I picked up a blue 4K one a few days ago since they were marked down to $40. I thought these would only be good for non-smart tv's, but I've recently noticed my 4K Samsung is losing app support as time goes on. It no longer supports Discovery+ or Apple TV+ and knowing that, it sounds like as time goes by, more and more smart tv's will start losing app support. Hopefully this is supported much longer, breathing further life into a less than 5 year old TV for many years to come.
It should cause all you do is cast it from a device and you just have to update the app. That’s what I’ve been doing through my iphone. I have the chromecast ultra though.
I’m considering one bc there’s a few apps not supported by the Samsung App Store so I would cast with an older 1080 chromecast or use the built in Internet browser. We have shared media accounts on our Samsung tv so I would sometimes use the chromecast feature as a “logged out” option but the 1080 was obvious for some services, thus considering the upgrade. I probably won’t use the google tv apps unless like you said, there’s lack of app support. I also hope it gives a 4k purchase some longevity, I sometimes see regret stories after only a year or two
@@aaron-fauth This works for most apps I think, except being an Android user we don't have access to a dedicated Apple TV+ app unfortunately. I have the old round one from 2017. One of my favorite features is the screensavers Google broadcasts.... Do the new ones still do that? I like using my tv as a cycling art piece in my living room.
I've been considering getting the 4k verison. But that model has been out for a couple years now. I wonder when will Google refresh the 4k version and gives it an update? If soon I'll probably wait for that.
Yes but unfortunately streaming will only allow hd becase of the tv, 4k will only work on youtube and movies.I've been doing video editing for about 30 years and clarity works at subpixel level (3 subpixels x HD) as an effect of lumasharpen and chromasharpen .

The weird thing about the 4k version is that most TV capable of displaying at 4k already have what chromecast offers built in, the only thing I can think of is for a 4k computer monitor without a computer.
I picked one up because while I do have a 4k Samsung smart TV, it is losing app support. It no longer supports Discovery+ or Apple TV, and I can only imagine others aren't far behind. In a projector maybe an HD one will do the trick, but since those are at 20 bucks you should also check out Walmart Onn 4K TV Box which has almost same processor but the same RAM ammount as the 4K one (2GB) against the 1.5GB in the Chromecast HD
The only downside is that Walmart ones are out of stock in some states and they run Android TV 10 against ATV 12 on Chromecast 4K (and HD I guess). On the otherside, ATV12 seems to be full of bugs in the Chromecast so ATV10 could be a smooth, useful platform for most of us.
TL;DR: you could use the HD version for your projector, but for the same price you could buy Walmart 4K Box with a bit more RAM if you find stock for it.
I bought the Chromecast with TV 4k, and I hate it. It is super slow, laggy and just terrible experience in general. It also has a bug with Android 12, that no bluetooth keybord works and you cant pair any. Is reported since over 10 months to Google and the have not answered to it.
but why not future proof with the 4K version? if you ever change your setup down the line, you've got the better version you can plug into your future monitor, TV, etc.
@@DeztheDJ88 I could do but we rarely use our current TV. It's a 15 inch LCD from about 2006 and hasn't been turned on since the Tohoku earthquake of 2011. I'm probably wasting money buying the HD model! I could buy four pints of ale instead! 🤣
I really like the Chromecast with Google TV that I already have, however for one, BBC iPlayer (THE most popular catchup and streaming app in the UK), still does not support 4K (so for the amazing Frozen Planet II, the ROKU 4K gets fired up).... and also, if you have a smaller, FHD (1080p) TV, then this is perfect (e.g., my bedroom TV) . So I'm thinking, if it's as nippy as the 4K version, then count me in!
Next gen should have more ram and storage. Also the remote should be charged with type c rather than batteries. All this would make a perfect package for me

I bought the Chromecast with TV 4k, and I hate it. It is super slow, laggy and just terrible experience in general. It also has a bug with Android 12, that no bluetooth keybord works and you cant pair any. Is reported since over 10 months to Google and the have not answered to it.
I'm thinking of turning a 1080p PC monitor into a streaming device and the HD version will obviously be plenty.
but why not future proof with the 4K version? if you ever change your setup down the line, you've got the better version you can plug into your future monitor, TV, etc.
@@DeztheDJ88 I could do but we rarely use our current TV. It's a 15 inch LCD from about 2006 and hasn't been turned on since the Tohoku earthquake of 2011. I'm probably wasting money buying the HD model! I could buy four pints of ale instead! 🤣
Does HD version run on android 10?
12
is this device compatible with Samsung TV which stated operating system is Tizen?
So how can you use it on an older TVs when it connects via USB C? 🤔
The older TVs I've come across have a HDMI port but definitely not a USB C
It plugs into your TV's HDMI port... Just like a fire stick would...
Please i need someone to answer my question. I purchsed the 4k version but in my tv screen doesn't show 4k ! Why !
Does your TV support Ultra HD ?
It's just so annoying to me that you have to plug it into an outlet. I'll stick with my 2016 Chromecast with no remote.
Can anyone suggest a miracast device under 10$?
Not sure such a device would be good quality at that price. LOL
Next gen should have more ram and storage. Also the remote should be charged with type c rather than batteries. All this would make a perfect package for me
Dude's accent and voice speed 😤
Thanks for the review I was just about to order the 4k version for my 4k projector but the fact it needs it's own power supply is a deal breaker, I'm not having a 8m usb lead running to the projector!!
Just found a version of the firestick 4k with a special adapter so that it can be powered via the extra usb port on the back of the projector. 🥳
I have installed a few Google Chromecast 4K TV devices, where I have just used the available TV USB socket, and not the power supply. No special adapter required.
I know that Epson projectors don’t have enough wattage to power the Chromecast.
@@aaron-fauth Optima projects work fine with chromecast
In greece the 4k version cost 100 euros for some reason...
You guys didn't talk about stadia
Because it's being killed
@@utfigyii5987 they just announced that yesterday.
I bow down to your 'stache sir!
The ONN 4k streamer is 19.99 now. I would go with that
But are you sure of software updates?
@@enadegheeghaghe6369 not sure but for most people who just want to stream like Netflix probably won't think of software updates at 19.99. I think 29.99 now
link?
Would be nice if the Google TV 4K chromecast would support 1440p resolution 🙄
I am using chromecast with google tv HD in th usb port of my projector with no problem. Just select a GOOD usb cabe.
Its been a hell to use it i just want to mirror my phone without the need to connect to wifi
I just bought the Hd version because the tv I’m using it on isn’t 4k,so might as well save a few pounds.
Does it work fast or do you think the 4K is faster than it?
@@nomore3061 I didn't have the 4k one but I'm not noticing it going slow or anything.
@@bryandonnelly1986 Thank u so much 🤙🤙
Chromecast with Google TV update rolling out 🤗
I picked up an HD version for $20 😁
Nice tash 👍
I did not.understand the reason to releasong this thing. The first one is better, overally great and also very cheap.
Well this one is even cheaper. There are some people who don't have or want a 4k TV so this is perfect for them
"Haitch-D" Australians say it like this as well.
Great video. But am I the only one who thinks the way the host pronounces "H" in HD to be jarring? 😅
I thought this might have some new information, but nope.
Never heard someone say the letter "H" like "haytch". 😟 I couldn't finish watching the video.
After watching the video I am totally confused
Finally somebody made it
if u have 4k tv with all those netflix and youtube you dont actually need to buy those
I have Chromecast hd it works good
Losing is correct you gotta purchase multiple with kids
can you get to the point?
