    Finished install today, ran into some issues with removing fuel rail for 03 Dakota SLT , ended up being able to disconnect the left side of fuel rail to fit in the new intake, I was unable to disconnect all the right side injectors due to corrosion, the connectors were just disintegrating . Also had to disconnect the metal A/C pipes that sit over top of the intake for removal and installation of the intake manifold. This video was a lifesaver @martinbuilt thank you! Snapped my cruise control cable and my vacuum hose from the intake but she running good now!

    Hey Martin,
    Just discovered your video series on the 4.7 and I gotta say your segments are awesome! I ended up subscribing as I picked up an 03 Dodge Durango about 6 months ago with a toasted trans for $600. It is equipped with a 4.7, 545RFE trans, NV 233 t-case, 9.25 rear with limited slip 3.55 axle ratio. I have since replaced the trans and truthfully was gonna flip it for resale but, after 2 months of driving it I gotta admit I kinda like it so, I've decided to play with it a bit. After viewing your vids last night and this morning I hit the local Pull A Part and low and behold... I came home with a pair of the 08 cams (Left 53021979AA, Right 53021980AA) and the intake manifold (53032761AI) A quick note.....Your part number for the intake ends in AJ but, I think I have an earlier version as the Durango I pulled the parts from had a November of 07 build date. My 03 Durango only has 102K on it so, My plan is to install the cams and intake with the adapter and run my stock throttle body for now. A performance exhaust and cold air intake are also on the list as well. I have a source for Chevy Ecotec 12 hole injectors. I saw that you installed them in your WJ. How do they work with the 08 intake and cams? Thank you for the vids and the inspiration!

    Again excellent work! When I did my manifold swap for the PCV, I grabbed a steel brake line with a bore about the same as the factory rubber. I ran it back and under the manifold. It exits under the A/C compressor and wraps around to the PCV. It just made for a cleaner install.

    Hi Martin! As always, love your videos and I appreciate you putting them out there for us to use as guides. I wanted to share something though. I'm going through the process of installing an '08 intake manifold on my '01. The idea of lowering the engine down to get the new manifold in place didn't seem very appealing to me, so I was prepared to take the easy way out and cut the cowling just enough to get it to slide into place. Well, I set the manifold in as far as I could so I could see what needed to be cut, and wouldn't you know it, the '08 manifold slid right into place! I had to wiggle it and move it around some, but it went right in! No having to cut anything and I didn't have to lower the engine.

      @al carr swap took about 5 hours. if youre going to upgrade injectors and the intake i recommend doing them both at the same time since you have to remove the fuel rail anyhow. the upgraded injectors are the Denso 12582704. you can find reman ones on ebay for about $100 for 8. as for the throttle body, the newer 2008+ intakes used a different throttle body which requires an adapter. the adapter cost me $175. ill send you a link to the guy on Ebay who makes them : www.ebay.com/itm/1999-2007-Dodge-4-7-2008-and-up-Intake-Manifold-Adapter-plates/303142636356?hash=item4694b58b44:g:ltQAAOSwOh5cfXOs

    Great video Martin, This is the most detailed instruction videos of installing the 2008 intake on the 99-07 4.7L vehicles I have EVER seen! You shed a lot of light on one area most people have issues with and that's swapping over the hardware from the older intake to the 08 intake. I like your 3/4 pipe plug idea however I'm just concerned a back fire could pop it out causing an un-commanded/uncontrolled WOT situation.

      Nice to hear from people that have done the 08 cams and have successfully ran it for a long-time with the stock non HO Springs. Thinking about sending a set of HO cams to Crane Cams they're the only ones that have responded and said that they would regrind them. Maybe someday I'll get around installing a set of ported HO cylinder heads. I would like to have HO block as well.

    • @martinbuilt
      @martinbuilt 6 лет назад

      @Dino Piccinin which ones are you going to lose the low end on the 206 or the 08 cams.. yes so far I found three sets of ho cams. I let a set of 08 cams get away from me because I didn't know about them at the time. I'm keeping my eyes out for them... and yes the specs on the 08 cam are more aggressive than the 206 I believe the 08 cam has a wider angle of lobe Center though

    I’m following your videos and this upgrade in particular I’ve been hearing about for years from Dakota drivers. I have a 2002 Dakota QC 4x4 with the 4.7engine. So I got an 08 intake from a Chrysler Aspen 4.7 and am in the process of cleaning it and fitting it. One issue arose that you touched on, but was confusing. The intake from the 08 Aspen didn’t come with the 8 double ended intake stud sleeves. Those 8 steel sleeves that get pounded into the perimeter of the intake to guide the studs down to bolt down the intake had to come from my stock intake. But your right. They don’t fit, except for 2 (1smaller one and 1 flat sided). An option is to drill out the other holes with a 1/2” bit ( IIRC LOL) and wobble the bit some to fatten it up on both ends. THEN, the sleeves will push down into the plastic most of the way and you can tap them in and reuse all your studs. One other thing is the PCV (NOT PVC LOL) set up. My intake came with a short PCV hose that connects to the intake and what looks like the same PCV you threaded into the drivers side head. So I’m getting that PCV (if UPS will stop losing it and deliver it) from your amazon link. So that’s a short run to that side of the engine. What about the other side? Can I just put a cone filter on the passenger side 5/8” pcv inlet? Or do I need to reuse some of the old tubing to run that passenger side pcv inlet to my double coned filter eBay intake? Does this passenger side even need vacuum also? BTW I’m going to be getting a oil fill hose WITHOUT the pcv valve in it and replace my stock one like you did that has it.

    To avoid waisting gas and cautions you can remove the fuel pump relay and turn your key off and on 2-3 times and it will remove the pressure from your rail so you don’t have to do the step you mentioned. Test it out and thank me later. 👍🏼

    Excellent! I found an intake manifold from pull it yard on a 2008 4.7 cherokee and plan to install on my 2006 4.7 commander. when I got it home, I found small pieces of metal inside the manifold and I think I have them all out. Question: Can I submerge the manifold in water and flush it out to make sure there are no leaks and to get any additional junk out that might still be there? Pro's or Con's?

    • @martinbuilt
      @martinbuilt 5 лет назад

      I flushed mine before I installed it with Purple Power but that was to remove any carbon and oil deposits. Sounds like the engine you got that from had a valve seat drop. That will cause the metal to go to all the cylinders through the intake manifold. If you have an inspection scope I would look inside the intake and make sure no metal particles are lodged into the plastic.

    Yeah man! Thanks again for the heads up on the difference in manifold height, I'm of the same mind. I'd rather not cut my cowling or make any modifications at all other than the intended job at hand. Would it be easier to remove the motor mounts entirely with the four bolts rather than trying to massage them out of the rubber? Ive got a manifold coming. Again thanks for being a trail blazer. On the shoulders of Giants

    • @martinbuilt
      @martinbuilt 2 года назад

      Thank you, James. You are very welcome. Just so everybody understands You only need to remove the 2 motor mount bolts to lower the engine enough to get the intake manifold installed. Once the intake is installed the engine can be raised back up and the motor mount bolts returned.

    • @jamesdewer
      @jamesdewer 2 года назад

      @@martinbuilt Hello Martinbuilt, I've never had to pull the mounts , yet. Presumably the single bolt hole through the mount has a steel sleeve. I'd hate to be under there and try banging a bolt through solid rubber. A steel sleeve is hopefully inset for steel on steel. I might add the sound of your 4.7 is most auspicious and envy inducing.
      I'd further like to add this video alone is responsible for the spike and absence of available 2008 WK intakes.

I bought so many parts from them I lost track myself. The IAC is crititcal for cold idle, mileage and proper metering of air entering the manifold. Mounting the MPS threades right into the left side of the intake and is very responsive a location.

I just got done installing 08 + intake on my 04 overland... after seeing what you went through I was prepared to lower the engine but mine actually went in with no resistance... all I did was remove the weather Stripping and I got it in.. the intake I installed was Part # 53032761A1 and donor vehicle was a 2009 ram 1500.. maby the later ones were a little bigger? I have no clue.. but I did have a 1 problem and anybody in stalling 08+ intake on 4.7 H.O will have the same.. bank 2 knock sensor hits the bottom of intake and will prevent proper alignment of the intake.. so mine are now relocated to the outside of the block.. It's still like to know why mine dropped in and yours didn't...

      It could be that your motor mounts are warm enough this causes the engine to set just low enough to get the intake manifold in. I had recently replaced my motor mounts and I think that is what the difference is.

      Yes for the HO engine I would run the champion platinums or I hear a lot of good stuff about the NGK. Yes the engine definitely runs better at cooler Temps. I currently run a 180 thermostat but the radiator is not efficient enough to keep the engine out 180. You have the hydraulic fan the same as I do I am personally not that crazy about that fan. In theory it should be great but I feel the RPM is a little on the slow side. I did figure a way how to pump up the RPM but I also noticed that gas mileage suffered. So I am currently working on a electric fan conversion. I don't want to do the full install on the fan yet since we do have cool temperatures I want to wait till things warm up a bit so I can see the actual difference.
