Hi all welcome back to another video Dereck Reacts back at it again! This time around we take a look at another reaction from Daniel Balavoine made possible by all of you. My last reaction was a jaw-dropper, this time Daniel kicks things into high gear with this upbeat number. Watch my bananas go flying off the wagon!

A song he wrote to protest against the rising of far right in France in the middle of 80's. It is also a tribute to his wife who was a jewish marrocan.
His fight for human dignity and against poverty and hunger in the world, mostly in Somalia, make him a symbol for all of us.
We miss him, he's gone too soon...
hi from france. For us French, it is very important that a guy listens to the songs with an outside ear without knowing the past of this singer, which proves his talent and not the love that we have for him. was a thunderclap. He was a humanist who died in full glory. a special program has been devoted to him and the presenter after his song which makes him known "the singer" sita his last words of this song "I want to die unhappy so as not to regret anything" then say "I hope he died happy. can. a while later it is coluche who kills himself on a motorbike but that's another story. 2 humanists died the same year
His heart is full of love, ...a French MJ
heu, for coluche, it's a motorcycle vs truck accident, ""officially""
Both murdered by French governement
Indeed, Daniel Balavoine is a monument❤
He was a good man, fighting against racism, poverty and injustice. His wife was from Marocco. They had a son, Jérémie, born in 1984. Daniel wrote the song "Dieu que c'est beau" (God, how beautiful it it) after the birth of his son. Jérémie was only 2 when Daniel died and his wife was pregnant with their second child, a girl, Joana (born 5 months after her father's death). Both of his children are musicians.
Sauvez l'amour me fais monté a chaque fois les larmes
His other greatest hits :
Daniel Balavoine - Mon Fils Ma Bataille (1980)
Daniel Balavoine - La vie ne m'apprend rien (1980)
Daniel Balavoine - Sauver l'amour (1985)
Daniel Balavoine - Le chanteur (1978)
Daniel Balavoine - Quand on arrive en ville (1978)
Daniel Balavoine - Vivre ou Survivre (1982)
x Daniel Balavoine - Tous les cris les S.O.S. (1985)
x Daniel Balavoine - L' Aziza (1985)
ha ha excellent :)
Sos d'un terrien en détresse !
"dieu que c'est beau" too 😍👍
@@emmanuelernandez7067 both "SOS d'un terrien en détresse" and "Dieu que c'est beau" are some of my favourite but unfortunately there are no official videos for these songs as far as I know.
My favorite is "vivre ou survivre".

Nice words, Yes especially with the current Rise 😉
I wanted to trade crypto but got confused by the fluctuation in price
Thank you very much Dereck ! 😉👍
Daniel Balavoine was one of our greatest artists, and a wonderful human being to boot. His untimely death was a huge loss...
Leurs œuvres sont elles éternelles 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
His name is pronounced Ba-lav-WAN with "w" and the stress on the last syllable. Thanks for taking my request. Aziza is an Arabic female name. It actually means "precious"
yes "OINE" like number "ONE". At that time, Daniel was for me the "one".
Ba-lav-one for him ;)

I remember when he died, it was all over the news. My mother wasn't even french (my parents are portuguese emmigrants), and she cried. That's how popular he was!
Like your mom, I cryed a lot. I was very young but I perfectly remember it (as 11/09).
"DIEU QUE C'EST BEAU" PLEASE IT'S HIS BEST SONG REALLY
In this Daniel 's song , there is the sound of Simple Minds !
Daniel Balavoine and Frida together with Belle (ABBA's - Arrival) , so wonderful....

The Rock opera "Starmania" 1978 (with Balavoine) : "Quand on arrive en ville" and "SOS d'un terrien en détresse".
Michel Berger : La groupie du pianiste (1980)
Magnifique Daniel Balavoine on t'aime ❤
His last single before his death, the next one Sauvez L'amour was relesed post-mortem, he don't even appears in the video clip.
Yes! It's my fav this one! To pay tribute to him, he appears in a photo at the end.
His hits are countless... You should make an entire week just with Daniel, Dereck
Also "Vivre ou survivre", "Petit homme mort au combat", and so many others.
+1 for "le chanteur".
Legendary French song !!!! Thanks from Paris, France ! Awesome reaction!!!
Love your reactions Dereck. They are so uplifting and make me happy. Love from France 💖🇫🇷
You will love Le Chanteur (the singer) form Balavoine. The chorus is simply GLORIOUS, he gives the full power of his unique voice.
Hello, I think you love France Gall. You must listen "Évidemment". Michel Berger wrote this song for the death of Balavoine, his friend.
Yep and Cabrel wrote a song called Dormir debout about Daniel balavoine as well and it s a pretty good track
Daniel Balavoine. Beautiful musician, beautiful human being...Dearly missed.
Hi Dereck i don't know if you've already listened to France Gall "evidemment" but i recommended this song.
This song is a tribute to Daniel Balavoine his friend, shortly after this death.
It's such a beautiful and sad song at the same time.
Thank you for yours vidéos which take me back to the hits of the 80s and more !
C'est l'une de mes préférées
There is also «confidentiel» from Jean-Jacques Goldman I think
"partir avant les miens"is for me one of his best song..he is talking about his own burial and his voice in this song is very high tone 😍😍
Daniel is missed dearly. His music lives on forever. L'Aziza is a masterpiece.
J’adore. Merci de mettre en avant ce grand artiste ❤❤😊there a song that I love. « Un enfant assis attend la pluie « . ❤️❤️
Yes Dereck...
Nowadays you just turn on your radio in France, you still hear Daniel Balavoine. Everyday !! Ans even sometimes at the same time on two stations. Balavoine is a legend.
The emotions that you get from his music and his themes and his passion are so accurate! Everytime I listen to him it gets me over and over. ( I was born 6 years before you). Thank you for making those reviews
Simple : all balavoine's song are amazing and known by all french and all generation Even today : my little sister and her friends who were born in 2000 sing and dance on balavoine's songs, like I do, like my parents did, and ( I hope ) like my children will do. An amazing artist and humanist.
MY FAVORITE SONG!!😍 yes he was a very good person❤️ i love him very much, thanks for this reaction!
The lyrics mean "your yellow star is your skin, you don't have a choice, don't wear it like you'd carry a burden" (a reference to the yellow star that Jews were forced to wear during WWII). It's a true hymn against racism that resonates for us to this day.
5:32 you killed me with laughter! when you dance suddenly lol how not to lose your bananas with this song ? lol try "le chanteur" ! balavoine this big man ! we loved him so much
He was a wonderful artist and man. We miss him a lot here in france. So nice to see somebody from a diffferent culture listen to it and understand how great he was. Thanks.
I remember Daniel with his duet with Frida -from Abba [Belle]. What a lovely voice he had .
Frida did backing vocals on Dieu Que C'Est Beau (1984) the "Aya Aya Aya" it's HER!
Daniel Balavoine «Sauver l'amour» is a great song. Thank you
His best songs are "le chanteur" and "mon fils, ma bataille".
Yes he definitely needs to listen those songs
But he did not compose those
@@ALyub-dl6do who cares ? ...
Who cares ? Maybe people who think that his best songs are on "sauver l'amour".
The career of Daniel Balavoine was so intense, so quick. The success really start in 1978 with his first hit "Le Chanteur" and the Opera-Rock "Starmania" (Tycoon) and brutally stopped in 1986, 35 years ago.
I was a kid, I still remember this song the clip and what I felt. It was dark years, immigration I came from. We were poor and lived in project in a suburb.. and then.. a little bit of poetry and sensitivity in my world, the goonies, the never ending story and .. Balavoine
You brought out many details I had never considered before, even though I've listened to it many times.
Balavoine is a great singer. 1985 was his best year. Like another great song from the same album (with crazy instruments, a lot of work and sleepless nights to get there), there is "SAUVER L'AMOUR".
Otherwise, his inescapable first success that we talk about most often : "LE CHANTEUR".
Sauver L'Amour (Save The Love) the BEST! 😉
Daniel Balavoine is one of the most regretted artist in France. Thank you dereck
I was six when this song came out. I remember the deep feeling of despaire i suffered even at such a young age when he died. It was also weird to see the debries of the crash all other the news and this song and video clip playing over again and again at the same period. It was like he was singing for us, beyond the boundries of death. He was very present and very abscent at the same time. Really a weird weird time.
You're so spot on Dereck when go: "he seemed to be a great man", oh yeah, he definitely was...so genuine, so flayed, revolted by injustice, always cared for the poorest ones, he even had the "couilles" (balls) to tell François Mitterand (former french president, charismatic) what he thought of his politics live on TV, without stammering, so charismatic too...he was a monument of french music, gone way too soon in a helicopter crash on the Paris-Dakar race in 1986 at 33 years old. Such a huge waste...😢
Many thanks Dereck!!
PS: he had an unusual voice indeed, which he hated to tell you the truth...many people didn't trust him in the very beginning, telling him that his voice was too strange to be a popular singer...these idiots were so fucking wrong...
Mitterand charismatic? not!
I´ve met Balavoine once though (in Dax) :) and he was very charismatic indeed !
@@alaincouillaud8997As a President, let's say that he was more charismatic than Hollande.😁 But yeah, this word suited Balavoine so much more indeed...gone too soon.
And if you want to make a battle with Dimash (like with Lara Fabian). Listen "sos d'un terrien en détresse". Balavoine is the original singer :) (sorry my English is not really good)
Wonderful, Dereck! Wonderful!!! From the same album as "Tous les cris les S.O.S.", and just continue with that album, please. The whole album is out of this world. My suggestion for the next reaction : "Sauver l'amour" :-)
Yes the BEST and my fav too! 👍
I think about Grégory Lemarchal with "SOS d'un terrien en détresse ". Too young to die . . . . Les meilleurs partent les premiers !
@@pascalmarfaing1690 nope
Aaaaaaah you did it 🙌 🙌 ❤️ Vive Dereck 💕 vive la France 🇫🇷 🙌 🙌 ❤️ et RIP Balavoine 💓
Yes Dereck, Balavoine's voice is unique, unusual, very particular and he puts his voice at the service of great songs. Wonderfull artist.
Ma chanson préférée comme beaucoup d autres. Solo guitar by john Woolloff... excellent
This is a song for tolerance. He told that , what matter the color of your skin or your religion, you are always welcome in my home, If you want to be here, there's no problems for me, don't be afraid by the bad looks. Balavoine was a humanist, and he dies in Sahara in crash of helicopter by transporting material to build wells for the villages without water. He dies with Thierry Sabine , the organizer of the rally "Paris-Dakar".
For another french singer with a great voice there is also Michel Polnareff, "Goodbye Marylou", "Le bal des Laze".
Thanks very much for your review. Daniel Balavoine's 1985 LP, Sauver l'Amour, was on top of the records sales during 1 year (1986).
It's track L'Aziza dropped in the top 50 after being number 1 during 8 weeks, because it was then replaced by another track, Sauver l'Amour (same title as the LP).
« Le chanteur » et « sos d’un terrien en détresse » are my faves from him... it’s just so beautiful. It still gives me chills
You reacted to my favorite Daniel Balavoine song !!! 😍😍😍 Thank you so much !
Yes and I hope too Sauver L'Amour (Save Love) 1986.
Yes, good idea ! I would also like Pour La Femme Veuve Qui s'Éveille for example 😀
@@najiaansari6483 Yes me too. I already gave him the link for this song! i like it and especially for the "sound". For me it's an "experimental" song for 1983, the BEST of this album "Loin Des Yeux De L'Occident".
Bravo Dereck ... you understood everything about who Daniel Balavoine was .... he didn't sing, he lived his songs .... he was not only a singer but a spiritual father for many French people
This song was for his wife, Corinne ... all his songs were a message. ... the more you will discover Daniel Balavoine, the more you will love this man and what he represented for us ...
He died 7 years before I was born but, in 1986.
I have a deep respect for this man who left too early

I don't think so. Affaire de goût! It's an awesome gem but Daniel sung more than 30 songs that touch me even more...
Written especially for him, but not by him. But you're right to fully appreciate the Balavoine's voice, it's a must.
To write it they asked Daniel Balavoine to sing farest down and the farest high he could, and they wrote the chorus using those two extremes notes. That's why it's a really difficult song to sing for most of people.
The Best in France ♡♡♡♡♡

Hi from France. Thanks to react on french singers. Daniel Balavoine was one of famous french singer. He inspired a lot of people with his songs and we never forget him
Looooove when you listen to us Dereck 😉 keep em coming!
A so good singer we lost Merci beaucoup pour ce souvenir !
Like almost evrytime with Balavoine, this is a song about universal love. At that time France, mid 80's, racism was growing because of a migration wave coming from north African, lots of muslim people (Algeria, Morocco...etc) arrived in France (the migration wave started in the 70's precisely). So, in response of the racism sh*t, a lot of antiracist art and antiracist associations were created. This song is about a little girl who had to leave her sunny country to start a new life in the cold Paris (cold weather, cold people), the chorus says "your colour and your words, it's allright for me", it's a song about welcoming foreign people with different skin, culture, language in France, arms open wide. Beautiful humanist song.
He died too soon but his discography is quite rich! So many meaningful songs to listen, to enjoy. He is one of my favorite, even if it’s not my generation: he died when I was 1y.o
Daniel Balavoine was, indeed a great man with an imense enpathy for the world. He had fight in public television with the french president Francois Mitterand on what to do to reduce poverty in france and the world. He was very ingaged in charity, equality, against racism etc...(as you can see in this particular song about a girl from Magrheb comming in France to live a better life.)
As you said, he died at age 33, in an helicopter accident during the 1986 Paris-Dakar rally. He was in the chopper with Thierry Sabine, Director of the Paris-Dakar He was folllowing the race and use it as a medium to inform the world about the poverty in Africa. Daniel was doing charity work and giving water pumps to the poor villages having issues with water supplies.
Im telling you all this from memory. I'm french and I was born in late 83 and still feel for him.
hi from France thanks for reacting about this amazing singer
@Dereck Hello,

By cons, I don't know if I'm wrong but it seems to me speed of song was just a lil bit accelerated compared to original, wasn't it?
I suggest you to now react to "Vivre ou Survivre" first and just after to "Aimer est plus fort que d'être aimer", and to finish with "Sauver l'amour".
First cause I think "Vivre ou Survivre" is certainly the all first new wave French song ever product (I can't imagine what Daniel music could be if he was always with us!). The second is in same wave-synth vein but with even more experience in processing sound way. And of course always this dull rage rumbling in lyrics. The last, cause song bridge will make you fall from your chair ...Sure your bananas will roll on the floor! :D
3 titles to discover without delay.
Amitiés from south France,
Dereck, "SOS d'un terrien en détresse" is absolutly beautiful and amazing ! And VERY hard to sing ! Please listen to this song and share your reaction !

Thank you for this react, this was a massive hit in France and you were right, Daniel Balavoine doesn't singing, he lived his songs. You can chosse "Mon fils ma bataille" or "Vivre ou survivre" for the next one, sure you'll like it !
I love your reaction ! Thank you for making me relive our French music. I had a great evening thanks to you XD !
bravo for the video, the community is asking for more French humanist songs like this! the current events in the Middle East, the leaders would do well to draw inspiration from his texts
A great song against racism. A great song and and a nice tribute to his wife.
Bonjour
Merci
I was literally just going to introduce you to that music video, but you've got gotten there already!
Glad you like it, as it was one of the best-ever French 80's songs! Those of us in the French-speaking world used to love him a lot, and are all quite sad that *he died in a plane crash right after that MV was made!* And *fun fact:* the *woman* in the video *was his real wife!* I can relate to it, as I'm a Vietnamese guy and my girlfriend is Algerian.
"L' Aziza" is still loved today, and is a staple for French singing contests, like "N'oubliez pas les paroles" (Don't forget the lyrics):
