videos with your new '01 Dakota. There's a lot of us Dakota owners out here ;)
Use a sonax line pressure kit. Much safer. This is not an advisable idea. I've tested this and yes you will get a much firmer shift not just firm but very fast quick shift good for drag racing but the transmission will not be happy about it. It severely effects 5th gear operation at cruising speeds and the operation of the continuously variable logic in the tcm. I can't say this enough. Do not do this have you're transmission tune if possible but not likely with the 45 / 545rfe get a line pressure kit so your transmission functions as it should and this only cost $50 and takes 5 minutes and you have a firmer quicker shift safely. Yes it will function this way but it will not function properly and can actually cause the engine to Stahl when too much pressure is applied inside the trans at the wrong point in time.
Well, my transmission has never complained about it.. lol The only time you even know that the torque management has been deleted is at 3/4 to full throttle at normal driving conditions it shifts exactly the same as it did before.
Not sure if it’s a coincidence, but shortly after doing the torque delete, my car started bucking hard on the highway at certain speeds, and then stalled out completely into a crank no start. P1391 replaced both sensors with mopar, not much improvement. I can get it to start but it’s out of time and misfiring very rich. Starting to think I cracked the tone ring or the timing chain skipped.
Well this is what Google has to say about it. 0W-30 is a special type of motor oil. It has a low viscosity and can be used in place of 5W-30 or 10W-30. The 0W-30 is a fully synthetic motor oil type that is capable of enhancing and improving fuel economy due to its lower friction properties. I may give that a try for the winter and then back to 5W30 for the summer.🤔

Hi mate .I live in England and my Jeeps TCM is on the right hand side of engine bay will this be same passenger and are you. Sure this will do no harm
Either we have seen this video before or I can see into the future.... Martin? :P
Maybe you are thinking of the 45RFE to 545RFE conversion video
@@martinbuilt you are 110% correct... My bad :)
Could you tell a big difference between shift times?
it is quicker, firmer and zero cost
Hi..its work for jeep grand cherokee 3.1 td 2000, with 44re trans? Thank you
Hello there I am trying to get more power out of my 05 Durango 4.7 currently I have a CAI a resonator delete and a dynomax race bullet muffler what are more ways to get more power out of my 4.7 I want to do a clutch fan delete and go with an electric fan but idk about doing it my self thanks.Love yours videos tho
Thank you, a good way would be to find yourself a set of HO camshafts or even a set of 08 camshafts
@@martinbuilt yeah didn't think about that lol and thank you for letting me know.....
That definitely sounds like the idle air control valve either needs to be cleaned or replaced.
@@pottaz did you solve this problem? I think I’m having a similar situation. Thanks
Is there a video on how to install an oil catch can on a Dodge Ram 4.7L 2003?
I need to do one.
Will this hurt my 4.0 ? I’m not sure juss asking wouldn’t mind doing it
I'm sorry but this will not work on the 4.0 it uses a different transmission then the 4.7
Thank you for watching.
Is that mod for the 4.7 only or for the straight 6 as well ?
Can u just cut the wire? N cover them after?
Yes that will work.
Thank you for watching.
2000 4.7L
The only way I can explain that as it's got to be the wrong wire
Did you solve this? One other guy said his #8 wire was pink
Thanks for your videos. I assume you have 45RFE or 545RFE transmission, did you improved it with overhaul kits anyhow?
It has a 545RFE transmission, I haven't made any other mods to the trams as of yet.
How can I disable on 44RE 1997 Grand cherokee 318V8? Can I?
Not that I know of.
Hey Martin...is there any similar modifications like this one, that you know of for a OBD1,? we have a 1995 ZJ with the 42 RE, and the 4.0.
Not that I'm aware of.
Would that work for an 03 Dak with the 4.7 and 545rfe trans?
I believe the 03 Dakota has the NGC ECM and if so it won't work. You can identify the ECM if it has four plugs on it it's the NGC if it has three plugs it's a JTEC
@@martinbuilt the 02 had that, mine has the 4 plug...all in one unit
Hey Martin, long time fan and WJ enthusiast here, I did this to my 01 4.7 with noticeable results, I recently ended up with an 04 laredo 4.0 in killer shape and I was curious if it's the same process to ditch torque management for a 44re as it was with the 45rfe? It worked wonders on the black beast and was curious if it was more or less the same for the silver chariot with a 44re. Thanks in advance,
-Alec
As far as I know, it is a 45RFE and 545RFE mod only...
Take a look and see if there is a green with a yellow striped wire in the number 10 spot of the TCU. And then cut it… lol and see what happens.
Thank you for supporting the channel and watching. I appreciate that.😉😎👍
@@martinbuilt that's right, worst case scenario I have to reconnect it and reset the tcu and ecu lol.
Ok what about a 2001 jeep grand Cherokee 4.0 l I don't see that wire
This only works for the 4.7 with 45RFE or 545RFE transmission.
Martin,
Do you plan on doing a re-wire tuck and relocation for the computers? If so where do you plan on relocating them?
I'm wondering because I am sure off-road WJs would like to have their computers hidden instead of getting splashed when going through streams or mud.
Thanks,
Tyler
I am planning on moving the TCM for sure unfortunately it's going in a place where an off-roader would not want it just behind the transfer case near the frame. The ECM is going to most likely stay where it's at I'm just going to make the wiring look way better.
I had thought about moving the TCM into the glove box location and sacrificed the glove box.
The computers and wiring will be fine, they're designed to withstand water submersion. What's really important is your engine, trans, tcase, and axle vents or openings.
@@martinbuilt What is the advantage of moving it by the t-case? is this for asthetics for the clean and accessible engine-bay?
Can this be done to a 2007 grand Cherokee 4.7?
Maybe with some type of after market programmer.
Can torque management be modified in a program like HP tuners to get more power out of shifts compared to disabling the system entirely?
Not too familiar with how torque management works
yes, in a HP Tuner torque management can be modified.
@@martinbuilt can it be modified to increase power more or equal to a delete?
I have a 03 jeep grand Cherokee 4.0 ltr. 4or select track. are you talking about the computer? I also dont see that TCM on my jeep, could you let me know how to do the delete my my jeep
I should have specified this is for the 4.7 L that utilize the 45RFE the 4.0 uses a 42re transmission
Can this mod be done to a 545RFE trans on my 06 grand as well?
I did the line pressure boost With the special pigtail.........
no, this can only be done to JTEC ECM vehicles
What about a 2000 Dodge Dakota that I seen you recently purchased can you do this too?
yes you sure can
Hey Martin, I recently changed plugs on my 04 4.7 HO and now I have a high idle (around 900 RPM).
Does it works on a durango rt 2002?
Yeah as far as I know the only way it works is on a j-tech computer which is the three plug I believe you have the four plug ECM which is the NGC.
Hello sir, just came across this video. Subscribing now. I have a 2004 Overland with 6.5” lift and I pull my boat which ways with the trailer 4200lbs. Just a 10 min backroad ride to the lake. Going to try this but I was wondering if anyone makes a chip for the HO motors? Called Superchips and was told they only make one for the non HO motors. Thanks!
Or a tuner?
It can be done with HPtuner but that would cost you $500
@@martinbuilt would you say it’s worth the money? Or would going from 3.73 gear to 4.56 be more beneficial? Thanks again.
@@xrpinvested970 anytime you start adding weight to the equation, 9 out of 10 times, gears are best choice. Even take full size trucks.... same drivetrain but weight ratings increase with gearing. It simply makes life easier for your powertrain
Do you have rev limiter on your jeep ?
Yeah, I believe the factory setting is at 5800
I was able to turn it off and have turned 6300 RPM before.
Great video Martin! I have a 2000 Dakota 4.7 Magnum. Do you think it will work on this? Thanks
Yes it should, I just got a 2001 Dakota with a 4.7 and will be cutting the wire.
There's a lot of us Dakota owners out here ;)
@@mmmachines potent recipe
Well, my transmission has never complained about it.. lol
The only time you even know that the torque management has been deleted is at 3/4 to full throttle at normal driving conditions it shifts exactly the same as it did before.
Would depinning the wire be the same as cutting it?
Yes, that would be the same.👍
Did that and it throw a torque management code and dont have kickdown when i floor it 👍
That surprises me. 😮
What year vehicle and engine do you have?
@@martinbuilt 2000 WJ with a 4.7
@@petitepatate9727 It should have worked. Are you sure the wire that was cut went to the #10 in the connector on the TCM?
Hi Martin
Have you done anything with the Hemis yet?
I have an 06 grand Cherokee with 5.7 Hemi...........
*perk*
no have not got into the Hemi yet.
Do you still get the faster firmer shift if you shift it manually at the track instead of leaving it in drive?
yes it shifts firmer in both D and shifting manually, I would like if it shift quicker though.
Hi Martin can I use 0w30 oil on my wj 4.7l
Well this is what Google has to say about it.
0W-30 is a special type of motor oil. It has a low viscosity and can be used in place of 5W-30 or 10W-30. The 0W-30 is a fully synthetic motor oil type that is capable of enhancing and improving fuel economy due to its lower friction properties.
I may give that a try for the winter and then back to 5W30 for the summer.🤔
can you do this on the 4 plug ECU?
Not that I know of. You would most likely need some type of performance programmer.
I did this today and set a ceck engine light! Is this normal?
BTW love your videos
No, you should not have a service engine.
And thank you for watching.
Lol yellow with green, not green with yellow! Hahaha, I watched it a second time, doooop! Thanks man, I seriously enjoy your videos!
