I've found faithful the best and most reliable in many situations. Portrait can make the grass too yellow even if the skin looks great. But faithful with the contrast turned down and saturation turned up can look really cinematic. Arri like at times if you push the hues around in post
The best settings I've found after testing are Neutral profile +2 sharp -4 contrast +1sat +1 color tone hope that helps. The image needs very little touching up if you nail your exposure.
Thanks for the video Mark! I appreciate this! I’ve been using my M50 to take photos at my sons soccer game. I’ve been using the Standard profile but would you recommend something else? Fine detail maybe? I would like to increase sharpness a little
@@Colorado4x4 I would go mirrorless, Canon is killing off their DLSLR lineup. Maybe hold off and see what is released in the next 3-6 months, suppose to be some new cameras coming out.
Great video. the white balance stuff is totally counterintuitive. but it's white _balance_ so you can think of the kelvin temp in the camera as sort of a counterweight to make the temp of the light in the scene come _back_ to white. so 3200k in-camera shifts a warm 3200k light source to an even white tone by coloring it cooler. it is confusing though, for sure.
Thanks for the video - Zoom audio definitely... but I'm sure something like the Rode NTG or Videomic Pro positioned in the same spot (close to you) going straight into camera would also sound great. I agree the edited Neutral + Sharpness looks most pleasing/natural (can always add a bit more saturation if needed in post which would then become almost identical to the edited Standard profile.) White balance 3800-4000K depending on what mood you are in!
Thanks for the input. Yeah I’m think the zoom mic setup is “good enough” without being pro level, it’s good enough to not be the limiting factor in my videos. I also love the form factor of the mic/recorder all in one. A rode NTG would be a better mic, and better sound for sure.
Hi Mark! I check the lens link you left in the discription but here in my country (Brazil) it leads me to my local Amazon website and it shows me a Sigma 24mm f1.4 . Is it right or you used a Sigma 16mm f1.4? Thanks
I liked the combo of Zoom F1-SP and standard profile the most, but I'm use to using the neutral profile and color grading it based on my background color. Have you ever used a color checker to help with color correction/white balance? I use the x-rite passport. I also notice I need an eye break and come back to the footage after I correct and or grade it. I laughed when I saw you said they all started to look the same.
Funny, having a break helped, but only after publishing the video I watched it on my ipad and the colors were so different. So I do need a color checker, I just wish they weren't so pricey, about $150 US$ over here.
@@markwiemels Yikes! Well I guess you can only do so much on your side. Proper white balance, good color correction, grading, and a calibrated computer screen. If someone on the other side has a messed up device it doesn't matter. Before I calibrated my computer screen I thought you were a girl that didn't know how to put makeup on.
I just found your channel and I'm really enjoying it! This video was super helpful for me. Thanks for taking the time to put this out.
Excellent! What an awesome & useful video! Really helped me experiment! Thank you for coming up with this idea!
You are most welcome!

Fine detail has been useful for me, faithful blows out skin tones sometimes, neutral desaturates near white in an unnatural way.
Thanks for sharing, good insight.
Wow loving you recording set up Mark! 👍🏽 looks and sounds super professional.
Cheers, Ray
Thanks Ray. Took me a few years to work it out! I think I’m getting there now.

Just play around with them FD is a good one to try.
@@markwiemels thanks for the reply Mark! I shot my sons game today in fine detail. I’m looking at a different camera for sports now! Maybe a 5d mark 4

@@markwiemels thanks for the tip! I love the idea of a new canon mirrorless! I love my M50 but need better continuous autofocus.
this is good stuff good job thank u

@@markwiemels Agreed, zoom sounds really good.
Was this shot on your M6 Mk II? I'm looking at that camera to upgrade from my 80D.
Yes, all of my recent vids are M6 Mark II, great camera.
@@markwiemels it looks awesome in the studio setting. Cheers!
The Zoom sounded the best and the standard pp looked the best to me. But I'd go neutral with adjustments for colour grading.
HI is there a option to bring up the shadows in camera? i always like mine up a lot
Not exactly, but if you reduce the contrast slider it will have a similar effect.

Sigma 16mm f1.4 is what you want. Sometimes the links to other countries don’t take you to the exact product.
Make sure you get the canon EF-m mount version.
@@markwiemels Thank you very much Mark! I'll get the 16mm f1 4. :)
