After rooting around in the menus, I came across the Ambient Mode app (on my Sony Google TV). Settings > Apps > See all apps > Show system apps (at the bottom) > Ambient Mode > Disable
Only do this if you are okay with no Screensaver. Mine tripped even while watching TV or playing my PS5, so it's worth the trade-off for me.

Now I can watch apps like Apple TV and others without having to worry about pausing any of those apps when watching a show or movie.
What happens is after a few minutes the screensaver would come on and then when you press ok to go back to watching what you paused you are then forced to fast forward to the place you paused the app at.
Ruining the experience I would think a billion dollar company would get but alas they don’t or it’s something involving money for google.

Thank goodness you made this video. I kept looking up screen saver and it never occurred to me to go to “ambient mode”. I’m so sick and tired of Sonys ambient music, if I hear it again , I’m going to vomit. Lol
My Sony KD-55x85K didn't have developer options in settings, the screen saver kicks in about 15 mins when watching under browser mode, I tried to look for it with the instructions but to no avail.
Thank you so much. My new Hisense u7k kept turning on the screensaver while I was using music apps. I enabled Developer mode and set the screen to stay awake. It's working so far.
My Toshiba (owned by Hisense) also did the same when I watching Disney+ Hotstar. Let me try this out.
@@valeriebull8157 Got the U8K and the same thing happened to me. Developer mode is not in my menu and Hisense told me it was removed.
So I went to apps/system apps then disabled Ambient mode in that app.
Working so far.
I’ll update if it goes back to the ruin your experience mode.

My chrome cast just doesn’t have the developer options menu in the settings. Do I have to enable this another way or have they removed this in the month since this video has been uploaded
You have to click 7 times on the System button in setting to activate the developer mode. Google it

Ok, but how do i let my Chromecast go to Ambient mode but not fully turn off?

Where is the setting to turn on ambient after certain time. Like I want ambient mode to appear after 2 mins but that setting is not present 😢

This can be done so much quicker: click settings, screensaver, done
Clicking on "Settings," and then selecting "Screensaver" does not work. All this does is show you the "Screensaver" so you can manually see the "Time" and "Weather."
FORGET THIS!!! I AM HAVING PROBLEMS GETTING AMBIENT MODE TO TURN ON WHEN I TURN ON THE TV!!!!
